I have in the past put a thin layer of oil on the plug O-rings and the derby cover gasket. Is that a bad thing?

Did you visually check the level in the primary?

Yes, it should fill right to the bottom of the derby cover gasket/o-ring.

Which case? 1 quart = 32 oz. Owners manual has the volume both dry and wet.

Its in the OM so you don't need service manual. Different model years can have different torques.

Close to 1 quart. Your OM will tell you wet fill vs dry fill.
