Hate to be that guy but... repeating shot is absolutely wasted on artillerists. You don't get multi attack and all your attacks are spell attacks, not weapon attacks. The main advantage of repeating shot is that it lets you ignore the loading property of crossbows or firearms. Doesn't do anything for spell attacks tho.
Enhanced arcane focus is the infusion you want to get for this subclass. Artillerist is a spell slinging subclass, despite what the name suggests.

Had a new player play an artilerist artificer as their first character. A preface, artificer is the "make everything a nail when you have a hammer"
Bandits were in a room. There was a Guy was in a straight line behind the door. Players knew he was in there. I'm a rule of cool dm. Cue artilerist "I mount my arti cannon right in front of the door, and fire at the door. Im trying to hit someone with the door, so Im going to use the force damage setting" "Roll a d6 for me. On a 1 to 3 the door splinters, on a 4 to 6 the door flies off the hinges and possibly hits the guy behind it." He rolled a 6. Proceeded to send a heavy oak door careening at the poor sad sack of crap behind it. I gave the bandit a dex save which he failed with like. A 3. I let it be an insta kill just to see how he would describe it. All he said Was "Knock Knock MoFucka." I got to describe how a door could theoretically split someone in twain.

A point if your DM doesn’t allow you to play an artillerist because it doesn’t fit their world: An artillerist is essentially just a specialized Wand crafter, the game has magic items like wands of fireball or magic missile then an artillerist can fit.
Tendency to make chemical projectile propellant aside, Artificer is a class built around creating and using magic items. They absolutely fit into D&D. And if you're going to point at intricate mechanisms as too advanced, I'm going to point to high level dungeon traps and even massive sprawling mechanisms like the interlocking rotating room puzzles in Tomb of Annihilation. D&D has magical airships, animated armors, biopunk starships, and more. Artificers belong.
Like some people do make homebrew settings that are more low fantasy and aritificer would break the tone, but online discourse acts like this is way more common than it is, while most games aren't quite xenoblade chronicles or final fantasy, they are closer to that than early medieval history, we had guns in the renaissamce artificer (and guns) fit.
Granted I haven't played DnD a lot so don't know much, but I'm just thinking that at least in BG3 they have bombs that can be thrown and barrels of not quite gunpowder, (granted I don't know if that was just for the game or if it's in DnD too) but I my head that should make at least rudimentary firearms possible
Absolutely, the subclass may refer to cannons and arcane firearms but the cannon is just a better version of the Tiny Servant spell with the summon having some effects just slightly better than cantrips and the Arcane Firearm is just a fancy wand, literally just a class-specific a spellcasting focus, it can't fire projectiles
@@Cassapphic Even in low fantasy guns should be allowed at some point. In real history guns and plate armour shared the battlefield for a few hundred years.
Now we only need a video about the alchemist in order to complete the Artficer subclasses.
The fact you find a picture that fits every topic must take quite the effort. I must say, it is very pleasing to watch with that classic ymbaDND ethusiasm and humor!
Quick tip about Spell Storing item: An Artillerist can do the following with this feature because Artificers can make any item that can be used as an arcane focus a spell storing item.
Why this matters is because ANY infused item in an Artificer's hands is an Arcane Focus. Because of this rule, the following options are possible:
Improved arcane focus of scorching ray/ shatter. Enjoy your new ray gun/ grenade launcher!
Cloak of elvenkind with invisibility: You now have an invisibility cloak!
Boots of elvenkind with invisibility: Click your heels and turn invisible with the benefit of having muffled footsteps!
Homunculus servant with scorching ray/ shatter/ Thunderwave: Enjoy your own personal attack drone that can fire powerful attack spells on your bonus action!
Bag of holding with catapult: Launch your stored items out with impressive force!
Homunculus servant of cure wounds: MEDIC!
Homunculus servant of Vortex Warp: Pocket Teleporter!
Arcane focus of heat metal: Probably the best debuff spell in the game. Try it out!
This becomes even more fun if your DM allows you to use extra charges to upcast. Either way, have fun with this info fellow gremlins!
P.s.( Make LOTS of wands of magic missiles for your party. They are only uncommon, and are therefore easy for an Artificer to make. Keep in mind that your homunculus servant may be able to use these wands as well. Javelins of lightning are also uncommon. Allow your party fighter to cosplay as Zeus!)
Our party is such that everyone can use Javelins so my Battle Smith made the Jav of Lightning, one per party member. We caught an enemy horde in a narrow canyon and their boss laughed as we readied our javelins. Smoked like 80% of them round 1!
I'm just picturing loading magic missile wants like shotgun slugs into your wooden carved boomstick.
Artillerist is Mister Torgue. EXPLOSIONS? They'd make a gun that shoots exploding swords. Sword-spolsion

How to fit artificer into medieval setting? Say is a magical blacksmith, you didnt use modern weapons, you use magical dust that goes boom, just like wizard make fireballs and have a staff that do it, you have a stick that do the same

Level 12 Artillerist Artificer:
Infusions:
• Boots of Flight - (basically, as much flight as you need in short bursts, because if you use it for its minimum duration 1 minute intervals, you're dashing 600ft per use, and get between 120 and 240 uses a day.)
• Cloak of Protection - +1 AC, +1 all saving throws
• Spell Refueling Ring. - Restore up to one 3rd level slot per day.
• Homonculus - (Flying Small Creature) Holding a rock as the spell storing item with 8-10 uses of Invisibility.
The Homonculus has 30ft fly speed and moves on its own, and automatically takes the dodge action. If you see a fight coming, pop the cannon and order the homonculus to pick up the cannon(free item interaction) and use the spell storing item to go invisible, then fly up into the sky.
Items of importance:
• Staff of Adornment - Stores three items in its tip. Could do better with the Artificer exclusive Multi-tool with +1, but that doesn't technically work with arcane firearm, but this way I can throw a potion or magical tinkering item(s) in the tip of the staff until I need it.
• +1 Half-Plate
• Alchemy Jug: This used to be an infusion, but it proved so much fun to the party that the DM added a side quest for us to get one.
Congrats, your eldritch cannon is now invisible and has a 30 ft fly speed *that won't be broken when the cannon attacks,* since the invisibility spell is on the *homonculus* not the eldritch cannon. Also the Homonculus can move for free and just takes the dodge action unless it needs to cast invisibility again.
I'm not sure which sounds more fun; roving sentry guns that blast your enemies while you sit back and relax- or having them mounted on your shoulders so you can blast them with a shoulder cannon as you run around like a mad-man.
Superior option is clearly having two shoulder-mounted cannons and the Winged Boots, but using thrusters instead of wings.
And then you’ve got your Arcane Firearm in your hand for firing spells. Grab a single level in Wizard for Magic Missile and now you’ve got blasts for days.

One thing that'd allow a DM to permit the Artillerist is to just reflavor the Eldritch cannon as a wizards wand. Cause I mean heck, Artificers at their core are just magic item crafters and even in a high fantasy setting someone's gotta be making those wizard wands.
I play a lvl 6 Forest Gnome Artillerist and I LOVE IT! My dude renders the fat from animal products to fuel his fire-based attacks. He's always walking around with pocket bacon and once created a bomb using a whole roasted pig.😂

I can’t think of a better subclass for the Izzet League of Ravnica.
In fact, All artificer subclasses are perfect for this Guild.
I added the Artillerist Artificer to a Storm Herald Barbarian Tortle and it was AWESOME!!!! The fact that I got to add my Con Mod to my base 17AC, I was already rocking with some amazing AC that no one could touch me, and if they ever did, I could cheese them with Shield to make it a miss.
But I would ABUSE the cannon when fighting up close~!!!! I flavored it to which it was riding on my back, over my shoulder like a Blastoise to fire off the blasts till I got up close and personal. Then swap it for the Flamethrower for all the extra damage as I rage and destroy them with my Maul.
But the Protector was truly amazing cause of the d8+INT Temp HP. At max, I'd have 11, but while raging that was practically 22, meaning I would be needing a lot of hits or getting some major damage on their hits to break that, only for it to return the next Bonus Action~. DM had to have the foes actually attack the cannon, or try to, before they got to me. And I made sure to make that *VERY* hard for them to do so
Classes and subclasses like these make me wander if there is any way to replicate them through multiclass combinations

Great to see you post again, glad I found your vids. The first I watched was eldritch knight.
Looking at this class and what you're capable of crafting/upgrading, I immediately think of the rooftop shootout scene from 'The Naked Gun 2 1/2', where the gag of that set piece is the character Det. Nordberg turned his Desert Eagle into a M60 to a mounted turret to an artillery cannon in a matter of seconds.
Quick suggestion for anyone , I had a character who’s eldritch canon was a bunch of tattoos he had that turn into fire spirit when they leave him , reflavouring is really fun with artificer

My artillerist is a bio-tinker who crafts items out of living seafood. Every contraption is some kind of fish or other sea creature with various modifications.

My fav artificer class. Have an tiefling artillerist Artificer/Clockwork soul sorcerer. She does work with her turret. I wish protector leveled up to 2d8 temp hp though at 9th when the other forms do.

@@tom23421 the lvl 9 feature only includes the damage on the turrets, not the healing.
Every eldritch cannon you create is more destructive:
-The cannon’s damage rolls all increase by 1d8.
-As an action, you can command the cannon to detonate if you are within 60 feet of it. Doing so destroys the cannon and forces each creature within 20 feet of it to make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 3d8 force damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one.
1:22 for me it’s the woe strider. I ran into it last weekend and my dm said “That’s where we leave off the campaign today!”
Level 5. Catapult 9 oil vials in a mesh bag. Oil be free from alchemist jug. With plus 1d8. Step 2.. boom. extra burn damage. Bag of Flour also works..
Alt. Catapult a net or poison for restrained/incapacitated, then force damage.
3 levels in rogue assassin and its all max damage crits

My problem with artificer is the fact that people cannot imagine it as anything else other than a steampunk mad scientist. It just gets exacerbating after a while because people are always trying draw inspiration from steampunk when they could draw inspiration from more High fantasy like a blacksmith forges magical items, a painter who mixes magic into his paint to give it different effects, or any form of Craftsman who carves runes into their crafts to give them life.
Or a bio-tinker who uses magic to shape biological organisms into magical contraptions. What if the Cloak of the Manta Ray was a literal manta ray?
So my artificer is special since he is basically an archmage of the Mars mechanicum from WH40K
Some of the most fun I’ve had has been as one of these. Was playing with a warlock with both of us with spellsniper so from just an insane range the enemy could only move like 5ft toward us by the end of our turns. Then when we were inside we had to get creative and dm let me make holy water bombs with holy water and Magnesium, was nice little thing to use against the demons we were fighting

I'm playing a bladesinger/artillest it's fun, fun fact you an bladesing with a gun. Took all purpose tool to get Eldridge blast, with extra attack lovely
If you take one lvl in wizard you can take the find familiar spell. Now get a flying familiar and attach the small version of your canon to familiar, instant air support.
Or you could take magic initiate for the same effect, drone warfare.
You could also use your homunculus because it has a 20 ft flying speed

Always love it, though if I had one complaint, it would be the lack of turret variety. You only get three types, and I can't see good tradeoffs for not making them mobile and portable.
Artificer is my favorite class! Still haven’t found a great build for the Alchemist yet though….

my character is a artificer, she’s half gnome half tiefling.. who has a habit of causing chaos 💥
I am a player with an elf (don't remember which kind) rogue, a warforge paladin, me as a mix fighter/undead warlock warforge and two artillerist (one tabaxi, and the other elf).
I think the one thing that save the dm is that I pull my punch (except if it's dramatic that I don't), and that the two artillerist are new players, so they forget a bunch of their abillity/spells.
Nothing smells better than artillery shells in the morning.

id LOVE for ya to make a homebrew either class or subclass for the gunslinger called 'The Arsenal' being not an artificer per say or hell, maybe acutally being an artificer whos special ability is that they have made THEMSELVES into a bag of holding and as you go up in levels, you can basically make yourself into a literal walking arsenal of guns and armor to swap out as the need arises pulling out a fucking western gatling gun one second before the next instead having a fucking cannon rocket launcher that makes the wizards fireball look wimpy and like a complete joke the next before pulling out a shotgun to blast away whoever survived the blast with the same force i use to deal with spiders i find in my bathroom XD

I like artificer but if you get even an ounce of free time to make bigger guns and nicer armor, you can out class any creature you can see at range. So buy a looking glass and invest in find familiar, see if you cant also get cartograghy/navigation proficiency.
I find that during play, my actual level doesnt matter, only my dm's patience.

the best argument for allowing firearms in the setting is that gun powder (10th century) predates rapiers (15th century) by almost 500 years,
also in a setting with alchemists you can not tell me that one did not accidentally make a propellent and that another person figured out how to weaponize it and ... and .. etc etc . just my two f's

just want to point out.. none of an artillerist's abilites require gunpowder, or an actual gun. you could flare your arcane casting focus to be gun or crossbow shaped, and you still have a gun slinger without actually needing to implement firearms. It's d&d. It's powered by imagination and descriptive speech

Like I always tell people that say "Artificer doesn't fit the tone" call it an Enchanter and flavor any tech as monster taming and you are done. Had a Battlesmith that had a pet "iron elemental" and was a spellbow.
Also you can always be the first artificer in the world
