- This video shows some of the steps to install a 3" "spacer lift" on a 2003 - 2011 Panther platform (Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis or Marauder, Lincoln Town Car) also some bonus footage of putting it to work in the Gambler 500 TN.
Great Vid- You are the only one to do a comprehensive guide on installing the lift !
Thanks! 👍
Agreed 🙌
Hello from Florida, I'm Juan and my question is where do I find the front spacers?
Best one still out of them all
Out of all the videos you the only one that shows the direct way most people are looking for 💪💯🇺🇸
Amazing video. Perfect explanations

3:52 is what you’re looking for. SHOCKS FROM 97-02 f-150 4 wheel drive if you’re having issues with your kit extensions
Great vid. Really thinking about a double stretch limo as a dumb family car project. And this would def make it more fun and drivable.
Thanks! I Just got a Crown Vic and Looking to do a lift. I've got a 2006 and was looking at 2003 F150 rear shocks. Question Did you have to get new springs for the rear or did you keep stock? Looks like you did If I'm correct.
Second. for the 265 tire did you have to do any cutting or did it fit and do the full sweep with no rubbing?
For the 265/75R16 tires to fit was the frame chop required? Do you know what size one can go with a stock frame without needing to trim and without any possibility for rubbing?
You really should download the soundtrack from the Burr Reynolds movie White Lighting...it goes and flows excellent with a car driving off road
I ordered a set of 2003 rwd kyb excel rear shocks from a f150 for my 2003 grand marquis. Do I need to cancel the order and get 99-02 4WD shocks ?
Can I get your opinion on f150 springs all around and f150 shocks. If so can you explain it to me? On a 99 grand marquis
I don't know much about the older models, they use a completely different front suspension. Check out the Facebook page for offroad crown vics.
I'm having an issue with the strut hitting the front lower control arm. Strut fits without spacer but not with. Any idea on what I can do or any strut replacement I can use for it to work?
It seems to be hit or miss if they hit or not, most people have issues with the steel arms but I believe the aluminum P71 Crown Vic arms have more clearance
Did you need extended upper control arms? I have a Universal Car Lifts 3 inch lift and my 2010 CVPI does not like the spacer cups in the front, keeps eating my ABS sensor connector.
I used the original upper arms with no issues. I'll have to look at my abs sensor and see how it's routed, I've not had any issues with it.
Ever figured this out? I can't even hook up the sway bar link back in spindle
Gonna be doing this to my p71 soon do I need to weld that cup for the rear?
If you have a welder or access to one it's a good idea. We've done a bunch of hard off roading and only lost a spring cup one time in a highly unusual situation!
Quick question would you recommend that I use beefier Springs in the back
Lots of people use the rear springs out of the late 90s Expedition instead of the cups/stock spring combo.
Viewed was definitely helpful.
Where did you get your kit from?
Do you have the info for me to order them?
Ordered from Liftabrand, just go on their website and you'll find it.
What do you do about the rear brake lines. I installed the rears and there was a lot of tension on the line. I wouldn't be surprised if it rips off at full droop.
I (and many people) just unbolt the bracket from the frame and let them hang. Some use a small piece of metal to make a "bracket" extension too.
@@stephenprahl2861 okay thanks
I put a 3 inch lift on my 95 Mercury grand Marquis I’m trying to do the front now but the lower control arm won’t lineup any suggestions
Get the biggest spring compressor you can find. Compressing the spring, a lot, is the only way to get everything back together.
Im getting a 5" for my 08 p71 3"cups and 2"body thats way cheaper than getting 5" cups made i just hope i want need upper tubular arms i had a guy in dallas who had 4"cups with no extending upper tubular arms on 28s
With the 3 inch cups you won't need the tubular arms.
I have a 2000 grand marquis,i been thinking about lifting it 2-3 inches, where can i find these spacers?
Great video by the way bro.
Thanks
Liftabrand is the main one most people use. Your suspension is different being a pre-2003, in many ways its simpler up front. Thanks for kind words!
Are you running the sway bars.front or rear ? Took mine off the get the strut.in an doesn't want to go back in
I'm not running the sway bars. This is a Gambler build so I wanted more flex. You may have to create longer "links" to get the swaybar to connect.
Do you have a specific parts list. Will it work on police interceptor? Shocks on a 97 tto 03 f150 from the rear?
Liftabrand 3" donk lift kit.
2001ish F150 4wd shocks.
2007ish Jeep Wrangler wheels and tires

@@mightybearmotors6620 front or rear shocks
@@marshallrc79 sorry, rear shocks from the F150.
Can you link where you got your lift spacers and what did you use the shocks off of
3" kit from Liftabrand, just Google and you'll find them. Rear shocks are just 2002 Ford F150 4x4 rear shocks, I got mine from Rockauto.com
@@stephenprahl2861 is it any Pacific brand I have a 04 Lincoln town car
What size is those 6 bolts going through the spacers
The bolts from the strut mounts up are factory. The bolts from the spacers to the subframe came with the liftabrand kit, probably about 1.5"?
I have a 04 grand marquis and I’m wondering if I do a 3 inch lift what’s the biggest wheel I could run with that lift? Any response will help
Wheel, or tire? People run about a 31" inch overall diameter easily, or a 32" with some rubbing.
@@mightybearmotors6620 thanks for the response
What size shocks??
I tax welded the cups to axle. Don’t wanna lose a spring
Do any problems come about from increasing the front arm angles?
Haven't experienced any after 2600 miles of use and abuse. You likely increase wear on upper ball joint so be aware of that.
There's a guy on Facebook you can buy custom drop down ball joints off if for the Panthers.
My car dont have struts so what could i do to lift the front
They make "cups" that go under the spring. I'm assuming you're talking about an older gen Crown Vic?
Hi how reliable have the front strut cups been? my friend is weary of using them.
Over 5k miles on them and over 1500 HARD miles of abuse on multiple Gambler 500 trips and trips to offroad parks, I've had no issues. Additionally, I'm part of several offroad/lifted Panther groups on FB and I've never seen someone have a failure of a front lift cup. The rears can pop out under extreme situations if not tack welded on the axle.
@@mightybearmotors6620 Have your ball joints or other suspension parts had any trouble? Steering?
@@crigger No issues so far. I didn't even do an alignment. Probably should have but so far so good!
Thinking about this because i drive in vermont on snowboard trips a lot. i dont want to mess with my highway driving too much though. i like to car camp on back roads and they can be dicy. i have a 2005 88k miles
I might recommend just buying a second set of wheels and running a taller tire with a snow tread
@@mightybearmotors6620 Already doing that. I still bottomd out a few times on snow. I have the sumioto snow tires i swap out in the winter they do give me and inch or two of clearence. guesss i can only expect to do some much
@@kosycat1 The only issue I see with you doing the lift and still wanting to use the car as a daily street driver is you'll want to figure out some way to keep the sway bars connected. I took mine off because we wanted more flex/articulation but it does lean/sway a lot under cornering now.
Do you have to trim the fenders at all with stock tires
No, not even with slightly larger 235/75r16 tires.
What brand lift is this?...I just saw a lift for nearly 1000..seems a bit to much for me
Liftabrand 3" for $195

All that offroading was done with a open diff even through that mud?? And what else did you do to the car? Took the front bumper off and did you raise the front radiator? I cant see it.
Yes, all done with open diff. Momentum and wheel speed are your friend! Nothing else done to the car besides the suspension, wheels and tires, and body trimming/bumper removal. This video is old, I have since installed a 3.55 posi rear axle, snorkel, and hard wired the electric fan.
@@stephenprahl2861 niiice this is awesome
Did you have to change the upper control arms?
I didn't, but some people do have issues with the stamped steel control arms rubbing on the spring. Many people switch to the aluminum control arms and flip the ball joint for better clearance and ball joint angle.
Can you use the rear lift on air bags
I don't believe so. You can contact liftabrand and see what they suggest for lifting the rear when you have airbags. Goodluck!
@@mightybearmotors6620 thank you
Oh and one more thing(Columbo) if you want to be able to carry some more weight in the back that 3" lift won't last long with the stock springs before the springs start to sag a bit so you're just as well to go ahead and get Ford expedition rear coil springs they're about 2 inches taller over all and they're made with a thicker wire I actually use the 3" spacers cut down to 2 and the expedition Springs with the stock police interceptor shocks on the rear with the mounts moved up 4 and a 1/2 inches and it rides like a
carebear on a cloud!!!🚓💨🧸☁️
I have an 07 which year expedition coil springs should I purchase?
@@mikemixson559 All expedition rear Springs are the(except airride models same and will fit on all 03 and up Crown Vic rear ends and you don't need the spacers if you only want a couple inches of lift and some more preload in the rear.
Any idea what springs for a 97? I was told expedition for the rear and old buick springs for the front. With Chevy Silverado shocks alway round.
@@skeetermcswagger0U812 hello I have an 04 town car and I don’t want to lift a whole 3 inches can I put the expedition shocks in the back with crown Vic coil springs. Will it sit higher
@@elmerhamilton2206 The only shock absorbers that will necessarily increase ride height are air shocks, which you can use but just putting taller shocks doesn't equal more height.
That thing is mean sounding. What do you have in it?
It's running open cats. Just unbolted and removed the whole exhaust from the cats back. At some point I want to make an h-pipe to merge the flow and turn out the exhaust so it doesn't exit right under the front seats.
Are the f150 shocks an exact fit
The eyelet/lower shock mount hole is a little larger than the Grand Marquis bolt, but you could drill the mount on the axle larger and use a bigger bolt. I didn't and I haven't had any issues in 2500 miles of use.
What holds the rear spring to the riser?🤔
In my case, nothing. It's rarely an issue, but most people recommend putting a few tack welds on to hold it in place.
I'm wondering should I do this
Go for it!
can you help me lift mine?
I hope I did through this video!
I'm running the same size tire with no lift no cutting. I wanna lift so I can stuff some 265 75 16 mudders on it.
Oh and I wanna add a nice locker with a 4.88 gear.
I'm pretty sure you'll have to trim the back of the front wheel well to clear the 265/75r16 even with the lift.
I've never had to remove the calipers and loosen all those suspension parts to install mine (x3)
Some of this was just us not being sure, good to know I can save those steps next time!
What size tires are you running?
265 75r16 General Grabber AT2
@@mightybearmotors6620 cool , thanks
How did you get the bottom bolt lined back up after putting the cup on? I am stuck at this part
On the front shock? I don't remember any difficulty once we loosened all the control arm bolts.
@@mightybearmotors6620 did you loosen the lower control arm?
@@mr.hewitt1321 yes, makes the install much easier because you're not fighting the bushings being "bound up"
@@mightybearmotors6620 ok i will try tomorrow and get back to you. I shut it down today. Since the cup is on the strut, it makes it longer. I got close but, I could not get it lined up in order to get the bolt through. I was thinking i needed a spring compressor to compress it and make it shorter but I'm not sure if that is the right method or possible and I never use it before. Hopefully loosening up the LCA gives me the freedom to get everything lined up.
Did you install a locker
I installed a 3.55 posi unit from a police interceptor.
is there any links to the parts?

Where are you located i need some advice or maybe a job for u
I'm in Lexington SC. What is your issue? I'll try to help!
I would use taller springs instead of cups for the rear.
For the FRONT, REAR struts from a 2002 Exploder will lift the front 3 inches without a spacer.
I amd going to do this and make a video.
Many people use the rear springs from a 2000ish Expedition, I believe they are Moog part number 81149 as well.
I've seen several people use the Explorer struts but they are a more complicated setup and I haven't seen anyone really demonstrate any benefits yet. Looking forward to your video and hearing how they work for you!
Did you have to swap the control arms or all stock with explore struts
Needs a license plate that says DUNK
Haha maybe!
Fanangle
Umm I think you wanna put those cups at the top of the Spring and you don't have to replace the shocks you can either cut the mount off of the back of the axle and move it up 3" and re Weld it or cut the brackets off of another core altogether and add another bracket 3" above the original bracket then you can still use your original rear shocks if they're still good no point and change in parts that are still use it usable and in good condition.
I did this lift on my mad Max car that's in the thumbnail and those front suspensions are a pain in the ass nuts!!!!🤬
( If I ever do this sort of thing again I'm either gonna buy a 2002 and older or just do a body lift.)
One day ppl will realize wasting your money on shocks that are only for a truck and go spend money on a simpler way to raise the back of their car with lift cups there’s also an easier way to do the front without using those stupid leveling lift in the front
What do you recommend?
@@mightybearmotors6620 depends on how high you really want to go but I’m don’t recommend the f150 shocks I don’t ride big tires on cars so with that being said since so many ppl are doin big tires now days I’d do the cups in front an back with 4 1 1/2 twist in spacers in the front an then along with the lift cups in rear I’d put a set of exstended airshocks
step one. WASH CAR FIRST. 😁
