Brilliant. Whenever i use aerosols i always soak them in a bucket of warm water for 10-15 mins before hand, get the cans nice and warm

I might be doing the very same thing soon.
Just got to get the GTV (possibly one incoming) and build the confidence to do it.

Haha thanks Dean. I’ve just treated myself to a new expansion tank/coolant bottle. I’ve tried a few different methods for cleaning the old tanks in the past with little success

Very very good job dude. It is definitely like a professional paint job. Most important thing is to clean the surface well. And you have done this very very well.

Looks spot on well worth the effort over winter. At 3:37 looks like 312 written in chalk or a paint pen. I got a little trigger gun from wicks that clips on top of rattle cans, I cant recommend it enough.

Hi, yes you are correct. I Haven’t a clue what those markings could be. With regards to the trigger sprayers……I have thought about those in the past. I may give one a try soon enough 👍🏼

Looking good Rick! I’ve used vactan rust converter on my van a while ago and it seems decent stuff. The stuff you have is handy being in an aerosol for getting in all the awkward areas.

Good work there Rick, like you I use Surfex and find it brilliant as a cleaner/degreaser.
Very inspiring, when the time comes for me to do mine I’ll be using this as a reference 👍

Thanks Jason. Yep, the Surfex HD is amazing stuff. A proper all purpose cleaner and it’s even good for upholstery 👍🏼

    Hi Rick, great job.
Who do you use for the Zinc Plating? I’ve had some done but I’ve found that if there is heavy corrosion then the finish is not great.
Things like the large nut on the rear subframe for the long bolt for example
As we learn, we get braver…great work and inspiring

Hi David. I know exactly what you mean. Platers do generally treat hardware prior to plating but its not really adequate for anything with stubborn rust. The absolute best thing to do is remove the rust yourself prior to plating. To do this, soak your hardware in a vinegar bath for 1-2 weeks. I usually buy up to 10 bottles of non branded vinegar from any local supermarket for around 20p each! It does the job very well. Once the vinegar has done it’s job, soak the hardware in WD-40 to prevent flash rust then drop them off at the platers. The plater I have used is Karas plating in Leigh. They aren’t cheap but the finish is far superior to anywhere else I have used. You should also be able to do it via post if you live too far away. I do plan to cover this subject in a future episode as I have many things to be plated myself during this little project.
      Rick
