Aight I’m on stage and I sing in 5 seconds and I notice I need to clear my throat, I’m gonna walk off and grab some tea
You know singers actually always have water close to them on stage. Like just a little bottle on the floor of the stage that they drink a bit from before the start of every song. Gotta moisturize the vocals my man.
Exactly lol
Youse an amateur yonas you gotta being the honey ginger with you...forgettin ass
trevor • saw a video once that said swallow. instead of clearing your throat because clearing bangs the vocal cords , causing damage like coughing.

Does this stop voice cracking? Please respond I’m desperate
Kyleigh&carlea I don’t think so. Its to help you from preventing to clear your throat.
Kyleigh&carlea Throat coat tea kinda helps with cracking.
Add some cloves (2 or 3), black pepper (3), bay leaves (about 3), I use agave instead of honey, so with the ginger this works wonders for me when I'm singing, plus the ginger gives lots of energy.
@@carlea2224 There are lots of videos here to help. Just look for vocal cord exercises, especially strengthening....

I'm a vocalist with asthma. When I try to sing through it, or past it, when I have a tickle or phlegm I cause an attack! I will try the warm ginger tea, thanks!
No one:
The comments:I couldn’t help but clear my throat
I have had more than one voice teacher tell me not to clear my throat, but they never told me why. This video explained it very nicely. Thanks for posting.
I'm stopping rn , I already do this , Everytime I sing kpop songs o drink water to hit those high notes and being able to do the growls while rapping
4:07 "Always keep a song in your heart and always keep on singing." Wow.
I always did that subconsciously.
I'm currently fighting to overcome silent reflux and exercise-induced asthma. But I discovered your video series and now I have more motivation to win the battle so I can learn to sing for real. Thank you!
I took montelucast and leveocitrizine every night and got excellent results.
Also, I did all that acid cider vinegar and stomach friendly foods to stop reflux.
Now I am much better❤
I’m in misery because of 24/7 phlegm, have difficulty breathing, asthma is ruled out. No acid found in Gi ph testing
Maybe psychological cry😢
Drink warm ginger tea with honey.
THERE, you don't need a 5 min video for this.
Thats it?

Asked The Google What To Do To Have Good Vocals, Before Singing At My Aunts Funeral, Haven't Sang For Awhile Sine Covid, > So Appreciate Any Adbice To Warm Up My Vocals, > That Got Rusty
As a singer, I knew I wasn't supposed to clear my throat but I was never told why, so thanks for the reasoning behind why a singer or maybe almost anyone ought not clear their throat. Also, I am glad you mentioned warm tea for you throat. I was told warm liquids are good for singing and cold liquids aren't. Sometimes I have used hot sauce for limbering up my throat. Not super hot sauce but mild hot sauce. I think the peppers numb the throat and relax it. I don't know if it is actually a bad idea, but it was something I used to do when I was playing and singing in Dive Bars years ago. It seemed to work for me.
This comment is very old, but just thought that I’d share that I have a tea that has chili flakes in it for this very reason. The creator of the tea made it for someone who is a voice actor, so they need to keep their voice healthy. I definitely think hot sauce works

THANK YOU!!! Learning so much! I’m no pro singer and probably will never be but I quit smoking to ensure I never lose my singing voice because I sing 24/7!!!! It’s everything to me 💕
Also, avoid phlegm inducing foods if you know you will be singing soon? Dairy gets me every time.
Sugary drinks gets me, especially soda.
Brushing my teeth always ducks my voice up for some reason
@@ax438 toothpaste is very drying. That’s why they used it on zits in the 90s.

Don't drink cold water. Cold water strains your vocal chords and makes it hurt when you sing.
You're a genius! Helped my metal vocals so much!!! Now instead of trashing my throat even more when I have flem in it I can get the flem to go away and deliver clean growls. Thank you!
I keep a tall thermos cup that keeps my tea warm for numerous of hours until I refill it again, thanks for the tips!
I do remember reading an article about this. So now I avoid clearing my throat in general, just hum or drink :) Thanks for confirming this tip!
Oh, I've had such a problem with this over the years. Thank you so much for this advice. I will definitely try it.
Have been dealing with this issues for YEARS. THANK YOU
Drink something warm
Stretch out your voice a bit
Vocalize high/low (for stretching) 3:04
Lime flower tincture or Linden tea, warm drinks with honey/lemon/garlic/ginger (whichever preference); also swallowing a teaspoon of oil (olive/rice bran) helps ☺️
This is so very helpful. I never knew how sensitive my vocal cords were til l had Cervical surgery and my throat was open in the front, my vocal cords where stretched out of wack. I'm a vocalist of 50 years never had this problem of clearing my throat til 10 years ago, thank you for this information.
I just got out of bed and wanted to clear things up before getting back into a new music routine and this actually helped clear away some of the junk! Thank you so much!
Hi Freya! Just stumbled upon this video and I’d like to thank you for your tips - they work for me. Learnt about the tea drinking technique from my hospital voice specialist but not about vocalising to dislodge phlegm. You filled the gap.
Oh my goodness! It's really effective. Thank you Coach!
This is a great advice. Thank you Freya!
I had to sing early this morning so I’ve tried your method and it TOTALLY WORKED!!!! Ur a God-sent!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!
Yes thank you very much I do that also before and after singing
Having a huge phlegm issue this helped me alooooot THANK YOUUUUU
Excellent advice ma'am..
Thank you so much 👏🏻🎵🎶
This worked incredibly well and fast! I have been suffering from phlegm in my throat for several weeks while practicing singing for several choir gigs. I watched your video on not clearing one's throat and followed your instructions. Today, 24 hours later, the phlegm is completely gone and I can sing clearly again! Thank you!!
*gulp!* That’s me... Thank you for the tips, I shall resist the urge to clear my throat in future...
I just love you! I came across your channel and I'm a New Subscriber! Keep teaching us ma'am 😇
I like the cool things and suggestions you have and are very important to know. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for this life changing tip!
I also do the vocal swoops for throat clearing but I usually do it as a lip trill, or else I'll engage the "R" shape in the back of my throat and do it with sort of a Yoda voice but not so raspy.
I've been clearing my throat since I was 15...I'm 55 now :p
Good information! I really needed it . Thanks lot!🙏
Freya: Thank You so much for sharing. God Bless You. 🙏💛
I can't stop!
My opinion is that clearing our throat is not bad. If it would be so bad, then everybody would have vocal chords problems because we all do it sometimes when needed. I think it becomes a problem when it becomes an habit and you clear your throat every 5 minutes or so.
Yeah it is bad but it takes the cuff of the voice box
My voice gets bad phlegm when I sing alot and I clear my throat to the point of tasting that blood taste so I know it'sdoing some damage but I just can't get rid of it. It's frustrating
Thank you this explains a lot.
Wonderful info, thank you for sharing.
1:17 to get to the point
Im a singer and clearing my throat works and never did any damage to my voice.
However Im going to try your techniques.
I imagine its not about damage, its just one less thing to wear on your voice for the evening, same as talking to people before the gig.
You freestyles the whole thing, beatific video and gorgeous voice ❤
Thanks.it helped a lot I n clearing my phlegm in my throat for my speech which is not taught of my speech therapist. I'm glad I found you.i found out I don't ha ve coughing mechanism,so I try your technic. I followed it religiously till I have it. I'm 70 yo fro a massive stroke survivor for 5 years now. Praying I still make it.
I have bad sinus drainage throughout the year, so this is actually a really good tip. I do metal vocals primarily, so I hardly ever use my real voice when singing, but I'll keep this in mind next time I do clean singing! 👍
What are metal vocals?
Why wasn't this in my recommended, like 2 years ago I used to clear my voice over like 20 times a day
Freya... what a name for a singer!
Thank you for your help and showing me don’t clearly my throat, I always do that after I have been seen your video maybe I gotta changed it. God blessed you and your family too.
Its never *moist* when its cold out. The cold air is incapeable of holding moisture like the hot. Your body is likely overproducing phlegm in cold to lubricate. -- Edit: also sinus drainage from mild infection/sickness and over lubrication seems to happen in the cold. I try to not write the paragraph long descriptions for at least 1% of my comments but all or nothing statements are often incorrect.
*What if you are too lazy to get up and make ginger tea*

Drink Ground Ginger Mix with Water
It really worked !!..i saw this video 1 month ago..and commenting now..thanks a lot mam
Best teacher ever!!!!
OMG! I do it most of the time. I've damaging my vocal cord.
I have a natural hoarseness to my voice alone with horrible sinus allergy issues.I was in many competitions and choirs throughout my education.I noticed as I got into high school I got laryngitis right before a state competition and when it went away my voice was harsher and more yucky souding.I have a soprano range (or did) but I'm 35 and reteacting myself from the basics.Any thoughts or ideas on why I have the raspyness or if I can change it to make it sound cleaner and clearer?
Starlet D, A hoarse speaking voice can be caused by so many things.
Your best course of action would be to visit a qualified ENT and have a laryngoscope.
I blame mine on smoking and drinking way more than anyone. You look like you might be one of us who use lots of substances. Marijuana dries out my body so badly and seems to be the worst.
Starlet D I had several sinus allergies since I was a kid. Went though vaccines, homeopathy and a long list. The most helpful thing has been nasal rinse with filtered sea water (you can buy it already made o do it yourself)
Also diet is very important as You might have some intolerance
SING DEEPER FROM YOU GUT!
Starlet D Speak from your gut and take the pressure off your throat
Thank you Freya!
Thanks for your valuable advise! I've learnt a lot.
What do you recommend for someone who is a beginner just doing it as a hobby to start at what video of yours?
Phlegm is usually caused by allergies or dehydration. If and when your going to sing it's best to hydrate the day before and have a room temperature bottle of water close to you when you sing. If it's do to allergies try a over the counter medicine that works for your body, this may take a few weeks to figure out.
Very nicely explained..thanks
Thank you. Invaluable input.

Thank you for your tips!
First time wathching your channel. I visited your website just now, went there to have a quick look. What catched my eye was: "I believe that no one needs to put limitations on their voice and decide for one genre. It’s all a matter of technique, and you can learn it!". This is a very important statement and I'm very happy to finally have found a "legit" vocal-teacher who supports the same thesis as I do ;)
To me it made your teaching-offer completely credible and it makes you as a teacher most likable to me - for I suspect you to having really "explored" the voice.
I think I'll search for some singing of yours - I'm curious now of how you might sound :)
Thank you very much for your throat-clearing-advice! I will heed it ;)
I hope I could explain well enough what my point was ... English is not my first language - so I apologize for possible mistakes ;)
(I am a self-thaught-singer (and sideline teacher) from germany)
Here’s my tip for vocal throat:
I use SORE THROAT SPRAY or COUGH DROPS because it will sting inside my throat while cleaning it up before I drink water
And it’s always better to practice in big empty space
That’s not good for the throat while singing. It’s too drying
@@thatgirlnaat they don’t dry the throat though
The warm ginger tea with honey is SO true!! I always drink that when I have a sore throat!
Thanks a lot.
I got big help from this of your video.
Everytime I have a project for school my voice cracks and people laugh at me. I hope this works
Jaw breaker goto
That's simply nervous tension caused by people laughing at you.
Prepare your project and just go out there and show them what you're made if,and if they think it's funny, well that's THEIR problem. Get rid of the tension, and your voice will go back to normal and STAY that way
Lady: what I want you to do instead is number one, Resist.
My mind: S T O P R E S I S T I N G
You are an amazing teacher
very helpful tips. Thanks Freya
