The worst part about the “Bat-kids vs Thomas Wayne” fight is that CASSANDRA CAIN was among them. By that point in continuity, Cassandra has already been established as someone who could fight on par with Bruce himself (something that even Bruce admitted), if not outright defeat him. And yet, you mean to tell me that Thomas Wayne somehow managed to defeat not only her, but the rest of the Bat-kids while being severely wounded? Are you freaking kidding me? Tom King did NOT do his research on these characters and boy does it show.
Thomas Wayne beat Bruce and he beat Bane so he can easily beat Cain with both hands tied behind his back.

Nope. Both Bruce and Bane then went on to beat Thomas later on, which proves that he’s not stronger than them. Not to mention that it wasn’t just Cassandra who was fighting Thomas, but the entire Bat family minus Bruce and Dick. AND THOMAS WAS SEVERELY WOUNDED TO BOOT. Therefore, Thomas should NOT have been able to take them all down. What I said still stands and your argument is invalid.

It was one of the bigger slaps in the face to batman fans and batman continuity. And that's saying something in a run full of slaps in the face.
Funny how King was considered one of the most prolific writers in comics. Hes just trying waaay to hard with the bat cat thing, the stilted metaphores, the pseudo intellectial dialogue, the mopey batman, which was fine until it drove people up the wall. Thanks for doing the batman review series mate, ive loved every one :D

no one ever considered Tom King to be one of the most prolific comic book writers ever. That's just a stupid lie. He has won a few Eisner's but that's also the same for shit ton of writers. WTF! Having one well received title doesn't equal prolific writer

Yeah Thomas Wayne flashpoint Batman motivation makes no sense whatsoever.
Tom King wanted to make TDKR-level story, but instead gave us another All-star Batman and Robin.
All star Batman and Robin was actually a funny read though. Tom king's book is depressing and not fun at all.
22:40 Exactly this. you just summarized the whole problem with this run in one sentence. We know batman can be happy and still be batman. Tom King asks us a question that has been answered by Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and other writers before. The idea that batman can be happy and batman is not actually a novel concept despite what some people who don't read batman might think. Why waste 85 issues showing us what we already know. Actually come to think of it he doesn't show us batman being happy, and why does batman need Selina to be happy, doesn't he already have a gaggle of adopted sons and friends why would Selina suddenly make him happy. Maybe instead of making batman a shitty father and friend show batman actually being happy with Selina and his friends. Like in superfriends with Superman.

Aight I’m super late commenting on this video but in case anyone is curious it actually wasn’t King’s intention to kill Alfred. I believe in his original script Alfred had escaped so bane pretended to kill Clayface disguised as Alfred. For some reason DC to have him roll with the death after the fact after seeing the media attention it got. In case you’re wondering why such a major event had so little build up now you know. Cheers.

Man, I wanted to like King's run. I spent a lot of time defending it and despite the terrible stilted dialogue I still love having Batman and Catwoman together as a solid duo, but I'm glad he's moving on.
honestly I dont know whats worse between the bat cat thing, the it was on the boat it was on the street thing and the meow thing, but that all this are things that keep happening make me want to punch a wall

"We know Alfred is going to come back somehow..." Yeah it's a comic book, Batman died and came back, Superman died and he came back. How many times has Wolverine died? lol It's not an invention of King himself. Hell there is no Batman in flashpoint, Bruce Wayne is Batman, and he died as boy in that universe. Thomas isn't Batman, he's an insane father wearing a batsuit, filling a lose analogy to what exists in other universes.
Death and rebirth are literally the Hulk's playthings right now. And Alfred may be back sooner than expected based on the wording of the new Nightwing solicits but I may be mistaken.

At the end of the day Tom King's run on Batman proved to be much worse than Scott Snyder's. King clearly was aimless.
The rogue gallery overwhelmed him. He changed too much to fit his tone.

It was incredible how he managed to work in every negative trope and aspects about modern comic's and Batman into a bad Knightfall rip off.

Despite all the flaws, I don't mind city of Bane that much...
...but how in the fucking fuckedy fuck did an old Thomas Wayne beat Damian Wayne, Tim Drake, Duke Thomas, Batwoman, Huntress, Nightwing and Cassandra Cain - ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
Tom King needs to take a break...or never write for DC again. Either or.

I didn't know anything about this run for the whole thing, because I don't bother keeping up with comics. But someone showed me the Batfamily vs Thomas Wayne part, and I was so frustrated that I had to see what this was about. My morbid curiosity led me here to see the whole Tom King run, and man does it seem like trash. The Batfam vs Thomas was the icing on the cake of completely not getting any of the characters. Cassandra could take him on her own, no problem, but someone kicking him in the back is all that it takes to defeat him. What a waste.
I personally would really love for you to cover Tomasi Superman because that series was tons of fun and way better then bendis madness.

Atleast, moments between Batman and Catwoman is nice.
I have a theory. I think tom king is a time traveler and comes from the future. He stole the best comic stories from other famous writers from a close future and published those himself earlier. Then he got recognition as one of the best if not the best writer in the last 10 years, but then the problem presented to him: the publishers requested him to write new stories. And of course he decided to write them... and they were crap. That would explain why his stories after human target are utter crap.

Just asking again. Irrelevant question but how would you incorporate the speed force in something like Young Justice if you absolutely have to and what aspects of it can be used. Like, what powers does it provide if any and how qould they be used and if they would provide a boost of speed for someone like, Wally West. Asking the question for a pitch that I am doing.

Tom King's run made me read Detective Comics instead of the main Batman series, that's how bad it is...
I agree with the ending of the critique, it wasn't a well planed out story, it was much too sporadic. And DC was as much a hindrance to this run, as King when he got too full of himself. King had way too long of a run.
