Which Starlink is Better on a Boat? Maritime, RV, High Performance In-Motion or Residential?
Interesting. What is the material your hull?
If this worked as shown everyone would be buying one. I'm so skeptical every other review I see people say it didn't work for them and their dog hates the sound. I'm in for a bottom painting next week.
No one is telling you to do anything, just sharing an experience. Have a safe and productive haul.
Sounds great. So if I understand you correctly you have 2 transducers in the bow area, 2 on the hull in the ER and 2 on the engines, so a total of 6 ? What kind of wiring do you need to extend it all the way to the bow ? And maybe a strange question, but does the sound have any effect on animals ? We have dogs onboard and they might be able to hear the sound, don't want to scare or annoy them all day long.
This guy uses his wife’s nips to get people to watch…. Sad
My experience system works for hull but not so well for bow/stern thrusters or keel. The transducer on the thrusters were not effective as the gear oil and gears absorbed too much of the sound. On my boat the keel is too much mass for the sound waves to prevent growth. Here is a video review that I did, there is a link to an update. Plan to do another update in a few weeks. ruclips.net/video/9Syf3YqY7QU/видео.htmlsi=_LNXSxGRRPutuOXv
Great review! Beautiful Kadey. How did your stabilizer fins fare? Did the shafts insulate the pulse or did they stay clean?
@@ElliYacht1ok, light algae growth which easily wipes off
LOL, why is he giving his wife's vote? She has her own thumb.
Well worth the money if just on the running gear. Please do a long term update.
I would assume with a good bottom paint and no ultrasound system your hull would look the same because you have cleaned it 5 times. The purpose of these expensive gadgets and coatings like copper coat are that you dont have to clean it. Our hull has less growth than the boat in front of us who has copper coat and neither of us clean the hull and both use the boats about the same amount. Coppercoat is a waste of money in my opinion and the ultrasonic system sending constant vibration thru everything is not something i would want on my boat, i think it could produce failures in parts/systems that would not normally fail.
The rudders were the components that were protected in that test. Not the hull. The rudders were not cleaned. That said, if anyone has doubts about the ultrasonic system, I’d recommend against it. However, claiming that a 20kHz to 45kHz pulse would break your mechanicals or electrical is a reach. If anything it would reduce lubrication sludge or fuel deposits in mechanicals. Think ultrasonic cleaning.
So it will not work on a 48 Volt system? Or can you add something to take it down to 24 Volt?
They recommend a Victron DC converter. 48V to 12V
I would rather pay the $2k with a ROI of less than 2 years even if I were paying only a $100 a month for a diver. The bottom line is does it work??? I guess we will wait to see your results. Great content ty
I have found the waterline sill gets slime. It still needs a brush while washing the boat.
Thank you, my biggest issue is having to constantly brush the motor mounts and trim tabs (I have twin outboards) I also brush the water line every other week which unfortunately also removes the ablative paint. Definitely a first world problem 😂
What kind of paint did you use on the running gear? With primer, 2 coats of Interlux and hull shield, I still get growth. I am in SW Florida, so there is that.
Sea Hawk Sharkskin
6’ away. I will note these transducers just send out an ultrasonic pulse to the hull/rudder/running gear that microorganisms don’t care for. Kinda like Oprah music at the 7/11 keeping the kids away. It doesn’t send a focused signal like a depth sounder so, I wouldn’t expect (educated guess) that the two would interfere with each other.
Good info; thank you sir
You bet!
Interested to know how you attached transducer to the rudder.
I filed the rudder arm clean, sanded the bottom of the transducer and JB Weld’ed it on. The epoxy filled the gap in the center of the arm.
What water nozzle are you using?
Obviously this guy is trying to justify the costs. Must work for the company.
Dude, don’t buy it. It’s just a review.
Disconnect one of the rudder transducers for a while and then compare the 2 rudders.
That’s a good idea
Your monthly estimate for a 50 foot powerboat at $400 a month is crazy. It’s about $100 a month in California.
That’s a deal. Washington is a lot more expensive. At $100 per dive, I’d never consider these
@@theelliotts3840 I'd love to find a $100 diver. In CA on our 38 foot boat it is about $400. That does include some zincs and full running gear scraping. Had a cheaper diver years ago. Then we hauled out. Never touched the gear. It was a mess.
@@MVPaneeVino I've had 2 divers in 2 different marinas in Southen California and I paid $100 for the 27 during the pandemic and pay $150 for my 36 currently. Bottom paint is about $3000 every few years.

Thank you! You have excellent content. Your delivery is engaging and helpful. You don’t waste time. Your repetition is intentional and helpful. You are a good thinker which gives me confidence in what you have to say. You both do an excellent job. I enjoy watching the rapport between you. A couple that enjoy boating with each other. Imagine that. I’m looking forward to your follow up on this product.
❤
Does it have any effect on fishfinders etc?
Good question! We haven’t seen any interference with fish finders. It does give off a ‘chirp’ every few seconds, which I would probably be annoying when you’re sleeping, if it was too close to your bunks.
@@theelliotts3840 Thank you for your quick reply. How far are the Hull Shield transducers from your fishfinder transducer?
In Florida, you need the diver 2x/mo when it’s warm, around 9 months, and monthly when the water cools.
Good information! That’s crazy! What do divers charge in your area?
@ About $2/ft. Some people don’t want to have it done 2x/mo but they get charged more.
Keep us posted, great product if it works as advertised
Will do!
Awesome ...been wondering about that
Thanks! These long term reviews are never my strength.
Any updates on the pole mounts?
Do I own a boat? No. Can I afford a boat? Also no. Do I ever plan on buying a boat? Not really. Did I watch this whole video at 2 in the morning? Yes, yes I did.
TOP 🙌
As a merchant mariner I'm truly shocked at just how little equipment and regulations there are when it comes to uninspected vessels. Even on the the little tug I work on we are required to have an incredible amount of stuff from full firefightering suits and Scott packs, to line throwing devices. The list of required safety equipment is very extensive and even the annual CG inspections are all day affairs. Every 2 years drydock inspections are required and they are major inspections. So I guess what I'm trying to say is consider yourself lucky that you aren't held to inspected vessel standards!
Thanks to you both for your specific experience. We bought a 98 5300 last year and are still learning the best ways to make it the liveaboard it will be next year. For the primary/VIP cabin, where would the connection be? In the primary or behind the cockpit where the exchange unit is? So appreciate the information!
When are you doing a new video about your travels? I want to buy a yacht but I need to convince my wife that the life is good.
Your wife is beautiful just like mine, so I like seeing what life would be like.
We put the Airlock units in the salon and the master almost a year ago on our 4800. They work great. We didn’t have a major odor problem. But just enough to say “do you smell something?”. After 2-3 weeks all smells were gone. Except of course the foofoo stuff the wife likes to use……
Thanks for the review! I've been wondering if these actually work well. I have split HVAC units so the installation looks a bit more difficult with my control boxes not near the air handlers, but probably manageable. I also wonder about the long term liveaboard health safety of breathing the ionized air? I know ozone generators are bad, but not sure on ionizers?
Interesting question. From Quora Airlock Boat Air Purifier: Installation & Review ruclips.net/video/UKEZfz8GpCU/видео.html
We had an ozone generator in a house and this is different and doesn't have that smell at all.
You could put some Limburger cheese by it for a good test
Great idea! If it can handle that, it can handle anything.
Thank you for the review. I might have missed your review / impression on the operation of your electric fin stabilusers.
What do you do for a living
IT Services.
Trouble is anything thats polymer is always going to be hot underfoot. Wood breathes and is cool.
Thanks for the video to the both of you! Question, I will like to mount our Gen 3 on the top of the arch next to the radar gives a someone obstructed "sky" due to the radar on a seaview mount (open array 4' Furuno) and a light bar with a GPS and weather station mounted on it. If you were going to mount here would you use the flat mount or their pole mount and get it up above the radar? I'd prefer to have it mounted on the top of the arch flat as it would have less wind on it vs. 2' up. Please let me know your thoughts, and suggestions.
I admire you for making the video before you’ve really got the hang of using it. It’s really honest and open.
That touch screen is waterproof?
I just wanna say, You are a lucky man
very good information!
Great content! In the 2 standard RV dish configuration, does this mean you have to pay two subscription fees?
Great informative video. I'm looking at a Starlink service next year when my boat launches. One thing to clarify is that in network/bandwidth parlance, the speeds are not in MB, but rather in Mbits. WAN networks, which Starlink is, the bandwidth protocols are much difference than LAN (home/business) in bandwidth. I understood what you said because I've been in the network business since the 80s. In any case, I'm looking forward to my Starlink service.
It’s $20,000 dollars
It's a $1000
It’s 22,000
Not useful, the name is misleading. You didn't show how to mount the starlink. You merely talked about it.
And the cost ?
Nice chemtrail in the intro. Not supposed to notice?
