An old gym meathead. In my younger days at 5'11 195 lbs. on any given day bang out thirty reps at 225 on a flat bench. On decline forty to forty five reps. Now in my mid fifties the shoulders are shot. I'm still in the gym but haven't benched in years. Not sure I could even do one rep without a lot of pain.
@@reyza1899Bench pressing obviously. Even if you do it with “good” form, you will pay sooner or later. One of the many reasons I’m against bench pressing. Matter of fact, my focus has always been strict overhead pressing. Shoulder blades move freely, it’s more athletic and more impressive once you can press huge poundages above the head (your whole body is the stabilizer not the bench).
Impressive to do it only once. Most people can't. I'm 60, been lifting for 8 years, and 9 -10 times is about what I can still do. I am starting to see my strength lessen as I continue to age.
The clean and press is a better test of overall strength for athletes. The clean is the explosive part of the lift. And the strict press is the brute strength element. It perfectly tests both types of strength an athlete needs on the field.
You need to adjust your Reps, sets, weight Etc. increase your carb intake quite a bit beginning a day before trying a PR helps also. My best is 225 for 16 Reps. I've been lifting for 1 year. Currently I'm having joint pain pretty much all over my body so I'm taking a month or maybe more off.
I'm 185 and I don't bench press at all. Last month I said that my gift for my 43rd birthday was to bench 225. My birthday is 2/24 and I got it. I had a little help but I made it. I never knew how impressive this bench press is until now
I’m 58yrs old and can bang out about 8 at 225lbs back in the day I was at probably 15-16 … at a body weight of about 185-190 . It’s all about consistency be a life long fitness advicate
Ron Simmons did 48 times in a row when trying out for the Browns in the 80s. His locker is enshrined at Florida St Uni. Lex Luger and Mark Henry told stories how insanely strong and powerful that guy is during his wrestling days.
It takes guys even with good genetics many years to hit 225 for just 1. These dudes hit 225 for 20-50 reps like nothing. They are the cream of the crop genetically, even most competitive powerlifters dream to have the genes of NFL athletes
When I was about 26 I was 190 solid. I could do 225 30 reps and 275 10 reps. The good old days. Now at 43 I can only do 225 10 reps and 275 about 4 reps. Time flys.
I hear ya, I did 255x12 at 20yrs old at slightly puffy 200lbs (think i was at 19% BF), never pushed heavier as that was about my peak training. At nearly 40, I still lift but hold myself to 205 on bench as I had a rotator cuff injury/surgery from a mountain biking crash in my late 20s. Time does fly but don't you still feel like a kid? But then i think back to all the crazy stuff I did on motorcycles, quads and cars (I was a gearhead before fast and the furious came out my senior year of high school) and couldn't fathom doing that shit again 😅
Wow! there's another Jay Hooks out there that lifts. When I first saw the post I was like, "when the hell did I post that?" then I seen how old you are. I'm 60, started lifting at 52, can still do 9 -10 reps at 225. Keep grinding.
The wider the grip the shorter the distance - the easier the rep. Plus bouncing off your chest and also raising your chest off the bench to meet the bar as you pull down makes it easier. It’s not just strength it’s strategy. Powerlifting.

Now I’m not saying don’t use good form etc. but to expect these guys to perform the bench press like bodybuilders when they’re at an nfl combine is insane.
Fr bruh🤦🏾♂️
You mean powerlifters, right? Not bodybuilders. Sorry if I come off ad picky in this comment.
mostly that half the guys aren’t gripping the bar evenly, one hand will be in a completely different space from center as the other. they definitely don’t specialize their training around just benching and having the most optimal technique
29 is pretty damn good
Saquon is a freak athlete
It's estimated that only 1% of the population can bench 225+
So give yourself a pat on the back if you can. But realize doing 25+ reps is next level freaky.
I gas out at 12-13. I can't fathom going for double.
"Lock em out"
I GET IT ! lol 😆
Damn! I'm 52 and I can bench 225lbs for 10. These dudes are strong...inspiration!
U need some test and ur good to go bro for sure 25 reps like nothing
Personal best was 225 x 32 in 2019 @44 years old, weight probably 220-225 lbs at the time. Max at that was415 steroid free. I've noticed this is tied to genetics. a lot of people who work out harder than i do, can't do this, but definitely high rep training is the way.
Who else watches this while they hit their set on the bench?
Before I hit the gym 😂
I can’t call myself strong until I’m able to do this
bro last clips is actually INSANE

peds
And, for some of them, juice
@@noncog1 juice is illegal in sports and players get drug tested so I don’t think that’ll slide 💀
@@cj.59 almost all top level sports test, and almost all top level sports have people on peds, the testing isnt good, and its on purpose, a lot of the sanctioning bodies dont care about keeping it out 100%, just it not happening to a huge degree. Its even in the olympics, which has the largest governing body there is. its so understood in strength sports that athletes competing in tested federations are no longer refered to as clean or natural, just tested, because we understand that theyre still using, just being careful about what they take and when so they can test clean. Its in every single sport, every super hero movie (with the exception of the newest batman movie), and even in your local gym where theres nothin on the line bcs they just enjoy the strength and the look. I even know a couple of my coworkers who dont play sports and work out very casually are open about it. Id bet any amount of money that some of these guys are on peds, even if to a small degree. That doesnt discredit there work, and its not calling them out bcs like i said, its in ever sport, but we need to be honest and transparent about it for the sake of those comparing themselves to these people without knowing, and for the sake of the health of those using. Peds can be extremely dangerous, those using them need ro have access to blood work and information to keep themselves healthy, as opposed to picking their chemical and dosing based on what wont get caught.
@@cj.59 you know nfl players are on juice right?
Straight up beast mode! 💯
Ok
what killed your shoulders?
@@reyza1899Bench pressing obviously. Even if you do it with “good” form, you will pay sooner or later. One of the many reasons I’m against bench pressing. Matter of fact, my focus has always been strict overhead pressing. Shoulder blades move freely, it’s more athletic and more impressive once you can press huge poundages above the head (your whole body is the stabilizer not the bench).
Sure you did
The difference between decline and flat bench press is 7%. How did you do 200% more? I think you’re capping
THIS GUY IS LEGEND
The second DK came I knew he about to go crazy
I could only toss 225 9-10 times. So it’s impressive seeing these dudes get after it.
Impressive to do it only once. Most people can't. I'm 60, been lifting for 8 years, and 9 -10 times is about what I can still do. I am starting to see my strength lessen as I continue to age.
10 reps of 225 is normal if you're at least 170lbs.
@@jayhooks6031How did it take you 60 years to bench what teenagers are doing in 3 months
@guccidan2026 stfu.. you don’t even take the bar all the way down to your chest on your lifts.. you’re a pussy.
@@guccidan2026 absolutely not. Most people can't hit 225 for 1, so it certainly isn't "normal" for 10 reps of 225 at 170 lbs bw.

This is light work. I just turned 12 and warmup with 30 reps of 405
No the fuck you did not
That’s crazy i guessed how many reps he would do and i was spot on 😂
The bounce technique gives you an extra 5-10 reps depending on your strength -> THIS + there are a lot of guys doing like 3/4 range of motion.
Anyone else question why the bench press is the staple lift to display strength instead of a deadlift or squat?
Generally you will see more 405 squats and 494 deadlifts for example before 315 bench
The clean and press is a better test of overall strength for athletes. The clean is the explosive part of the lift. And the strict press is the brute strength element. It perfectly tests both types of strength an athlete needs on the field.
These boys been lifting since 12🤣
😂😂
When ole boy told her to Shut Up 😂
First dude is literally using the widest grip possible😂
Bouncing 💅
You need to adjust your Reps, sets, weight Etc. increase your carb intake quite a bit beginning a day before trying a PR helps also. My best is 225 for 16 Reps. I've been lifting for 1 year. Currently I'm having joint pain pretty much all over my body so I'm taking a month or maybe more off.
It’s crazy seeing this because I can only do 225 for 5 reps
I bet you’re in the top 1-3% of the world lifting that much. These dudes are the top .0001%. Pretty hard to compare yourself to these guys.
@@sandoshack agreed, and two they have the trainers specifically to teach them how to increase their reps,

To get to 225 is a journey ngl. That shit is heavy 😅😅😅
Yup. The beauty about it is, though.... eventually... it starts feeling lighter.
That spotter man . . .it would just piss me off
What do you call those plates that fit together?
interlocking plates
Spotter would drive me nuts
Same, dude wasn’t even letting the guys fight for that last rep
I barley just hit 215 today @148 bodyweight this is motivation 💯

Look at DK Metcalf’s bench, regular grip, and the guy right after him too
@@fizzle2323 most of the combine athletes are doing it without strategy is what I'm saying, hence their numbers could be higher if they made it easier by following what I described which is what the tv presenter did and he also partially explained as to why he achieved 45 reps.
