    Oh my gosh ,awesome video you have given me confidence to do my own belt change! I was scheduled to go in on Monday the Mechanic tells me Ow,I'm 2 to 3 weeks backup didn't even call me!? I showed up that morning which would be is it Monday the 25th. Really nice guy and a great mechanic But on the business and hes kind of lacking skills, It's called call the customer and let him know,,,, . I am Definitely a DIY. Always say , if you want it done right do-it-yourself!. But i never ever, thought I could do anything like this on my 360 it's such a big deal. In the amount of money that the Ferrari Mechanics want to charge. Is or even a independent. So, I am not a rich person whatsoever. I sold my house to get this car! Now I have a 40' motor home used, a used car trailer That I've totally pimped out to look like a Major Ferrari man cave on wheels. I'm in heaven! I am going to cancel my appointment with this Mechanic. And with all the confidence I am going to do this. I will prefab that plate You are showing on the video . Is same with the Is spacer pipe.I will do everything exactly how you did it. I'm 63 but very healthy And young at heart. I started out with the 72 Chevy Vega, Did the 77 transam thing and then did the Corvette Thing, Then I really wasted some years by doing the kit car kit kar lambo thing. Then I really finally got the real deal oh on May 11th it will be 2 years!
    I'm up for the challenge. Here's the kicker. I feel when I accomplish this it's gonna be right up there with some good sex! Meaning what I am going to feel like after I do this service! Is indorphans will be flying!
    It's almost like I wanna go out and have custom print T-shirt And bumper made saying, I did a major service on my Ferrari 360 by myself! So kiss my ass!! Ha, Thank you so much for putting this On RUclips. ( one Q's When you were putting on the Cambelts and you were clamping them down and then the video stopped ,what trick did you do to get it to go the tensioner ? I was thinking for sure the belt definitely needs to be soft and warm Do you do anything to make the belt more flexible? I figured I'd ask this question before I get started.
    Once again thanks, You're the man!
    Hope one day I could send you a picture of my 360 and my garage on wheels! I live in Durango Colorado, beautiful mountain town and there's a 253 mile stretch they call the $millon dollar highway$
    I'll make that drive here in June sometime. You go over several mountain passes as high as 10,850" Beautiful country! Cheers!

    • @Ratarossa
      @Ratarossa  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the kind comment. Glad this has helped you out. Theres no trick with the belts, you dont warm them up or anything like that. Its really just perseverance and making sure all the belt is nice and uniformly correct on each expanse. Its a pretty easy job to do. Just triple check everything each step and make sure you mark everything before starting ... that is really just as a backup incase anything slips or moves, you than have a reference point to go back to and restart. best of luck and great to hear your story. Enjoy that 360, ive had my current on over 12 years now and it still thrills me every drive.

    As a tech this is awesome to see. I always see "maintenence costs" from owners that pay labor (assuming any ferrari shop is big $$/hr). I've seen prices of both oem parts (gaskets etc) & aftermarket (stainless ball joints etc) & they honestly don't seem to bad compared to other performance or import cars. Now to get the $100k+ to buy one lol

    The 360 was one of the first Ferraris that you could actually do this on, as in home maintenance and also not having to remove the engine all the time. Before this every few years you basically had to remove the engine out of pretty much every Ferrari built. Even the F355 in the other side of the garage shot there has to have a full engine out service to do the jobs properly.

    The layout of this timing belt looks almost identical to a Mitsubishi 4g63. I did the timing belt in my eclipse a week or so ago and it looks incredibly similar in this car, minus the fact it’s a v8 vs my inline 4 cylinder haha! I’ve only done 2 timing belts ever, a bmw e30 and the 4g63t. The bmw looked nothing like this, I’m guessing it’s just a common design, pretty neat!

    Just bought a 360 that needed help, the tipping point to buy was your youtube video of how to do the cam belts (one of the many items the car needed), as the local guy wanted $3600 to do the job, bought the parts from Seperformance in the UK, WAY cheaper than anywhere here in the USA by a LOT (you must keep ya order under $800 for no import fees tho!).
    Question; TDC on cyl #1, how do you know if its on the compression stroke?
    Again, YOUR the reason i jumped in with both feet, so thank you thank you thank you....regards, Ian (Da Crazy Brit, Stateside)

    Thanks for a very informative video. I do have a few questions......
    1/ If the cams and crank have yellow alignment marks on them at the belt end why do you need to remove the cam covers and check the marks at that end also? And why take a plug out and find tdc? If all the yellow marks are lined up everything has to be fine doesn't it?
    2/ Why can you not refit the belt tensioner pulley after the belt is on the three big pulleys? It may make refitting the belt easier?
    3/ Is it even possible for the tensioner gap to be incorrect with the pin still in place?
    4/ If the frequency of the cam belt in incorrect after fitting how do you adjust the tension without the pin locking up? And surely once the engine is running belt tension is maintained by the tensioner so how critical can the frequency be?

There is a difference between just having the engine running and optimum performance.....and I understand that it can take hours to get the correct timing.

    How long would that entire belt service you performed take if you weren't in a hurry, or filming?

    • @Ratarossa
      @Ratarossa  5 лет назад +6

      Thats a tricky one to answer. Obviously doing the filming for you guys this took A LOT longer because I wanted to get it right for you and not skip any corner and also to show you different ways, example being the cheap DIY cost saving version versus the Factory way using correct expensive tools that way it helps a vast array of owners. Also the more times you do it the easier it gets. The frequency side of things for me took a while as I needed to research various apps etc. But I would say now for me to do it again tomorrow a realistically about 5-6 hours. The bulk of that time is spent removing parts to get to the actual belts. so stuff like the under tray and seats all take up a chunk of time. the belts themselves are relatively quick. Again as i sat in the video, doing a job like this if you are doing it yourself, allow plenty of time as when you are rushed you make mistakes and thats something that you don't want to do with timing belts. More time, more relaxed and you'll enjoy the process more.
      hope that helps

      It always takes me about 1-2 days, but ideally leave yourself a week if you’re DIY in case you face any difficulties!

    Awsome video love it. just ordered all my stuff to do it myself.thank you.
    And i just saw you in the forza ferrari magazine article.good stuff.cant wait for your next video.
    Quick question.do we really need to put it in top dead center.why not just a lock and swap.
    And on the tensioner does it have to be removed to align the pin hole?or can we use the wrench tool to try and push it back in place till the allen key pin lines up in the hole?

      To answer the questions, yes absolutely you could do a lock and swap. In the video i'm trying to teach how its done by the factory and for those doing it first time etc. The other issue with a lock and swap is if a tooth slips or you are half a tooth out from an old stretched belt v new one. If you have TDC and all your alignment marks you have a reference start point should something go wrong, I guess its just a safe way of playing it.
      Regarding the tensioner yes you can try and use the wrench to push it back in, there is a heck of pressure on the shaft and it worked on one of mine but not the other which is why that one came off and was compressed in the vice. time wise its easy if you can use a wrench in car but its only two bolts to take it out the car so a couple of mins, if its difficult and you risk damaging something then take the easy route and remove it.
      Hope that answers the questions

    Good one Scott,
    Rather than setting the engine to TDC, couldn’t you just mark the position of all the pulleys with a marker ( like nail varnish ) and as long as they all line up on refitting, all should be good ....no?

      yes 100%, the TDC was a failsafe incase somehow you manage to rotate everything and misalign. its a reference to put it all back

    i have a couple of questions for you, your old belts were pretty bad / cracked, how long have they been on the car for how many years and miles ??
    and what ferrari diagnostics can you recommend for me, is there anything in the range of about 2000 € ??
    keep up the good work! 😎
