As a singer, I knew I wasn't supposed to clear my throat but I was never told why, so thanks for the reasoning behind why a singer or maybe almost anyone ought not clear their throat. Also, I am glad you mentioned warm tea for you throat. I was told warm liquids are good for singing and cold liquids aren't. Sometimes I have used hot sauce for limbering up my throat. Not super hot sauce but mild hot sauce. I think the peppers numb the throat and relax it. I don't know if it is actually a bad idea, but it was something I used to do when I was playing and singing in Dive Bars years ago. It seemed to work for me.

Its never *moist* when its cold out. The cold air is incapeable of holding moisture like the hot. Your body is likely overproducing phlegm in cold to lubricate. -- Edit: also sinus drainage from mild infection/sickness and over lubrication seems to happen in the cold. I try to not write the paragraph long descriptions for at least 1% of my comments but all or nothing statements are often incorrect.

Starlet D, A hoarse speaking voice can be caused by so many things.
Your best course of action would be to visit a qualified ENT and have a laryngoscope.

I blame mine on smoking and drinking way more than anyone. You look like you might be one of us who use lots of substances. Marijuana dries out my body so badly and seems to be the worst.

Starlet D I had several sinus allergies since I was a kid. Went though vaccines, homeopathy and a long list. The most helpful thing has been nasal rinse with filtered sea water (you can buy it already made o do it yourself)
Also diet is very important as You might have some intolerance

Phlegm is usually caused by allergies or dehydration. If and when your going to sing it's best to hydrate the day before and have a room temperature bottle of water close to you when you sing. If it's do to allergies try a over the counter medicine that works for your body, this may take a few weeks to figure out.

First time wathching your channel. I visited your website just now, went there to have a quick look. What catched my eye was: "I believe that no one needs to put limitations on their voice and decide for one genre. It’s all a matter of technique, and you can learn it!". This is a very important statement and I'm very happy to finally have found a "legit" vocal-teacher who supports the same thesis as I do ;)
To me it made your teaching-offer completely credible and it makes you as a teacher most likable to me - for I suspect you to having really "explored" the voice.
I think I'll search for some singing of yours - I'm curious now of how you might sound :)
Thank you very much for your throat-clearing-advice! I will heed it ;)
I hope I could explain well enough what my point was ... English is not my first language - so I apologize for possible mistakes ;)
(I am a self-thaught-singer (and sideline teacher) from germany)

Here’s my tip for vocal throat:
I use SORE THROAT SPRAY or COUGH DROPS because it will sting inside my throat while cleaning it up before I drink water
And it’s always better to practice in big empty space

Everytime I have a project for school my voice cracks and people laugh at me. I hope this works

    • @lizb853
      @lizb853 4 года назад

      Jaw breaker goto
That's simply nervous tension caused by people laughing at you.
Prepare your project and just go out there and show them what you're made if,and if they think it's funny, well that's THEIR problem. Get rid of the tension, and your voice will go back to normal and STAY that way
