I'm using the third party charging case he mentioned for the Rode Wireless Go 2. It's really good, but it's great that DJI includes it in the box. It's a great selling point.
putting everything in the case like airpods is genius. It makes keeping everything together simpler and makes sure your mics are charged. I might pick one of these up!
Canada here - just got mine now, with latest firmware, all the issues (including record lock) are fixed. Tip for iOS users, if you use a USB to Lightning camera connector, you can record on your phone in stereo from the receiver.
13:37 this is RF Interference. This is only solved with shielding inside the actual product or by isolating the device from another wireless device and signal. Was the DJI receiver being used when recording this segment or was the transmitter being used as a recorder only? I was very keen to get the dji as backup mics on weddings but this might be the deal breaker. Already tried the go2 and the clipping and having to use an app to transfer files was a very bad experience. @@LilSassy currently trying the lensgo 348c. I'm probably going to buy this to replace the Sony wireless microphone. The case makes things so much simpler. Plus the safety tracks and internal recording are a big bonus. The Sony has the advantage of being able to transmit audio through the MI shoe instead of a 3.5mm cable, but it doesn't give you any control over the input levels if you use the MI shoe. Plus the Sony just completely cuts out audio if the noise goes beyond a certain decibel level (e.g. a noisy vehicle exhaust passes you)
The Tascam DR 10l or 10cs also has a safety track, lasts all day on one lithium batter and a micro SD card. Hook up to talent, run included lav to talent's shirt, good to go.

@@scottslotterbeck3796 yeah I nearly bought the tascam before. But after using a wireless mic that feeds audio directly into the camera, I don't want to return to the hassle of syncing audio and video. Sometimes it takes a long time for the auto sync to work out where everything goes and sometimes it just won't sync at all and I have to do it manually. At least with the DJI, you have the best of both worlds. The audio is fed straight into the camera but you also have internal recording in the mic itself and safety track support. I know the rode system also has those features but it doesn't include the handy case that protects and charges the system.
They both sound really good, I thought the Rode Go2 sounded better at first, but then couldn't decide. So I would just go with the DJI because the recording is backed up which is really nice, the mics themselves can be charged via usb-C and look nicer.

I also wish the mic connected wirelessly to the DJI action 2 like the Pocket 2. The pocket 2 mic setup was a way better setup for quick vlogging. Just turn on the mic and it connects automatically, no Tx/Rx. These mics looks better for using on my main camera.

Sounds good, but the DJI did sound slightly muddier. The high pitched noise sounds like unshielded microphone cable getting close to a transmitter. Try testing this by bringing the microphone cable near the transmitter to see if the noise comes and goes as you move the cable closer and further. I suspect that the DJI isn’t shielded or compensating or has it’s antenna in a position that will cause that issue more frequently than the Rode.
Note that both external lav mics were by Rode (SmartLav+ ?). It may be that DJI relies more on shielded cables, and Rode relies more on 'balanced' +/- signals and 'common-mode rejection'. DJI is missing a market opportunity by not making and selling a matched lav mic. Surprising for them to miss an accessory out! There are plenty of 3rd parties that would make to order cheap, for them to mark up the price. There may be timing issues if both the mics and the recorder are 'smart' and try to adapt between the 3.5mm jack specifications (TRS/TRRS). Sometimes just re-plugging or hot/cold plugging makes a difference.
I thought I really liked the Wireless Go 2...but the DJI mic somehow just feels a TINY bit fuller. And it gets rid of SO much background noise - like the bike chain.

Yeah. I really hope it doesn't suffer from the same issues I heard people with the Rode Go 2 suffer from (especially with Sony cameras). I own a Rode Go 1 and a7S III and I'm constantly looking for videos like this to decide what I should get: DJI or Rode Go 2. The problem I have is that whenever the Receiver is close to the camera's mic input jack there's really annoying interference captured. You have to move it to the grip on the right side to get it to stop (easy enough if you have a cage with a cold shoe there and a longer cable but not ideal). Partially a fault of the camera's lack of good shielding, but if you play your cards right and buy from a place that has a return policy, you can just test it day 1 and see. If the shielding is crap, send it back. Sooooo, I don't know if DJI would want half of their products returned or something, or are they imagining it's only going to be used on action cameras? However... what we saw and heard in this video was that there were problems "sometimes"... So is that still shielding? Wouldn't those problems appear like every time? Does DJI have any plans to add timecode sync? Then if you download the audio directly from the mic unit it can auto sync back to the video. =) Would be cool to be able to sync several DJI cameras and mics with a timecode sync system like Tentacle Sync has made.

Thank you Mr potato jet now I am more conflicted. I can’t tell the difference between the two (audio quality wise) but we are big fan of DJI (for drones). I somehow expected the rode mic to be better. I love the charging box of DJI mic though. I work with GH5 mostly. Anyone here can guide me for the best wireless mic for GH5?
It’s amazing that these mic manufacturers are still not baking this stuff in as 32-bit float. The Zoom F2 has literally no competition and it bothers me because I like DJI and I love Rode. Also, the hum is a crazy deal-breaker for my use case.
Zoom F2 seems really nice, but it's just a recorder, not a transmitter. So it's not competing, different product. I want to be able to monitor the sound when I record it, lavalier can ruffle on cloth.
This is exactly why I wanted the rode wireless go 2 mics. All my recent videos on my personal RUclips channel are me and Katie and our corgi hiking through Colorado. Having 2 wireless mics makes a world of difference as we are talking, and lol panting up high elevation gains. I have experienced some high hiss noise and sometimes one of the mics either dropping or being accidentally muted. But overall I as I continue shooting hiking vids, guides in this vlog format I will always have two wireless mics with me.
Hi. Really great video. I’ve noticed that the DJI has an input jack. I was wondering if it’s possible to use it to getting the stereo audio from a monitor system and transmit it to a camera while recording. . Thanks in advance.. 🙌🏼
You can input anything to the transmitters over the input 3.5mm jack. Sometimes there will be interference, but in general anything that comes into the 3.5mm jack on the transmitter will he send to the receiver into the camera. I don't think it will be stereo, only mono.
Really great. Enjoyed every minute of that! As much as I've loved using my Sennheiser EW-112 G3's over the last few years, I think it's time to upgrade!

Still on 6:57.... on my headphones no difference is notices BUT.... if you are not separated and she accidently crashes... With wireless go you are still save - there is backup on the mic it self... happened to me several times since I wanted the high pitch protected and this options kills the option to record separately... Yes better to wait looks like they might have rushed this product to market.
@@mazzdacon2134 Yeah. It feels like they did something there alongside the Action Cam, since they were announced together, but the Action Cam taking most of the spotlight.
"Common guys, we need good audio for this camera"
"But it's not ready yet"
"JUST DO IT!" (Shia LaBeouf)
I like how Kari acts like she's interested about the tech jargon. To my ears, they sound very similar with the Rode having a slightly fuller sound.
Everyone: what else can Dylan do
Dylan: Climbs roof for a shot
Just for posterity.... I laughed when you said, "I can talk AS LOUDLY AS I WANT!" while coupled with the pose, and the Nick at Night Smile. Carry on.
Didn't even mention the fact that you can monitor audio right out of the receiver! As someone who uses Sony cameras with a mic input and no headphone out, that is a huge feature!
The Rode does this too
@@AaronNovak1 So the huge range of the DJI means you could use them like an intracom or walkie-talkies when cycling? (one-way, at least) That answers one of my questions well.
Often a couple or group will get split by a red light or a climb ... no waiting around.
@@ericd7709 I’m sure there are cheaper better options for that.
3:21 I have never seen a drive-thru Subway in metro-Atlanta, that I know of. I usually don't look for a Subway while on vacation either so I wouldn't care to notice it while being out. But I wish I had this.
Gene!!! Are you planning to continue with your vlog channel? I miss it so much!
Yooooo...Dylan killed that commercial. Get that man a job! Thanks for the review
I remember when Gene used to have a vlog channel, old good times
Damn I didn't realise it was 3 months since he uploaded.
I miss it too :(
it didn't pay the bills, but the content was awesome!
...and now he's got affiliate links. Happy Turkey Day...I guess....
this is the best sponsored segment i've seen on the whole youtube universe. thank you for being on top of things
Oh man. I already bought 3 sets of the Rode Wireless IIs. Love the form factor and charging case of these. I occasionally get the high pitched whine on them. I think it might have to do with proximity to electrical wires, but I could be wrong.
How do you like the rode wireless II thus far??
Just curious, I’m leaning toward buying over the DJI
@@PassionPainNDemonsStreetwear I like the DJI set better so far. Just got them in the mail last week. The DJIs are sleeker, smaller and I have had no interference issues in the two shoots I've used them on. The charging case is awesome too.
@@SongstaForLife really? Wow
My main concern is the interface with DJI
Watched a few reviews that mentioned DJI wireless mics pick up alot of interference especially around technology/ Devices
Do you encounter interference at all with the rode?
@@PassionPainNDemonsStreetwear Lots of interference with the Rodes. My suspicion is it has something to do with either cell towers or electrical wires.
Next step....integrated 32 bit recording.
Can you purchase additional transmitters and pair them? Eg 3 trans on 1 rec?
Or Pocket 2 Creative Combo + this kit?
Purchased before you even finished the review. Wow, I’m stoked on these. Hope they figure out that side button though, I have people put their transmitters in their pockets and it does worry me that they could accidentally turn it off. Maybe DJI could do a software update where you have to click twice and hold to turn off instead of just one solid hold… something where it’s difficult to replicate by accident in a pocket.
Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to you and Kari!!!
PotatoJet: This thing is the best thing since sliced bread
PotatoJet one week later: Oh, that old thing? Na, that got a ton of bugs I don't like
🤣 - The Steve Jobs of Camera Gear
Seeing as I just bought the Go 2 I’ll be sticking with that for a while. I don’t think I’m missing out on much though.
I’m with you
Very good Video. I have a german Motovlog (Bikes an Emobility) and are very happy about the DJI Mic. My Rode W2 goes to Ebay. Best from Berlin, Boris
I've been debating buying my first ever microphone for my mirrorless camera. I'm a photographer but really been looking to get into video. I think this DJI mic might be what I buy.
I watched this around thanksgiving and then again on Christmas 😂 I can’t wait to get the DJI mics when they are released! The range is crazy on these things.
Does DJI have any plans to add timecode sync? Then if you download the audio directly from the mic unit it can auto sync back to the video. =) Would be cool to be able to sync several DJI cameras and mics with a timecode sync system like Tentacle Sync has made.
I swear, this is the only way to make me watch the sponsor section 3 or 4 times - using Dylan. I bet we'll see him in a movie pretty soon. People need that kind of humor. "Hot Pockets all day" was the best!
The Rode sound better DJI sounds really good
Seems like a great kit. Both have amazing sound during a bike ride even.
The Wireless Go 2 has tons of problems from the battery to the updates. I won't recommend it.
At 4:38 to 4:41 is you hear the high pitch/low volume RF buzz in the DJI system? Shielding of the unit needs to be better!
Really enjoy all of your reviews and they way you involve Kerry and Dillion. Keep up the great work.
just ordered 30 minutes ago 🤣🤣🤣
Very in depth review as always. You inspire me to get better at doing reviews!
It’s amazing that these mic manufacturers are still not baking this stuff in as 32-bit float. The Zoom F2 has literally no competition and it bothers me because I like DJI and I love Rode.
Also, the hum is a crazy deal-breaker for my use case.
size
Zoom F2 seems really nice, but it's just a recorder, not a transmitter. So it's not competing, different product. I want to be able to monitor the sound when I record it, lavalier can ruffle on cloth.
@@SeaUrchinFilms That’s a great argument.
The Tentacle Sync Track E records 32 bit audio. Their timecode sync system is pretty nice.
HOLY SHXT, the DJI and Rode sound IDENTICAL !!!!!!
C’mon dude. Almost there! A million subs. Wish you get there soon.
You are literally the only youtuber I don't skip the sponsorship part. Always so creative and funny it's a pleasure to actually watch it 😁✌🏼
I really enjoyed the set up of this video! Loved how you braided the review and showcasing into a vlog style video!!
13:58 so did they fix it?
It's rare for me not to skip the sponsor bit on videos... I'm happy I didn't skip this one!
That was really funny @4:03 I did not see that coming. Whyyy hahahaha 😆
The thumbs up is for the excellent “message from our sponsor “. Dylan just nailed it.
I just have to say... that was the BEST sponsor explanation I've ever heard!!! lol
suddenly my mondays seem a lot brighter, that ad was hilarious.
Hi, thank you for your great review! 🙏 In minute 13:00 to 14:00 you are talking about some issues and wanted to let us know in your description, when their would be fixed and I would be happy to hear from you when they are, thx! Best regards Swen
Still on 6:57.... on my headphones no difference is notices BUT.... if you are not separated and she accidently crashes... With wireless go you are still save - there is backup on the mic it self... happened to me several times since I wanted the high pitch protected and this options kills the option to record separately... Still you have the audio on the mics stored.
Always such un depth but easy to understand reviews!! Hope they fix those issues especially when hooked up to the A7!
dude I love Dylan doing these ad spots!!!
Well dang, I think this will be one of my nest upgrades. We have a bunch of bike rides coming up and this would be perfect!! Thank for sharing. And your hiking thought sounded so much like us.
lol the Monday ad, just epic ;)
10:06 does it work with a Insta360 as well via USB-C ?
This was a damn smart way to get me to listen the entire sponsor segment
Good review! I was just looking at the other jobbie (Rode) too... I think it is the DJI, for the win! They call the puffy thing a 'dead cat'. These sponsor bits... HAHA!
This has got to be the best sponsored segment I've ever heard in a review video. And on a roof too!
Happy Thanksgiving, Gene! Love your vids. 🤘🏼
15:51 oh man, imagine having to go back and get the camera after that haha
Wow, this these are crushing it. If they can patch the record to lock and unlock by pressing a couple buttons together, I'll totally be adding these to my kit.
Just watched this - great video review - went to buy it and it's not out in UK until March 2022. Keep up the good work!
The only sponsorship part I can't skip
Ooo exciting and I missed your videos! These mics look so easy! 🙌🏻
Thank you for the awesome DJI review (and comparison to RODE). I returned the first GO II set because everyone was out of SC15 cords everywhere, but now that I'm about to buy again, the DJI seem much better. The one week I had the GO II I kept experiencing interference, even at 10-15 feet or so it did not like it if I was holding the receiver even a slight bit
Dylan is the best at sponsored ads, its the only ones i watch lol
I like the way that all wireless mic have a problem of loosing signal. The backup audio memory is essential.
