That profile picture though hahaha
Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
Best instructional video yet guys
Cheers
Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.
Most informative, articulated and accessible fishing channel on the internet, could you guys do a tench video please? Both of your channels are fantastic and they both deserve more recognition/followers!!!
Brilliant starter tutorial, showing each part clearly!
Going out Thursday and I'm using this set up top work again chaps 👍👍
Good straight forward video. Thanks for putting it up.
Thanks again guys, your tutorials are always explained clearly & straight forward.
🎣😎🐟
You're welcome! Glad they're easy to follow and helpful! :)
Really great video that's answered many questions I've had about this type of fishing, thank you and tight lines! :)
Excellent tutorial lads. I'm heading to a pike comp next week and will try out this rig. Thanks a lot.
It worked. 14lb Pike, second place in the competition. Cheers lads 👍
Simple yet very effective this is exactly what I do when pike fishing. Well done mate
Thanks 👍
Great video, thanks for the tips!
🎣
caught a 25lb pike yesterday, thank you!
Great video guys. Neat trick with the spinning forceps. Many thanks. Ray
Thankyou guys i needed this
Great video, very clear and informative. I’m keen to go pike fishing, so no excuses now.
Cheers happy to hear that Greg. Go for it! Let me know how you do :)
Great video as usual. Clear, simple and short
Thank you Robert! :)
Defo gonna give this a try cheers lads for a great video
That is a great rig, I use a very similar myself, the only thing I would change on your rig is adding another plastic or rubber bead or even a piece of clear rubber tubing between the float and the weight that will save your float from banging in to the weight and damaging like you can see on the float used on this tutorial 4:40. Thanks and tight lines
Quick question. If the weight bead is 20g for a 24g floater, how do you take into account the weight of the bait so that the float doesn’t go under once you tie it on? Many thanks
Great video it really helped me loads because I want to catch my pb pike this winter
Amazing yet again!!!!
Ive been looking for a channel like this liked a subbed mate nice work
Absolutely brilliant, first class advice, well done 👍
Cheers Philip :)
Excellent video lads. Thanks alot
Carl great delivery as always
Thanks Ian :)
Nice tutorial, simple and effective thanks for posting.
Cheers! Thanks for watching ;)
Awesome, just what I needed 👍🏻
Cheers lads , thanks for the tips ill definitely be giving that forceps trick a go 👌
Almost at that time of year again for majority of fisheries.. October Pike season!
Any more tutorials for Pike rigs coming out soon? Maybe a circle hook rig.
Best thing I ever did was change from trebles to a single circle.
Tight lines guys!
Brilliant stuff mate , Thanks for posting !
You're welcome :) glad you enjoyed it!
Epic love your channel 😎🎣
This is fantastic. Thanks.
Same set up as me and Alex were using when I was lucky enough to take him to my favourite pike spot
Brilliant, I love how to vids...
Cheers!
Excellent well explained and demonstrated example. 👍🏻
Cheers this helped a lot as I want to do some pike fishing one day
Cheers lads 👌👌👌
Fantastic informative video. Well presented
Cheers boys I’ll be pike fishing this weekend then
Thanks for the tipps Video was verry helpfull thanks
A pike has always been a fish I've been wanting and going down onto the canal tonight with this rig wish me luck
Good luck!
Omg boys. Now I've dabbled in a bit of pike fishing over the years. Always made my own rigs but must say that trick with the forceps is a game changer. Nothing worse than pissing around with crimps on a cold day. Could probably do this with my pred gloves on. 👌
Another great video! I have always been a course fisherman, mainly after carp... But i have always wanted to try Pike and other predator fishing! Your videos make it easy to learn techniques and try other types of fishing! (P.S. Your audio was loads better on this one :D)
Great Video, i have pike fishesd fairly successfully for years using this exact method, i have always bought the trace rigs because i thought it would be a ballache to tie, this shows different :)
Thanks for watching Max! Good luck with your pike fishing!
Thank you Carl, planning on going dead baiting this weekend, on the river Great Eau; wish me luck!
Hope you had a good one!
Great video thank u
Nice helpful video.
Can I add one thing.
Please people if you are going to use this type rig and allow the float to drift on the wind until you end up with the bait static on the bottom, please use a up trace because once the weight touches down and you are effectively laying the bait on the bottom a pike picking the bait up will easily hit you main line as it strikes and cut you off leaving the bait and treble hooks in the pike.
Awesome, thanks fellas.
No problem :)
Thanx that was very helpful
Glad it helped Sean :)
thank for the awesome video!!!
No worries! :)
Good job !
Big like and follow, greetings from Leicester
Incredible channel!
Thank you!
Thanks for your cool videos , you explain everything very well ...
Greetings from France
Glad you like them! :)
Sweet 🙌🏼
hey ive been wating for this vid aha im trying to get into some pike on the canal thanks guys :)
Goooood luck :)
For a secure fit, you can use a lighter to gently heat the twisted connection until the plastic melts together ;)
People, do not use a lighter use hot water 👍🏻
Very neat traces Carl 😊
Thank you! hehe
Great advice no bs just good straight to the point and clearly explained thanks Alex,👌 respect from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪
Cheers Derek :) really glad it helped.
Great video (y)
I used to make traces using a twiddling stick, far safer than flinging those forceps around.
I’d also slide some tubing over the twiddled bit to save snagging on anything, it looks neater too.
I’m off pike fishing in the morning !!
Hi lads, could you possibly do a video explaining different types of lures and how and when to use them? Thank you keep up the great videos
We’ll try and cover that at some point! We’ve got a long list of videos to make already, but we’ll try!
Bead either side of your float boys, will stop it getting damaged . Love the vids 👍 keep safe both
I read your comment as 'bread either side of your float', i was confused for about 2 mins till I read it again. hahaha
Single set of trebles for me. Easier for unhooking and less trebles getting caught in the net. I was mostly catching off the lower set of hooks due to striking early for fear of deep hooking. The higher set always got caught in the net. Food for thought fellas.
Too fancy
Going in search of monsters in Ireland with deadbait on a known monster Lough, going to use this rig and I'm praying it works🙏🙏
Nice one! Hope it pays off :)
@@fishingtutorials So do I 🙏🤞
Gr8 video let's get out der and try it 👍
Hope you enjoy! Cheers mate :)
good one i caught a 35lb pike on the exact thing!
Nice tutorial
Thanks!
Hi,
I'm looking to try float fishing for pike for the first time. When you set up the rig, would you match the weight of the ledger to that of the float?
Probably the most helpful/informative angling video I have come across. nice one!
Wow, thanks!
Old video i know - But I know but when i was a kid, a family friend used to take me fishing with him and got me into the sport. started off fishing for small course fish with a pole before graduating to pike fishing many many years later and we fished with a float for pike pretty much the same way as shown in this video.
However. I was taught to never strike immediately as soon as the float started moving unless it was absolutely sailing down the river at full pelt . Reason being because sometimes the pike will not approach the deadbait from directly head on but from the side. You can strike immediately but there is a small chance you might not get a hook set if you strike too early.
Other pike behaviour ive observed while fishing is occasionally pike will _'mouth'_ something. It will pick up baits and drop them or pick up baits and swim with it for a few minutes before deciding to eat it. If you tend to use larger baits like mackerel then this will apply more to you than someone who is using smaller deadbaits like sprats, pilchards or sardines. The picking up and putting down/mouthing tends to happen more in the colder months.
This is the way i was taught and i dont think we've ever had a pike that was too deeply hooked. We used to catch at least 8 or 12 fish between us per session.
YMMV
Thanks for making this video man. We'll done!! Do you rig a live bait similar ?
Great tutorials keep them coming Dave B Chichester
Cheers, plenty more coming!
Going to try this out this weekend, lake is supposed to hold some Pike up to 30lb!
Oh nice! Hope you had a good session!
@@fishingtutorials Hey thanks! It was nice to change up from Carping, but sadly nothing to report with regards to the "30lber" but now I've done it and tbh seen it's actually not that hard to setup I will certainly be back!
i clocked on it and was like bloody hell it's carl 😂
Haha hey there :)
Have you ever used circle hooks because I heard they are good for preventing deep hooking but I'm not sure
Hello I've done some pike fishing in my past and have decided to try to catch them with this method. My question is that if it would be okay to use a smaller inline pike float that has an 8g cocking weight
Do you guys fish with the float in spring and summer aswell i normally do it only in winter?
Can you do lure fishing tips Carl
Great video but I’m confused about 1 thing, how do you make it fish deeper? There’s nothing stopping the float sliding down to the weight so surely it’ll always be fishing shallow?
Hi could you do a video on lure fishing for pike .and how to handle pike safely.thankyou keep up the good work
Coming very soon!
I took the trebles off my lures and switched to using pole elastic to keep my dead bait on when float fishing I hate treble hooks.
The wrapping of the hook nr. 1 and the swiwel… how does just spinning it keep it from coming undone?
-also, do you have one for trolling live bait?
Lads, wouldn't recommended a half blood knot for braid. Grinner knot is a much better choice.
uni with an overhand stopper or go home :D
Feel free to use any knot you like! We’ve always used the blood knot and the braid has always snapped before the knot. :)
@@BlokeOnAMotorbike absolutely correct
If you're snapping braid it's not strong enough... The problem is, folks look at the breaking strain of the braid, not knowing that the abrasion resistance is worse the finer your braid. Go by diameter, so if you're used to 15lb mono go for 0.35-0.38mm diameter braid, ie 50-60lb breaking strain.
At what depth would you fish at? Just off bottom? Or aim for lead to sit on the bottom just cocking float?
Should be using quick change swivel really. Much easier when you have a pike in the net. Should ALWAYS use braid as well so you can bend trebles out of snags if need be
Andrew Butcher we say mono is a no no you’re spot on there. Seen more than enough floats on the river I’ve fished out because someone used mono.
I really need help what casting weight of rod would you use for this set up? An answer would be appreciated
Hey carl n alex you should come fish the leeds liverpool canal skipton stretch some very nice pike being pulled out
Reply please?
Does the float suspend the weight of the lead and the bait above the lake bed ? ( im wanting to fish a foot or 2 above the bottom)
Is there a name for that 2 treble hook on a leader setup? I want to see if I can purchase them premade but I don't know what to search for.
Can this rig be used in any pike scenario such as a large fast moving river
Would this work with live bait like a creek chub or bluegill?
What do u mean when you like to set you float over depth do u have the bait on the lake bed or suspended up the water column
Depends on how you want your deadbait to sit. Don't forget you can still fish the rig with a live bait.
Could you do a tutorial on ‘winter’ pike fishing
Shaun s if you are struggling in winter cast to features such as over hanging trees or deeper water
You need to make merchandise 🎣
Working on it ;)
@@fishingtutorials i will buy your merchandise if you make it boys
