    I never used vixen's and just went Inquisitor for battlemage and 75% more cast speed with generic reduced duration from rings, amulets, and the tree. This also allows for cooldown scaling to increase DPS as the 3 charges at .15s recharge get expended very quickly. Impending doom 370 effectiveness scales any added lightning very effectively.

    I will miss Impending Doom so much! It has been my favorite build to transition to from my league starter ever since it popped up :c

      Oh man....I've been studying Impending Doom Occultist builds and tech....am I to believe now that, as of now, 3.24, it is not worth building around?

      @@SHertzog-e6d I actually can't 100% tell you since I haven't played it properly yet.
      Additionally, the -30% MS from Ralakesh hurts Occultist quite a bit, unless you have Mageblood gear. The AoE nerfs are also really, really noticeable - I get maybe 2-3 overlaps with Woke Cascade.
      Just did a random Twisted I had lying around and... my TotA character did not feel good at all.
      I know that some people are playing Archmage Impending Doom as I think Ignite, but that does not really appeal to me.
      Personally, I would rather play a Blade Blast of Unloading again instead of ID. Similar style of build, but actually feels good to play.

    I really appreciate your video, I loved playing Impending Doom in 3.22, it was by far my best build. Sadly, it would appear that the gem changes now also remove this alternate method, at least until we see what will actually be available on alternate versions of Impending Doom Support.
    Here is hoping that GGG decided to support this build by including viability somewhere in the alternate versions of Impending Doom Support and/or Spell Cascade. I hope you will update your video once this information becomes available.
    I wish more video game videos were this well organized and information dense!

      Yes, this is true; most people want to apply ID with Temp Chains though because of the Balance of Terror cooldown recovery.

      Fair criticism, thanks for the feedback. I normally have a more math-focused approach which doesn't lend itself to flashy B-roll so might have just goofed the pacing on this one.

      @@Surgeon_GeneralI think just for people that haven’t seen the interaction in real time at all, even just seeing it once in practice would help give some context/increase people’s interest in the topic if it’s something they might enjoy. I ended up going and watching some gameplay after the video anyway just because I don’t even know what impending doom looks like tbh. Doesn’t have to be much, I’m saying even just a 5 second clip of the full sequence hitting a small pack.

    There's a pretty easy way of making this work that doesn't require any special or expensive unique items. Fated End. I've made a very cheap PoB for it that could be thrown together quite easily. The only major hurdle I'm running into is the league start scenario. I thought this could save the build from being dead as a league start build, but Fated End doesn't appear on the market in any significant quantity until after the first week. Not any roll will do either. Despite the item being common it's only found in Heist, and you have to get a very low roll (~180) for it to work. Feels like it's so close to being league start viable, but just barely missed the mark. A shame really.
    Edit: It's even worse when you consider that triggering doomblast was never even the issue. The main issue was hitting the trigger breakpoints. Without the staggered casts of spell cascade this will be functionally impossible. It would be similar to trying to league-start a cast on crit build. Possible, but not advisable. I suspect we will still see high investment versions of the build have some success but the low investment version of the build has effectively been deleted from the game. Perhaps it was too strong for the investment. I might not agree with it, but GGG seems to think so.

      Self farming the ring is very easy. I usually see 5 or more of them per day running enchanted armaments wings.

    A while back I built a duration-based Doom blaster that used Nightgrip instead of Vixen's (Anomalous, Kulemak, a Timeclasp, etc). Felbog Fang is enabled building around expiration, a rare use case for that amulet I suggest considering.
    Probably plenty viable without cascade. Pathfinder's blue flask bonus was increased since I played: blue iron flask size being a key part of generating enough ward to pour flat chaos into ID's high damage effectiveness.

      It might work, but getting a lot of iron flask effect / uptime was important to boost the ward numbers which might be tricky on any other class.
      Maybe get pops on a Charm? :)

    Spell cascade not only stopped enabling the overlap on target but has weird gaps in coverage. You probably will not want to play with spell cascade support in the main link anymore so it will not be doubling your single target proc rate.
    But there are other options. You can remove curse by using curse on hit, for example on Herald of Thunder or BV. Of course you are going to have weaker and fewer curses then, so this is levelling only. If you want more curses use Vixen's with spell cascade, the overlap with the second, delayed, cast from Vixen's happen reliable without need for repeated casts due to larger AoE of the curse without cascade. And the endgame version as you noted here would use Cane of Kulemak and alt quality 21/23 Impending Doom, as well as perfectly rolled Warped Timepiece. 15% MS 25% cast speed and some debuff protection are quite good stats, especially with +1 not affecting the level of Impending Doom. Another endgame version would use Shako.

    You can get additional reduced skill effect duration from Timeclasp ring and Warped Timepiece necklace.
    I did some testing on my critical doom blast power charge stacker. Dialla's with a 20/20 Anomalous Impending doom brought my curse duration to 0.44 seconds. With a Magebane impossible escape I can get an extra -5% duration, leaving my curses with no duration. This allows doom blast to trigger on each cast, and with awakened spell cascade, you still have the same clear during maps.
    I did lose a lot of tooltip damage per hit. From 1.1mil to 450k, but that's still more than enough for general mapping, which is what the build does best.
    Long story short, if you enjoy the build, you can still play it. But it's not a viable league starter due to anomalous impending doom and Diallas. As a second toon, it's not great either, the survivability and speed just isn't as great as a lot of other builds.
    Sad that my favorite build is getting 'fixed'

    I would not play ID on dialla's, the main point of the build was that while it was requiring you to stand still and rightclick to death you could wear the generic loreweave or lightning coil bundle of items which make you extra chonky

    Well rolled Timeclasp rings can be a substitute for using the Cane of kulemac if the player wants to prioritize defenses (thinking about full taken as ele conversion pathfinders), it also gives good source of cast speed and recoup.
    It still requires investment in the reduced duration node, outside of using a perfectly rolled Warped Timepiece aswell, which is excessive gear pressure.

      I haven't tested thoroughly, but my understanding is that increased AoE both increases the size of the zones as well as shifting their centers so the change to the overlap is negligible.

    for 0 duration ID using quality, I feel like cane's 15% quality is good but not mandatory. If you fracture the catarina mod on a good base (eclipse scepter, most likely), you can still craft haku's 8% quality prefix.
    You could end up with a weapon with 16% gem quality, +2 supports, 150% increased damage, 49% increased cast speed, 100% crit chance and 45% crit multi
    It would cost around 60 divs to craft (so not that cheap), but imo would be very very nice.

    Nice video, but I would add few things.
    I think you quickly mentioned it. If player had enough area effect, the first and third ring was overlapping in the middle, creating sector we called middle fish eye. Then it was 2 explosions on the first cast and 3 explosions on every other cast. Then spell cascade gem was worth 2,07x damage or "107% more damage". But for a lot of players without area effect, spell cascade is only worth of 38% more damage, because the gem itself does 31% less damage.
    It is important to mention main problem with vixens. Vixens curses are casted before your casted curse (your six link). To solve this problem, we socket spell cascade into vixens. By that, second cast of the vixens is postponed. Sadly the same thing couldnt be done with spell echo. Spell cascade in the main six link was never needed. It was there because it was convinient for the overlapses. But it could be replaced.
    Impending doom is always 2 gems combo. You need a curse and support, so you can only add 4 additional supported gems. But all of it default stats are superior. It has fast casting speed, very high base damage, very high added damage efficiency and large area effect. Being said, I think the gem is still good. The good thing is the gem is simple. It is not very scalable, but simply strong without any additional items. This makes it candidate for league starters.
    There are other ways to instantly blow up impending doom. One is going 1 fewer curse (ring). Second is going for apply curse on hit on (also ring). I think both options are kinda cheap. Spell cascade on two overlaps gives you 2*0,69=1,38x more damage. This can be replaced with different support gem.
    We can look back into history why impending doom became viable build. First, curses were reworked and do not have "Doom" anymore. Second, bosses are no longer resilient to curses. Third, impending doom was buffed. And fourth, spell cascade was added and combo was discovered with vixens. I think the biggest question here is: "will be vixens still usable with impending doom?".

      Spell Cascade does not support Doom Blast so the Less damage & AoE does not affect it.

      Gameplay style is easy, one click. But build wise it is one of the most complex builds. I wouldnt recommend it for anyone who doesnt want to deal with POB much.

    The alt quality effect on Impending Doom only works on the linked curse, right? So I don't shoot myself in the foot by not being able to apply the Vixen curses to debuff dangerous enemies.

    Just messaging here to report that the build exists just fine this league. There APPEARS to be a point where the cascades do not stretch outward anymore. My ID crit Occ has 120% aoe total and I'm overlapping the exact same as ever with the build. I have two aoe charms per power charge, 10 charges only so far. But yes, the build is alive.

    What if I want to use the Forbidden Shako helmet to get Lv35 Impending Doom? Is there any way to reduse the duration low enough?

      2x Timeclasp (20% each, perfect rolls) + Warped Timepiece (20% perfect roll) + Window of Opportunity skill wheel (25%) = 85% reduced duration
      Less Duration Support (50%) + Duration Mastery (10%) = 60% less duration
      Temporal chains level 1 base duration is 5 seconds: 5 sec * (1-0.85) * (1-0.6) = 0.3sec
      It's doable, but it's not very good and will feel slow. Not worth the investment in uniques and support gems IMO

    I didn't quite understand what the real change on spell cascade was. Is the area that overlaps different in 3.23 ?
    And does this only affect impending doom or also other builds that use spell cascade ?

      The change to spell cascade was its interaction with gems that received flat increases to radius with gem level. The most notable example is curses. The “old” spell cascade did not change the center of the zones as the gem level increased so you would get more overlap than intended. The “new” spell cascade fixes this so AoE modifiers both scale the size of the spell cascade zones as well as their relative positions. The overlaps will be noticeably different

      This. I just checked pob and it's actually pretty easy to gain curse effectiveness through-out the tree, some clusters and maybe even another uniques. Technically it's even possible to do some pretty weird stuff with might of the meek jewel and gain some. If you take one step further gem quality to certain curses also seems to give it? The best thing is, it's not a wasted stat to invest in, since it benefits the other curses as well. Only downside for the build is that you now need to run the other curses as auras.

      Only defensive curses would need to be ran as an aura as you should be constantly casting anyway. You can even balance it with clever use of sources of specified curse effect. e.g. Temp chains curse effect helmet enchant. This would guarantee a minimum of 1 second duration of all curses except the one used for impending doom. @@janne6657

    I know that the overlapping is a strong mechanic, but could you not just forgo spell cascade in favor of defenses, gem levels (+1 all chaos wand/amulet) or cast speed to reach an even middleground?

      Cast speed is a fine approach; I've played a build with it that uses Spell Echo to cap application at the Doom Blast cooldown rate. You can't use gem levels to scale damage though; gem levels almost always specify "level of skill gems" - Impending Doom is a support, so it does not benefit.

    If you do this then don't you lose the effects of the curses? That's a huge % of your damage/defense

      You only lose the effectiveness of the curse that is applying Doom Blast. You can still use other curses; the reduced duration only applies to curses linked to Impending Doom.

      Most of the skill duration reduction is for a specific curse gem though, so any additional curses would still be working just fine.

    I don't care about this league, so I'll say it, you missed a huge one, you can get 16 % with a catarina item then bench craft with the haku 8%, this is likely to be better than cane.
    also like week one you could get a 8% for like a divine. there's a lot of ways to craft it to make it decent, and if you wanna get rich you can try to fracture the catarina mod to make an insane staff (though for a mirror tier you might want a bow, for the extra stats of the quiver, though staff is also good because of the staff passives.)
    my idea for an expensive poison version (do not copy this is just an idea of what is possible): get a catarina level/quality, get 2 prefix, craft a block, al hezmin exalt for poison, then prefix cannot be changed roll for dot multi or poison deal damage faster or a good roll of poison damage, multicraft and craft 8% qual and chaos dot multi. (if you have currency you could use locks to annul the multicraft and exalt something good)
    for crit, bow is probably the way to go, as you can get crit on both the bow and the quiver

    Alt quality gems gone in 3.23 unfortunately. Transfigured gems seem to be only skill gems as well.

    too much investment just to enable it. There's a reason why spell cascade variation is so much more popular because it just needs vixen to get going while making full use of its cooldown. The reduced duration variation needs at least 233% cast speed before being bottleneck by cooldown and spell echo just feels bad to play with. generic reduced duration also reduces QoL and poison variation needs more investment due to malevolence.

      Not consistently like it did before. You would have to aim AWAY from the enemy to line up overlaps and it's not reliable.

    Question. If just the spell cascade changes go through, no others, the build will technically function exactly as it is now, with just half the single target damage, right? It's just the overlap that is supposed to get demolished, the normal interaction of curses and vixen proccing is supposed to still work, right?
    Obviously that would feel terrible for someone who tried the build before, but even without overlap wouldn't there be enough damage to still call the build s tier, aspecially because of all of the pathfinder defence tech ? With the sanctum jewel and some investment it can still be like a 6mil + single target dps build, with tons of aoe and prolif, and basicly immortal.

      The complaint people had at the start of 3.22 is that Doom Blast wasn’t triggering on the first cast - they had to cast twice to actually proc damage. The changes are both a reduction in the single target damage plus some added “clunkiness” for mapping.
      To see what it will be like, you can check Crouching Tunas video from a few months ago titled something like “Impending Doom is Bugged”

    i have build a curse override immediately as doom was append. So i can say, cascade is not necessary. Just keep same stuff without cascade, anyway doom explode per single enemy but with 3 charges. So, for boos is anyway don't matter, for pack monsters also not. I don't understand. what is issue is. Curse overwrite is anyway work, just need to make sure apply curses lass than available. Yes this is not kind a single click explode is 2, for monsters which are not have any curses yet. But two click instead one, not a big deal to start kill. Just 2 for fresh pack, u can append instead cascade a support what is share curse after dead

    You talk with so much certanty that made me doubt myself, but for what I heard we don't get alt quality gems anymore. Even in standart they will exist, but the effects will roll back to the main quality.
    They said they would make versions of skill gems, not auras or heralds. No word on support gems. Sadly, supports that trigger another skill like impending doom and shockwave were not included in the patch notes, so we don't know If they will tweak the quality effects on those.

      Inc AoE scales both the radius of the circles as well as their spacing so the overlap region ends up being mostly unchanged; that’s basically what the fix to spell cascade was addressing.

      Probably not using reduced duration. Could switch to something using Fated End for a similar build type

    Man, i didnt know this was happening and I just got back into my SSF standard characters and spent about 80 hours over the last few weeks leveling and gearing an Impending Doom pathfinder. Damn, hopefully once 3.23 comes I can try to transition into one of these versions. If not, rip regrets as i transition to deadeye

    Spamming Vivid Valtures for profit likely wont be that good in 3.23 and mght even enter slight gambling territory (Assuming this changes heavily affect woke cascade price)

      Probably - put another way, Impending Doom pre-nerf was very powerful for very little investment.

    So long story short, it's still bricked. Requiring more investment is deal breaking, You might as well run the meta since by default you're already required to dump so many points to establish sufficient damage and defense. This game is becoming unplayable. It's just an arcade apm shooter with a ton of extra steps and grind.

      You dudes are so negative, this wasn’t a build guide. To me this is as a video on how to start the theory craft to work around the nerfs. I’m sure someone will find something similar if community makes videos similar to this

      ​@@TheOne23_There's no theory crafting done here, these are all things people realized before. People already knew of cane and dialla method. Cane just sucked cuz expensive to get all the good rolls and losing shield slot sucks ass. Dialla is also just shit overall.

      It's still a viable mapping build, it's just much more expensive to do and not league start viable.
      Sadly in the 3.23 state, it's too weak for a second toon, and too expensive for a first.

    Tried the build only once with about a 25ish divine budget. It's one of the worst feeling builds I've ever experienced in my life. From it's clear, bossing, damage, and defense... even if it was a 20c budget I don't think it's worth it. It's just bad.
    Meanwhile you can just go toxic rain with absolutely no budget outside of a quill rain and a 5l (bow or armour) and complete your entire atlas with ease.

      Have you tried crit version on Occultist using Sandstorm Visage? It just removes monsters from map in couple of clicks

      @@Lorrey377 Naw, I had played the Pathfinder(I think) Variant. The more popular one, this was either last league or 2 leagues ago. Hard to tell... since leagues went from 4 months to like 8 months now :I

      Lies! ID pathfinder (poison) is the best build p4p. Good clear speed, good bossing, can do wave 30simulacrum for like 10div-early league.
      I bet they nerf pathfinder next league though. Lol

      @@vajguy I miss old pathfinder.. back in 2.6 or so when flasks increased max res and there was no max to your max res... PF alone could get perma 101%+ max res, meaning elemental damage actually healed you... Especially when you with Queen of the Forest which had no ceiling on movement speed... could have a town movement speed of 3,000% easily... all the time, always up. You become SPEED!

      @@vajguy , well, they definitely may nerf it. But "the best"? I can disagree. 40+ mil shaper dps without any buildup, great movement speed, ~50k ehp and explosions are pretty hard to beat in under 100 div category. Not a 10 div build, yeah, but still better than pf. Also, "can do w30 simz" and "can RELIABLY do w30 simz" are quite different characteristics IMO.

      @@optiondezzo1513 “Less duration” multiplies with “reduced duration” so it doesn’t work how you think. 50% reduced and 50% less works out to:
      Duration = Base duration * (1-0.5) * 0.5
