The preamp has both an analog and digital limiter built in, specifically to address "blowing up mics on stream". It was actually one of the first things I noticed watching Twitch that got me thinking about making the product. We have thought about support for Mac and/or the ability to capture "stems" into a DAW for post production. Both of those things are non-trivial development, but we totally agree that it would be rad at some point. Take care!

Depends on the use case. For my main production setup, this is never going to replace my 12MTK. But I could see myself having one (or two) of these for additional game streaming setups where I only need 1 mic/headset and misc. single PC setups. Would be a lot of fun and most normal single PC streamers would probably benefit more from this. But if your need involves a lot of inputs and multitrack, 12MTK better value.
"as a Music Device...NO DO NOT GET IT!" Good man, very fair review and for streamers that don't know their Phantom power from their Proximity effect its a nice package but the Rode unit is a better Audio Op tool.
Yeah, it's definitely not designed for musicians in general, but we do have some musicians streaming on Twitch Creative with it. The best bet is to treat "the band" as a single source, pre-mixing it on a traditional mixer, then run it into the Line In on GoXLR for combining with the rest of your computer based audio, mic, stream alerts etc. before broadcast. In that setup, it can still really simplify the setup, but it's not a complete solution in and of itself.

Love mine 2 days in, and the TC Helicon social folks have been insanely helpful in getting it up and running when I had user-error issues. I will say the body itself feels much more solid and quality than I expected, with my FX knobs and XLR seeming to be MUCH more rock solid. The fader caps are literally my only disappointment physically. From a software side, my one major complaint is renaming captured samples can't be done in-app. You ARE able to easily launch a file explorer to them from in-app, however renaming or refiling to a subfolder with the XLR app open will break that interface until you reboot. I'd also love the ability to adjust the volume of sample playback or permanently trim, however neither has been an actual issue after my first 20 hours of use. So far, i haven't seen anyone mention it at all, but routing physical cables is necessary with 3.5mm cables for streaming purposes. None of my other equipment have any grounding issues. 2 pc's, a laptop, a phone, a pad, a few dacs with amp etc. Only using it as a soundcard gives no issues, but as soon as anything is plugged into either line in, out or microphone, the noise wreaks havoc. We are currently investigating an SDK and/or API for GoXLR. It's a big task and something we as a company don't have experience doing yet, but it's something we'd love to be able to offer.
@@HeliconGaming For my two cents worth, while gaming on windows is mainstream, Linux is coming into play. I hope you guys do go down that route and release an SDK or opensource the project. Heyho, I had a little question ... I am considering whether I should buy a Focusrite Scarlett, Motu M2 or a GoXLR. The preamps seem to have power, but how big are the differences in things Sound and noise compared to the Focusrite or Motu M2? I have often read that the GoXLR emits a noticeably higher level of noise than the Scarlett and Motu M2, which should surpass the Scarlett again ... I would be interested in your "opinion". Many Thanks.
This might sound like a dumb question but here goes nothing. Would this be good for pre-recorded videos? Like, if I adjust everything and do some test runs and the raw audio sounds good, would I be able to set it up in OBS and just use it there for gameplays?
Awesome Video! Currently using the GoXLR for streaming but recently my friends on Call of Duty Modern Warfare keep telling me that they are getting an echo on their end but I dont hear anything on my end. In the routing area I only have my Mic routed to chat and to sampler. I've disabled everything in sound control panel other than the GoXLR . I use it with OBS and it is the GoXLR is the only device that is enabled. Any help would be great!
I might have to learn all about audio for a podcast set, i am completely lost (i do know a bit about audio overall though), but no idea were to even begin with this. Up to 4 mikes and live stream. This seems easy enough to get into, but any pointers on the fundamentals for a complete beginner?... anything is welcome.
Is there a simple version of this? I only want to RELAY sfx from the mic, sort of like soundpad but for my mic, such as using a megaphone while in a cop car in GTA.
@Modern Canadian I mean, other than the sampler which I don't really care for, the Mg10xu mixer has almost all the same features for half the price, plus it doesn't need an app running on your PC just to function
I also have the mg10xu and will be ditching it for this! I also have a sampler and it make my desk look like a shit science experiment. Wires and crap everywhere. This will be also SO much easier to use and making samples
love your reviews. i watched a lot of your reviews for Mics and figured id watch this to see if its worth it. That being said i feel like for 600 you are getting half of a soundboard. i was hoping the 6 FX settings were able to be used as pages for the faders. im just get annoying lobby player or wacky dj vibes from this board. guess will be going with a different direction for just a fader bar. As always your reviews are awesome!! thank you so much!!
Well done review, Bandrew. This is very enticing for general game and other streaming. Very helpful for people who may not know how to deal with pro-sumer equipment. Maybe once the price point comes down, it will be more attractive.
I also have the Rode NT1 with this device... Is there a way I could hear myself through my headset with no delay using the GoXLR? Like some routing metrhod or anytthing?
how do i setup zero latency monitoring with the goxlr, I have the Shure SM7B with xlr cable. and nothing i do allows me to listen to myself while speaking into the mic
I bought this thing and have had so many issues getting it to work right. The sampler will not record anything even though I'm holding the button down. I can even add in a sound affect and it won't play back when I hit the lighted button. Am i missing something? Hopefully someone can help.

Good morning I would like to ask you from the UK can I ask about the microphone will it lower the music down when you are talking as you are talking you would like the music behind you because I was thinking of using this for a radio streaming

A thing to keep in mind, when you work with the community, the community works with you. Who knows where it could lead in a years time.
Hey podcastage! I've had my blue snowball now for over 2 years and i need to upgrade! whats your option for my next mic? The budget is max around $150

Heyho,
I had a little question ...
Perfect review of this product. Clear, and informative. Thank you very much. Oh, and... thank you also for the Alex Jones meme at 9:14 haha!
Hi, for me it will be perfect when there will be a fifth track dedicated to the game which for me must be separated from the track system.
Would really like to ask if what is better the GoXlr or the Rode Rodecaster Pro. Thanks
How would I go about using this with a Shure SM7B, while having my Sennheiser HD 660s connected to an ARC Mk2???
Really beautiful mixer! It has everything I ever looked for and then some.. If only it was cheaper.. :(
If this was under $200 i'd be interested, but $400 just for this?
@Modern Canadian I mean, other than the sampler which I don't really care for, the Mg10xu mixer has almost all the same features for half the price, plus it doesn't need an app running on your PC just to function
I also have the mg10xu and will be ditching it for this! I also have a sampler and it make my desk look like a shit science experiment. Wires and crap everywhere. This will be also SO much easier to use and making samples
Do I see a Neumann BCM behind you?
why i hear hissing noise of shure sm7b when he silent?
maybe GoXLR not provide clean gain as they advertised
love your reviews. i watched a lot of your reviews for Mics and figured id watch this to see if its worth it.
If you were doing primarily VO work, would you choose this, or a Scarlette Solo, or 2i2?
Which do you think is better?
This is a $400 mixer. The Scarlette is the clear option. He also answers it here: 16:24
So, this is an mixer/soundcard/dbx286s and soundboard in 1 for 6 channels ?🤔
Would I need the cloud lift thing or something similar or is this enough to be able to hear the sm7b?
Well done review, Bandrew. This is very enticing for general game and other streaming. Very helpful for people who may not know how to deal with pro-sumer equipment. Maybe once the price point comes down, it will be more attractive.
I also have the Rode NT1 with this device... Is there a way I could hear myself through my headset with no delay using the GoXLR? Like some routing metrhod or anytthing?
GoXLR uses a DSP, so there's about 8ms delay - but this option is turned on by default to monitor your microphone.
So for using the sampler and stuff into discord voice channels you would use the routing tab correct?
Man this would be absolutely perfect to have in a setup. I don't think I could ever afford it... but perhaps one day I will get there :D
So with this you wouldn’t need a cloud lifter or anything?
I had setup my SM7b exactly the same settings with yours. But i can hear noise/hissing sound with mine. Do you think my SM7b is faulty?
how do i setup zero latency monitoring with the goxlr, I have the Shure SM7B with xlr cable. and nothing i do allows me to listen to myself while speaking into the mic
I bought this thing and have had so many issues getting it to work right. The sampler will not record anything even though I'm holding the button down. I can even add in a sound affect and it won't play back when I hit the lighted button. Am i missing something? Hopefully someone can help.
IN ALL OF YOUR TEST YOUVE DONE, WHAT IS THE BIGGEST FACTOR FOR GETTING GOOD GAIN WITHOUT IT HAVING MUCH HISS FEEDBACK, I HAVE A APOLLO TWIN WITH A AUDIO TECH MIC, SO DOES LIKE CABLES MATTER OR WHAT? WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THE LEAST AMOUNT OF HISS FEEDBACK IS MY QUESTION LOL
Thanks for the review! Does the headphone port create background hissing with lower impedance headphones? I have tried teh Philips X2 and DT 900 Pro X and both have background hissing, was curious if yours was like this too, thanks!
Good morning I would like to ask you from the UK can I ask about the microphone will it lower the music down when you are talking as you are talking you would like the music behind you because I was thinking of using this for a radio streaming
Can you set up the goxlr to auto bleep swear words? Or do you have to press it every time? As it would seem a little counter-intuitive.
When i plug my razer nari x headphones in the back with an aux cord i can only hear in one ear but when i plug in earphones i hear perfectly do you think getting a preamp would help and allow more power to reach my headset ?
