- Join us for a trip down memory lane as we take a look back at Six Flags Great Adventure, located in Jackson, New Jersey, in 2005.
Some of the now defunct rides from this era include:
Batman And Robin: The Chiller
Great American Scream Machine
Rolling Thunder and Viper.
Kingda Ka was new for this season, we managed to catch a few clips of the coaster testing prior to opening to the public later in the season.

2006 season was the greatest for great adventure having kingda ka, El toro, Nitro, The chiller, great American scream machine and rolling thunder all open when the park used to be stacked with top tier coasters.
AGREED; sucks The Chiller had so many issues that's why it was taken down in 2007, in my opinion the Green Lantern stand up coaster should've been built behind the Scream Machine or the Superman coaster instead of demolishing it, additional coasters attracts larger crowds. trust me man i 1st came here in 2001 it was a lit day, Kingda Ka wasn't made then though
scream machine was removed because of track issues that were not fixable @@jayydarailfaner549
There were plans to build an on-site hotel at Great Adventure after Kingda Ka opened. It would be in the parking lot between the Scream Machine and Kingda Ka. If Six Flags didn't get into financial problems, the park would quickly become the next Cedar Point. Sadly, that didn't materialize.
@@dchang11 Yeah, I always questioned why SFGA didn't have hotels or resort options, but they started working on that this year. They opened up the safari resort, which looks really nice actually.
Definitely a better lineup than they have now. I love a good variety of coasters. Should have kept Great American scream machine, but at the same time I love green lantern. A lot don’t know but scream machine is the reason great adventure is still around. They were on the verge of going under from the haunted house fire and other factors. Scream machine brought crowds when it was built
Amazing. This is the Great Adventure that still exists in my memory. Thanks for the awesome video.
Pleased it brought back some happy memories, thanks for watching 🙂
When six flags was good..and well themed. Everything was open. Nothing closed. Good times
Agreed, except batman and robin the chiller was down a lot due to how much power it took to operate the ride. I remember being a kid and only Robin would be open, or neither. Lowkey want them to bring it back because I never got to ride it as a kid
Agreed. Spent many summers of my childhood on these rides. Used to drive down from New York, about a 3hr drive with family in the late 90s and early 2000s. My parents would take me every summer as long as my grades were good in school. And I always got to bring a friend with me. We'd drive down, get a hotel, and then spend the entire day at the park from open to close, crash at a hotel and drive home the next morning. We always went on weekdays too, since the lines were typically better. I don't think the fast pass type systems that let you jump the line were in place yet, but a few times it felt like we had the entire park to ourselves.
The rides I remember the most:
Medusa(my favorite)
Batman The Ride
Batman and Robin
Nitro
Great American Scream Machine
Rolling Thunder
Viper
And then some of the other classics like the Log Flume and there was a bigger version of the log flume that held more people and got you WAY more soaked. Awesome on a hot day. Medusa was brand new when we were going to the park. Six Flags at that time was like larger than life. I'd say that was it's heyday. From like the mid 90s to 2006.
Thank you for bringing back the sights and sounds of The Chiller, Scream Machine and Rolling Thunder. They were in fact Great Adventure. It was great to hear the great theme park music of yesteryear. I’ll take those sounds over a B&M roar any day!🎢
They were both great coasters. Rolling Thunder was a bit rough, but ridden far worse.
thank you for this video! I was 10 when this was filmed and went here with my family and friends as a kid. As soon as I got my license in 2013 I make the drive from Long Island to spend the day at the park and ride the rides, still to this day on my off days haha... I appreciate this video more than you know!
The park has changed so much since 2005, it's a nice little piece of history. Thank you for watching 🙂
My father has fond memories of this park during this time. I showed him this video and he was astonished about how vivid everything was. Thank you for the work you do, it doesn’t go unnoticed!
Thank you 🙂
Nice POV's for Great American Scream Machine, Rolling Thunder, and the "Robin" side of the Chiller. Thanks for posting this and hope we can see more classic footage in future uploads!
Thanks. We have a lot of classic footage from various parks over the years. It's not something that will get uploaded weekly, but we will continue to upload it all the time people want to watch it 🙂
@@XtremeCoasters sound good do me!
Ahh Batman an robin the chiller … loved that ride although it never worked right
Same.
The heyday of Great Adventure. They'd do one more big project with El Toro the next year. Then Six Flags kneecapped the place for a while. They're finally starting to see larger investments again, but they've had so many operational issues the last couple years.
Brings back memories!! Now I am taking my kids there.. how time flies!!
Wow 😂 It sure does!
I wish that red loop roller coaster was still there
The Great American Scream Machine.
My first loopty loop rollercoaster haha it gave terrible headaches it’s last few years
@@Mmmmmmmmmnmnn that’s crazy shit, but now green lantern replaced it and that ride is one that I like
I moved to Orlando, FL from NYC at the end of the 2009 season (my last year working at GA). This is the era that I hold close to my heart. I still go to the park when I go home to visit, but in my head, the park still looks like this (plus El Toro). Thanks for sharing. -Dainan 😉
This was our first visit to the park, so we also have fond memories of the park back in the 2000's. Appreciate you taking the time to watch 🙂
@@XtremeCoasters anytime pal 😎
This was so cool this brought me back and I've been going to Six Flags Great Adventure since 1985❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Pleased you enjoyed it, thank you for watching :)
What a time. It was truly a spectacle, ruined by the recession. I’ll always be saddened when I see how it was before.
It looks so different, I remember seeing these rides when I was little
It has definitely changed a lot since 2005!
That year, Kingda Ka opened.
It sure was. The footage of Kingda Ka at the end of the video was it testing 🙂
This is some legit stuff!!! So cool seeing what it was like back then, wow. Thank you for sharing this content!
There have been a lot of changes at the park over the past 18 years for sure. Thanks for watching 🙂
Oh and scream machine and rolling thunder were good for neck damage lol
The year before I was born
Nostalgic asf! Scream machine was rough asf!!😢
We don't remember it being the smoothest, it was still a fun coaster though.
Awesome stuff, these videos are so great and give me a feel of what theme parks were like decades ago!
Thanks 🙂
Great video
Thank you. It's not the quality we film and upload in today's videos, camera technology has moved on a lot since 2005!
Nice Video My Dad Was On Great American Scream Machine Coaster In The 1990s When He Was In High School
Awesome :) It's nice to look back at how much the park has changed in the past 18 years. Still remember the day this was filmed like it was yesterday lol
@XtremeCoasters Network What Going On In Viper Is Something New Coming In The New Year 2006 ?
@@csxisaiahjonesproductions2290 That would be El-Toro 😁
My favorite ride there is wonder woman
I used to go on only 3 coasters when I was in YACHAD before I have retinal detachments in 2005, but I stopped going on rides due to eye issues by restrictions by a retinal specialists.
The Chiller was awesome. I wish I could remember which side I rode in 1998.
It was such a unique coaster. It's a shame they couldn't iron out the issues that seem to have plagued it from the very first season.
So odd seeing Kingda Ka and Scream Machine in the same video!
It was an iconic looking combo!
This was actually the first American Amusement Park I went to when I was new to the United States with my parents and Younger Broski the Great American Scream Machine I miss the most considering it saved Great Adventure from Bankruptcy in the early 90’s when it was Brand New that coaster was also the first one I went on that went upside down the year after where I kept my eyes opened the entire ride while going upside down and Hydra the Revenge which I rode as my first looping coaster along with Batman the ride at Great Adventure were my first two looping coasters that I ever done in my entire life considering Romania in Europe did not have any looping coasters like ever nor of this scale only old school pinfary style sit down coasters at it’s parks in the late 90’s and early 2000’s
It was a little rough, but it was still a great coaster.
@@XtremeCoasters better than Green Lantern that’s for sure I would argue that Rolling Thunder gave me more of a headache than my Rides on Scream Machine ever did
Those where the good old days
They sure were 🙂
Was it better back then or today?
Some say yes, some say no. It really depends on your preference of "better".
I was born in 2005
Catch a Robin ride at 9:50!

At 4:49 I can see that one failed Togo coaster. Didn't they remove it and put in another steel coaster there? I know they reused the queue building for it. RIP Togo.........You were an interesting company. Also nice footage. My favorite POV was The Chiller. That was also a cool ride. Sad it also failed.
Thanks 🙂 They removed it along with Rolling Thunder to build El-Toro for the 2006 season. The Chiller was an ace coaster, such a shame it couldn't be saved.
@@XtremeCoastersthey didn’t remove rolling thunder in till after el toro was built. both coasters ran together at one point
@@Huntbeck33 Yes, correct. It wasn't removed until 2013.
