It was a planned 1 to 1 switch since it was the same manufacturer and model. The catch was we bought the replacement power luffing Davit used and it had an undisclosed faulty ram. As you are seeing, it was even abut more challenging than we illustrated...
It looks like you replaced a Steelhead WD800 with a Steelhead WD800. Can you please explain the difference between the two models (old and new)? Thanks.
The original one had manual luffing (moving the boom up and down). To do this it has pin holes spaced out about 3” from each other. Invariably, one made the boom to high which would rack the dingy against the hull and the next one down didn’t let the keel of the dingy clear the bunks. That meant horsing around a 500-700lb dingy on a cable. Not a safe feeling at all. The power luffing WD800 enables us to lower the boom while we are lifting the dingy out of the water and raise it when we are placing the dingy on the bunks. Much less drama and effort. Now power rotation would really be the bomb.
@@ElliYacht1 I'm considering upgrading my own crane and trying to identify certain models. Do I have it correct that both your old and new cranes were Steelhead WD800s, except that the newer one had the added feature of power luffing? (or are they actually two different model numbers)? Thanks very much (and very informative videos, thanks).
If you contact sales at www.advantecstore.com/customer-service they can answer all of your questions. They were really helpful when I was doing the change over. Honestly, their model number differentiation is really confusing.
We found it used on Facebook Marketplace for $3k. We rebuilt a failed hydraulic luffing ram and replaced the Amsteel line in it so, about $4.5k all said an done. They’re about $15k new.
The new crane bringing down the old crane. The circle of life.
Admittedly I’ve never seen a davit changeover. Very nice job...more to it than I would’ve thought.

Thank you!
Nice upgrade!
I have a Chris craft 50 constellation with no crane how much do you think it would cost to get one of these installed? thanks!
Is old crane still available? I’m in Tacoma
I’m sorry we already sold it
Hi, where can I buy the kevlar cable for the crane?
Sorry for the delay in response it was a Steelhead website. hope that helps.
What’s better to have for a yacht a dinghy or jet ski?
If you have a pet a dingy so you can go to shore but, a jet ski is a cool option too
