Building Strength with Dumbbells for Seniors & Beginners // 30 min all Standing Workout

- Let's strength train together and build muscle mass with this 30 minute workout!
All exercises are in a standing position and are set to a timer so you can go at your own pace. We will perform exercises for 60 seconds, then rest for 20 seconds. I'm using a set of two 8lb weights for this full body workout. Please start with lighter weights if it is your first time doing this workout or if you are new to strength training.

This was so good! 42 yrs old and feel great after this workout🎉 I’m trying to tone and lean out a bit and your channel is perfect. This is one of my favorite strength workouts. I want others to know that your workouts are truly strength building. After 1.5 years of 2 times/week with your workouts, I can now do things that were too hard for me before. It works. It works because you offer challenging, but doable, workouts. I just turned 59 and recently tore my meniscus, so I’m slightly sidelined by my favorite activities like pickleball. I searched RUclips and found your videos for seniors and thought…oh well! I guess I’m at that stage!!😂 But honestly, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your videos and find the workouts wonderful! My heart rate is definitely up and I love the strength training. I'm in my late 40s and have never done any strength building exercises. I just got 2 kinds of dumbbells ( 5 and 3 lb weight) at Walmart. I am slim, but want to be nicely toned and not flabby as I get older. I followed this workout in this video and absolutely love it.

I am 73, this was my first time doing this exercise with you so I wasn't very graceful but will keep working with it. I only have 5 pound weights but they felt heavy enough for my first try with this exercise, I am sure I will improve with practice. Thank you for all these good videos.

I love your workouts! I've been doing them for 2 months consistently. I am not a senior, but I found your channel in search of strength workouts. I started with 5 & 8 lb weights. I am now able to do 15 lb weights with this workout. You're very good at explaining what to do and have proper form. Your workouts are very challenging! Thank you!

Definitely one of your harder workouts (and I just used 5 pounds). I find the workouts with weights are better for cardio, too, for me. As a 76-year-old for whom walking (5-7 K a day) had been my only exercise (until a foot injury), I really feel your workouts in my arms and especially shoulders, mostly in a good way. Thanks.

This was a really good workout and I got sweaty…😅. I love full body workouts that incorporate everything! My heart rate hit all the zones too…lol. I used 8 and 10 lb weights…great job with this one!!!

Looking forward to this workout. I have been following you since heart surgery just over a year ago and have built up enough strength to challenge myself with these! BTW, I have an Apple Watch and often don't know what workout to choose when monitoring my activity with you. Any suggestions? (or maybe you could put in the notes for each workout in future)
Great to hear! I have an apple watch too. Just go by the workout title. So for this workout, you would set it to "traditional strength training". Hope that helps!

Hi Lauren, I learned yesterday while listening to a health podcast, that seniors should do at least 2 days per week of strength training. I'm 66 and this was a perfect workout. It's challenging but doable.

I set my alarm for 5:15 am, take a cup of coffee back to bed, put on my exercise clothes and join you for the exercise workout for the day. I look forward to your exercise videos and see the results of this commitment to get strong. Whoa. I am humbled. I really had to "do me" and drop to 5 pounds for most of it. I had my quarterly phone check-in with my Accordant Care nurse yesterday who says "Well I know you're so good about exercising, but I always ask, how has your exercise been?" And I'm "uh ... yeah ... what exercise." I've just let things go recently and decided to get back to it yesterday with Pilates and a walk. Today I dialed in for weights and this looked perfect. It is a perfect workout but I'm so deconditioned! A big wakeup call for me. Thank you Lauren. 💙

I couldn't ask for anyone more to my liking to do workouts with! As a 58 year-old, new to weight-training, and overweight, your workouts are so good. I am feeling well challenged, yet enjoy the pleasant commentary from you, (including the reminders to keep the core engaged, tummy tucked, and knees bent, at appropriate moments!Thank-you for those!) I 've worked out with you 2-3 times per week for the last 6 weeks, and it has given me some new energy, and enthusiasm to do other things. At 69 I am new to this great channel. I have shoulder discomfort so will very carefully work up from 3lbs today to higher weights, body permitting (I'm sweating). Really enjoyed how quietly, gently and positively you gave instructions. Great job. I will do more. I love the stability ball routines and those with weights.

Ive just started working out with you. Im 70 and haven’t worked out for several months. I really like your explaining and encouragement how to do the movements correctly. In the cooling stretching i have a problem with bending my leg back in 45 degree. I can bend to 45 but not further my back of thigh starts to cramp. I hope with more work outs i can do that.
