incredible use of space in both the music and the video
Absolutely! Its amazing how so many tracks seem so empty yet full :))
Quite the tune he's got here. I've got a feeling Djesse Vol. 3 is easily gonna be his biggest commercial success thus far (or at least I hope so!)
His music is so uniquely him! Each song I've been listening of his is like a mini adventure full of insanely complex keys with feeling and meaning behind. One of the best musicians around
Shut up Andrew.
Incredible music, yes... and video to... but: ruclips.net/video/vT2hFTKCXx4/видео.html
What’s really impressive alongside the music itself is the fact that every frame of the video was hand painted. 1200 paintings over an 80 day period.
Thats nuts man, I have no idea how this comment doesn't have more comments
Really? Christ.
That is crazy amazing and inspiring!!!

Congrats on your 5th Grammy king! This song still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it so I'm glad it's getting the love it deserves 🙌🏻👏🏻
I just had an incredible day yesterday with my girlfriend and a really close friend, the whole day we explored the city and had so much fun and ended it all going to another friend's 18th birthday party. I had so so much fun. This song made me cry in happiness as listening to it made me realise how incredibly lucky I am to have someone who i love with all of my heart and so much more, and to also have an amazing friend who I know cares so much about me. The first time i listened to this song i couldn't stop crying as this overwhelming feeling of being loved and loving someone so much just overwhelmed me. I've never felt the former feeling before. I really hope whoever reads this has or gets to feel this chest tightening feeling too.
I feel you bro
Wow. Thank you. Keep them close
I’m very happy for you
Yes, while I can’t relate to this exact feeling, I have the same experience where the perfect song at the right time evokes such distinct, strong, and euphoric emotions
Who the fuck is cutting onions in here! 😭
Jacob is introducing me to such amazing musicians as Dodie, Lianne La Havas, Daniel Caesar and so many others and now Rapsody. Thanks JC!!

If you just arrived here, if you're not used to Jacob,if you don't understand the hype around his music, please don't stop at your first listening.
Take some time. Sit on your couch, get good headphones. Listen to this peace of arts not once, not twice.
Listen to it ten times on a raw, even more, even if you have no musical knowledge like I do, until you get a grasp of most of the voices, most of the musical parts. Until you get all the lyrics if you're French like I am (sorry for my mistakes by the way). Until you can see these more than wonderful paintings that is this video clip. Until you can see the pictures by listening to this song. Until you can see the big picture, the wonderful structure. Until you can hear, see, feel, and take by the hand a holistic approach to this masterpiece.
Once you're here, you get it. You can feel it in your bones. You get the chills. You get the hype. You can feel all the links created and underlined by Jacob's music.
I must warn you though : once you've been here, you're hooked. Nevermind the place or time, this piece will have your soul bounce and leap above what you imagined was possible.
This is art. This is love. This is links. I'm hooked, please get onboard.
Tu l'as parfaitement résumé :)
Thats right, his music gets better the more you listen to it

One? All of them!
"the people make a people sound"
Its so vague, but I just love this line. It's subtle, yet it still has the power to create such vivid imagery. We all know Jacob is a beast when it comes to his composition and musicality, but we can't ignore the fact that he's always been an amazing lyricist as well.
Absolutely. I think his lyricism is underrated
I quite like that one too. At first I thought it was a bit crap, but I kind of like the child-like nature of it.
I particularly like the lyrics of this song but in general he's not a great lyricist. But his composition is unparalleled. This song is the best song I've heard this year.
Same!
@@jonny__b The only thing along those lines that's stood out to me is the chorus from "All I Need". Love the song, but a bit too much cute close rhyming and "makes me feel alright" felt a bit too basic/over-used pop lyric. Though I'm pretty sure I've heard him say he spent a while on those lyrics to get them right for him, so... *shrugs shoulders* I feel picky mentioning this given every other fantastic wonderful thing he's doing.
this song helps me mourn myself - the parts of me i'm clinging onto - the harmful ones - the useless ones - the outdated ones - the unkind ones - the tired ones - the heartbroken ones - the ones i thought i should be - the forgotten ones - the neglected ones - the disappointed ones - the disappointing ones - the unforgivable ones -
This should be a lyric

It demands honesty. I heard the tiny desk today for the first (three) time(s) and now I cry when I hear it. It did something to me
Yes.
Love this. Thank you for sharing. X
Sometimes it's like he takes pure feelings and turns them into songs
Right? RIGHT?!
honestly! i hardly ever cry or even get close to it, but jacobs stuff helps/lets me connect with such pure emotion and always leaves me dumbfounded :) hes so talented in so many ways, i hope hes proud of himself because he absolutely should be
@@meesterboo don't worry about that he's far enough proud of himself
Totally. Music is about expressing your feelings. And well, Jacob seems to have absolutely mastered that
How come nobody is talking about that spoken word by Rhapsody? It’s so beautifully poetic.
That's what I'm saying. She slayyyyed it
i t' s a l l i t a l k a b o u t t b h
No it's not. Geez I can't stand spoken words in songs it's so cliche. In my opinion it detracted from the otherwise beautiful piece
@@SteveRayDarrell Okay well, I think it's beautiful and fits nicely. *Insert "That's MY OPINION" Meme*
I mean cliche isn’t always a bad thing, and it isn’t just random, it fits really well into the story of this song. So agree to disagree 🙃
its been 2 years and we still have no clue who hurt this man enough to write and compose this gut wrenching masterpiece
I feel like not enough people are talking about the visual masterpiece before us

It seems that he's refined his style for Vol. 3. The production is still very impressive and there's a lot of complexity under the surface, but it's been applied subtly, and everything seems to be in the intrest of serving the composition instead of an ambitious demonstration of what he's capable of.
I don’t wanna like crap on u or something but I feel Jacob never made music to demonstrate his abilities. He always talks about doing what feels right. And he is following the different themes he’s placing on the 4 volumes.
Samvit Singhal yeah but he really does love cramming every single idea into each song, and sometimes it gets in the way of a lot of peoples enjoyment of it which is fair enough I’d say. With more time and experience he seems to be holding this desire back a little bit and letting the song speak for itself :-)
@@samvitpremsinghal9460 Agreed, I don't think of it as demonstrating his abilities but expanding his musical horizon.
Jeremy Burne i can’t say I agree but I respect your opinion ✊
@@samvitpremsinghal9460 I'm not accusing him of being a show off. He's a genius and he just wants to share his ideas with the world. However he tends to pack a lot into a single song, and it can definitely be alienating to some listeners.
This is all just my opinion. I love his live playing and tend to prefer the live versions of his song.
I feel really lucky to have found Jacob Collier over the past few months, rather than years from now, so that I can see the creation of his work and share in the anticipation of new releases. Fun to be a part of this ride.
i wouldn't say this is one of the greatest pieces composed in the 21th century. especially because we're only a quarter in
the spoken word rap section breaks me every time. in the best way
As a longtime Jacobite, I loved his happy side, the joking trickster, his connection with the inner child of creativity. Here, he is dipping into maturity. He looks 15, sounds like an ancient soul, and in this tune gains the initiation into sorrow, loss, the blues, and gospel grooves. Listening now, I am crying not only from beauty, but also with depth.
Jacob's music feels like its holding me. Or even grasping me at times.
Why is "the people make a people sound" such a a beautiful line? Also everything about this makes me sob :))
It hits different with quarantine too. Like damn I just want to hear people doing their people-y things. 😭
This track is definitely in my Top 5 this year. Rapsodys part is stunning.
Rapsody x Jacob Collier is something I never thought I wanted (being fans of both of them), but holy crap it works so well 😭
this song is like futuristic gospel music. those moments at 1.25 and 3.27......when we switch the perspective . that is mind blowingly beautiful. Jacob is muli-tdimensionally talented
Chills at the “and all across from all around” switch up man, god damn
"Took separation to get closer to you" ...that line right there resonated with me. On another note, this song feels so ideal for the soundtrack of a movie. Something about it prompts me to think of what could have been...
He won a Grammy for this. I'm so happy!
I don't think people fully understand how amazing this is. And that Rapsody verse??? Incredible.
Y'know... I haven't listened to all of Jacob's stuff, but man, I think this his best and emotionally deep piece. I can't wait to hear the whole album

@@Thedrummaman76 For me, it means you have accepted and have let go of someone, that's how I see it. I have a twinbrother and I have missed him a lot lately, in that way I could relate to that line because you have to let people go sometimes and be okay with that. It is hard but also necessary.

Jacob is the most talented young musician in the world today and there’s no close second.
Period.
Amen to that 🙏🏻
The cult of Jacob collier
By what measure though? Pure technical ability, probably (although who knows, there's some pretty crazy young musicians out there, just not in the pop world).
@@Superdelphinus I agree, Jacob is absolutely brilliant, but it's impossible to measure and compare different musicians in that way. Other musicians might be better than him in one specific area like lyric writing for example, whereas he chooses to generalize rather than specialize (if that makes sense).
In the beginning, the guy is at his piano but not playing it. He turns around and stares into a window while his entire reality fixates on it. Memories follow which are beautiful, and the first things to bubble to the surface. Then a silhouette of a different character; brief snippets of contextless images appear, as if they were each little stabs to the heart. A piano is played with two pairs of hands, a hand from a second character blocks light over the first character’s face, a moment of profound sadness, a shattering of glass, and the two go their separate ways. He leaves the memory and shuts the door.
Second character returns on screen having a journey dictated symbolically by Rhapsody. They take a conch shell from the ground that is their version of the window. They’re reflecting on the beauty of the union and the lessons learned from the separation. Much briefer than the first character’s journey was, they conclude the journey peacefully and surrenders the shell into the currents to be washed out to sea. The awareness of these events gets communicated to the first character, by his seeing the colorful fireworks from outside window that he had returned to.
After Rapsody’s final verse, all the light sources are all multicolored with brilliant hues; the entire video is in black/white except for these few seconds after the final verse dropped. The character is turned away from the now fading splendor and the piano comes back on screen. right after, the “I wont be alright” verse plays while the character is facing away from the light. After turning, he starts walking towards the piano- the song ends. As the voices die out, the scene cuts to cloud sequences. The clouds at the beginning are black, and at the end are white.

Well deserved Grammy Win. Congrats Jacob!!
This is the most beautiful song I’ve heard for years. It sounds so simple and stripped, but there’s so much happening all the way through. Lyrically, it’s a song that talks about loneliness and pain, but musically it just feels like a heartbeat that will wrap you up in love forever and lets you know that you can heal and be ok again. It’s such a beautiful, emotional contrast.
Can we just appreciate the art if this video?

This is my spiritual song of Jacob's. Back home, I'd often walk along a nearby beach to clear my mind, think about things, enjoy the scenery. There were many days where the weather was what most would define as "disgusting." Overcast, the sand all damp, seaweed and other debris peppering the beach... but it was beautiful nonetheless. I would often have this song playing in my head as I walked, especially on the overcast days. As I write this, it's been nearly eight months since I've walked along it, as I've moved elsewhere. This song reminds me of home, of the beach... and I love it. So much. I hope I can return home someday and walk along the beach again, with this playing as I walk.
Oh my...No one can accuse Jacob of being a one trick pony. He has upped his game by showing us that his close harmonies can be the back drop of a song and let it speak. Thanks you so much Jacob x

Jacob just took me through a JOURNEY I can't even count the feelings I experienced during this song.
"he won't hold you, like I do" reminds me of "can anybody find me, somebody to love" (queen) but in a more subtle way, and then the "and all across from all around" section reminds me of something that David gilmour sang on but I can't remember which song, and then I get big gospel church vibes when rapsody comes in and it feels like a sermon. Jacob, the best thing ever happened to my ears and life.
Did anybody else hear the little whisper at the end of the verse at 2:26? You probably have to slow it down to 1/2 speed but I think it said "soon to wake up"?
Sing it again
@@maccunningham497 ooooh yeah ok thanks! This little whisper has been bothering me for a while.
Congrats on the Grammy, Jacob!
Thrilling. Something you don't see everyday.
Congratulations for winning the grammy with this song 😄
I get such a gospel vibe from this❤

Not at all surprised that this song won a Grammy. Congrats Jacob!!!
I have no idea how I ran across this guy today, but I have been going down a rabbit hole of his music all day. THIS SONG is my favorite. This guy is a musical prodigy. I've never heard anything like him before.
It's hard to describe how this made me feel when I first listened to it but it was powerful
The more I think about it the more emotional I get
Rightfully deserved Grammy for this masterpiece 👏🏾👏🏾
