This is a great review! So glad you mentioned that you still CAN clip with 32bit. I feel like this is a common misconception. I found that this is true especially in loud environments where it's easy to push too much air into the capsule (say, in a busy street) while someone is speaking. Better than 24 for sure, but will largely depend on the mic you use.
Thanks so much for the kind words! You're totally right with the clipping thing too. It's less about "if" you can clip and it's more about "where" in the chain of things you're clipping. Mic capsules can only take so much and eventually, we all output to 16 or 24 bit so you have to make sure you've recovered what you want to recover!
Great job Dunna! just need some clarifications: 1. Could we use 32bit float together with timecode as you mentioned the 32 bit float doesnt work with the recording on receiver but timecode does need the receiver to be plugged in to the camera. 2. Could we auto record with 32 bit float whenever we press record on camera? Is there a setting to do this?
Great review! Thanks for sharing! How do you find the audio compares to the dji mic? I'm very tempted to switch. I really don't like the shiny exterior though - it reflects pretty badly!
I could go with either one without really noticing much to be honest. These kind of built on transmitter mics or even lav mics generally don't sound super great because of size and placement and always require some kind of extra work to get them sounding how I like (compared to a nicely place shotgun mic). You're very right about the shiny front, I feel like we'll see a lot of people with a lot of black gaff tape soon haha.
Good review! Have a Davinci Resolve question: you've synced the footage with the audio; and it shows linked in the Edit page. Does synced audio also shows up linked in the Cut page, and more importantly: in the source tape window? So when you scroll your footage, the clips have the linked audio?
Thank you for this in-depth review! As I am looking to upgrade from my current Rode Wireless ME setup, this was very helpful. I mainly like the ability to record directly to the transmitter, especially when vlogging using the DJI Osmo since I have nowhere to really secure the receiver without blocking the gimbal…
Nice looking kit. One thing I noticed right away at 4:05 is the gloss finish reflects the light as you move around. It becomes a bit of a distraction. WHen I first saw it, my eyes were drawn to it, then I couldn't stop watching the reflection as you moved around.
Thank you sir. Also please guide me .Can I use these mics replacing a hands free wireless lavalier mic which has transmitter, and a receiver .That way to address from a stage, like a pastor teaching his congregation during church meetings . ? Please confirm.
I think this is an amazing wireless microphone for the price. I also have DJI Mic and Hollyland Lark Max, but I think that out of the box the sound of RWPro are more full and pleasant, for my voice. I love it much more than others, even they are all fantastic products. I love more the solution of Hollyland Lark Max in term of Display and touch future and the solutions of connecting to camera/mobile/computer of the DJI Mic. Another good video! 😉
Bummed cuz I picked up the Hollyland kit about 2 months ago, but don't think I will upgrade at this time. Maybe next time, or if I damage them lol. Great video as always, Dunna!
I hear you, thats probably just GAS talking though. In the end, they're both great units and there's definitely nothing wrong with the Hollyland ones! If you're talking about the Lark Max, it still has some advantages like size and the noise reduction too!
I heard that the system when you hold down certain buttons, it goes through a menu with different settings, I am totally blind, so I’m wondering if it would be easy to figure out the menu. One thing I do wish is that road and other companies like it could make these systems talk so that when you go through the menu, it tells you what is there. The Zoom corporation just did something. I never thought it would do and that is they came out with a new series called, the Zoom essential series and they have added accessibility and voice prompts to it. This is the first time that any professional audio company has done that, it’s about time they did something like that and i’m glad, sided people aren’t the only group who are interested in professional equipment like this.
I did a test of them for you to hear in the video. Personally, I think the onboard mics sounded a bit better. Probably because they aren’t stuck being as tiny as a Lav.
Hello. I have found this channel by luck and love it. Can you please advise if you can 'recover' audio in 32bit within Premier Pro? I have just been doing some tests and I'm still clipping massively and can't seem to get the results other people and yourself have. I would appreciate your help. Thanks.
Greetings.Thank you for your video. Please guide me , regarding the use of Rode Wireless PRO, as wireless hands free mic for public address for mega church meetings etc. where preacher and interpreter stands together with their mobiles etc. 1) Rode Wireless PRO being GHz,will our mobiles,wi-fi etc.interfear with it's signals, so that the voice gets affected?( Not saying about feed back, but about interferences from other signals ) 2) Can Rode Wireless PRO receiver be connected directly to the sound amplifier or is it possible only through a mixer ? PLEASE LET ME KNOW,IF IT IS FINE TO GO FOR IT FOR MY SPECIFIC USE ?
Thanks for the great review! I have a question. When you set your rec button of a TX on top as 'always' what happens if you press the rec button (not Ø button)? Does it stop the recording or it doesn't stop until you put the tx back to the charging case? I watched many videos and it seems like you can disable Ø button, but for rec button on top, you can only toggle between either 'always' or 'Manual'. Doesn't that mean you can still accidentally stop the recording when you hit rec button on top even if you set it to 'always'?
Great breakdown and explanation…..honestly I have been super happy with the Sony auto mode…I don’t even have to worry about a lot of post editing work. I use it on my K3M & ECM-B1M. 32bit is great but more work in post.
Great review ! I just bought the RWpro, still have a question after testing. When I import the 32bit float track into Final Cut Pro, the track is so quit, like -30db and I always need the compressor plugin + volume to lift the decibels to go to -12. I had the same problem with the DJI pocket 3 mic (32bit). Do you have any advice for me ? Thx !
I completely missed that it ships with a pair of Rode lav mics that do factor into the higher cost, relative to the DJI or the Hollyland Max (currently available for $269 with a pair of their lav mics), even though the internal 32bit recording for reduced audio spike clipping and maybe the timecode are the real value here. Expect DJI and Hollyland to follow suit.
Can I still use the 32 bit float backup file when transmitting to the camera? Assuming of course that I press the record button? I want to transmit to the camera, but I want the option of using the 32 bit float file for the entirety of the recording if the audio levels don't sound great. I realize people use the 32 bit file when the 24 bit recording loses signal to the camera, but I want the option of using the entire 32 bit internal recording, after transmitting to the camera. Someone help me out!
HI DUNNA , DO YOU EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE EYE STRAIN AFTER USING SONY A7IV ? MANY OF MY COLLEAGUES AND CLIENTS HAVE SAID THAT THEY EXPERIENCE A LOT OF EYE STRAIN AFTER USING OR WATCHING VIDEOS SHOT WITH CAMERAS LIKE A7IV, A7C,etc. THEY ALSO COMPLAIN ABOUT SWOLLEN AND PUFFY EYES DUE TO THE EYE STRAIN CAUSED BY THESE CAMERAS. ANY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE? CAN SONY ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM IF IT EXISTS?
No I’ve never had this issue at all with any of my cameras. Also, I would recommend removing your caps lock before leaving comments. I know people find it a bit annoying and the youtube spam blockers may hide your comments.
Hi Duanna, I'm an amateur filmmaker and I have a budget of 150 dollars. Can you recommend me a shotgun microphone that will give me the best performance on the market. (outdoor shooting and longer distance performance) I have "sennheiser mke 600" in mind but due to the very bad exchange rate in my country I can't exceed 150 dollars. And I wanted to ask you because I respect your opinion on this subject.
That’s a tricky price point unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot that I’m super familiar with around $150. I think you were on the right track with the mke600, you may want to look into the deity smic or the rode ntg2 as well but they’re still above your budget so you’d need to find a used deal or something like that. If you’re okay with a 3.5mm jack microphone, I really like the rode videomic go ii and it’s within your budget and sounds great but has no xlr. I wish I had better news for you but hopefully this was somewhat helpful.

As a pro audio engineer I giggle every time I hear people get excited about 32 bit float!
Very well explained. The best so far!
Finally, a locking connector! I couldn’t believe basically none of the other options ever offered that.
Right!? So necessary
The iPhone magsafe hack was what no other video has covered that I came here for! Thank you!
