225 pounds 49 times is hard to comprehend. I've seen some strong guys at the gym do it maybe 20 times but he was throwing that weight around like it was almost nothing. 49 push-ups is pretty good for most guys.
Strength makes 225 feel light, endurance allows for high repetitions with a light way. No matter how much endurance you have, you can't bench something that feels too heavy for very high reps.

Dark Ascent CoC the bench press at the combine is more so a test of endurance than it is strength. Yea the reps aren’t competitive lifting standards but they’re still about 90% of the ROM (without locking out) and ridiculously impressive. That’s why the NFL is more lax on what counts as a rep

I wouldn’t say that the combine is meant to predict success, but to allow teams the ability to compare measurables. Is it flawless? No. The 40 would give a better indication of game speed with pads and such, but the league has other ways of measuring game speed. The senior bowl for example used technology to measure players on field speed.
