Bayle's tyranny can be quite good in invasions, especially when the host or phantoms are especially cavalier (at least 50% of the time) it has really bad recovery though, as you've said. Also, it easily 1 shots.
@@anitaremenarova6662 Dragonmaw feels like it can miss players rather easily due to how it moves forwards and I've been 1 shotting multiple players inside the aoe anyways.
Man, barely any spells get poise. I really miss Unfaltering Prayer these days. Yes, Endure exists, but it is also incredibly obvious whenever you whip it out.
Shatter earth is good to punish someone who rolls into you, as people like to do when you're a mage. The downward slam is fast enough to catch people and then it will true combo into the the shockwave part, and then you can continue into some other mixup because it has the fastest magic cancel in the game (only 4 frames). That magic cancel also makes it good bait. And the fp cost is super low (10) so you can throw it out all the time. Damage kinda meh, it's just a combo starter. Briars of sin is best for int/fai builds who have both staff and seal, and when you cover its startup animation with another spell with good hitstun and good magic cancel (shatter earth, gavel, dragonclaw, black blade, carian/adula greatsword). The idea is you cast one of those, they roll into to punish, trade into your briars hyperarmor, then they try to roll out but always get caught again by the 2nd brairs cast which has a big long-lingering hitbox. Then your magic cancel is good after the 2nd brairs cast (or 1st cast if they never rolled into you) so you can easily follow up with your ranged game. It takes some health but its fp cost is very low (6) and it's safe to throw out bc they can't outspace that lingering hitbox. It does pure magic damage so you can buff it to high heavens with the rest of your spells, and if you want to build around it even more you can either boost it with staff(s) of the guilty for more pure damage, or albinuric staff to scale the bleed with arcane. Some parts of Alberich's set also boost the dmg and the drip ain't bad. Frozen lighting spear has a melee hitbox on the downward slam (but still super slow), and if you cast it over a cliff the lightning will go all the way down. That's about it; it's my favorite spell and I spent hours in the lab trying to make it work for pvp but idk how. Good damage for pve though, especially big bosses who get hit by multiple strikes. But the faith req is too high for most my builds. I wonder if Miriam's Vanishing can help make some of these slow hyper armor spells easier to use. (I haven't gotten it yet, taking my sweet time with the DLC.) I hope so, I love spamming big explosive melee spells like these bc they are most stylish--projectiles are for nerds.
@@sylvanaspilot Originally i wrote it off as generic because it has the exact same name as the ash of war version, but spinning weapon on the carian regal scepter gets +22 poise added to your armor poise, and will reduce incoming poise damage by 50% It’s weird because the ash of war version doesn’t get any poise at all, even if you use it on a weapon with innate poise bonuses like halberds.
I'm not defending frozen lighting, but to clarify, it's actually the same as lighting spear where the stab itself has a hit box, slightly weaker than the ground aoe hit. but 67 poise isn't giving you a break here, and of course the worst part, the extremely narrow hitbox of the ground aoe hits are physically depressing when you can just watch someone casually walk towards you through the ground lightning and not get hit 😫 in theory it has the versatility to be a pointblank spell that combos into itself and have the utility to out range someone spamming a stationary ash of war. but just not good at either. and we're at version 1.12 so I'm not holding my breath
Very useful. I can floor damn near anything with Gavel, and I don't necessarily need to build poise on my dragon caster lady since her spells will probably have a fair amount. However this has also shown I actually should not try a slower spells on my UGS/Colossal caster unless I lack a Thrust and want to try a Horns mixup. Yet tbh I may be better off with a Stone Sling into r1/r2 to mess with some folks. Sad that Burn, O Flame lacks poise. This draconic favoritism saddens my heart, but it's just one more thing to try working around.
5:50 Speaking about this spell, do you have any idea how to get this to a consistently true combo? Is there a set amount o poise required or free aim as i can figure this thing out.
