I've been drumming for nearly 60 years and I have many favorites that I enjoy watching and listening to, but Todd is one of my all time favorites. Everything he does is spot on and dead on cue.
Only about 40 years here, but same. He is one of the best.

TS is a wonderful drummer! Had the privilege to see him at a drum clinic at 2112 Percussion in Raleigh, NC a few years back! Absolutely amazing! He really is a down to Earth guy who loves drummers and his fans! Absolute no ego!
I joke on Facebook telling Todd he turned Styx into a Prog band. The best thing about this dude is you can set him in any genre, including hard core jazz, and he's a shoe-in. One of the best in the world for sure. Been a fan for years.

My understanding is that Todd was chosen by the band members, in part, because he grew up a Styx fan and had the songs memorized. With respect to John Panozzo, it seems Todd, with his skill and technique, has added to the experience through his drumming. For those still reading, you should check out Styx with Contemporary Youth Orchestra. It is a treat to see a superb high school orchestra perform live with Styx.
Definitely one of my favorite drummers to watch. He makes it look soooooo easy.
I loved watching his Drumeo video on the nearly impossible drum lick that Steve Smith showed him.
I just saw a master in his craft. Totally at home, having fun and kicking ass. Just wow!
Todd is the top of top!! He's been my instructor/Mentor for the past 5 yrs!! I continue to get as close as I can to his abilities which every time I get to a new level he shows me just how much more I have to learn yet!! and I've been at this professionally for 50 yrs!
I was made aware of Todd years ago when I was on a website that listed some drummers with some seriously sick fills. Todd's fill before one of the keyboard solos in Styx's "One With Everything" is nothing short of amazing. You can watch him do it live at the Modern Drummer Festival he played (can't remember which year). Another fill that was on that site was Deen Castronovo's fill in the Cacaphony song "ESP". The guy called it the most testosterone filled fill he had ever heard (or something along those lines). I think it's the fill leading into the guitar solos.
His drumming is so effortlessly and yet he's so darn good. Wow....almost seams like it to easy for him lolol

Just found Todd on Drumeo hearing Rope for the first time. Turns out I've known Todd since 'The Grand Illusion' came out. Lol. Always one of my favorite bands. What an awesome drummer he is.

I always play along with the live version of fooling yourself. So much fun and challenging. When I'm doing a play along I always try to add some embellishments that are just my own. The way Todd soups up the song for the live setting is just great....whole nother level of adrenaline.....which is why I love drumming.

I remember when they were just getting started. You could see them play at Wheeling High School on Wednesday night for $3. They would put little signs out along local highways to advertise their shows.

Had the pleasure of taking a live Master’s Class with Todd. He Spent time with every student individually. Not only a great player, but an outstanding educator as well as a true gentleman. Very generous with his time. What He taught that day will take years to master.

@@AndrewRooneyDrums loose relaxed grip, a hi hat technique he called “shank/tip” he did have a hand out he called “ The Rosetta Stone of 2 and 4” highly advanced technique workouts, as well as knowing the importance of the lyrics as well as the emotion of the song that you have to play for

I only became aware of Sucherman within the last year...what a revelation! His technique and chops are obviously top-notch, but his playing style is so relaxed and ergonomic. There's no tension in his posture or shoulders. Just an extremely impressive drummer in every way.

Ohh lord vinyl days..... this is so amazing I forgot about Styx drummer.... Absolutely wonderful rabbit hole.... Just wait this was just one song..... Ohh grand Illusion ... Goodness 1977 My then boyfriend... Got his first car so it was 8 track and vinyl, radio is how we heard it. Wow it will be our 42nd in May.... see one of the secrets to a long happy marriage is Music. It is just wonderful we can share these old classics see old live performances. Todd. He started inspiring me when he first joined styx in the 90s. I was blown away back then. Today im still blown away whenever i watch him play. He is definitely the king of the hill in my book. His fantastic drumming definitely put styx back on the map big time. Tommy and jay were always at the top of their game. You buy a ticket for a styx show. I guarantee your going home with a smile afterwards. Videos don't do their performance justice. You have to see the real deal.

Todd Sucherman is the "Greatest Drummer" in the World and as far as history is concerned, he is thge "GOAT" of Drummers of all time!!! Todd has the "Imposible Beat" that is very hard to duplicate and he can out do anyone playing the drums and is a "Living Legend" to say the least. We all are so "Blessed" to have Todd Sucherman here with us presently today and he will always give you the best performance and out do any drummer you have ever seen in history!!!

Todd Sucherman is 1 of my favorite drummers. As is Eric Singer from KISS. Bill Marshall from the Bama Band and Mark Herndon from the band ALABAMA.
What an inspiration. So "at home" with everything he does. He's beyond thinking about technique and the mechanics and instead is just creating the sounds that he wants. Where's me sticks..

I'm a huge fan of his, and have been ever since I first saw Methods and Mechanics. He just oozes class in his drumming and personality alike. And he's one of 2 drummers I think of when it comes to double strokes, the other being Thomas Lang.

Syncopation AND playing it tight in the pocket (that's what she said). lol. Doesn't get any better than that. TS on the drums! Styx had a good and very original drummer before (John Panozzo), but Todd seems to add new energy to the band as a whole. Really a perfect match. And it says alot that after so many years to only have 2 drummers.

Fantastic drummer, and I was in a freshman in high school when Grand Illusion came out, listening to the Pannozo brothers. I am wondering if you would try checking out King Crimson, either the 1980s quartet of the Discipline era, or the "Dual Trio" of the Thrack era, or even the current version with 3 drummers. Any Crimson will be very interesting! "Indiscipline" from their Live in Mexico concert is amazing!

You should check that video Todd has on line, it,s an old video actually, it,s call 18 songs in 18 minutes i think, and it is ridiculous how that guy is talented. The view is from behind the kit, on the hi had side. The drums sound is extremely good. That guy is the real deal, and has been for a while.
