Shit, most true hiphop heads tend to also have a rock background to them because of the "mainstream influence".

There's nothing wrong with being in a metal band...unless of course you're trying to rep yourself as something else & don't want anyone to know who you once were! I don't see why he would be embarrassed about it-influences come from everything! I think it's cool that he played metal! Maybe he's afraid of what other people will think of that when he shouldn't care...or maybe they were really bad! I guess that would be understandable-something you'd want to bury in the past!
It's possible that he just thought he was part of a "shitty metal band" or was just so past that phase of his life that it was weird thinking about it. Kind of like when people remember their emo phase or something.
I think he was in a band when he was a kid in the way a lot of us were "in bands" meaning we met in someone's basement and play shitty tabs we learned. I don't think it's anything against metal I think it's just "Oh god Nard knows the shitty music I made in high school!"
