🔵 The Best Key West Snorkeling Reef is the Sand Key Light House! This Amazing reef is a marine sanctuary that is located at the very tip of the Florida Keys and is 6 Nautical miles south west of Key West. This reef is always loaded with hundreds of fish and beautiful coral and is home to dozens of species of fish to include Barracuda, Sharks, Parrotfish, Blue Tangs, Angelfish, and many more. Sand Key is the top reef to snorkel from Key West and a number of local tour boats head there every day such as the Fury Water Adventures and Sebago catamarans. This video was shot with the latest Go Pro Hero 7 Black cameras and a Mavic Air Drone.

Hi, that’s really cool that you own the light house. Sand key is one of my two favorite snorkeling locations in Keys. I also really like Looe Key.

I snorkeled this lighthouse in 1971 and it was covered by beatiful coral as far as the eye could see. 100+ foot visibility too. There were schools of barracuda and every kind of coral and fish at that time. Too bad to see that fertilizer runoff has caused algae growth that has smothered the coral.

Beautiful. We're you on fury tour? I'm not good swimmer, I don't see life vest on tour? We planning to go next couple of weeks. How deep is water close to the light house in sand key reef?

H i, I have my own boat, but the Fury was there at the same time as I was. The Fury and the Sebago both go to the reef all of the time. I think boat companies go out at least 4 times a day.
The water is only 3-4 feet near the light house. The average depth is 5-12 feet and the deepest gets to about 20-25 feet about 200 yards away from the light house.
All of the boat charter companies have life jackets available or noodles that people use all of the time when they’re snorkeling. Many people that aren’t good swimmers go on the snorkel trips. Just let the crew know you prefer to have. Slide jacket and tell them that you’re not a great swimmer and they’ll look after you.
