    These boots have been one of my Path of Exile white whales, and a new league is on the horizon, so this video was extremely well timed. For your notes, I also saw someone using the debuffs to their advantage with Olroth's Resolve, inverting the flask's downsides with the Diluting Touch debuff to get juiced up Ward. It's pretty nifty, so I thought I'd mention it here.

      This is a good idea if it can tolerate the reduced flask charges gained. Between that, minimum action speed and life on hit / instant leech, the only touch you really have to worry about is the increased damage taken

      @@Surgeon_General If you manage to gain enough Ward, the need for instant recovery is reduced significantly. There's also another way to ignore you life pool almost completely: Dissolution of the Flesh. Combining it with Ward and Petrified Blood and Eternal Youth let's you basically ignore all the downsides from hits and only larger hits and DoT's would have any real effect on your life or recovering it. It'd let you use your full life pool as if it was buffed by Petrified blood, you get MORE maximum life and Eternal Youth let's you use lifetap to ignore mana recovery completely as it can't ever be turned off while using the jewel.
      But speaking of DoTs, this version is heavily screwed over by them and I haven't been able to figure out a way around them, besides small help from Lethe Shade. If someone can figure out a way to ignore dots as much as possible, I believe it's possible to make a build with full madness stacks.
      - Paralyzing Touch: Marauder for Unstoppable or Shadow for One Step Ahead to ignore action speed reduction.
      - Diluting Touch: Downside is a positive with Olroth's Resolve, if you can manage the uptime.
      - Wasting Touch: Dissolution of the Flesh let's you ignore most recovery in general, since you don't technically need any life with it, just a bit hard to build around.
      - Eroding Touch: This is the hard one, but with all of the things listed earlier, damage mitigation won't be as much of an issue and can partially be mitigated with any sources of "reduced damage taken." Only really dangerous thing left, as said earlier, would be DoTs.
      Another thing you could do is stack fortify effect, but only with the worst boots of the three, since the higher Fortification you have, the larger it's less multiplier is, mitigating a larger portion of the increased damage taken. It's not worth it though IMO, with all possible fortification you can have (non-legacy gear) the best you can do with every Fortification buff active is 77% less damage taken. Compared to not having the boots with having the boots at full debuff stacks (and no other reduced/increased damage taken sources) the less multipliers would effectively be 62% vs 63,2% less damage taken from hits, with the difference getting worse the less fortification boosters you have active.

      @@MigranBTW there is the mastery: damaging ailments cannot be inflicted on you while you already have one, so if you could get unaffected by bleed/ignite/poison, and perma self inflict that. wouldent that fix issues?

      The best way to deal with dot in the game is tainted pact in my opinion.
      CWDT+beacon of madness+tainted pact+ward stacking poison build maby?
      but a huge problem is everyone knows maintain 100% up time of Olroth's Resolve is a huge pain in the ass. imagine doing so with out Ascendant or Pathfinder ascendancy and 90% reduced flask charge gain.

      @@user-ig7qn4uw2h You have reduced Life and Energy Shield Recovery Rate. This debuff is removed when you stop being Delirious. -tainted pact wont give much regen, gonna be alot of investment

    One way to play is to simply accept the debuffs and build around them. I've seen a tornado shot poison build that uses a single olroth's resolve to completely bypass diluting touch and turn it into an upside, while using trickster to ignore paralysing touch. That only leaves eroding and wasting touch. Wasting can be offset with good life gain on hit and eroding is bad, but manageable when olroth's makes all damage you take be reduced by flat 1500.

    worth adding that instead of fiddling with having a stat on your weapon or specific gem in the boots, you can weapon swap an actum which sets your intelligence to 0

    Excellent video the quality and presentation are just perfect! I live for content like this especially when new league is around the corner this is all I need getting ready for patch notes
    One precision about the "weapon swap" builds and people being more "tolerant" to play them, the difference is that the discharge build is essentially a 2-button build like you'd play Detonate Dead or Blade Blast, just pressing the buttons after the other in a very simple rotation with your main skill
    Where this method is still clunky at least in a mapping scenario, requiring to still pay attention to your main skill and targeting, while also having to track the duration of the madness, stop your main rotation, swap twice, re-enable the Madness buff and repeat

    really excellent video, insanely well presented. I think there is some nuance between Ralakesh's and Beacon, since Ralakesh's enables a tolerable 1-2 damage playstyle, whereas Beacon is a buff that can be annoying to use, like a Blessing etc.

    very good argumentation/presentation. these boots look best during the Atlas completion stage, or between levels 70-90, when a character needs access to mob-clearing power and is likely not threatened by most alch-and-go maps and can afford to let a few stacks of Eroding Touch build before swap cleansing.

    My first ever level 100 was a Poison Vortex character using this tech in Kalandra league. Left click Vortex + Plague Bearer as an Occultist popping full screens is the most satisfying build I've played to date.

    Sorry, your chance to cleanse debuffs chart is slightly wrong.
    Because the debuffs are applied every second, this means that debuffs expiring in 4.1s or 4.9s (for exemple), may be cleansed with the same probability as they need the same amount of consecutive dry rolls. There is also a tiny mistake that offsets your curve to the left by one game tick, as in game it is not possible the cleanse and gain the same debuff in the same server tick.
    In reality, the graph should look like a straircase with gradually wider steps, as the amount of expiry rate needed to reduce the duration by 1s increases.
    Notable thresholds are: 234% for sub 6 seconds, 302% for 5 seconds, and 403% for 4 seconds, 571% for sub 3 seconds debuffs.
    Because this calculation was wrong, the "average amount of debuffs" chart is also wrong (it should look like a straircase, descending, with gradually wider steps above your curve). Expiry rate still makes a tiny difference to the average stacks here too, but it's negligible and the math is very complex (the steps would have an extremely slight downward trend, linearly).
    Anyways. Thank you for this video, I was planning on using these boots for poison ek pf in ancestors, and ended up just converting to chaos until I could afford original sin. Maybe with a bit more thought, I ahould have used these!

    The biggest loophole though is to use off-meta gear that people have forgotten about ;-) Demand and supply always sets the price, unless there is a surplus of the item.

    I actually tried that on a trickster with the poison variant, obliteration, crest of desire w/ plague bearer in it and three occultist explode charms. The idea is to easily apply poison with Blade Vortex, gaining some life leech with petrified blood and slightly less than 50% of my HP reserved and ES leech and stack up plague bearer as quick as possible. Then, when Plague Bearer is fully loaded, just click it and run through the map while everything explodes. However, the weapon swap becomes quite difficult to play around, because it turns off all my auras.
    I did the tech, some other person in this comment section recommended: I put an 'actum' in the weapon swap, which will automatically deactivate glorious madness because I have no int.
    However, my Auras are in the Boots and in a pair of Asenath's Gloves, so swapping to actum deactivates all my auras which basically makes the whole thing unusable unfortunately.
    I will keep puzzling around, if I can find a way to reduce my aura setup, put on different gloves with no int requirement, put other gems in my boots than Auras and than maybe everything works together.
    Anyhow, thanks for the great video, I highly enjoyed it and rewatched multiple times to gather inspiration for this very niche experimental interaction :D
    Hope I can find a way to fix my build since I already really enjoyed fiddling around in PoB, but actually trying it ingame and failing now frustrated me a bit xD but hey, I won't give up so easily!
    btw if someone's interested, for the plague bearer stuff I was highly inspired by a video from Aer0, he did a build guide for an Occultist in 3.22 with Plague Bearer as the 'main' clearing skill.

    I used the explode variant on my Trickster early league as they are insane clear speed with the right setup. Only 2 of the downsides affect trickster so theyre not as dangerous (plenty of deaths still, got stuck around lvl95)

    You missed two, maybe three more noteworthy mentions about debuff duration reduction.
    1. Divergent temporal rift, up to 35% (using certain +% quality effects) for a 10% reservation.
    2. Phantasmal haste, another 10% or so if you use a gem.
    3. Haste Watcher's eye. 15%~
    4. Haste small cluster notable. 10%.
    With these, and your suggestions, a hefty 370% duration reduction. If one were truly mad, they'd spam the 10% notable till 400%.
    This may seem a massive investment... But, remember you're also gaining near immunity to:
    Bleed
    CB (only at the 300%+ mark)
    Poison
    Hinder/maim/taunt
    Petrify
    Elemental ailments sans freeze, which we all know immunity is required.
    Curses/marks/hexes
    Exposure
    Your resistance to the above will be so stark you can literally pretend they don't exist.
    It also enables the possibility of briefly bouncing effects onto yourself, anywhere you can find benefit from this, this build could abuse heavily.

    You could do the same with Kaom's Spirit to gain a large amount of life regeneration when affected by DoT or to regen a large hit taken.

    Fairly certain the second method is not intended, and with Discharge abusing weapon swap coding being wonky being so popular I'd imagine GGG is going to fix weapon swap related stuff next patch.

    Very nice video ! Quick question : can't trickster bypass 2 out of four debuffs ? With Polymath it can map easily (~10% life, ES, Mana on kill) and like you said One Step Ahead is for action speed. Since it's in the evasion area, stacking Evasion and chance to avoid damage can mitigate the more damage taken. Wind Dancer should help with one-shots. Flask-wise I have no idea though. I'm gonna make a build with those boots for sure ! Thanks for the heads up !

      A claw based build using the new leech nodes could also bypass recovery by getting up to 30% of life leech applied instantly, and 20% of ES as well. You could also use a Xirgils Crank and eternal youth along side wicked ward, where your life will start recharging as if it were ES and cannot be interrupted, with the madness giving you enough damage to compensate.

      yes. l played a poison claw build when trickster was first reworked and it felt great. back then onslaught flasks weren't affected by flask effect, but l think now the only flasks worth using are blood of the karui or olroth's if you have some ward.

    Stasis prison is incredibly rare, more than even a headhunter or mageblood. There is probably some build that can justify using stasis prison (the recoup is also really good, after all), but generally if you can afford stasis prison you can afford to play something else, making it an awkward item. If the rarity of it was significantly reduced (say, to Brass Dome levels), it could be an interesting choice. The maximum debuff expiration you can reasonably get without stasis prison is 40(tree) + 100(timepiece) + 20(harbinger belt) + 20(watcher's eye) + whatever % found on rare items I'm blanking on.

    what skills are most beneficial from elemental conflux? Essentially with this boot option you can consider yourself an elementalist, but being a different class with their benefits.

    one question , do they affect damage from totems ? for exmaple those ailment boots + lets say shockwave totem, im not sure if they would benefit from those confluxes, but that shock would be great multiplier for totems, chill defensive and would have those "dmg" stats on boots which you dont ussualy have ( except maybe onslaught) and that would kinda relieve pressure form you as player to do weapon swap without much of downsides like being hit while swaping and also clicking madness would be so much pain since one is totem build

    I think deadeyes' improved tailwind can also counterbalance reduced action speed, am i wrong?
    That said there seems to be a video per league on these boots but they never become meta. During crucible I've seen a vid by dandyjandon about a tshot poison build, earlier a wardloop build. They both have in common that reduced flask effect is beneficial to olroth's resolve, if you can compensate for the charges lost. Fear not, because since flasks are now worthless you can use the traitor with 4 empty slots, your ward is higher if you let the debuff stack up before running the map increased damage taken is less of a problem. Something something scion deadeye pathfinder bloodnotch loop boom boom

      Deadeye Tailwind can get up to 20% action speed at max Gathering Wind stacks, so it counteracts at most 3 1/3 paralyzing touches. It would work, but not quite as well as Jugg/Trickster.
      The Olroths Resolve idea is really clever though

    And they could make a replica beacon of madness, based around the fugitive boots, why not.

      If I had a unique design, I’d make a replica version with:
      - Your physical spell damage inflicts bleed while affected by Glorious Madness
      - 20% of leech is instant while affected by Glorious Madness

    Is it possible to ignite AND poison with one hit? (considering that we deal fire damage without conversion) How stregth of such a poison would be calculated? And what about scaling?

      You could ignite and poison on the same hit using (a) a fire skill with 100% chance to ignite and the chaos version of the boots or (b) a phys/chaos skill with 100% chance to poison and the elemental version of the boots
      The best way to scale %damage would be modifiers of the base damage type; it would also scale the poisons/ignites of the off-damage type.
      That being said, it’s normally hard to simultaneously get strong poisons and ignites because poison benefits from stacking many instances quickly whereas ignite is capped at one. For poison, you typically scale application rate and for ignite you scale base damage.

      Take elementals with always ignite on hit
      Take the body armour that says "always poison if enemy is cursed"
      Have fun
      More expensive version is with the ring that convert everything into chaos damage (and you can use the ring that does chaos damage instead of fire dmg with ignite)

    hm i think the reason because ppl were willing to do it with the discharge build is u dont have anything to do between the discharge cooldown and the build is literally one button.
    imagine playing a normal build and doing that swap stuff every 5-6 sec, you would literally "lose you mind and go full madness"
    but yeah i could imagine this on a 1hp boss 1shot build.

    With Temporal Rift giving 1% reduced ailment per quality and at least 20% reduced ailment duration from Barkskin, I feel like we're getting closer to these boots being feasible in 3.23!

      If explosion chances have the same (1) damage type and (2) percentage of corpse life as base damage, their chances stack. In this case, yes, that works

    Are Molten Strike and Lightning Strike the best users for the poison enabling Beacon of Madness variant? Thinking of maybe running it as an mid endgame build before investing more.

      For attack skills, yes those are the really good ones in my opinion. Seems like attacks will have access to "all damage can poison" from the league mechanic so verify that tinctures aren't a better option if you want to play strike. The boots allow poison with some weird spells which tinctures won't affect though.

      @@MESIRlX For the poison version of the boots, spells with a large number of hits quickly will be best. EoW, Rolling Magma, and Blazing Salvo come to mind

    From everything you said, it makes the most sense to use a combination of weapon swap, ascendency, and duration to turn it into like an every 30 swap

      IMO, you’re better off doing either the swap or the reduced duration, but not both. Whichever way you go, you would want to pick an ascendancy that helps offset the downsides.
      The question is do you want to spend three equipment slots and a dozen passive points to automate the cleansing or do you want to have to press three buttons every six to ten seconds

    Those debuffs are permanent as long as buffs working. So my guess is debuffs expire %something faster modifiers will be useless right?

    I like that you came up with the weapon swap tech.
    To share my experience with the debuff faster to have it permanently on, I tried 320% faster debuff expiration during scourge league. In reality, the situation does not go as you predicited. Most of the time, you will be stuck with 1 or 2 debuff being at 10stacks while other 2~3 debuffs getting cleansed out pretty fast. Since the debuff is just intolerable at 10 stacks, it was pretty bad. If you ever have intent to use it with permanent ON, then expect to have at least 400% faster.

    Its been a long day so my brain is unable to do the math myself but it is screaming that the graphs for avg stacks on cleanse shouldn't be a smooth curve but stepped for every second of duration, no?
    Since its applying a stack only on the second mark, there should be thresholds of 'debuffs expire faster' where you see a huge benefit instead of a steady progression.
    Like, 234% DEF is the same as 300% DEF, but 301% DEF should reduce the duration of a stack to

      The process is based on a 1/4 chance to get any given debuff. Since that’s probabilstic, the calculations and graphs are for “expected values” not directly for numbers of stacks. On any given cycle, you MIGHT stack up to 7 or you could cleanse after only 2, but on AVERAGE you will get up to the number shown on the chart. Since it’s an average, it’s not discrete

      This could be a good idea; have you tested that weapon swapping doesn’t break the channel? If it does, you just hold down your main skill button and then only have to focus on the weapon swap tech.

    Those boots can probably be combined with self poison build and ward stacking. Probably the most unique combination in the game. I'm still not sure about ward, because penalty on charges gained seems too bad. However self poison completely mitigates recovery debuff, gives a ton of phys reduction when paired with strength of blood. Will definitely try it out in the upcoming league.

      Gems in the boots modify the “Embrace Madness” skill, not the touched debuffs that it applies.
      Embrace madness itself does not have a duration so duration gems don’t do anything. The touched debuffs are not affected by linked duration gems.

      yeah but you don't need to swap for every single attack like Discharge, just when the debuffs are getting too spicy, so it may end up being a similar or even lower number of total swaps. Just double tap every few seconds

    The only issue I see about "build enabling" features of this item is that it is also build limiting, as it requires heavy investments into debuff duration reduction or debuff mitigation, for example instead of a Stasis Prison and Warped Timepiece you could have another 100d rare chest (stsis prosion is really expensive and is mandatory) AND a +2 amulet with dot multi, crit multi and other things.
    About the conflux variant, compared to how clunky it is to build around it, it is VERY hard to abuse all the upsides it hard enough that it matters. Mainly because there are other ways to get freeze only, chill only, etc.
    For example, avatar of fire+maxing ignite chance seems way less clunky to set up and it is a good substitute for igniting conflux (You'd have to convert the other half of the dmg to fire via cold to fire support for example).
    The elementalist ascendancy's power also lies in the fact that their only cost is 2 ascendancy points. Why bother going becaon of madness when you can just go elementalist?
    Overall, I think the cons outweigh the pros due to easily accessible alternatives. Moreover I do not see an edge case in fully abusing any of the boots. immediately the first thing comes to mind is to be an occultist with profane bloom and 10% explody from clusters, which reults in 100% explody which all poision, guaranteeing pack clear with the only investment being AOE so you can focus on single target damage. (I'm thinking ball lightning poison for example, with slower projectiles, perhaps a widowhail+craghead to stunlock and some other way of scaling poison). But all this seems a bit bad for me still;
    i am aware that the above idas are probably arent the best thing but until some people come up with an ultra high abuse case my verdict on this item will be "too high investment cost for not that much upside"

      You make plenty of good points. I think the reality of the “debuffs expire faster” version is that it’s not even close to worth the investment. I include it in the video because someone has to do the math to demonstrate that and it fits the theme of the channel 😁
      If people use the boots they’ll almost certainly go the weapon swap route.
      Regarding Elementalist ascendancy, Avatar of Fire is pretty weak for use with non-fire skills because you typically don’t benefit from the more damage; you’re just using it to “enable” the ignite. Using Beacons lets you do something like ignite Reap on Gladiator where you can scale BOTH the phys dot and the ignite dot. There’s still a place for the elementalist, but you can do some out-of-the-box things with the boots.

      @@Surgeon_General I was under the impression that you would need the debuff reduction part just so you dont have to weapon swap every 2 seconds so you wouldneed to use it in conjunction with the weapon swap tech so you only need to swap like every 10s?
      Also , cant you just go reap with elementalist and scale both DOTs travelling down the tree? I would do THAT instead of having to set up a gladiator with beacon of madness .. probably would end up doing more damage as well since I dont have to invest in any debuff duration, and i get 4 more gem slots since I dont need the gem swap clunk in the boots.
      moreover i can use maven boots for 50% schorch and explody instead of beacon.
      Honestly I think the real power of the item is to use all 3 techniques along with
      - being trickster so the downside of action speed is negated
      - investing in instant recovery so you arent affected by recovery rate
      - just give up using flasks for anything
      - just get more EHP so more damage taken is less of an issue
      I think the best item to combo with it is expeditions end, you arent goin to feel the increased damage taken if you dont take any damage since everything is frozen anyway :D
      ironically the fortify boots I can see being used because of the increased fortify effect somewhat negating the increased damage taken debuff.
      Life gain on hit along with some instant leech on a cyclone jugg seems good enough to me for example.
      Alnternatively you could just go champion with kaoms roots

      @@peterkatulin8399if you’re doing weapon swap, no need for the duration reduction. The stacks build at the same rate no matter what; the duration tech is a method to auto-cleanse them without disabling madness and the weapon swap tech is a method to manually cleanse them with no cooldown.

      If the base damage type of the hit that created the poison is cold, “more” multipliers to BOTH cold and chaos will scale the poison. You can pretty easily verify in PoB (and I did for the video). It works the same as, for example, cold ignite builds

    The poison version is so powerful, but pressing buttons is a real tax that always adds up. Getting ele poison enables so much build diversity it is game changer. Any build that could afford original sin though for poison can easily hit dot cap with any skill they choose. It's kind of a waste to use original sin for dot as you can do billions of hit damage instead. These boots are a budget original sin with extra steps, and I'll wait and see if any brave exiles go for it.

    Thanks to this video and the Ralakesh swap tech, I imagine GGG would eventually nerf the CD to start at 9sec or fix it at 9sec, period :P
    This made me consider creating a new build for league start with one of those boots, seriously... swapping every now and then is not a big deal for the insane value.
    edit: I think I would prefer methods such as Trickster or Juggernaut that can offset the downsides a lot, or play the boots on builds that are set to not require the stats nerfed by Madness as much (circumventing them for the most part).
    edit 2: Currently thinking of ways to avoid downsides altogether... using instant life/ES gains to circumvent the "Recovery Rate" debuff, using min. action speed or a build relying on instantanous skills to circumvent the "- action speed", using a tanky build or highly evasive build and playstyle to avoid "inc. dmg taken", speccing into flask nodes on the tree to offset "- flask charge gained" and "-flask effect".
