Headed straight out to PAX after filming this and had to cut the feature suggestions short. Here is a short list of things I'd like to see them add (and what would you like to see them add?):
1. Cough button given same mute button functionality
2. Stream Deck integration (for muting, routing table changes, etc)
3. Assign Mic monitoring to fader
4. Add monitoring to EVERY input
why does it say 6 hours ago...
please add your new stream package in discord like transition or your cam layout
Thanks for these videos, it's thanks to you that I have a brilliant camera setup for my twitch stream now that didn't completely break the bank. I look dammmn professional on stream now and it's gaining me followers, thank you again :) Honestly, due to the quality ceiling issues, I'd recommend people a good condenser usb mic like a blue yeti/rode nt USB/at2020 and to not even consider the go xlr setup until they're making a living off of streaming, but that's just me and I'm no success yet haha.
🤔 When's this Harris Heller GoXLR going to be released because that one you just made up sounds perfect 😈
Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
Harris Stream Deck integration has been announce in the Helicon Discord, it's being worked on right now :-)
This dude taught me better than a school
Yeeeees
Petition to make him our teacher for online school
I’m down
Honestly what can't you learn on RUclips?
@@bauernothockey no because then you have to pay
Harris: "They made it idiot proof"
Me: *Feeling underestimated*
Me: Is that a challenge
"You can hear exactly what the stream hears" that's what's sold me on the GoXLR. I've worked as a live sound mixer for years and thats the thing I've wanted from my set up. When I watch my VODs back my levels are all over the place. Great review!
Very cool!
You've been really helpful for starting my stream and i thank you for not being greedy and helping others!.!.!
What’s your stream name
Man, let me start by saying I love your videos. You've got me as a subscriber for sure! I am a new content creator and you are REALLY helping me get a feel for what audio equipment is out there. I know this is 4 years old but I'm pretty behind in my audio knowledge. Thank you!
ultimately, i think id be happy with the goxlr mini + sm7b
Same. i ordered my goxlr mini yesterday. and the mic will be ordered end of march
@@ruinfox4108 I had the goxlr with a 2 year protection and after 1 year I returned it and I just ordered the mini. For half the price you get the most important feautures. I had fun with the soundboard and auto-tune but for 250$ more it wasn’t worth i to me I think I annoyed more people than did good lol.
@@crazycat5777 yeah i mean i got a bit of money to blow. if i dont really like it i could always return it lol. i order my sm7b tomorrow anyway
@@crazycat5777 Good to know, thanks for sharing. I think I'll go that route, as well.
As a sound engineer for over 40 years, almost any Shure microphone can be made to sound as good or better than the Sm7b
GoXLR Mid: 4 channels non-motorized, voice changer, and printed labels atop the channels in a box size in between the regular and mini. #winning
TY for the timestamp. ASMR is just freakin creepy.
Oh, and you rock!
Honestly, for everyone out there that's debating between the two, go with the Mini.
Here are my reasons, which may get lost in the comments:
1. The screens unless you are looking directly above/at a slight angle, you cannot even see anything besides the light. I personally don't want to have my GoXLR at/near my keyboard, some may.
2. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't use the effects very often. I thought I would a lot, but in reality, I don't. Maybe if It was some roleplay with Grand Theft Auto or something.
3. The Sampler is garbage(okay, maybe that's harsh to say). It resets CONSTANTLY. Sure, maybe every other restart isnt constant but after a while, it gets really annoying having to throw the mp3 files back on, when you already saved it as a profile previously and it for whatever reason is now overwritten with nothing there.
Side note, Kind of annoyed at the fact that there are 2 icons for the GoXLR in the taskbar, but maybe that's just me wanting to have a minimal taskbar without icon's being hidden. Personally would prefer it to be one application. Maybe this is changed with the Mini as one simply controls the sampler/effects?
A Harris Heller edition GoXLR would be no brainer buy for people like us! Looking forward to the Rode Podmic review!
I especially appreciate the technical, yet highly accessible & intuitive breakdown of the output rates, etc. Another entertaining, yet educational video. Thanks!
Man I just started watching your channel and by far the best content on perspective on streaming and audio Quality feedback. Also did the goxlr spike up a 100 bucks or was it alway 498$
Oh my god I want it so bad, but I want your hypothetical version even more
Holy crap... Was looking everywhere for info about the motorized faders not being present on the Mini, but this is the first time I've seen any mention of how they work in tandem with profiles. Thank you for your content! I only recently found this channel and there's been so much "no-bullshit" guidance here, I love it. Also what I mentioned sold me on the Mini vs the normal model. Thank you :)
I've had the GoXLR for about 4 months now, and it is by far the best thing I have ever bought. From trolling friends in Discord, to scaring kids in game with my spooky voice, it's the most creative tool, yet practical for complete sound control. It's sheer genius. The mini is super handy by the looks of it. Even for day to day audio, sitting at your PC, it's so nice having Spotify volume on a slider!
Solid review! One point in regards to the quality ceiling.
Twitch is actually upgrading a lot of stuff behind the scenes that most of the public isn't aware of in terms of quality - beta features for partners and grandfathered accounts.
For example:
You can now stream up to 10k kpbs (8k reliably) as opposed to 6k that Twitch claims you can. (They'll yell at you but you can still do it).
You can stream up to 120fps (Set your value in OBS to integer value and set it manually) so those of us with 144hz monitors can enjoy that goodness (also need to be streaming in 10k for it to not look like ass).
They've also rolled out increased audio quality, don't have the exact values but if you listen to a channel like a_couple_streams their quality is far and above anything else anyone is doing atm. Taking advantage of (I believe) some increased audio quality partner features.
Just food for thought that investing in some top of the line studio-quality gear may actually pay dividends in coming years. (But yeah 60% of people still listen on phones so lul).
Can i use both of them together you know to have more chanels??
On twitter they said you can't =/ but you can connect one to the stream pc and one to the game pc and cheat that way.
PIXPEW thank you !!
Wow I’m late but one thing I remember seeing was if you use the line in and line outs into each other it should work
Another wireless headset that works is the Arctics 7 the usb dongle has a line in that you can use the 3.5mm cable to broadcast audio to your headset.
Love the video, I’m actually on the other end when it comes to the sliders. I would love to see the sampler removed and add 2 - 4 more sliders or one for each channel available.
Couldn't have asked for a better expert on audio when it comes to recording or streaming. You are amazing at how much content and info you put up and keep up to date. Keep up the amazing work i can't your channel explode.
My god I rarely comment on RUclips videos but I have to give this a go. You've sold me on this device, like I really want it now! You're nailing your videos in every way even to the point of what the device could do better even on a sponsored video ( i assume it's sponsored as you did not say it wasn't). Keep it up Harris, I subscribed to you probably a bit over a year ago and I have not stopped watching, I will always support your professional informative self.
Ur so damn smart about streaming it blows my mind. Thanks for all the help even tho u never gonna see this ❤️
Harris you nailed the asmr again man!!! LOVE IT!!!!!
Thank God! Only a few months of waiting, and it shall be MINE!! I literally almost bit the bullet and bought the original. So glad I turned my notifications on for your channel. Thanks... seriously!!
Yo, congrats on 100k Harris / Alpha Gaming crew. Y'all earned it.
Thank you so much for this video Harris! Been watching so many of your videos but the aside from the amazing advice in this video, the audio upgrade path was the best. I have a Blue Yeti already and I was halfway to searching for a video on how to use a Yeti with the the mini but you've covered it off! Thanks again!
The single fader could have a single LED with a fade BAR indicating where you left your original fader at - so you can have a visual of your adjustment as well.
Rock Solid & Right On comparison! I have yet to watch one of your videos and not learn something. Thank you for taking the time out to help out so many people during their journey's.
great video as always ! congrats for 100k ;) It's a great idea to make a cheaper goxlr for streamers who don't need all the functions of the classic goxlr.
btw i came on your stream a few days ago, keep up the good work !
So a steel series arctic 7 wireless would work becouse it has the receiver thing or is that different
An electrical engineer can spot all the effort you put in the accuracy of your content. Wish you all the best and more growth on the platform.
Hey, Herris! Thanks a lot for this review. What about voice monitoring in it? Do you use it to hear yourself while streaming or not? I've read on reddit that there is a small delay, so i have some concerns now. Because I have now dbx 286s and behringer 1204 with scarlet solo, but want something small and compact but with the same functionality.
Most hardware mixers have a 3ms latency. Because we do more vocal processing than most hardware mixers, ours is about 4ms latency. It's not something we've had anyone notice. In the latest GoXLR Summer Update we reduced the GoXLR Latency from 11ms to 4.5ms (GoXLR Mini is slightly lower latency than GoXLR), and since then we've had no complaints!
9:53 this sounds amazing 🤩 what setting do you use there for the go xlr mini and the shure sm7b?
I want to thank you for your audio knowledge. You give just enough tech language to explain things intelligently. Bravo!
Question: How is the latency mic to headphone when using wireless headphones?
I understand the GoXLR has 4.5ms latency from mic in to HP out, which is good. It used to be 11ms before the big software update, which was slightly uncomfortable for monitoring. How is it with the Steelseries wireless transmitter added?
You are one of the best in reviewing I've ever saw. You honest opinion is something i don't wanna miss when it comes to upgrading my stuff. Thank you so much!
I believe TC Helicon is part of TC Electronic which was bought by Behringer. They use the Midas preamps in the UMC line of interfaces. Nice to see them shake the stigma of low quality products.
ok I understand the price difference and sorry if this a repeated question. I have been looking into this for awhile now. I have currently a Xenyx Q502 and I am going to upgrade to the GO XLR should I just save up for the big GO XLR or look into the Mini GO XLR?
RudeIrishKnight I think he answered it with the video but seems like you didn’t watch it lol, they’re the same quality just depends how many features you want.
When I used my Shure SM7B with the GoXLR, I had to drive the pre-amp up pretty high and got a pretty loud hiss as a result. Putting a CloudLifter in the loop resolved it and I only need about 30dB of gain from the GoXLR to get a nice sound.
You didn't mention the lack of 48V phantom power on this one. For me it's a complete game changer.
He probably didn’t mention the lack of phantom power because the GoXLR Mini actually does provide phantom power.
Brilliant overview, and loved the question answering session at the end. Subscribed!
MidCovid 2020, the pricing on Amazon for these have more than doubled. Yeeeeesh.
I absolutely love how you intersected recording/pro audio with gaming and streaming on your channel! Have you tried RME's interfaces before?
When you use the GOXLR are you able to have voice playback into your headphones so that you can hear yourself ever so slightly?
Thank you for doing this video, I have this Mixer call the Rubix-44 from Roland and it didn't sound that beautiful as your stream. I might save up and invest for the mini in the future!
Really need an idiot proof device for people like me.
Really appreciate this video.
Also congrats hitting 100K Subscribers!
Thank you so much for clearining this up i have recently baught the GOXLR mini and i can't wait to start useing it.
As always, amazing video. Congrats on 100K!
Is it possible to use the voice changer somehow in the software? Or do you need to buy a separate hardware? :)
I am so glad that I didnt purchase the full size one, now knowing that there is a smaller, more affordable one coming out. I decided to purchase the Asus ROG Swift PG258Q 240Hz monitor since that would serve me better than dumping $400 on something that doesnt matter that much on my stream *yet*. Now seeing this, I have a new device in mind. Thanks for the amazing review, Harris.
9:41 - I disagree. I have a Podmic plugged into mine and everyone has complained its very quiet unless i crank up the mic volume up to like 85-90%, which should not be necessary. I have a cloud lifter on it now and am able to keep it at a more reasonable 70% with the Gain set to 26dB. Increasing the gain higher just adds static noise, which i had to do a bit without the lifter. Unless you can suggest something to improve that in the XLR settings someplace, i did go over your GoXRL setup video several times and it was still very quiet below 85% volume.
Hey, love ur channel. Best of twitch tutorials and tips. Wait for GoXLR tricks video
1 thing i don`t like. input and output on the front. i would like to have in on the back.
and. is the voice changer in the software. or is it all gone?
I really want to get into streaming but I don't have a crazy amount of money to get a goxlr and a new mic. Now that they have mini version for $250 idk if I should get the GoXLR mini or the Yamaha MG10XU which is around $200. What do you guys recommend?
I'd be good if they replace the voice changer with a toggle switch that give you basic reverb or echo. That's the main thing I like about the Yamaha MG06X, but it's touch to mix audio sources from within windows with an analogue.
I agree with you! Seeing a single motorized fader, voice changer, plus the mute button would be amazing. Even better if they could get it around $150!! Thank you as always for your advice!
Hey!
New to the channel and boy oh boy are you hitting all the right buttons. Quick Question, would it be possible to use a Boss RC300 in place of the GoXLR?
I come from a music background and being able to repurpose my stage gear would be awesome.
Keep up the awesome work man!
Thanks
Can you do a comparison between goxlr and the rode procaster? Idk if I spelt stuff right
I like the idea of the mini. The first thing I said when the GoXLR came out was "cut the effects and I'm sold". I'm a little disappointed that they didn't try to squeeze all of the i/o on the back panel for better cable management
Just for the record - we indeed did try. The good news is we know that there will be some people who are happy to have the cables out the front. It's a win/lose either way, but we did originally spec GoXLR Mini to all go out the back.
My only complaint with the GoXLR Mini is that it only has 24V of Phantom Power, which is not enough to power any higher end mic. If it had 48V, I wouldn't have a single (good) reason to use the GoXLR over the GoXLR Mini (so maybe that's what they're trying to do)
I know this is a GoXLR Mini video and probably dumb of me to ask here, but I'm curious. I'm looking to upgrade from a USB mic and was wondering what your thoughts on the Behringer Xenyx USB were? Combined with a 100$ xlr mic of course. Or should I just wait for the Mini to be released and up to that? Thanks in advanced!
@Alpha Gaming what 3.5mm cord are you using to plug your goxlr into your wireless preamp? i have one but need a new one and that short one looks pretty slick. Thanks in advance my dude.
Harris just wanted to update your list of compatible wireless headsets. The Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum mic also has the necessary 3.5mm input on the USB transmitter and it works under the same principal you provided for the other two.
I like your idea with the one fader but I think add one more fader with a switch like you said or a button to switch channels. Reason why to have 2 faders is I see streamers playing music in BR's in between games so I think giving one more would be good. Let me know what you think or if you think one more would be to much
Great review! I’m looking forward to upgrading to the mini in the future from my current mixer :)
DAMN hitting the NAIL on the HEAD with a sludge hammer with this one Harris! 5% more IS EVERYTHING THING! thank you as always
Tip for people with usb dongle wireless headset: connect goxlr line output to your pc, get base voicemeeter, set input to line in, output it to wireless headphone and any other outputs you want. There is no delay at all. You are welcome:)
Harris first off thank you for the content you put out. Quick question. Have you tested the goxlr mini with the Yeti x professional? I don't think they are compatible and can't seem to get them to play well together.
Another golden video! Question can you use a usb mic (at2020 usb) with either of these?
Never mind, I continued watching and my question was answered lol
I've been drooling at your audio setup videos recently and I'm about 90% sure I'll get a goXlr mini soon but I use a macbook for work. Although it's been clearly stated that it is NOT compatible with mac, I was wondering if I could still use it to connect an Xlr mic to my macbook for meetings ? (its main usage would be on my pc though)
Thanks for your videos mate!
So I’m assuming this would eliminate the headache of a lot of audio issues with monitoring console audio and PC audio etc when streaming? It’s annoying going back and forth and trying to mix audios and mic levels. I’m betting a mini with a stream deck I already have would be a perfect combo 🤔
The only thing I think could be an upgrade option if like to see is at least one more XLR input for podcasts and interviews and an instrument input option perhaps. I might convert to the mini from a presonus. Tbd
Howdy!
I'm considering buying a device like that rn. But I would like to know your guys' opinion, for a dual pc streaming set up what's better: the GoXLR (or the mini version), or a device like the yamaha mg12xu?
Thanks for answering!
Congrats on 100 subs Harris.
THE ONE TIME I NEED TO HEAR A VIDEO WHILE IN THE SHOWER YOU'RE WHISPERING 😭
Im glad I found this video you answered my questions I had and made it easy for someone thats not as tech savvy
+72db of gain is pretty impressive for the mic preamp! That will drive pretty much any dynamic or ribbon.
If I were going to suggest a path, I’d start with a Samson Q2U or Atr2100 over the Yeti. Save a few bucks that you can then put towards that GoXLR mini. Then you get the GoXLR and you can still use the same mic you have been... now using the XLR connection instead of the USB. From there... well, there are so many good mic choices...
XlR mic's are def in a league of their own. I cant go back to USB mic's
Can you please compare the Rode Rodecaster Pro with the GoXLR! Would appreciate it !
Is there any device or adapter that can make it so your USB wireless mic can fit the mini.
Congratulations on 100k! Yay!
Love your demos .I've got a question for you .Can I use the XLR for mixing 4 racks at a time in a daw? I'm a guitarist and I always wanted to color code my tracks .I really like the sampler since I don't have one of them. Also I always wanted color coded scribble strips on top of all four tracks. I already have guitar interface, because I know the XLR really doesn't have any inputs for musical instruments I know it's costly but I wouldn't mind using this at least for a straight little mixer .Keep up the great work Hope to hear from you..Thank you I really appreciate it.
CONGRATS on 100k!
13:00 THIS! Harris, holy shit it's exactly what I want out of an audio device!
If you already have the goxlr, can you add the mini? I was hoping to be able to add the mini so I could have 4 more faders on my setup.
An awesome video & discussion as always!
Cheers, Harris! 😁 🍻
Can you make a video on how to connect a goxlr with a focusrite 2i2?
how does his voice sound so good even without a mic near his face? I mean during he was explaining the device, what mystery is that?
Its that $2000 Blue Kiwi he has. It's probably directly above him and out of frame.
@@josiahmsantiago but isnt that a feature of a shotgun mic meanwhile kiwi is dynamic? correct me if I am wrong.
touseefbsb the coder actually you are so right. I completely forgot about shotgun mics but at the very beginning of the video you can see the mic hanging over the desk. It’s a shotgun mic like you said. Sorry for the misinformation.
@@josiahmsantiago no worries, and thankyou I learned somethiing today :)
touseefbsb the coder the kiwi is a condenser mic
Congrats on 100k subs bro love your channel
Okey, this might sound like a weird question, but can you use the regular and mini GoXLR at the same time? Like have different audio channels to the different faders?
Harris, ty for the info, do you think is worth, just for RUclips content?
great video layout I actually was really hoping to find something about wireless headphones. New sub great content!
Is the BM-800 a good mic with a behringer mc-22 interface?
I'm probably getting that when I feel like it's the good time, I don't know audio but could start there! thx for all your content!
Really interesting video, thanks.
The geek in me feels like saying, doesn't dsp stand for digital signal processor?!?
You mention the Arctis Pro Wireless being a compatible wireless headset with the GoXLR. I tried this, and I couldn't get past the latency when monitoring my own voice coming from the microphone connected to the GoXLR. Steelseries has a "side tone" feature that gives you "0 latency" monitoring but you have to use the built-in headset microphone to get this. If you are using your XLR microphone to hear your own voice, there is a slight amount of latency that sounds almost like reverb in my ears and messes with me. I ultimately had to switch to a wired headset (DT990 Pro's). But did you somehow solve the riddle of getting zero-latency monitoring (aka sidetone) to work with your wireless headset? Are you broadcasting the XLR microphone to your headset?
Hey harris, I had a thought about the headphones which is that if you have a older pair of wireless turtle beaches they actually have a line in and out so they could easy work on this setup just so you knew :)
And what if you have a USB headset or like a 7.1 headset like the Razer Tiamat 😝😝
Love your videos! Off question, what are those lights behind your that kinda look like " light sabers"
I went Go Xlr mini and upgraded from blue yeti to AT2020 xlr. I think I made a good choice. It sounds better and I have more control over my mic than with blue yeti. I have my at2020 mounted on Rode PSA1 arm with some InnoGear pop filter. What do you think Alpha Gaming? Is this a good combo for the price-quality? Thank You for your videos it helped me a lot. Found a new streaming audio controller. In case this hasn't crossed your desk yet, I stumbled across the Maonocaster. It's a kickstarter but competition is competition. Would be cool to see your opinion on it. (I have no connection to this product, I just value your opinion on new items) Keep up the good work!
Your possibly the only channel along with linus or jayz2cents I'd trust when giving consumer advise. I'm sold and picking up a Goxlr mini today.
