It is so weird to see how a McDonald’s kitchen operates now. A one man band handling the duties of what used to be four workstations staffed by four or five people. Bun toasting, the dress table, fish/chicken/nugget fry/dress station, and wrap/expo station. That’s not to mention the kitchen staff we dedicated to grill and fries. I feel for the employees in this setup during a rush. Back in the day, our small army would churn out orders quickly when things got crazy and it was still a challenge. I don’t know how anyone could be expected to fill orders quickly in a setup like this. That’s got to be crazy challenging.
Well, it’s actually no different. Most McDonalds have two sides to their kitchen table set-up. When I managed a McDonalds it was customary for a well-trained cook (usually an assistant or shift manager) to staff the side of the table this guy is working in this video. It’s meant for a max of 2 workers. The opposite side shown in this video is the side where we had one person on buns, one on vegetables, and one on meats and wrapping. There is also a grill and fry worker. Furthermore, we would only open the side this gentleman is working in this video when we would encounter our daily rush hours such as lunch and dinner, then we shut it down and continue working only the primary side of the table.
That’s why I could never be cut out for food service especially fast food, they have you doing everything all of the time. I would shut down and cry tbh
In australia there is about 5 people working on the burger creation line and usually 2 people working at the fries station and 1 lonely person at each drive thru window Im only a customer and the Cnr Coburns Road and Barries Road Maccas is really slow with their orders mabye its because if the manager who tf knows because im only a bloddy customer 🤣

def a shocker to me to see one person doing so much, I think most people don't think mcdonalds would require much thought or skill but it looks like youre working pretty hard.
It's kind of overwhelming to new people / outsiders but after a year or two everything becomes muscle memory because everything is always placed in the same position. When it becomes truly hard is when the restaurant is understaffed compared to the number of customers and one person has to fill in for multiple positions at once. I used to work in a really busy mcd and during my last few months after 4 years of working as a student this was what caused me to quit (alongside being able to find a job in the field I was studying in). It's not that I couldn't handle it, I was really fast and it was actually fun for me, I liked working like that, but my nervous system couldn't keep up. I had weird symptoms like random twitching (kinda like tourettes), I would go to bed and my leg would randomly kick occasionally, things like that.
Same here I pretty much don’t eat any fast food but I do enjoy watching this channel it’s kinda relaxing seeing how everything is put together like the equipment and utensils they use are so efficient McDonald’s is genius😊

This job is hella chill if you get mature adults as coworkers who just let you do your job. The last Mcdonalds I worked at everyone inside was slowly going insane because it was super tiny, it was inside of a gas station, you couldn't move or work without touching other people. This might work in Japan or in an actual small business, but it doesn't work at a busy intersection. I remember one of the cooks used to stuff the UHC trays so high they would scrape the dirt and grime off the top of the UHC thing that wasn't cleaned enough. I would always cook my own lunches because of that, I would never let anyone else make my food at these places, let alone willfully go there to eat.
I recently started working at McDonald's this week and it's so weird watching it through someone else's POV. At least you have more space. Thankfully we don't have the annoying beeping machines, we only have screaming microwaves/ovens
@@Arthur-0000I recently started at McDonald's as well, you have to be good at doing things fast paced, I'm not sure where you're at on the spectrum but if you can handle constantly beeping that's a good start, also you will learn pretty early on you can't let you're ocd get to you, nothing is going to be perfect and realistically if you're doing youre job right you're not going to be doing things perfectly. Also you're training will be them sending you back to a station and having someone (most likely a high teenager) teach you loosely and everything else you have to learn on you're own. Overall if you're autistic I wouldn't recommend the job but then again it might be perfect for you.
@@Arthur-0000hi, I'm on the spectrum as well and between the age of 15 and till the end of my last degree which was in teaching I worked part time at different places for example the supermarket, pizza hut, McDonald's and as a nanny. This was many years ago and at the time while I struggled with certain things socially I wasn't diagnosed until I was 32 which was a great relief because everything made more sense to me. I think the following are things for you to think about. Can you greet people, if eye contact is hard the trick is to look just above someone's eyes. Can you communicate basic information and recieve it for example in the kitchen if you need chicken nuggets can you call that out. Can you multi-task once you have learnt each process for example what goes into each burger without looking at a cheat sheet while assembling two other types of burgers. I know for myself the repeated actions of being on one station in the kitchen, routine table clearing, taking orders etc was methodical so I was in my comfort zone. I think you should give it a go so to help you get a job I suggest you practice answers for possible interview questions, know the menu well, the companies vision and mission statements, prepare a basic CV and if you get an interview remember that I did and I believe you can do it as well. I know I'm a complete stranger but if you have any questions or if you do go for it let me know how you get on. 😊

This is incredibly satiating. I think a majority of people look down on fast food as a means of employment, but this is great work. It actually makes me want to leave my job in manufacturing and work at a McDonald’s. Good job.

I'm deaf but that's pretty cool to watch this. I saw what appeared to be mcrispy burger, which is my favorite choice since 90s.. I think this is pretty amazing to see how it's made or being prepared to serve customers.
I used to work at a small-town McDonalds for 5 years it was my first ever job I was an Opener for grill and prep and Maintenace depending on call outs. I remember in our store it was a little behind where the kitchen was 1 whole unit with the friers and grill and line all in 1. countless times did I run the whole show in the back due to either call outs or no call no shows, I didn't hate it as it was a decent job and the flexibility at the time was worth it. I since moved on and work a union job and moved away but I never forget all the times I've had, and I still can make anything on the menu and do everything as if I never left. My Gm was the best boss I ever had, he was a gm for 40 years and he understood workers and family situations and could relate. He retired a month before I was leaving, and I remember shaking his hand and telling him how much he helped me. He always gave me Life Advice about how I needed to get out of here while I was young as he said I had a world to explore and far better opportunities.

I used to work at McDonald’s for nearly 7 years and got to a crew trainer position. I was even offered a manager position once. People have no idea how hard we work to make their food. I remember doing all of this, plus fryers, grills, prep, and deep cleaning the filters for the fryers or changing the oil if I'm lucky. This dude has everything down pat, my only nitpick being that technically the tags are supposed to be put on the left-hand corner of the wrapper (at least that was what I was taught).
I have to tell you, I've got mad respect for this guy. He does his job, he does it well, day in and day out. No questions asked, no explanation given. Just dependable. Hey corporate, you need to promote this guy. ASAP. Mesmerizing.

Mickey Ds is number 1 fast food restaurant by a long shot. The most consistent place in history, at least the ones around my area. There is no shame in doing a job no matter what it is, respect fast food workers!
McDonald's was my first job (Part-time) whilst I was studying in college. College didn't actually do much for me but I think working at McDonald's taught me a lot more about life. This was when I was 16 back in 2015 and I worked there for about 1.5 years. This job is actually much more challenging than people think. You make it look easy in this video but I can tell you've been working here a while and it seems like you enjoy what you do! There are so many things to do at McDonald's people have no idea lol.
facts, was my first job during college too and it was some of the most stressfull times in my life but in a weird way, i kind of miss it, it was satisfying coming home sometimes, and cleaning/resetting the grill, or even just dishwashing , was kind of relaxing , but only once i had become comfortable at it, the first few weeks, i was making a lot of mistakes and making my managers mad lol.
Stephen, can you do a video someday where you go over what all the various sounds mean? Like the do-do-do-do-do sound and the cowbell sound, and the others?
Every beeping noise is a kind of timer. One for the frier, one for the grill for the meat, and other for the fries. The grill rings when the top part comes down or up so people don't burn themselves. The cowbell is for meat (most often quarter pounder) cause theyre supposed to be freshly cooked meat, so its there to notify it needs to be dropped.
I was shown your videos before the Christmas season and it's so interesting to see how you guys prep and assemble everything behind the scenes! The pace you showed in this video is similar to how I deal with being a cashier in my job; it's SO stressful when you're single handedly dealing with everything yourself. Props to you Stephen! Also, I love and hate these videos because I crave McDonald's more often than not now lol.
I worked at McDonald’s when I was a teen and was so mortified when I’d see kids from school come in and eat. Watching this as a 31 year old now restaurant manager I realize how silly I was! Honest work is honest work!

It's definitely a strong connection between our emotions and the foods we choose to consume think about it. Just as certain foods can uplift your spirit and promote a sense of well-ness on the flip side. there are also foods that can exacerbate negative emotions such as anger based on dietary choices

When I was a swing manager at my McDs I would hate days like this because you knew you wouldn’t need a full staff so you had to decide who and where to cut and hope you still had enough people to cover.
As someone who worked full time at McDs back in the early 1990s, it got old real quick when a manager would send people home and an hour later 2 buses would pull into the lot at 10:30pm full of youth baseball kids. I worked at McDs for 3 years and found the core crew we had was worth working around.
I like how minimalist it looks, not a LOT of food displayed, just whatever is necessary is put out. Like there are always only a few nuggets, or the crispy chicken, they only make it when its needed, they dont make like a huge pan of them to be wasted. Cant help feel like Mcdonalds is very careful about being stingy with what gets cooked yet.

Why do McDonald's fryers seem to constantly beep with different melodies and cadences? I know Henny Penny has the ability to propose filter cycles after so many cook cycles, but there seem to be many more alarms that constantly occur. @StephenPatula, can you do a video of where all the beeping comes from? Like, which pieces of equipment make specific sounds in your kitchen?
Most of the beeps are from the fryers, sounds like the ones used for fries in this vid. The one thats happening all the time is most likely it requesting the jib to checked, the moderate paced one is it requesting duty, which is when you shake the fries to make sure they don't clumbp, and the fast beeps are when the item is ready to be pulled from the fryer
@@HighLordComedian Also, one of the other fryer beeps is usually about auto filtering the vat to remove floating bits of breading. Could also be replacing the filter pad if it hasn't been done in a while (Changes store to store)
As a sous chef who has been in the food service industry for around 25 years now, although the closest thing to fast food I've done was working at and eventually managing a Quiznos and later a Subway, I still find it extremely impressive to see how McDonalds is the fast food industry standard when it comes to speed and efficiency. It's truly a beautiful thing to see a particular franchise being run to perfection, as it is built for and intended to be run. Great pizza concepts do this extremely well too, and I'm fortunate to still be able to make some incredible brick oven pies at the restaurant I currently work for in Little Rock, AR. It seems like most in my profession wouldn't enjoy POV videos like this of others in this industry, as the mere sound of a ticket machine gives me anxiety, and tends to haunt my dreams.... LOL... but frankly I've always enjoyed watching videos of highly competent and capable employees doing their jobs effectively, and it should definitely give people some insight into what makes this business model work so well. It's also oddly relaxing, in an ASMR sorta way, to watch this content -- so well done all around!

I worked at mcdonalds in australia from 2015-2018. I miss the camaraderie and the (sometimes) simplistic nature of the job. In rush hours it was stressful, but also satisfying if your team was prepared for it. I started on front counter, then did drive thru, and made my way to the kitchen eventually. I came to love the structure and processes in the kitchen. I loved doing overnights for a while, but one night at 3am we had an armed robbery which shook me up. I left not too long after. It was crazy how worked up customers would get over mcdonalds though. Like one guy threatened to find out which car was mine and smash all the windows... all because I misheard his coffee order as medium size instead of large. His partner in the passenger seat was so embarassed. Even though I love my job now, where I don't have to deal with the stresses of fast food, I often wish me and the others i worked with could go back to that maccas and do another shift together. Just to relive it for a while.

As someone who works in Del Taco it’s crazy how different McOdnald’s is adn especially just one person making the food. In the weekend it’s just me making all the food and prep as well, so i’ll be making guac in the back then go to the taco bar and make some burritos or burgers then if i’m lucky go finish my guac unless i hear the ding which means someone’s in the drive-through. You seem so calm and not stressed out at all when making order after order, can’t imagine lol

Man so many memories I was a shift manager for 7 years back in the early 90s. A closer. Miss that job it was a pain in the butt at times but had so much fun with my co workers

I'm deaf but that's pretty cool to watch this. I saw what appeared to be mcrispy burger, which is my favorite choice since 90s.. I think this is pretty amazing to see how it's made or being prepared to serve customers.

I used to work at a small-town McDonalds for 5 years it was my first ever job I was an Opener for grill and prep and Maintenace depending on call outs. I remember in our store it was a little behind where the kitchen was 1 whole unit with the friers and grill and line all in 1. countless times did I run the whole show in the back due to either call outs or no call no shows, I didn't hate it as it was a decent job and the flexibility at the time was worth it. I since moved on and work a union job and moved away but I never forget all the times I've had, and I still can make anything on the menu and do everything as if I never left. My Gm was the best boss I ever had, he was a gm for 40 years and he understood workers and family situations and could relate. He retired a month before I was leaving, and I remember shaking his hand and telling him how much he helped me. He always gave me Life Advice about how I needed to get out of here while I was young as he said I had a world to explore and far better opportunities.

I used to work at McDonald’s for nearly 7 years and got to a crew trainer position. I was even offered a manager position once. People have no idea how hard we work to make their food. I remember doing all of this, plus fryers, grills, prep, and deep cleaning the filters for the fryers or changing the oil if I'm lucky. This dude has everything down pat, my only nitpick being that technically the tags are supposed to be put on the left-hand corner of the wrapper (at least that was what I was taught).
I have to tell you, I've got mad respect for this guy. He does his job, he does it well, day in and day out. No questions asked, no explanation given. Just dependable. Hey corporate, you need to promote this guy. ASAP. Mesmerizing.

I've always found it interesting the differences between our McChickens. What you guys call a McChicken we in Canada would call a Jr Chicken

yeah the mc chicken in america is different to the ones in Australia, we use the quarter bun and it gets its own clam instead of the wrapping paper

McDonald's was my first job (Part-time) whilst I was studying in college. College didn't actually do much for me but I think working at McDonald's taught me a lot more about life. This was when I was 16 back in 2015 and I worked there for about 1.5 years. This job is actually much more challenging than people think. You make it look easy in this video but I can tell you've been working here a while and it seems like you enjoy what you do! There are so many things to do at McDonald's people have no idea lol.
facts, was my first job during college too and it was some of the most stressfull times in my life but in a weird way, i kind of miss it, it was satisfying coming home sometimes, and cleaning/resetting the grill, or even just dishwashing , was kind of relaxing , but only once i had become comfortable at it, the first few weeks, i was making a lot of mistakes and making my managers mad lol.
Stephen, can you do a video someday where you go over what all the various sounds mean? Like the do-do-do-do-do sound and the cowbell sound, and the others?

Every beeping noise is a kind of timer. One for the frier, one for the grill for the meat, and other for the fries. The grill rings when the top part comes down or up so people don't burn themselves. The cowbell is for meat (most often quarter pounder) cause theyre supposed to be freshly cooked meat, so its there to notify it needs to be dropped.
You want THIS guy making your food. Well done sir. Very entertaining stuff. First time here and not the last!

I worked at McDonald’s when I was a teen and was so mortified when I’d see kids from school come in and eat. Watching this as a 31 year old now restaurant manager I realize how silly I was! Honest work is honest work!

When I was a swing manager at my McDs I would hate days like this because you knew you wouldn’t need a full staff so you had to decide who and where to cut and hope you still had enough people to cover.
As someone who worked full time at McDs back in the early 1990s, it got old real quick when a manager would send people home and an hour later 2 buses would pull into the lot at 10:30pm full of youth baseball kids. I worked at McDs for 3 years and found the core crew we had was worth working around.
What other jobs do you work at
I like how minimalist it looks, not a LOT of food displayed, just whatever is necessary is put out. Like there are always only a few nuggets, or the crispy chicken, they only make it when its needed, they dont make like a huge pan of them to be wasted. Cant help feel like Mcdonalds is very careful about being stingy with what gets cooked yet.

Why do McDonald's fryers seem to constantly beep with different melodies and cadences? I know Henny Penny has the ability to propose filter cycles after so many cook cycles, but there seem to be many more alarms that constantly occur. @StephenPatula, can you do a video of where all the beeping comes from? Like, which pieces of equipment make specific sounds in your kitchen?
Most of the beeps are from the fryers, sounds like the ones used for fries in this vid. The one thats happening all the time is most likely it requesting the jib to checked, the moderate paced one is it requesting duty, which is when you shake the fries to make sure they don't clumbp, and the fast beeps are when the item is ready to be pulled from the fryer
@@HighLordComedian Also, one of the other fryer beeps is usually about auto filtering the vat to remove floating bits of breading. Could also be replacing the filter pad if it hasn't been done in a while (Changes store to store)

As a sous chef who has been in the food service industry for around 25 years now, although the closest thing to fast food I've done was working at and eventually managing a Quiznos and later a Subway, I still find it extremely impressive to see how McDonalds is the fast food industry standard when it comes to speed and efficiency. It's truly a beautiful thing to see a particular franchise being run to perfection, as it is built for and intended to be run. Great pizza concepts do this extremely well too, and I'm fortunate to still be able to make some incredible brick oven pies at the restaurant I currently work for in Little Rock, AR. It seems like most in my profession wouldn't enjoy POV videos like this of others in this industry, as the mere sound of a ticket machine gives me anxiety, and tends to haunt my dreams.... LOL... but frankly I've always enjoyed watching videos of highly competent and capable employees doing their jobs effectively, and it should definitely give people some insight into what makes this business model work so well. It's also oddly relaxing, in an ASMR sorta way, to watch this content -- so well done all around!

I worked at mcdonalds in australia from 2015-2018. I miss the camaraderie and the (sometimes) simplistic nature of the job. In rush hours it was stressful, but also satisfying if your team was prepared for it. I started on front counter, then did drive thru, and made my way to the kitchen eventually. I came to love the structure and processes in the kitchen. I loved doing overnights for a while, but one night at 3am we had an armed robbery which shook me up. I left not too long after.
It was crazy how worked up customers would get over mcdonalds though. Like one guy threatened to find out which car was mine and smash all the windows... all because I misheard his coffee order as medium size instead of large. His partner in the passenger seat was so embarassed.
Even though I love my job now, where I don't have to deal with the stresses of fast food, I often wish me and the others i worked with could go back to that maccas and do another shift together. Just to relive it for a while.

As someone who works in Del Taco it’s crazy how different McOdnald’s is adn especially just one person making the food. In the weekend it’s just me making all the food and prep as well, so i’ll be making guac in the back then go to the taco bar and make some burritos or burgers then if i’m lucky go finish my guac unless i hear the ding which means someone’s in the drive-through. You seem so calm and not stressed out at all when making order after order, can’t imagine lol
