John 5 has to be one of the best guitarists around in that he is a soulful, yet an advanced guitar playing technician. Thanks for posting these videos.
A remarkably normal and humble guy off-stage, and a really great guitar player! I'm really digging his country influence in the fingerpicking licks, and I think he may be the first person I've seen to use the notes achieved from tapping the pick on the string past the last fret (e.g. 3:03).
i like how you can see some NATURAL wear and tear on most of his guitars, you can tell he spends most of his time bettering himself at the art of guitars
That long palm mute part is meant for him to be drinking something or throwing picks into the audience with his left hand, which is why he was smiling because he had none of that to do lol
That's Eric Johnsons solo so I don't know where you get your info from. The laughing was probably due to him having to provide accompaniment to someone else, thus not doing anything flashy or interesting that would normally be seen in in a guitar magazine like the one this is part of, Guitar World.
+Jose Martinez Basically John uses a variety of technics again and again so theres not only Black widow of la porte in there, but some licks that he uses in every single song.
this guy is one of the sickest guitarists around u gotta give him props being able to play better than most metal guitarists and using a fender telecaster, and he knows more techniques too
Very imaginative! Nice phrasing! One of the more interesting players out there. Without a doubt he's been influenced by many genres of music! Excellent tune! Bravo!
John 5 has really come a long ways-from his early career with Marylin Manson to Rob Zombie, to jamming along with many musicians, I'm proud that he's bringing new shit to the table and not copying other guys like Steve Vai or Malmsteen as he clearly stated in a past issue of Guitar Edge mag. I'm proud of his country-shred!
I know it might not appeal to a lot of "metalheads" but you should listen to this guy's "country" style playing. He's probably one of the most underestimated [versatile] guitar players on Earth.
I am so sick of everyone saying over and over again "77 people missed the like button" People are entitled to their opinions. I don't know how you could not like John 5 eitherbut my god think of something else to say please.
wow....this is the 1st time i listened to his solo stuff ever....think i might have been missing out, im not a big fan of shredders but he does some really interesting stuff, good to know the hype was living up to the standards
he just loves teles. in an interview he said he wanted one when he was a kid, but his first guitar was a strat. kinda like me, my first guitar was an AXL, and i just love them, i won't play anything else!
well said man. dont think this is terrible or owt but your statement is spot on lol anyone can shred in one key but changing the scale you play over each chord in a progression is a true skill
Telecaster is often connected to jazz and blues, the last few years there is some cool custom telecasters that are more for metall and hardrock, like the Jim Root telecaster and This J5 telecaster and his other telemodels are pretty heavy to, what i like on this model is the possition of the switch and the two volume pots on that awsome cool controlplate... this guitar is the cooles tele there is.
I like his use of hybrid picking. He uses it in an atonal way. Kinda reminds me of the way Buckethead uses his hybrid picking theory. I love seeing how all the top guitarists compare in style.
search youtube video "John 5 - Fender J5 Telecaster" He says he wired the humbuckers for independent volume control so he could do the on/off switch (killswitch) effect which he then demonstrates.
You haven't heard of him because he has always and still is a studio musician. It is weird some of the bands he has played for from Metal, Rock, Country, R & B, Rap & and now 4 or 5 Shredding CD's. Artists like Salt n' Pepa, Katie Lang, Marilyn Manson, 2 bands with Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Paul Stanley (Kiss), David Lee Roth (Van Halen), Rob Zombie, Tracy Chapman, Black Sabbath, Lita Ford & so many more he is a Guitarist for hire it is just in the past few years he has done solo work.
Most underrated guitar player, ever! Hes a genius with his craft. To compose something like this.... ugh, stopping myself. John 5, guitar god!
Is more underrated Steve Ouimette
love his ideas and his approach to playing... the mix of metal and country is brilliant
BryanRason brillant man
John 5 has to be one of the best guitarists around in that he is a soulful, yet an advanced guitar playing technician. Thanks for posting these videos.

Agree!
He IS God...
The only man i've ever admired.
It's so beautiful *-*
Thank you for being the only person here who can admit that John 5 is a mere human and can make mistakes.
A remarkably normal and humble guy off-stage, and a really great guitar player! I'm really digging his country influence in the fingerpicking licks, and I think he may be the first person I've seen to use the notes achieved from tapping the pick on the string past the last fret (e.g. 3:03).
I was the 300th person to give this 5 stars and it's well deserved!
My god since 2003
i like how you can see some NATURAL wear and tear on most of his guitars, you can tell he spends most of his time bettering himself at the art of guitars

still the best video after all these years.
There's some Black Widow in there.
+Jose Martinez Its from the same album
Makes sense
+Jose Martinez Basically John uses a variety of technics again and again so theres not only Black widow of la porte in there, but some licks that he uses in every single song.
OH MY GOD
finally someone else who gets it, any guitarist worth his salt can do what this guy does
listening to this makes my skin crawl
tuning is actually Standard. dont think too hard
+Mickey Ramirez What do you mean with standard?
+Anki Hansen standard? Do you play? Cause I'm pretty sure everyone starts on standard...
(EADGBE)
Mickey Ramirez there's no need to be a douche.

I like his style. A very country-inspired and unique take on metal playing.
John 5 has really come a long ways-from his early career with Marylin Manson to Rob Zombie, to jamming along with many musicians, I'm proud that he's bringing new shit to the table and not copying other guys like Steve Vai or Malmsteen as he clearly stated in a past issue of Guitar Edge mag. the first part has got that scarified feel to it, very cool!
well said man. dont think this is terrible or owt but your statement is spot on lol anyone can shred in one key but changing the scale you play over each chord in a progression is a true skill
never really knew who this guy was.
a much better guitarist than i would've thought him to be.
Jhon 5 is one of the top metalheads more viewed of the history
Telecaster is often connected to jazz and blues, the last few years there is some cool custom telecasters that are more for metall and hardrock, like the Jim Root telecaster and This J5 telecaster and his other telemodels are pretty heavy to, what i like on this model is the possition of the switch and the two volume pots on that awsome cool controlplate... this guitar is the cooles tele there is.
he ROCKS that tele!
this is what you call SKILL! BAM! he´s really gooooood!
I played this song acoustic on my Rock Band guitar...dominated it.
i'll tell ya, this is one of the best metal guitarists i've ever seen. he also plays country like a demon, just like here, if not better
Innovative, off the wall and full of musicality!
i love the scene at 5:40.
awesome lick!
I like his use of hybrid picking. He uses it in an atonal way. Kinda reminds me of the way Buckethead uses his hybrid picking theory. I love seeing how all the top guitarists compare in style.

John 5 is a beast
Awesome guitar!!

GOD DAMN my face melted, from that "face melter"
Great stuff.
Probably one of the most under-estimated guitarist of all time.
This guy uses every technique known to mankind of guitar in one song, in everyone of his songs. This guy is fucking nuts!
