    In the primary I empty a full quart bottle, then pour 6 oz of oil in the empty bottle and pour it in.
    No guess, no over or under fill. Same end, just simpler for me.
    Also be sure you use the T27 torx! Others "almost" fit, but will mess up your day!

    Tip when pouring your oil in the funnel if you turn the bottle so the neck is on the high side the oil doesn't go glud glud glud and splash. it will pour in a steady stream .

    As well as putting in the proper amount of oil in the primary, I always double check the amount of oil that is touching the clutch assembly. Then I'm satisfied.

    This is a great video and thanks for giving us really good information. The only thing I wish you added was when you said you will set the torque but you didn't say to set it to what? I have been reading that 86 inch-pounds but I have to look up the one for the drain plug? Thanks again.

    Thanks. Very simple but important points. I did not hear you say what the bolts on the derby cover need to be torqued at. Can you confirm them??

  • @jpcycles
    @jpcycles  9 лет назад +1

    Charlie Perry its personal preference. The o-rings can be a bit more difficult to install. If you change derby covers sometimes it is necessary to use a derby cover with no center section instead of the solid flat piece from the factory, so in that case a o-ring would be better.

    Ladies and gents invest in a service manual- I see a lot of folks asking about torque specs- These amazing videos are great and I appreciate the hell out of them but you really should have a manual that will have all sorts of specs for your particular bike- There was a time when Harley owners did most of their own work except maybe heavy machine shop work and granted that is one of the reasons older bikes often had issues. But the new bikes if you do the work properly you will have the ability to really take care of your bike and have the satisfaction of knowing your bike and all of the benefits that come with it.
    I cannot tell you how many times I have stopped to help a guy or gal on a bike and they had a ton of bling and stuff installed but no tools, didn't really know much about the bike and if they had a little knowledge and a tool roll, I wouldn't be on the side of the road helping them out. It is also a safety issue if you ride your bike and aren't able to easily and quickly detect a problem then you are not being safe.

      +Simon Longmore He tells you 84in. pounds for torque. Which, for most of these late model big twins the torque range for the derby cover is 84-120in. pounds. Unless you meant the drain plug torque spec? Which, you really don't need a torque wrench. Or just google it.
