    So a black man calls out white privilege = people get upset.

      People of both races need to stop thinking idiotically. Macklemore speaks out on the right of lots of people, not just blacks. The guy cares.

    • @BanksyMane
      @BanksyMane 8 лет назад +5

      Yup, this type of attitude could lead someone who cares about minority issues to say "You know what, fuck it, it's easier to not care." That's a problem. Let people help and if they aren't genuine the truth will come out eventually.

    • @jasun_05
      @jasun_05 8 лет назад +2

      +Doyin Haastrup The problem is, when you say you guys you refer to the black community, but the black community is not united in opinions. Those in our community that outcry and complain on social media both about whites being silent about black lives issues and white people trying to right race grievances simply have their opinions promoted more than everybody else in the community. The reason for that is because negativity speaks louder than positivity, despite these people not speaking for the entire race. And also, those that complain about both truly won't be satisfied by anything but black supremacy because they are not-so-closeted racists against whites. But don't start thinking that all black people must feel this way just because their are some of us that like to tweet negativity and racism towards whites with a platform in black culture.

    • @chancelorgrey2702
      @chancelorgrey2702 8 лет назад +1

      FFOELUV I don't know or haven't seen a single person be mad that he spoke out. Perhaps putting it in a song and making profit off of it?.....maybe that is the problem. He could just protest without having to be paid for it. That seems to be a bigger issue than a white rapper speaking about race issues. But you know, nuance right?
      I personally like that he made the song and same love but don't just say people are mad without any context as to why.

    I appreciate the effort from Macklemore. The question or skepticism from black people is wondering whether this is for exploitation or is he really being 💯. Also, I think it's frustrating from a black perspective to only have your struggles validated if you get a white co-sign. It's like, how many unlawful deaths got over looked and dismissed before this song dropped? But it took a white rapper to bring up one of the elephants in the room in order to get an audience with white America. Respect to Macklemore tho.

    As a black man, I have no problem with Macklemore's song. I don't understand wat some black folks are so pissed about. Not all white folks have a agenda. Mack has always been social commentary. This is White Privilege 2. He came out with the first one addressing these issues before he even blew up so I feel he is sincere. The REAL problem is why tf we have a WHITE BOY talking about BLACK ISSUES that BLACK ARTISTS should be talking about? THAT should be the conversation. Besides Cole and Kendrick, no rapper is making music that's social commentary that speaks on our community who are in the forefront. It's all about the turn up. And the turn up is cool, but there are some real things that need to be addressed. The fact that we have a white boy talking about our issues that more black artists should be addressing, idc wat anybody says that's a problem. That's why ppl talking about the 90s so much. Cause back then u had that. U had Ice Cube, Public Enemy, KRS One, 2Pac. Now it's only 2 rappers? That's fucked up. That's a conversation that we should be having.

    The fact that people think that an oppressed group being skeptical of others is something new is troubling to me. Black people are skeptical of other black people who claim that they are helping the community. REALLY. If you want to give up just because people don't willingly trust You, no one is stopping you. People are allowed to question. Yes, a lot of times they are really mean. But it has always been like this. No matter the minority group. If a group has been bamboozled by being lied to, forgotten about, and given broken promises, mistrust is a symptom. They are going to be skeptical of people who say they care because in these days "caring" is a trend. Do I think Macklemore is being sincere, yes. But right is right and wrong is wrong. An oppressed people will have the mindset of oppression. There are too many people who wanted to preach the right message but the message wasn't important enough for them to go through hard trials. Many civil rights leaders had to go through the same thing. They had to deal with the oppressor and the oppressed. Its not an easy task to be a voice. Nothing new under the son.

    As a white person I would say...If you want to help with racism, it's important to listen to people of color. I do think Macklemore has genuine concern about racism, but that doesn't mean he can't listen to people of color who think he should change his methods etc...
    to add to that, I don't think a white person talking about racism is the only way other white people can understand it. It could be a good gateway to understanding, but that doesn't mean white people should be the only voice.

    I don't get why people are getting mad at him for acknowledging that white privilege exists. Racism is not an issue that should only be tackled by people of colour. It should be spoken about by everyone just like how feminism involves both men and women. A lot of white people often think that racism has nothing to do with them and don't talk about it but the truth is race effects everyone because your race either works for you or against you. Macklemore is admitting to the privilege that comes with being white. In order for society to move forward white people need to stop being scared to talk about racism and acknowledge their privilege and that's exactly what Macklemore is doing.

    it's crazy how Mackelmore can support black lives matter and most black children don't even know there history and want to be a different race. It truly is sad. Honestly I commemorate Mackelmore for this song. Addressing an issue (black lives matter and white supremacy ) to a whiter audience.

    yall better keep playing the song. He broke it down. He really ain't gotta seek approval. He could just make his money and keep it pushing.
    so he did not have to do it at all.

    Well scottie brings up a valid point that stretches across the color lines. She said that sometimes artist may SPEAK on the BLM movement but not actually do anything to help the cause except to bring light to it. There are many black artist who talk radical but really don't make any moves to help bring about change. So since he is white shouldn't get a pass? We have soooooo many rappers who dont live what they rap , good or bad, its more than music.

    @ebro Anyone who stands up and speaks against any equality should be applauded regardless of who they are or the colour of their skin, otherwise how are you ever going to get someone who's not your colour or from your particular back to give a shit and care

    I see where the debate comes from. Tim Wise mentioned that due to him being white a lot of his critiques on race and structutal oppression were accepted despite being repeated from black scholars.

    The last caller gets it. Not to pretend color doesn't divide, but we need to come together on this. Out casting people will not create equality it will do the opposite.

    A lot of people who talk about white privilege who are white are speaking to an audience that might listen more if the person saying it looks like them. I don't think he is looking for approval. I think he is an artist that has the guts to at least say something. How many white politicians say that? Music used to be about social change. More music should spark convo like this, to make us think and talk to each other. I don't think he is speaking for blacks its been said many times by blacks but sometimes we are looked at as complaining. Good for Macklemore for at least making an effort. Tim Wise I like you too, "white like me" is a good watch and good read. Peace and love @houseofmargeaux

    I guess when he said "spanish" people he meant someone from Spain, not hispanic-american. Nevertheless, that precise point is really accurate, and I support it. The struggle minorities have to suffer has its differences but once you dig deep, in the US context, similarities are strong enough to develop a certain bond between different cultures.

    The last caller is the only one who had a point! We are in the 21st century, and hip hop is and should not be exclusively BLACK music!!! Black people rap and sing about discrimination, while they're doing the exact same thing to white people! Get a grip!! It's MUSIC. IT's UNIVERSAL.
