  • In today's video I share a technique that has helped me a lot with my tension issues and tendency to push and strain. Speech level singing helps me to apply the easy natural feeling of my speaking voice to my singing voice. If your speaking voice doesn't feel easy or natural you must address that first with speech therapy, that's where I started.
    CHAPTERS:

0:45 - What is speech level singing??

I been practicing SLS for over a year now and I learned that it's the same volume as your speech as well. I did Muh, Foo, Wah, and Wee. I would practice them for several hours a day. It finally clicked just recently. There's no need to strain or pull up chest voice which was my problem in the beginning. It's an amazing feeling once you get it.

@@FireboltJB I was diagnosed w MTD ten years ago so I suppose it’s been ten years! :) I have always had a good practice routine… practicing 3-5 times a week. These days I see a vocal coach 2 times a month and I honestly don’t do a ton of practice anymore. I am a vocal coach so I am always sort of in the practice of all things voice. I would say to look at your life and see what will work for you. Find a routine that feels sustainable and good and just keep at it. Also, be flexible and compassionate with yourself.

@@LizBills Let's see if I got this right. So majority of the SLS exercises are designed to get you to sing the song in a spoken type of voice?

@@FireboltJB yes :) and our speaking voices can be quiet or loud or somewhere in between! When I approach singing from more of a speaking place it just feels much freer to me. I think a lot of us singers have a tendency to try too hard to sing because we think it’s different from our speaking voices… but it’s the same voice. :)
