This is easier to follow than instructions in a book! I use the second knot, but plan to add the others. Thanks for the direct, no-nonsense descriptions. Fish on!
I've used the improved clinch knot for over 20 yrs. I like the speed of tying it and don't even have to look while tying it which is great in dark situations. Never lost a fish due to its performance.
I agree I may try a couple of these but the improved one has never failed me from the knot. only times it did was me not keeping it wet or using wrong size line for what i was doing. I have broke a catfish hook before breaking the knot, straightened a bass hook, and broke the top section of my pole and had to cut the line because the knot would not break. so if these other knots are stronger then i better break trees down and shatter rocks then lol

Still don't really know anything about fishing but setting my rod up ATM. Next up is to get set on what I use for lures/bait and different lines. If anyone has any tips just throw them at me because I don't have a clue on what I'm doing. Times to fish and areas ?
after a hiatus of 20 years from fishing( my sons left home and work is constant in the summer) I retired and took up fishing again. Had to learn knot tying all over again. The palomar knot has become a favorite.
Clinch had to put on back burner as with the Palomar..Uni-knot is so useful for nearly any item to tie to- braid-to-braid or to mono, even easier to swivels and such.. Do like the first you showed may have to use some spare line to practice that one a bit, to see how i like it.
Agree. I also use a Uni for almost everything. Lately I’ve been running my line through the eye of the hook twice (like you would for a Trilene) and then tying my Uni. Gives me the best of both.
The trilene knot is just so awesome I'm surprised it's not more famous. The skipper of my fishing boat taught it to me as a deckie over 25 years ago and I've been using it ever since. It's just so quick and easy to tie it, and never slips. I've even tested it myself and it definitely holds more weight than any other. Try it and see. It's just a simple clinch knot but you start it with a double pass rather than just a single.
Yes this is the only knot I use also. Never had it fail on me. From using 10lb test to 40lb leader I use the same know. I usually wrap it 5x with smaller line and 3-4 depending on how big the knot looks if I use like 60lb fluro for sharks. Works great just harder to get it nice and flush with thicket line
I'm new to fishing (as a whole) so 'tips & tricks' are what I need. Your channel is full of the information, and with lots of details that make sense. Welcome to my favorite list.
Jimmy Houston taught me the Palomar back in the 80s and just never saw a need to use any other. Takes all of 30 seconds to retie, which if you're fishing heavy cover, you NEED to retie fairly often. I've watched NDYakAngler tie the Triline knot several times, but now I know the details. Thanks Debo!
@StealthCamper agree, cant beat the uni knot, simple and strong, pulled up 8ft sharks on em, don't know if you go boat fishing but trying to tie some knots when bobbing round in a swell is a lot different than sitting in your lounge room in front of the tv, uni knot all the way . I use the UNI-knot which I think is the trilene knot or something similar and it’s very strong when tied right and it’s very easy to remember. I can change lures in about a minute with getting all my shit out and picking a lure and tying one on with the Uni-knot
I use the improved clinch for mono and palomar for fluro and braid. I never knew to check that the lines are not crossed going through the eye, I will from now on. Thanks Debo!
Those were all great knots. Nice instructional vid!👍👍👍 My knot of choice is still the uni knot though. Been using it for everything for over 30 years. Can’t ever recall a knot failure of any kind. Pretty sure I could tie it in my sleep too.
I just tie a Palomar on a quick change swivel with some 30 pound braid, good to go. Anytime I loose a lure it's because the swivel breaks, I hardly ever snap my line though
The Trilene knot has been my go to knot for years. It is super strong and lays well. I even use it with braid and tie straight to the hook. Just give it two more wraps and it is good to go. Uni knot for making mono leaders that attach to the braided line. Thanks for the video.
Trilene knot is very strong when tested. However, it has a tendency to unravel for no reasons. I lost quite a few lures because of it. Maybe I did not have enough wrap (5 times). I since moved to Uniknot, which does not test as strong. However, it is more reliable in real life.
Very clever video debo. I hate to admit, when I tie flouro or mono, I still will tie the improved clinche knot every single time. For braid, I hate wasting so much line with a Palomar knot, so last year I switched up to a double uni knot. Basically the same idea of doubling the line. So far it has been rock solid for me and it's easier then some of the others.
I’ve been using the Trilene knot for many years. Between it and the RP knot for my leaders, it’s all I need. I really like the Palomar knot but I lose a lot of my leader each time I re-tie. So I use for braid only purposes. Some people make this more complicated than it needs to be. As you said, practice. Practice a couple and master them. You’re good to go.
Been using the palomar knot for the longest time, but for the last couple years or so, have used the orvis knot. Still use the palomar knot for rigging dropshot. Love how you keep it real in your videos- snags, lost lures and dinks (of course)! Keep up the good work. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Im getting in to fishing as the last time I've been was when I was really young, so I find a lot of your videos helpful. Im taking my lady and kids fishing this weekend and im planning on the trilene or palomar, and test out how things go for trout and bass
He slightly underrated the improved clinch. My friend will use that solely, and he regularly fishes for white sturgeon. It is good for virtually everything and super quick. Not as strong, but strong enough for most scenarios
Fantastic!!! I fish almost everyday and get sooo mad at myself when a line breaks or even GOD forbid a knot slip and my lure goes flying. You're right in the beginning, tying a good knot is crucial. Nothing else is as important. Thanks man💪👊
I discovered the palomar knot by mistake just trying to find a nice strong knot when I was a beginner. I didn't know that's what it was called until I saw your video. I use the same knot on all of my lures and it has never failed me. Ya know what they say. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Thanks for the content!
My man coming in with the training videos. Going to watch and see what you like. Done, never seen your first knot before that’s really cool. I switch between the Palomar and the Uni knot. Unit knot has become my favorite, it’s also a great knot for tying leader to main, called a double Uni Knot.
I connect my braid to my leader, usually fluorocarbon, with the double uni knot. For monofilament and fluorocarbon to lures I use ONLY the Trilene knot. I don't ever tie braid straight to my lures, but I've always been told the palomar knot is the only knot that won't slip with braid.
Thanks. Since I started fishing I used the improved clinch knot. I just accepted that the tag would gather junk, so I'd just pinch and pull it off. I'm changing to the Trilene knot hoping to avoid the trash gathering, pinch and pull to remove that trash.
I'm relatively new to fishing on my own (even as a teenager I just had my dad do the knots) and I've just been using the basic clinch knot, but I've been wanting to try the Palomar knot and this video was really helpful for that. Thank you!
Awesome video! I've used trilene for 30 years. In the last 10 years I have learned a variation that allows a small loop for jerkbaits, worms, or anything that needs a little extra natural movement on it's own. I only know it as a rapala knot because that's where I first saw it.
Great video! I'm similar and, unless I'm rigging something special like a snell hook, I really only use 2 knots: the trilene knot for mono and fluoro, and the palomar knot for braid. I know people still like to use clinch knots and improved clinch knots, but there's really no reason not to switch from either of those to a trilene knot that I can think of, for the reasons you mentioned. In fact, from what I can recall, the trilene knot was itself specifically developed in order to replace the improved clinch knot.
Nice video! I have used the Palomar knot for 30yrs. great knot!!! I really like the other 2 u showed. They look good as well. I’m gonna try both of them.
Been in the fishing game for about 2 years now. Your videos have helped me out along the way. A family member recently got hooked on bass fishing as well and of course you got some of my go to videos. Thanks for the content. Keep them coming.
My parents taught me the trilene knot 30 years ago and I fished it exclusively for 25 years with no issues whatsoever. Learned the palomar knot just a few years back and I use it exclusively on straight braid froggin, jiggin and other large swimbaits or any mono/flouro over 10lb test. A well tied, well lubricated trilene knot never failed me for 20 plus years on sub 12lb test mono though.
Thank you, I always have problems with my line breaking at the eye. So seeing how to reinforce the line at the eye Is greatly appreciated! Thank you again! my daughter and I will be trying these out today.

Same here. I use it to tie my leader to my drum rig and it has never let me down. I only wrap 3 time as I'm using a 50 lb leader.

Thanks. Since I started fishing I used the improved clinch knot. I just accepted that the tag would gather junk, so I'd just pinch and pull it off. I'm changing to the Trilene knot hoping to avoid the trash gathering, pinch and pull to remove that trash.
Same...
If you ever have to use circle hooks, I recommend adding the snell knot to your arsenal too.
I'm working on learning it. I know and use these three and love the palomar and uni.
It's one I honestly don't use a ton!

Learned the improved clinch knot and have used it for ten years, never failed me
My father taught me the Trilene knot, when I was a babe.. However, I had no idea what it was called until now. 💪👍 nice video. Thanks.
Your illustrations are the clearest and super helpful. Thanks
I'm relatively new to fishing on my own (even as a teenager I just had my dad do the knots) and I've just been using the basic clinch knot, but I've been wanting to try the Palomar knot and this video was really helpful for that. Thank you!
Yessir, a good knot comes in handy!

Best tutorial knot tying video I have watched.... easy to follow and you give that extra bit of advice that is lacking elsewhere 🤗
Staring using the trilene knot a few years ago and it’s been real reliable, other than that palomar and snell where needed
Both work great!
One of the best vids I’ve watched on simple knots and how to tie them. I’m hoping I can use this to teach my son too.
Awesome video! I've used trilene for 30 years. In the last 10 years I have learned a variation that allows a small loop for jerkbaits, worms, or anything that needs a little extra natural movement on it's own. I only know it as a rapala knot because that's where I first saw it.
Thank you for really breaking it down step by this is one of the best videos by far
I have tied and only tied the Palomar Knot. Unless I’m tying a leader knot but that’s a different story. You should do a video on that one as well.
Been fishing a long time. Clinch knot and uni knot are all I need.
Been in the fishing game for about 2 years now. Your videos have helped me out along the way. A family member recently got hooked on bass fishing as well and of course you got some of my go to videos. Thanks for the content. Keep them coming.
All 3 great knots!! I use Palomar, FG, GT and Double Uni as well, on braid I also use a drop of super glue. Tight Lines!!
My go to is the trilene knot. I hate weeds and algae on my knot😅
I like weeds in a bag
