The problem with big brands like Trek and Specialized they use a lot of lower components for such a high price. If you want the best components it is usually 25% more expensive than a competitor that delivers directly to the consumer. Damn, I want this bike...but with better components, if I was going to spend this kind of money.
I ride the entry-level Trek Domane AL 2 Disc with Claris R2000, which is only 1 kg heavier than this... it's really the best bike for commuting. I would never commute to work on such an expensive bike.
You never mentioned ISO Speed. The Domane SL7 should have both front and rear iSO Speed. ISO Speed is Trek's competitive technology to Specialized's Future Shock. ISO Speed also dampens shocks and vibrations - but rather than having a spring, it works by decoupling the seat tube from the frame in the rear and via a rocker cup which allows the steerer tube to decouple in the front. I being this up because you said the Roubaix is better due to its having Future Shock. I'm arguing that point by bringing up Trek's competitive ISO Speed technology.
yea I know I completly forgot to mention this, I am stil learning about trek every video I get and I only get like a day with these bikes before the customer picks them up..... so that was my fault but thank you for the correction and I will continue to get better
Is this a controversial setup? I’m about to copy this exact setup, from the flat pedals to the heavy/comfy saddle... I’m a total casual, just w/ money to spare, but I’m not as old like this guy as i’m 28.. IDC too much what other people think, but will i get scoffed at by anyone on the road as they overtake my fat ass with their aluminum frame? Will this get bad looks everywhere bc if that’s the case I’ll just buy a 4K bike or something.
Nawww not at all, you ride what your comfortable with. Don’t let anyone else make you feel different about that. I herniated my disc when I was 21 and had to ride full stack Roubaix with a +17 degree stem for 2 years until I was comfortable again
This is no cruiser, I drop so many out here in SoCal with their expensive aero bikes. Sure it’s me but this bike does not hold you back, you just have to buy nicer wheel set and put some 28mm tires.
If I'm not mistaken the bottom of the top tube has an adjustable ISOSpeed slider that you can open up with an alan key. You can adjust compliance through that.
It's only the Domanes with the SLR frames that have the adjustable ISO speed. But these ones that are on the SL frames work extremely well. I own an upgraded SL5 (a lot lighter in weight after the upgrades) of this bike and the ride just feels so nice on the rough roads here in the UK.
Why is the sound when you spin the wheels important? You mention how this one has “lots of engagement”. What does that mean and why do we care? It sounds sort of aggressive and loud or annoying? Thnks
The trek SL lineup has front a rear isospeed decoupling if I’m not mistaken. Correct me if I’m wrong. I really like the SL line up according to most reviewers, they say it’s the most comfortable endurance bike they’ve rode due to the isospeed thingy. Have you tried it out and if so what are your thoughts compared to the specialized feature shock system. Thank you.
I seen it I did a video of it, idk the domane new one looks pretty nice!! they seem a little bit faster where as the older domane might be more comfortable
I had a pair of ISSI Flip III pedals on my Tarmac for a year, so I get preferring the bail-out safety of flats, but now having some 105 clipless pedals it's hard to overstate just how much better it is to ride road with feet attached. There's no more having to waste concentration to keep the foot in that perfect spot, climbs seem to be a little easier, cornering feels more direct, etc. Mountain, though? Clipped in not even once. Hell no. Nope.
@@sandpiper2012 I’m 50 and uncliping is second nature. Even if I’m on my way down I can still unclip. If you are going to crash, you will crash anyway, regardless of riding flats or clipless pedals.
There are full suspension mountain bikes lighter than this. I don't care about weight that much, but when I see a 7000 usd bike weigh 2 kg less than a trecking bike, something is not right.
I mean lok at the pedals and tires and garmin and everything is on there.... I can for sure get this bike to under 16 pounds but this is what he prefers alos there is a tube inside the frame
Gabriel, this bike is for endurance riding as well as for gravel. That means comfort > aerodynamics. Moreover, as he said, there are heavy pedals, saddle, tools. There is a lifetime warranty on the frame! For example, many other bike brands has a 5-year warranty on frame. That's the difference, isn't it?
Curious on your thoughts on the isospeed vs the future shock. The isospeed looks inferior on the front as it only seems to pivot back and forth which I would really say soaks up bumps which the future shock definitely does.
I think that the future shock is for sure the clear winner in terms of feel for the rider but some people dont like that loose feeling at the front and they feel it lacks performance I like it alot and plus the facotr of being able to lock it out on the go is something so nice
lmaoooo I understand it is for an older gentleman who was like 70 who has been in the industry for years so he just wanted something nice that he can ride around the neighborhood and still get his exercise, I dont mind that atall
@@GCPerformance18 I tried too but Canyon put a hold on it, they never got back to me so I’m assuming they want to fix the seat post issue first before continuing to sell in case they need to change design
Most consumers doesn’t have the characteristics of a pro but I understand its totally ok to be delusional to think an individual is a pro when riding casually at the nearest park. Endurance bike are the go to for mamils period. Legit bike fitters know this but then they need to keep customers happy like you. This bike is an all rounder period. Not even roubaix can match the tyres to go gravel riding.
I don’t get the cycling industry aero has a weight penalty comfort has a weight penalty. I’ve got an old trek alpha series 1000 in the shed just weighed it with pedals, cages computer and 28mm tyres it’s 30 years old aluminium and weighs 9.9kg. With 28s on it the old girl has no road buzz so why with all the technology is a new bike so heavy. It’s almost like the manufacturers are deliberately ballasting bikes 7.2 kg uci race, 8.2 kg aero 9.2kg comfort.
I have always wanted too and the only way would really be opening another store, specialized and trek dont typically share the same stores, but I have thought about it

The Domane, duh!! Mainly b/c I own one.
Domane by a mile.
I love my Roubaix. It’s a 2016 it’s hard to justify an upgrade. But that’s a 1st world problem 🙂😂
Roubaix of course...
Roubaix for weight, Domane for geometry.
Awesome bike! I ordered Trek one week ago and it arrives at the end of July. I'm so excited and happy I made great choice.
