The EQS has more elegance and presence than the i7, when they cruise by. The EQS has better proportions than the EQE. The i7 just looks techy and screamy and the front is never going to grow on me. It's like two car fronts morphed into one.
Seriously, I am seeing loaded 2023 eqs 450 Plus with like 12,000 MI 46k CPO. Several Publications got 422 MI of range
Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the ugliness of the EQS like other folks do. It looks way better in person than it does on video and in photos.

In person I think it looks far worse. It looks like a throat lozenge or a suppository. Absolutely nothing about it says S klass.

If I would buy a 100k+ car I would expect to be able to use all of it all the time

The 48 hour DC fast charge limit? That doesn’t sound like it performed well at all. As someone cross shopping these two cars, this has ruled out the BMW for me. Go Mercedes

To be honest, BMW Tech's is better, but you can find that interior even in BMW 2 series also, but damn the Mercedes that interior is unique and that big range you can't even find on gasoline cars if you getting S class, thanks guys for this comparison

We tested both and love the looks of i7 but enjoyed the opening sunroof of the EQS

But they're "oh so premium". They're making these cars for a specific public: the Chinese wealthy. They want gaudy looking cars with as many lights as possible. It has to look extravagant, and overstyled.

Thing to note at least with all Mercedes at 11:25 the sticker above the door latch (or in the fuel door) is actually Mercedes OEM recommended tire pressures (pretty sure its low 40s all around for EQS Sedan), usually lower then the DOT sticker that was pointed at, common issue we see at the dealer when tires are put on by any 3rd party is they read that DOT sticker and not the black Mercedes one
Mercedes also has a secret workshop menu you can access with a funky steering wheel sequence that will show HV (or 48v) data on applicable cars, voltage, amperage, SOC, temperature and wont go away from the stupid dont drive message!
So that means with the new 118kWh battery, the EQS should be able to do about 450mi maintaining highway speeds
Yes, it also has a heat pump and new motor/inverter technology. I own an EQS 580 and definitely considering an upgrade to the new model.
@@SebastiánMinich doesn't have a new motor and inverter just yet but they added a clutch to the front motor a year or so ago so now the AWD cars do almost the same range as the RWD.

@@Wasabi9111 Model Year 25 (Or Change Year 2024/1 in Europe) improved the efficiency of regen breaking if I remember correctly. I don't know if that means it comes to a full stop.

I feel like we haven't received nearly as much OOS content all around like they used to. GM joined the SC network weeks ago now, and Kyle has yet to talk about it. He's typically one of the first to talk about things like that. They got a new EV6 from their Kia dealership weeks back as well, and they haven't had any more content with that yet. Also, waiting to see what wrap they will do for the Cybertruck. And yes, Francie??

Francie stopped doing daily podcasts but will still be on the channels with VinFast updates and road trips. She had some projects she wanted to work on outside of out of spec. We are rebooting the podcast soon… patience people!! We have been filming like crazy some epic drives

I don't know what's wrong with me but I love the way the i7 looks inside and out. I've been inside an EQS a few times and it's quite nice but weirdly much nicer in the front than the back, even at night. Wherever you sit, the infinity screen looks like a giant bezel. I'd love to experience a i7 one day

Had my first EV experience at the weekend. Needed a small van to pick up a Himiway long range e-bike. Got given a Mercedes e-Vito medium van with 60kw/h battery pack and 84kw charging. Provided by the rental company with 23 miles of range. 15 miles and 35 minutes later, got 102 miles more. Later that day and 30 minutes, added another 80. Sunday initially was a nightmare, early / small rural charging stations 4off, (2x50kw) and were members only. EV dot wouldn’t even accept a 20 digit apple password as being too simple?????? Hypermiled the last 11 miles to a main road charger, got there with 3 miles to spare, no tortoising. 15 minutes later, got 52 miles, enough to get to my appointment at 11:30 am. Then ran it to the country, ran out of range, 40mph limited performance and no miles, 0-165 miles in 75 minutes and £50. Got home with 16 miles to spare. On the whole, good experience, ropey old / early adopted charging stations. Can still surprisingly traverse deepest and darkest Wales through the mountains. Furthermore, not one queue, at least three changers vacant on both days. 😎😇
Anything over 500km is fine with me. I get 400mi from my petrol daily driver, but I can't charge that at home. Since I have a garage with a 220V outlet an EV does make a lot of sense.
Test drive everything! Enjoy researching features! Have fun and buy the best EV for you. You will never regret it. For the right use cases, going electric has no downsides.

I was driving back from Wyoming on Sunday night after taking my kiddo out to see the northern lights. I’m pretty sure that I saw the CLS on I-25 heading north as I was heading South. Fun!
Hey, Kyle a few hurcanne topics I think you should cover:
1) I see in Florida there are a lot of gas stations running out of gas. I know in NJ (where I live) that was also the case during hurricane Sandy. How are the Tesla and CCS chargers holding up in Florida?
2) I’ve read a few things about EV V2L (Type 2) | Vehicle-To-Load plugs running a house overnight and only costing the EV battery 5% of charge. I’d love to hear your thoughts on that.
There will be an i7 LCI with new batteries and the like before Nue Klasse models arrive.
I did drive the i7 Xdrive60 and it is really impressive to drive, but then you get out and you look at it (it was 2-tone red/black).
My old boss drives an EQS 580 first edition and it was also really impressive, but I never tried out the performance.
I did get a BMW i5 40e. I do prefer the looks of the i5 over the EQE. It is efficient at motorway speeds. The range on the i5 is a little less than the EQE, but I do prefer rather normal looks.
Since I am also waiting for the next generation of EV’s I took a shorter lease, so I can upgrade to the next level of technology for my next car.
As for Mercedes: the S-class is a class above the EQS. I wouldn’t get an EQS for the looks, same with the BMW 7, but I would get an S-class.
That two-toned paint job can be jarring.
The EQS is already an ugly car, but that spec is criminal, another great video!

Nobody buys an EQS without the AMG pack. This is why this spec no longer exists.
I really don't think that people buy those cars for their looks, also it's not like other EVs look amazing

I love the look of both of these cars. The rear being relatively small is what makes it disappointing. I love brown by the way.
Not sure if it's the iPhone difference or the brightness of the displays but the BMW displays seem more readable on these videos.
"Ugly cars go further" that couldn't be further from true. Lucid Air is kinda beautiful, and blocky in a sense, and still gets cx: 0.21
The 10degree rear steer in my S580 is one of my favorite features. Mercedes really built a great car, glad I chose it over the 760. I have my MSP when I need an electric thrill lol
Wow , that huge Hood of i7 without any use and that transmission tunnel..i7 must be one of the most inefficient use of volume to date.
Really good performance from the EQS. Imagine if the tests were conducted with the weight of 4 average weight humans + luggage, driven at 75mph, with the results listed as the EPA lowest range. 350 miles equaling 400+ with one person would interest more folks to go EV, of course we would want this on a car costing much less.
30:11 That gap from the front door to the rear door black trim looks bad. Also the gap of the door itself is uneven.
Kyle, Wish you put all these results in a Table at the end for all cars you tested. This gives a good comparison. You could add any notes if required, like example rain, temperature, wheel size etc.
They have a website where you can find all the results from all tests just type in google out of spec and search for their site :)

I rented a BMW iX in Europe, did a 4000mile roadtrip, hated the fact it drops charge speeds down to 30kWh after you've charged 5 times a day, what a joke. Never renting a BMW again for roadtrips.

I know this is off topic. But this is what you get with a Tesla in a disaster area. Free Supercharging, and as of 5 minutes ago all Superchargers in the hurricane areas are working and without lines. There are working Superchargers all the way up I-75 to Georgia. After the hurricane disaster is over, Tesla will move in mobile Superchargers powered by Megapacks. Does any other company do this?
End of video comment: The ranges could be better so they can be used as intended. Cruising at 130 km/h. Or ideally at 160km/h, but then the range really isn’t good.

Sad that the e drive 50 wasn't a non "M" spec. The regular bodywork with a "chrome" kidney looks loads better. Annoys me to all end that the base body work isn't an option on their top of the line, "most elegant" sedan. Baffling to force 7 series buyers into an M sport pack.

Regarding cars not making their EPA numbers, the standards for the EPA test are published (ie distance, how much throttle, stops, etc) - how does your test compare to the EPA test? The even better question is how many people drive like the EPA test?
EPA test is done inside a lab and not outside.
@@astrohgamingZero Correct, but the actual specs of the test are published, max speeds, avg speeds, distances, acceleration rates, etc. When you read them, you'll understand why basically nobody gets the advertised numbers - they don't have a 'set the cruise at 80mph for 2 hours' type test. ;)

@@otm646 ummmm, incorrect, that is entry level one now. They got rid of the RWD base model. Now they have the Long Range RWD. It now has the larger battery pack. They got rid of the one with the LFP battery.
Prefer BMW...it looks great to me... EQS... extremely ugly but make more since this then that for my uses... its the more logical choice but GOD its ugly.... LOL

Yes, the EQS is a blob, and I definitely like BMW's approach of the ICE and EV being the same car. I heard MB will be ditching the EQ thing and do that same approach. Next S Class sedan I think will be the first.
Using same platform for ICE and EV means compromises, go look at the Lucid Air, you will see how bad these EV’s are

These tests should be done till 5%, no one is going to drive that low
That is literally the whole point of this test. It's to push it to the absolute max so you can understand what the theoretical performance limits are for these cars. That gives prospective buyers or owners the information they need to explore those single digit SOC levels
