Lets all give props to Armada for keeping the streak alive for 7 years and being so freaking good to the point where the 5-6th best player beating the 1st best player is an upset

Johan yeah but not by much. However, if it's armada, that upset is seen as a monumental achievement.
Not really, look at smash for now, Zero is still technically first but anyone that's even 10th isn't really an upset.
Plup I think has the potential to become the 3rd or 4th best, Hungrybox and Aramada are too consistent at winning, but Plup actually I think is the only person whose beaten Armada or Hungrybox with Sheik
Armada really showed what a great guy he is, INCREDIBLE sportsmanship. Graceful in victory and defeat.
Honestly, he plays lame, but he plays well, and his personality more than makes up for it.

Sheik already wins the MU, but I guess people will try learning to move like Plup's and wreck Peaches even more.
Plup actually holds the control stick with 2 fingers, so maybe that's why his Sheik play is currently unparalleled.

Matchups don't really mean anything at this level of play. Just look at Fox vs Puff, very much in Fox's favour, yet Hbox can eat almost any Fox the entire world can throw at him, including the likes of Leffen and Mango. Armada is exceptionally good vs Sheik, having multiple brothers that play her and a history of not dropping to Sheik's since Amsah. Even Mew2King, considered to be the best Sheik in the world for years, wouldn't even try to use her to try to beat Armada, settling for Fox or Marth.
This set is a turning point in Melee history.

Armada hasn't been beat by a non-god + Leffen or a Sheik in 7 years. Jesus.
Mister Shitpost Plup is also the only person to beat Hungrybox with Sheik, and I could be wrong, but I don't think Hungrybox has lost to anything except for Fox, and perhaps Falco...
Kirbykaze has beaten HBox with Sheik, PPMD and Westballz have beaten him with Falco, PPU has beaten him with Marth, Wizrobe has beaten him with Falcon, Wobbles has beaten him with Ice Climbers, and that's all just off the top of my head

Man, Armada's smile as soon as the forward tilt connects and he knew he was about to lose shows just how gracious he is in defeat... and Plup played out of his mind and probably no one watching stream was not hyped beyond all reason for how well he was playing. Watching this live (sadly not at the venue) was definitely one of the best moments of the entire year for me, to be honest

I think the most impressive part of the whole set is in the first game when Plup managed to stay composed after Armada evened it up with a stitch despite being behind the whole game.

tbh ppmd's been gone for so long i just automatically think of leffen as one of the 5 gods, and he kinda fits, he had a dominant streak in 2015ish where he just seemed unbeatable.

The only thing separating him was that he didn't have an Armada win. Now he does. :) And you can easily make an argument for him being above Leffen now, so Leffen is 6th and Plup is 5th, although Mang0 and M2K are a shaky 3rd/4th atm. If Pulp wins over them again.. then he'll probably go up to 4th.
Idk plup and leffen both have one set off armada this year, but I feel that they could both be 6th or 5th. Leffen won DPOTG and goml as well as 2nd at smash n splash 3 while plup only won dreamhack Atlanta 2nd at ceo

Insane play from Plup and Armada, I love to think about the effect that this will have on the "five gods" narrative if this type of play from Plup continues. Also DJ and Chillin are pretty great commentators
The streak is still alive. The rules behind it is that Armada can't lose to anyone ranked below the Top 6, and Plup is 5th.
That's only because PPMD isn't officially ranked at the moment. People basically just mean the other gods and Leffen.
That was with PPMD in the rankings.

Beating Armada usually meant you probably won the tournament and in the eyes of the people I think Plup definitely did! Still feels kinda weird seeing Armada lose which says a lot about him, what a god!
