If anybody knows, how should we breathe when doing exercises from SLS? We should breathe from the diagram and tighten the abdominal muscles? And could anybody tell me please what should I do if I have too much palate tension?
    Great video btw.

Wonderful video. So great to see the Maestro in parts of this. (I doubt he'll remember me, but he blew my mind and helped me an unbelievable amount in just three lessons.)
Are there any videos where he/the two of you explain the concept of splatting the vowel? It's a term I've heard/read associated with Maestro Riggs and his technique (as something to avoid!!) but I never asked him to explain it to me, foolishly.

Stuart McBride Are you sure you paid attention to the video? 😊 It's all about that.

I think this is Michael Bolton's voice coach.

My throat gets irritated/sore no matter what vocal exercises I do it seems (I have a lot of tension in my neck and throat). Is that normal in the beginning? I'm doing Bubble lips from Singing from the Stars at the moment...

No, you shouldn't have any discomfort. You are most likely not breathing and supporting correctly. Let your tummy out for a second, way down below your belly button, and then pull it in as you sing. If you don't have proper air support, there will be tension in your throat. Also - keep your larynx down in the general area where you speak. Allow the singing to go up vertically behind your soft pallat.

@@MargaretaSvenssonRiggs Thanks for replying :) okay, seems I need to work more on my breathing. I have only been able to relax my tummy enough to breathe that low for a month. My postural therapist gave me an exercise that stretched my abs and forced me to breathe deeper (which have been very tight and unflexible because of my scoliosis (my pelvis is tilted and my back is very stiff so my abs have been compensating for my back apparently). My 50% lung capacity doesn't help either ;)

Unfortunately not. If she only did, her agonies would be gone. She'd be Rolling In The Deep for real ❤️
