The era of the 5 Gods is over. Dr. PP is hardly playing, hungrybox is semi retired, m2k hasn't had the same presence as he used to, mango is in the same boat as m2k, and now Armada is leaving a large part of the smash community. I began to get interested in smash because of the gods and how unfathomably good they are. I rooted for mango at Apex 2014 and I enjoyed the leffen challenge. As with any person, they can't stay at the top forever. Respect for Armada and the gods for being as good as they were. I unfortunately don't enjoy smash as much but best of luck to Armada.
imo the decline of the Gods is (not entirely but overall) good for the community as a whole. whereas for over a decade it was near impossible to become the best or w/e, now regular ass people can see the likes of Plup and Leffen go from local randos to beating gods, winning EVOs, etc. they weren't called the Gods for nothing; almost no one won anything major when two or more of them were present til very recently. that kind of dominance is unnerving at the least to newcomers, and the Melee scene always needs newcomers. the massive doc influx that literally saved Melee will die down eventually. also Armada and competitive Melee are relatively young. he just needs a break (especially since he's the type to never give himself breaks, metaphorically and literally), but he'll be back. they alllllllllllways come back. unless you're Isai and are therefore physically unable to give even the slightest fraction of a fuck.
This makes me sad dude, I’ve been watching your amazing singles melee runs for years now, Thanks for all the crazy plays and hype you’ve given all of us. You really are a legend to all of us Good Luck in your doubles runs amd everything else you do! :)
Out of all the bad things to happen in 2018 for Smash, this and ZeRo quitting were the worst things to happen. However, just like ZeRo, I respect your decision. It’s great you still will play in doubles, and you definitely deserve to take a break from singles. It’s alright since you’re not doing as well, but we’ll definitely miss you singles. I’ve always looked up to your as an inspiration for playing Smash, so thanks for everything you have done in the Smash community as a player and influencer. Hopefully we’ll be able to see you more as a commentator as well!
Oh my god, I almost cannot believe this... This might be the greatest loss the Melee community has seen in its entire history. It hurts, but I wish the best to you Armada!
The greatest to ever touch a controller. Not even talking about how godly of a player/competitor you are .... as a person you've been nothing but respectful, humble, a great role model and an all around great guy. Melee is/was so lucky to have you as one of it's biggest faces, you make everyone love the game because they love you. You've already cemented your status in Melee, now do what you makes you happy. Best of you luck to you Adam in everything you decide to do in life.
We all grow and change over time, and our inclinations and natural tendencies change as well. Congrats on all the successes and good luck in future directions :)
“Having motivational issues”. In other words, you simply don’t want to do it anymore. This is called getting burned out, and it happens in literally everything in life. You are still a very young person, and you deserve to live your life how you want. And, guess what, Melee singles aren’t going anywhere so if you ever wanted to do it again, you could. In other words, you lose absolutely nothing by doing this. Good job for following your heart bro, you are doing the right thing imo.
"Melee singles aren't going anywhere" I wouldn't be so sure of that. Melee lives because people care about the storylines, if all the gods retired tomorrow, supermajors would no longer get the viewership and attendance to support it, majors would become regionals, regionals locals, smaller locals would die off. Especially if the gods moved to Ultimate. When Mango got eliminated from Full Bloom earlier this year, viewership drop from 60k to 40k instantly. I don't think you realise how much of this community rides on Mango and M2K's presence, if Mango decided to peace out and go full time streamer and M2K went to Ultimate, Leffen would probs go to DBFZ and the whole scene would fall apart.
Alex Rose I’m not saying that viewership won’t go down if all the g-ds quit tomorrow, which I think we both realize is an extreme circumstance, especially considering new talent like zain is emerging. I don’t think any logical person would argue that point. I’m saying that I do not believe it will get to the point in any where close to the near future that it will completely die off or even close to anything like that. No matter how many new games come out, Melee continues to thrive and this is not only because of a few individuals, it’s also because of the culture that has been derived from the best game ever made. Melee is too close to so many peoples’ hearts and so many new people are coming into the game that it will not die off especially anytime soon if not ever. If you want, we can look back in ten years and make a bet if Melee singles will still be a thing. I’m betting that it for sure will be, no matter what happens. The only way this Could happen, imo, is if a better game comes out. Well, Melee came out in 2001, and we still haven’t seen a better game come out. This is how hundreds of thousands of people feel at the end of the day. If this was false, the game wouldn’t be here today.
The best Peach to ever exist. Your play was absolutely amazing to watch. You are a freaking awesome player and you have inspired me greatly. I'll miss the hell out of you.
imagine if the new documentary in the making will start where the first left off and cover everything until now... the documentary can take its time, i want it to be perfect.
I really only got into watching competitive smash around the ultimate invitational but after evo I became a huge fan of yours. I went back and watched tons of old matches. You are BY FAR my favorite melee player/Smasher in general so I’m sad to hear you leaving the singles tournaments but I guess that means I got to watch teams more. I really hope you do play in Ultimate I think that game really needs strong personalities that’s one of the things that makes melee so fun to watch is the people but also the gameplay. I know what ever you do you will be great at it and I wish you the best of luck staying happy love you!
While I am disappointed, I have grown too much respect for you over the years to not trust your judgement. I hope you can find what makes you happy and live a happy, healthy life. Take it easy, man.
I would lie if I say that I didnt see it coming, but I always thought "is Armada one of the 5 Gods he would never quit singles" but lately on the stream I noticed that your lack of motivation for singles Do what you think is the best for you and be happy doing it.
Melee will be in a great position for years to come. You take all the time you need. I think trying your hand in more doubles, ultimate, and commentary would be healthy for you and the smart way to go about this. One of the best ways to recover from burnout is to take a break and do similar activities. You're doing the right thing. True melee fans more than understand.
Wow Summit without Armada... this is hard to believe.. Don't worry dude of course we're sad but definitly not disappointed and we do respect the decision and we look forward to see you in doubles and commentating ! Have you ever consider entering tournament singles with a low-tier ? It might gives you motivation as you can see it as a challenge
You already know armada, this had to happen at some point and what you said its very true: "you cant force motivation". Feeling the same way about things Ive been doing for a big portion of my life so I understand the struggle, will continue supporting you and sincere thanks for what you've done for this community.
Armada, I'm going to miss watching you play melee. we may play different games in the smash series, but you were a role model for me and drove me to do what i do. You will always be my favorite player and i will always consider you the GOAT of melee. I wish you the best for all your future endeavors!

It’s crazy to think that this video will probably be referenced in a future smash documentary talking about the end of an era. I remember when I got into smash in 2012/2013 I watched the documentary and I was so fascinated by it. I really felt a part of the community instantly just by watching it. I remember being kind of bummed I wasn’t around to see Ken, PC Chris, Isai, etc play. To me they were just players “of the history books”...and the only association I had with them was through old clips of them playing...but they meant something more to everyone that was a part of the community from 2006 onward. People in the Melee community in 2006 were already invested whereas I had no idea about the scene. It’s weird to think that new smashers getting into the scene in like 2020 and beyond will look at clips/documentaries and feel the same about Armada. Like they will only know of him....they will never get to experience what we all experienced in the moment while being a part of the scene as different iconic moments happened. Anyways. Thanks Armada! You are a legend and I’m glad I got to experience it first hand.

you can feel the immense weight this video has right from the start, armada ive been a lurking fan from years ago and hearing this even made me sad. but all in all you've had the best run of them all and we all knew it had to have ended somewhere but realisticly hearing it always comes as a shock. thank you for all of the epic moments you we and smash has had because of yu and good luck in everything to come!
I legitimately cried over this and I'm not embarrassed to admit it. Regardless of if he's your favorite player, everyone with surface knowledge of competitive smash melee grieves for the loss of the amazing and near unstoppable armada. People will be perpetually praising his legendary legacy forever nonetheless.
Thank you so much for all the great matches! Many of my friends would get together just to watch you over the years and I just want to thank you for all of those great times! You will be sorely missed and know that you are an inspiration to players all over the world especially Scandinavia! Best wishes!
It's a shame and huge loss to the community, but everyone just wants you to be happy. Glad you're doing what you think is best for you and taking care of yourself. Good luck man!!

melee has been around for so long, it's kinda normal to get kinda "bored" or "frustrated" at some point... melee has a really dedicated community and players... but when you've done melee for 10 years + ... kinda normal. I totally respect this decision my dude ;)
Francis L'Ectomorphe Not really, as he still plays friendlies with friends, and started his coaching/analyzing service. He will also still compete in doubles and attend events as well.
People have been doing chess for centuries and never quit. Melee is literally the same. It cannot die as long as there are people and means to play it.
I can see your tears Armada, you gave me so much inspiration to enter competitive melee because I have always been competitive in melee but not in a profesional level, I hope I can get to play with you one day because you are my number 1 favorite. I joined the melee scene in 2015, and in this short time I'm thankful to have witnessed your wholesome respect for your other players and your dedication to your fans, without learning the intricacies of how big mentality plays a part in games, I wouldn't be the more at ease and sharp minded person I am today, and I have you to thank for being one of the trailblazers to carry the melee torch and keep it burning. Thank you for all you've done Adam, we look forward to seeing you in doubles and as a much happier individual, ta hand om dig, friend.

You've accomplished so much, there isn't a single thing left to regret. You said it yourself, you wanted to be the best of all time, and you undoubtably did, so I can definitely understand. Rest easy for now, and hey if you ever wanna come back, the Melee community will always be there with open arms!
EvilApple567 me too then I realized it was his channel and I almost cried

Sorry to heart that. Best of luck man.
Holy crap these other replies are edgy as hell.
You should JV four stock her ass
Apparently sarcasm isn't acceptable.
The one time you want it to be clickbait...
To be honest though, I can't blame you. I have more respect for you than you could ever imagine. I hope you're proud of what you've done because it's not something to just gloss over. You've cemented your place in Smash Bros history.
Good maybe now the sweaty ass melee community can die
Melee is declining
Big Boss nice bait
How is Hbox semi retired
This makes me sad dude, I’ve been watching your amazing singles melee runs for years now, Thanks for all the crazy plays and hype you’ve given all of us. You really are a legend to all of us
Good Luck in your doubles runs amd everything else you do!
I think people need to understand this isn't meant to be a break, he is quitting singles
ZeRo quitting was good.
I thought so too but then we had Evo 2018...
sm4sh died when zero quit
Ian MEER fax
Oh my god, I almost cannot believe this... This might be the greatest loss the Melee community has seen in its entire history. It hurts, but I wish the best to you Armada!
Nobody can ever truly quit Melee, right guys???
SSB_Seal god I hope he just takes a break...
SSB_Seal he's already done this before. He will be back.
PPMD
Losing its Evo spot until 2013 was pretty big too
The greatest to ever touch a controller.
Armada is the GOAT
It's sad to see you go Adam but you've given so much to the smash community. you've had an amazing run. We'll all miss your peach in singles.
We all grow and change over time, and our inclinations and natural tendencies change as well. Congrats on all the successes and good luck in future directions :)
This isn't so bad. I thought you were gonna say that playing Smash broke your hands or something.
Yo Matt! I didn't know you followed Melee...?
He also follows conservative anti-SJWs.
Didn't think I'd see you of all people here.
"hey what the fuck is that an ebf profile pic"
"oh shit it's matt roszak"
I swear to god every person that does something completely unrelated to melee is guaranteed to be a melee fan.
Xander Katz that’s what I thought
leffen is the best right now but he might quit to
"Melee singles aren't going anywhere"
I wouldn't be so sure of that.
@ed champagne bro idk if your a troll but it's not a port
really sad to hear you're quitting singles. I love hearing your commentary though and would love to hear you on the mic during Big House
(Crowd cheering) ARMADA ARMADA ARMADA ARMADA ARMADA ARMADA.
The best Peach to ever exist. Your play was absolutely amazing to watch. You are a freaking awesome player and you have inspired me greatly. I'll miss the hell out of you.
On the bright side, we might finally be able to get more of that QUALITY Armada commentating 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

MagZ hi mike

@kamalindsey I do! Armada is probably my favorite smash player!
He is just quitting singles to take over Ultimate. 👌

I would lie if I say that I didnt see it coming, but I always thought "is Armada one of the 5 Gods he would never quit singles" but lately on the stream I noticed that your lack of motivation for singles
Do what you think is the best for you and be happy doing it.

I think Yayson is pretty guuud
Melee will be in a great position for years to come. You take all the time you need. I think trying your hand in more doubles, ultimate, and commentary would be healthy for you and the smart way to go about this. One of the best ways to recover from burnout is to take a break and do similar activities. You're doing the right thing. True melee fans more than understand.
Quitting mele singles =/= quitting Melee
Sure, but most people don't care about teams
End of an era
hold on genius over here guys
god left.
Sooooo Young Link?
Good luck to you Armada and may everything you do in the future be successful. Thanks for the entertainment over the years!
You already know armada, this had to happen at some point and what you said its very true: "you cant force motivation".
Feeling the same way about things Ive been doing for a big portion of my life so I understand the struggle, will continue supporting you and sincere thanks for what you've done for this community.
We all respect your decision armada, we all love you!!

Armada, I'm going to miss watching you play melee. we may play different games in the smash series, but you were a role model for me and drove me to do what i do. You will always be my favorite player and i will always consider you the GOAT of melee. I wish you the best for all your future endeavors!
Har följt dig och dina framgångar länge, tack för alla fantastiska matcher och ser fram emot att få se dig och android vinna teams. Gör det som känns rätt och var stolt över allt du gjort för smash scenen!
utmost respect for you as a person and player, Armada. glad to hear you've tried all avenues first :). the community will be sorry to see you go, but I hope you stick around for some doubles brackets with the brudder

Damn this is emotional, thank you armada for everything you did for the game and in my eyes you'll always be the best of all time
It’s crazy to think that this video will probably be referenced in a future smash documentary talking about the end of an era.
Damn. hurts my heart, but I understand and will continue to support you man
Even now, the name "Armada" strikes fear into anybody's heart who has to play him.
Thank you for your unwavering legacy.
Youtbe recommends to you "bizzaro flame best moments" thumbnail showing armada in defeat

Someone tell grsmash to do an armada best moments vid plz
damn you got your wish
Hey Armada- good luck with whatever road you decide to go down from this point on! From an Australian who forced her cousin to thank you for repping young link every now and then at the afterparty of BAM10 Melbourne, haha.
you can feel the immense weight this video has right from the start, armada ive been a lurking fan from years ago and hearing this even made me sad. but all in all you've had the best run of them all and we all knew it had to have ended somewhere but realisticly hearing it always comes as a shock. thank you for all of the epic moments you we and smash has had because of yu and good luck in everything to come!
Epic Ness yesterday I wanted Hbox to win, as he played my main, but this video made me watch the other gods, and Armada is definitely the one...
Crying over this LUL. Armada is a favorite player of mine but not going to cry over a dude who is retiring from a video game lol.

Power to you man, you inspired me and many other people to pick up Smash, and I hope you can find solace on the amount you've impacted this community.
Thank you so much for all the great matches! Many of my friends would get together just to watch you over the years and I just want to thank you for all of those great times! you inspired so many people in this community. hope everything turns out great in your life whatever you decide to do next. take care armada, hopefully we can still see you in a lot of future events even tho now you're only playing doubles
You are a legend man. Find what makes you happy and best of luck in this new chapter!
melee has been around for so long, it's kinda normal to get kinda "bored" or "frustrated" at some point... melee has a really dedicated community and players... but when you've done melee for 10 years + ... kinda normal. I totally respect this decision my dude ;)
kinda still gona miss my peach in top 8 haha
Francis L'Ectomorphe He’s not quitting melee in general, lmao. Only melee singles.
i mean that's still quitting the biggest part of melee my guy
Francis L'Ectomorphe Not really, as he still plays friendlies with friends, and started his coaching/analyzing service. He will also still compete in doubles and attend events as well.
People have been doing chess for centuries and never quit. Melee is literally the same. It cannot die as long as there are people and means to play it.
I can see your tears Armada, you gave me so much inspiration to enter competitive melee because I have always been competitive in melee but not in a profesional level, I hope I can get to play with you one day because you are my number 1 favorite. I hope you do well with this decision and I hope I get to know you someday....I would like tips because right know I'm just a Dk local in Mexico and I want to be better. In the end you were the best for me always the best, thank you for everything you did and will do for this community , we love you sniper 😭❤️️🇸🇪
That’s unfortunate. But do what you think is best for you, and we’ll respect that.
Thank you for all you've done Adam, we look forward to seeing you in doubles and as a much happier individual, ta hand om dig, friend.
love you, man. you inspired one of my best friends to pick up a controller and main peach, and he was the only person i knew in my city who would play with me, so thanks for that. melee will never die!
