Lots of tech reviewers post videos after just a few days of use. Those serve a particular purpose, of course, but detailed long-term reviews like this one provide so much more value. Best video I've seen on the DJI Mic, by far.
Agreed, Ken. Most products come to market not quite fully baked, and get better with updates. Long-term is definitely the way to go. Nice work, sir!@@OriginaldoBo
Definitely one of the best purchases of 2022 for me as well. I especially enjoy the standalone/backup recording feature. There are times were I just record on the transmitter then sync it with the footage in post. Very comprehensive long-term review. Thanks👍🏾
I've had the DJI Wireless Mic system for almost eight months now, and pretty much agree with everything you said. It has not only made my audio better, but easier to capture. Great long term review, and thanks for sharing.
I agree although I wasn't thrilled with the quality of the sound. I've heard this reviewed outdoors and with ambient background the quality is harder to determine but in a studio environment like this a boomed mic run into a quality preamp or even wired xlr lav sounds better. Use it with the Action 3, brilliant piece of kit for vlogging and in my helmet for recording motorcycle rides. Using both mics in mono you can use to record the engine sound and voice combined in finished videos once you determine the correct levels.
The mic has a slight buzz. This is because of the cornered cable you are using to the camera. There is a straight cable that does not have this problem.
I am not professional or anything like that, but tech addict. Over the years I have used for family videos from Sony Alpha /RX100 cameras, Sigma lenses, high 3nd phones and rode microphones. Last year I have sold everything as I was a bit tired carrying all around and people generally being defensive when seeing somebody recording. Till few weeks ago I saw DJI pocket 2 combo in live for 250 euros and DJI mic set with 2TX and charging case next to it for 190 euros ($200). Got them both while I expect mic to come this week to try it out. DJI mic got so I could hear my wife as well in the videos vs single mic from combo. Portability + Quality + Stealth = Win. I hope I didn't made a mistake
I think the DJI mic sounded a little richer than the Lav mic. I just ordered a refurbished set of these for 235 with some DJI credit. The build quality of the Action 3 battery case is superb. I assume this kit is just as awesome. People say what they want about DJI, but no one can match the quality they kick out at the price point they do. Well done Ken 👌
Thank you for this great breakdown of the DJI Wireless Mic. I bought mine about six months ago and finally used it for the first time about two weeks ago. I used it along with a Shure Lavalier mic. I think that alone set me back $65 or so. So I filmed my wife, an attorney, who was giving a seminar to a group of thirty realtors about probate matters and real estate…the receiver was mounted directly to my iPhone 14 Max Pro mounted slightly off to her left side, and we had her iPhone 14 Max Pro also on a tripod slightly off to her right side. The idea was to create a final video of her speaking about the topic with A and B roll footage. I could not have been more impressed with the results, and the sound quality was absolutely FLAWLESS. I was able to do it as a complete beginner, and I highly recommend this mic. One thing to note…if the transmission had failed between the mic and the receiver/iPhone on her left side, no big deal. The reason why is because that transmitter, attached to the lavalier mic on her was recording a copy of the audio directly inside itself, “onboard” as they say. So I finished with a full onboard backup of the session. Amazing product, impressive, robust build quality, and an overall delightful experience using it.
Thanks for the review. I definitely needed to see all of what you provided. I working in news reporting for a local government and I was looking into this for those moments when we have to livestream and the audio sucks. Definitely helped. Thanks.
Agree it was one of my best purchases of 2022, it just works without much effort. What you mention about connect directly to the hotshoe for internal recording it's hard to implement since the brands keep the secret sauce for themselves.
Dude, you absolutely killed it on this vid. Not just a good review but the camera changes great edit man. I nvr doubted you man. Didn’t doubt you 6yrs ago. Your off and running now bro. Ball is in your hand. Giddy up ✌️
My DJI mic was purchased refurbished on eBay and everything is great except the built in mic sound quality. The built in mic on my DJI osmo pocket is better. I will try a lav mic on the pocket when I can.
I bought dji wireless mic several months ago to be used for video , input at transmitter is not well fit , sometimes I used sound from mixers occasionally loss signal but not often ,the connection is 3.5 mm stereo and I need to use rubber band to tie to make it stabe.[ I used many different 3.5 mm stereo connection to try ] .
Great review, I just got mine and was looking for some tutorials. Found the one that will help the most, yours. Even though it's not really a tutorial. Thanks!
Thank you for the video. Btw, I took your advice and purchased the DJI Mic Magnum Adapter "Extra Long" with Flag. I should be receiving it in about 2 weeks.
I own a Zoom H6 and Sennheiser G4's for bigger budget film use. But I wanted something that would save me time, worked well, sounded well, and would satisfy my needs for lower budget or personal use. Decided these over Rode and Saramonic. Don't regret it.
I found the part about processing the audio in Audition most helpful. I love the DJI mic, but the audio, though adequate, is not the best. I wish I could match (or get closer to) the sound I get from my wired dynamic cardioid mic 🎤 which sounds much better straight out of the box.
Glad you said about making sure mic is hidden for client type work, more and more I see external mics like these or Rodes on hanging off someone's t-shirt neck line or very visibly causing a lump underneath their clothing. Not a good look.
Hi, I just purchased these mics and watched your one year review, great stuff! I was wondering do you have an initial review where you talk about the features and tips on how to use them, Go into the settings and what not? I was scrolling your feed, but I didn’t notice one and figured I just ask. Thank you.
Love the Rode Go ii's tbh. They're a great backup system to have around or use as redundancy which is their usual use case scenario for me. Nothing in the consumer/producer realm really beats a G4 with a countryman but in case that somehow fails, the Go's are nice to have. For a primary system, I wouldn't trust any 2.4ghz system exclusively, but the DJI sounds like it's pretty nice. Question is, how DJI handles constant updates with its products. Rode has a history at this point in supporting the newer Go system and adding useful features all the time. Also, they're USB-C, so that's also convenient in the field.
What did you say? I'm not looking for this right now, but I bookmarked it for intended purchase this year. Thanks Ken for another good tech introduction.
I was considering buying dji, but few month before I learned about dji I got rode and still using it. May be later I shall buy dji, it looks like they put a lot of thought and put needs of users into account.
Sorry for making a request in the comments, but here it is. I bought two DJI MICs, and I have an issue with both kits. The DJI MIC doesn't pick up sound beyond 6 meters, and when the person turns their back, the sound becomes completely noisy. They advertise it with a "250-meter transmission range," but even at 6 meters, all my sounds are inaudible. Do you have a solution? I updated one unit to see if there was any difference, but it's still the same.
Hi great helpful video thanks. There's a card that popped up called "Products featured in video" When you click on it it opens a RUclips shopping page about the DJI mic. Did you put that there? I'm worried RUclips is putting up shopping tabs and not sharing revenue from them with creators. Hope RUclips is sharing sales revenue with you! Thanks in advance for any insight
Nice review. I used sennheiser professional wireless lavs on a couple of shoots last week and used this on a couple shoots - I honestly found these to be easier to use and sounded better!
@@OriginaldoBo Happy to support solid ingenuity and appreciate you not pricing crazy high. I know through experience with 3D printing that you are still making good money, but being that there is not really anything like this specific to the DJI Mic’s you could have charged more. I was on the lookout for something like this for a good bit. I will report back with my initial thoughts on the product when I get a chance to test for a few days!
Hey Ken really interesting video, it was great to learn how you get your audio so good, because there are always sounding so good. It’s like you where talking beside me. Currently using Shure mv88 for my iPhone to make videos. But this is next level. I think the 3rd option is the best it popping good sound. Also Ken , would you know by any chance? I used iPhone 13 Pro Max and Dji osmo mobile 6 to shoot for my video . If this would make it too heavy or would I need an extra weight? You may have come across it. Again thanks for the video . Hope all is well
Dont know whats going on but i record dj mixes and sync up the audio from my computer. There is some kind of sync issue with the audio that turns milliseconds to seconds the longer the video goes on, ive looked it up and its a known problem that has not been fixed. Awesome product if you are not doing long videos but its useless with the audio sync issues
Biggest bummer that the locking lav mics can’t plug into the 3.5mm Jack. And when you get an adapter it causes a ton of noise. I like my Sennheiser ME2 lavs with my G4 way too much to use such a bulky little pack on someone’s shirt.
Thanks. Interesting reviews. So no great concern about the self-noise that seems to have put off a lot of buyers of this mic system over, say, the Rode Wireless Go 2?
Great vid by the way I too love these and have been using them since they came out. I wonder if you could help me with something.... I am going to be running a game show on my channel where I have a host and two teams of 2 people, so 5 people in total on stage. I was planning on use the dji mic on each person so there'd be 5 recordings. I am currently using tshure mvl lav mics with the dji mics I have. Of course I'm going to play around with different settings but based on that info what would you say would be the best settings in regards to mono/stereo or do you think it would be better to just hit record on all transmitters and have them all set to mono? I have a feeling I'm going to run into a lot of problems so any advice from you or anyone reading this would be very helpful. Thanks again for the vid 😎
I must have got a defective kit - after watching tons of great reviews like this, I pulled the trigger on the DJI mic kit. 1st video I made went amazingly. 2nd video as I began using, every single clip I filmed had EXTREMELY glitchy/peaking signals - even though nothing was peaking visually. Even after turning down both the receiver and transmitter gain, I could not get a take without glitchy vocals to save my life... after filming each section 3 or 4 MORE times to get a usable take (resetting every setting, restarting my phone, etc)... I FINALLY got "passable" takes. What should have taken me 2 hours to film, took almost 8 hours into the early morning... to meet upload schedule. To say I'm disappointed would be a MASSIVE understatement. What a let down...
The DJI Mic receiver is not happy unless it has constant line of sight to the transmitters. Glitching is likely even at relatively short range if your 'talent' turns their back or if someone or something passes between the transmitter and receiver. So it's a great product if you can exercise strict control over the scene but otherwise unreliable. For this reason, I always have the transmitters record onboard safety tracks and I've become so used to the system's shortcomings (and suspicious that any alternative might be more or less the same in less than ideal conditions) that I bought a second kit.
@@Sketchtool I did and they told me the only option was to refund it and purchase again through Amazon. I did that and received a new kit after all that nonsense. Now the glitch problem is gone, but one of the transmitters won't charge...
Great to see some long term usage! I got it and it won't work with my phone ...Samsung Note 10+ ...I'm like a kid at christmas and researching new phones but trying to avoid an iphone lol ...Still waiting to hear from customer services to see if the OnePlus 11 will work :) if not Samsung S23 ultra I think
I'm looking into picking these up one thing i need to know is will they auto sync up if they disconnect. I and a wedding dj and think these would be great for Ceremony mics but alot of times i have to go mic up the couple in separate areas and away from the receiver i just need to know if they will sync back together once in range.
Just bought the single version of this mic and my only con is the hot shoe adapter is a tight fit on my Panasonic G85 and it seems a little fragile. Other than that the mic is great. Just sold my Rode Wireless GO II for this.
I love this mic! Just bought it! One issue though; when I attach it to the r5 on DJI rs3 gimbal if you move the gimbal into undertaking mode then the roll motor hits the receiver. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the content. Before buying the DJI Mic, I will be grateful if you share your negative experiences as well: did not you have any latency issues with video, echo issues with cabled mics, interference issues with lavaliers or cameras, compatibility issues with any cell phones or action cameras?
Yep, I had the same experience. My only complaint is that the receiver hot shoe mount doesn't work well if you use DJIs Extension Rod with a Pocket cam. I did purchase an extra hot shoe, trimmed it a bit to fit at a 90 degree angle so the receiver faces me (3.5mm output connected to the Pocket input). Now that I have a 3D printer...that's on my list of things to build. I see the Mic holder on Etsy with the pistol grip, do you have a version of the original "ABC Wide World of Sports" style of holder?
@@OriginaldoBo Thanks. How tough you find removing the adapters from the receiver? Sometimes, I feel I am putting too much force on the receiver when holding it to remove the adapter. Was it normal for you also during the initial days?
Ah printer. I almost went with DJI because of the ability to record a safety track. I decided to go with the Sony UWP-D21 because of the past frustrating issues I experienced connecting via Bluetooth on different jobs.
Sadly this microphone does not work with the european version of samsung phones that come with exynos chipset. DJI knews this since the DJI mic was released, but they are not willing to fix this issue.
Thanks for the long term review. I had a hard time matching the outdoor DJI mic sound with the indoor DJI mic sound. It was like night and day difference. Any idea what caused that? Did you (by accident) 'not' process the outdoor sound maybe?
It’s really hard to do noise reduction outside I don’t really recommend it so if anything, do a single band compressor and then add a little bit of EQ to get that match
@@OriginaldoBo Yeah, get it. But does that explain why your indoor DJI Mic test sounds so much better than the same mic outdoor? The outdoor sound was quite thin and not as pleasant to listen to compared to the same DJI mic indoor. I'm trying to decide if the DJI mic will be good for me, so I am mostly interested in the 'unedited' sound (to be able to hear what I will be getting) Thanks for the response btw.
Hey there. Appreciate your videos. I have a problem since I updated the firmware on the dji mic, I cannot switch between mono and stereo mode. It's stuck on mono. Any suggestions? Thanks much!
Can i keep the mic inside the charging case when not in use? Cause last time i use rode wireless go 2 i keep it inside the charging case the battery damage very fast like wanna explode already
Actually it seems it was not the firmware update, It seem like the DJI Mic cannot record stereo audio into the iPhone. If this is true it is a tragic flaw and I'm truly upset that I bought this system. Please tell me I'm wrong about this. Thank you.
Has anyone experienced a massive drop off in gain using the DJI transmitter as a standalone recorder? The first 10 minutes may be the +6 gain that I have it programmed for, but then suddenly the audio will be barely audible.
Hey man, any idea why it sounds terrible when clipped to my collar/neck but sounds great when in front of my mouth? Mines completely unusable and sounds muffled when clipped onto my collar facing my neck? Please help 😊
I’d honestly think it Has to do with the pick up pattern on these microphones I’ve noticed something very similar I try to always keep it lower or on my talents chest
@@OriginaldoBo do you think it’s best used with a wired lav mic? And also do you enhance the audio from it after, and if so what would you suggest to enhance it for a beginner? Thank you!

For this reason, I always have the transmitters record onboard safety tracks and I've become so used to the system's shortcomings (and suspicious that any alternative might be more or less the same in less than ideal conditions) that I bought a second kit.
@@alanoakley3242 in this case, I was only filming talking head videos, facing the receiver about 18" away. It was a faulty product for sure.
@@Sketchtool I did and they told me the only option was to refund it and purchase again through Amazon. I did that and received a new kit after all that nonsense. Now the glitch problem is gone, but one of the transmitters won't charge...
Great video! Wanted to order a handle, but there is no option for delivery to my country! ( Latvia )
you need a de-esser man, pops up a lot
Great to see some long term usage! I got it and it won't work with my phone ...Samsung Note 10+ ...I'm like a kid at christmas and researching new phones but trying to avoid an iphone lol ...Still waiting to hear from customer services to see if the OnePlus 11 will work :) if not Samsung S23 ultra I think
It worked for my Google pixel 7 pro. It was the first mic that would work with it
I'm looking into picking these up one thing i need to know is will they auto sync up if they disconnect.
I’m working on a proper hot shoe adapter that will not break
Great review! I have recently purchased this, also the colours in your talking head are incredible.
Thanks man appreciate that
What mic did you use in this video? Sounds great.
Senheiser MKE600
Wow those mics sound great ken. I was curious on how they would sound. Thanks 👊🏻
I love this mic! Just bought it! One issue though; when I attach it to the r5 on DJI rs3 gimbal if you move the gimbal into undertaking mode then the roll motor hits the receiver. Any suggestions?
You could try adding a cage and relocate the receiver
Thanks for the content.
Before buying the DJI Mic, I will be grateful if you share your negative experiences as well: did not you have any latency issues with video, echo issues with cabled mics, interference issues with lavaliers or cameras, compatibility issues with any cell phones or action cameras?
No didn’t have any real negatives since I’ve owned them
@@OriginaldoBo Thank you for the fast reply.
Very nice! Love the test on the distance.
Great review I’m have to pick one those Mic Grips up pretty cool…
Thanks. Which wireless system would you choose for exercises demo ? (nothing extreme)
I still find these super simplistic and easy to use
Yep, I had the same experience. My only complaint is that the receiver hot shoe mount doesn't work well if you use DJIs Extension Rod with a Pocket cam. I did purchase an extra hot shoe, trimmed it a bit to fit at a 90 degree angle so the receiver faces me (3.5mm output connected to the Pocket input). Now that I have a 3D printer...that's on my list of things to build. I see the Mic holder on Etsy with the pistol grip, do you have a version of the original "ABC Wide World of Sports" style of holder?
Yes working on that now
How tough you find the DJI mic? Did it ever fall while clipping on the shirt? Like accidentally falling off when handling the transmitter.
Haven’t had any issues with it
@@OriginaldoBo Thanks. How tough you find removing the adapters from the receiver? Sometimes, I feel I am putting too much force on the receiver when holding it to remove the adapter. Was it normal for you also during the initial days?
Very good but I will mention many of the many links below do not work.
Do you also have the simple, plain mic grip like in the video?
Great review, great mics, I really love them.
Finalizing the design on it
@@OriginaldoBo Looking forward to it! Also, shipping to Germany would be great.
Oh Ken; presentation was good too; Your game is strong and only getting better. 22:57
Where was that hiss coming from when you were hand holding the mic?
Printers running in the background
Ah printer. I almost went with DJI because of the ability to record a safety track. I decided to go with the Sony UWP-D21 because of the past frustrating issues I experienced connecting via Bluetooth on different jobs.
What about the skipping issues? Multiple people reported issues with skipping and had to send the units for service 😢
I haven’t had any issues, earlier units may of had issues mine have not
@@OriginaldoBo Ian little bit afraid to buy DJI because of this issues 😕 what do you think?
Dude, I literally just got these and was looking for a video from you
Is there a way to turn on/off transmitter recording from the receiver? And, is there a way to lock buttons on transmitter from receiver?
I'm trying to decide if the DJI mic will be good for me, so I am mostly interested in the 'unedited' sound (to be able to hear what I will be getting)
Thanks for the response btw.
Hey there. Appreciate your videos. I have a problem since I updated the firmware on the dji mic, I cannot switch between mono and stereo mode. It's stuck on mono. Any suggestions? Thanks much!
What a shame DJI admit it is not possible to hook up a quality lav like Sennheiser MKE2 or Sanken Cos11d due to interference.
The Rode LAV was pretty damn clean sounding.
Did you use the rode go lavalier or rode smart lav+?
What mic are you using for this video? From the beginning?
Senheiser MKE600
Can i keep the mic inside the charging case when not in use? Cause last time i use rode wireless go 2 i keep it inside the charging case the battery damage very fast like wanna explode already
Question - If I buy the Microphone w/ flag version, is the flag removable or no?
Flag slips on and off. 😎 the mic with out is the same as with
That mic adapter you have is pretty slick 👍
Thanks man!
Actually it seems it was not the firmware update, It seem like the DJI Mic cannot record stereo audio into the iPhone. If this is true it is a tragic flaw and I'm truly upset that I bought this system. Please tell me I'm wrong about this. Thank you.
Hi can you let me know what application you use for editing your audio from the DJI mic system
Adobe audition
Good long term review Ken
Has anyone experienced a massive drop off in gain using the DJI transmitter as a standalone recorder? The first 10 minutes may be the +6 gain that I have it programmed for, but then suddenly the audio will be barely audible.
wow.... i way prefer internal to the Rode LAV.... and I thought the Rodes were good!!
Thank you!
Really like your set!
Which mic are you using for this video.
