  • Go snorkelling with us in Paradise (along with some Sharks and Jew Fish) at a favorite Key West Snorkeling Reef known as Looe Key Marine Sanctuary. This location is the closest place to paradise that you can find if you want to go snorkeling. Its home to a massive reef with dozens of species of fish, but Looe Key is famous for always having reef sharks and Jew Fish (Goliath Grouper). While snorkeling today we saw 4 sharks and a 200 lb Jew Fish.
Make sure you watch the portion of the video where our friend gets a scare from a 6 foot reef shark that decides to circle us and comes in for a closer look. We were all a bit scared when it came in closer, but especially one of our friends that was visiting from out of town. Come to Key West and snorkel with sharks!!

➤ Looe Key is the best reef in the Florida Keys if you want to nearly guarantee that you'll see a shark and / or Goliath Grouper during your trip or travels to Key West, Florida. This should be a "DON"T MISS" adventure if you visit Key West. By the way, no one has ever been harmed by a shark at Looe Key, but the reef sharks can get your pulse going if you've never seen one in the water before.
➤ Looe Key is also home to a few Goliath Grouper, which are massive fish and have been know to get up to 7-8 feet in length and weigh as much as 70o lbs. I've always seen at least one or more when I've snorkeled at the Looe Key Reef in the past. Int this video we see one that is actually a baby and weighs in around 150-200 lbs and is approximately 5 feet long. The grouper are peaceful and often just hang out below the shadow of the visiting snorkeling boats. They are pretty amazing and they're always a subject of any visitors underwater camera. We also so Parrotfish, Blue Tangs, Yellow Tails, Barracuda, and many more....
➤ Looe Key is located 20 miles east of Key West as the crow flies. If you don't have your own boat, you can drive approximately 27 miles north from Key West on Highway 1 to Looe Key Reef Dive Center located at 27340 Overseas Hwy, Ramrod Key, FL 33042. Once there you can book a ride out to the reef on their dive / snorkel boat.
    ➤ Their website is:www.looekeyreefresort.com/
➤ We had a relatively good day regarding weather with a small ripple. The visibility was relativley good with approximately 40 foot visibility, but the best days for snorkeling here are on flat calm days with a lot of sun.

I think sand key reef is the best in Key West for seeing fish. This reef has hundreds of parrot fish. I’ve seen a few turtles on that reef but they’re not very common. I actually saw 3 turtles within a mile of sand key key reef last weekend, but not on the reef for some reason.
North of key west about 25 miles is Looe Key reef, which has a lot of fish and normally of Goliath Grouper, which are huge. They’re really cool to see.
Those are two favorite reefs for seeing fish in the lower keys. I hope that this helps.

We saw a couple sharks on this trip, the largest being a 6 foot reef shark that got a little too close for comfort. We also saw a Goliath Grouper, which made this our best snorkeling trip this year for seeing large animals.

I think he lost his leg at the Looe Key Reef, which is about 20 miles north of key west. So sad.

Hi, This video was shot at Looe Key, which is about 25 miles north and east of Key West on the east side of Highway 1. There is a company called Looe Key Dive that takes visitors out to dive or snorkel there. They're a great company!!
The light house in Key West is called "Sand Key Light House", which is about 12 miles South West of Key West, which is also amazing. Most Dive and snorkel companies in Key West can take you to the Sand Key Light House as well as a few other great reefs in the area (ie, Eastern Dry Rocks, Western Dry Rocks, etc).
Thanks for watching the video! I have 2 videos that show Sand Key light house too if you're interested in seeing what that reef looks like. Looe Key usually has a shark or two and a Goliath Grouper, where Sand Key has more parrot fish, but no goliath groupers and an occasional reef shark.
