- The story is iconic, the design is iconic.
In two weeks, on October 24, 2024, Scout Motors will officially reveal the next generation of Scout vehicles to the world.
Witness the moment live at www.scoutmotors.com, and stay tuned for a behind-the-scenes look at how we are forging a new Scout era.
You know what would have been cool? Pictures on the Scout. I feel like Jeff Goldblum... "Now, eventually you're going to have dinosaurs in your dinosaur park, right?"
Reveal is in 2 weeks. Call this the teaser trailer.
Please put a gigantic battery in it, and an interior with cloth seats and rubber floors. Something you can beat on, that doesn’t cost $90k
(Morgan Freeman voice) but it had a real range of about 90 miles, an interior full of piano black and leather, was somewhat fragile, and cost over $100,000. This was to appeal to a class of consumer who more or less had disappeared after the second global pandemic.
A n ew MB G-Wagen, in other words. Hopefully, that’s not the aim. But you don’t get huge batteries and low prices. You need to consider that an EV will have few per moving parts, which is good for reliability, should be made to last a long time and will pay the initial costs back over maybe 50 years rather than ten or fifteen.
Keep the body size reasonable, so that you can sell it globally, rather than just in Texas. Stick to the original dimensions, which don’t look too bad.
$87,500 take it or leave it
Rubber floors is a must. In 2024 why are we still putting carpet inside vehicles, especially ones geared towards going into dusty dirty
environments
I hope they're just rugged, dependable, easy to repair trucks again without luxury B.S. that they don't need. And they're 25k so the working man can actually save up and buy one outright without having to finance like everything else in life these days. The big companies are all equally raising their prices so ridiculously high out of greed not inflation.
Excited that this is happening only wish my Dad was still alive to see it. 🙏🏼
REALLY looking forward to this. The world needs more Scouts!
You might not be so excited if you knew their parent company.
VW?
I was working on improvements for forthcoming Scouts in 1980 when it was discontinued so I am excited to be able to witness its resurgence, yet from afar.. The best of luck Scout Motors!!
I truly hope it is the rebirth of a rugged American icon.
It has been confirmed to be electric
It's a damn EV.
Easily remedied.
Electric is much more rugged than ICE; unfortunately, mass-manufacturers build overpriced, overcomplicated junk.
Stoked!
Sounds a lot like Rivian…
Your vehicles look SO damn AWESOME. Badass old school classic design, with current tech. I hope your company succeeds in every possible way.
I don't think people car about EVs anymore. They just want something cheap and reliable
Please, please, PLEASE....Dont' let this be another "lifesyle" vehicle. Scout's and especially International pickups, were the tough, go-anywhere, nigh invincible workhorses of their day. I hope you earn and continue that legacy, in EV form!
I was equally excited about the simplicity of the bollinger b1, that all went away the moment they released the price tag 😢
Yes please!
I work in the old plant in Fort Wayne. We can't wait to see it, just wish it was built in it's homeplace.
LET’S GOOOOOOO
My grandfather had one
Yes plizzzz
Hopefully they start out with NON EV versions and then a hybrid. I don't see an all electric scout doing well. I think a turbo'd six cylinder would be great. The 2.8L cummins might be interesting. A turbo'd 4 cylinder hybrid. A base model around high 20's to low 30's would be good starting point.
There are no more ICE vehicles coming, except sports cars & commercial utility vehicles; commuters get EVs from now on.
This is what happens when everyone is expected to drive.
I'd love to be able to buy a lightweight, affordable 2 door EV pickup truck that will actually fit into my garage and budget that's made in the USA! A solar bed cover would be a nice option, too.
There was an attempt 😂 was the Alpha Wolf pickup, and it going to go belly up in no time.
Affordable ≠ made in USA
Affordable ≠ EV
Affordable ≠ pickup!
Everything you just said, entails extra costs.
A high weight-capacity world truck, costs over $8K+shipping, direct from China. Huge US pickups, are subsidized several different ways & still cost >$40K.
"Cheap EV pickup" is a contradiction in terms.
("Efficient pickup", is also contradictory; they'll never get good mileage, due to physics.)
YES
Settle down it's just an electric SUV that vaguely looks like the Original International Scout. Just imagine a fatter looking International Scout that's even more gutless than the original. It's owned by VW Group BTW, there's that to consider.
this is a good video
International even made a pickup truck.
Gotta have a range extender gas motor
Frankly, someone should just start selling a supercharger generator trailer.
💪😎
Scout Keogh
No thumbs up for this fluff piece. You could have shown some mock ups or something. This is nothing but a DEI department created waste of time. How about we focus on the vehicle instead of showcasing how you managed to include every race, sex, and age in the project.
I hate when companies announce that they’re going to announce something instead of just presenting that thing. I also really hope it’s not going to be exclusively electric. Scout is very iconic, don’t bring it back just to ruin the name like everyone else.
Builds the hype for it 😊
Is is exclusively electric. All new road vehicles that aren't a hypercar or commercial utility vehicle, will be EVs from now on. With more people driving every year, internal combustion engines would poison everyone even more quickly than EVs; we can have ICE & fewer commuters, or more commuters & fewer ICE. The only way to make ICE vehicles viable again, is to dramatically reduce the number of drivers.
this video is filmed and edited like a movie trailer, and the news they are bringing certainly warrants that.
I'm excited to see this coming together. Now, as we already have the $60K+ niche truck market covered with tons of options, let's hope Scout is positioned for today's economy and value expectations. Ahem, $40K.
They’re doing EVs. They will have to sell at $60k and tell you to “get the rebate”
Please make it with a at least 400 miles of range, cloth seats and rubber floors with a price tag of $35k max. For gods sake make an actual EV truck that isn’t a pavement princess.
Unfortunately, the Bronco starts at 40k now and that's an ICE vehicle. The Scout has to be more expensive than that to afford the EV battery.
I expect Scout pricing to range from 45k-65k, which isn't what any of us want to hear, but probably realistic.
@@MineGames131 I know it’s wishful thinking. But imagine how well you’d do if you made a vehicle that’s actually meant for the every man instead of a toy for people with money to throw away
EV? No thank you.
another 120k solution to a 28k probem
It’s not American owned any more is it?
EV - How to ruin a great project where a small battery hybrid would have rocked.
The real roots were the Willy's jeep.
You're starting at the wrong point and then you era going in the wrong direction.
VW + Rivian = rebadged R2???
Enough with the brand stuff and teasers... let's see a vehicle, delivery date and pricing. And a plan to deliver a servicing network (what Rivian has really struggled to do adequately and is for me a bar to purchase as they won't sell to buyers in my zipcode).
And yes I know Scout is VW owned, so it is different than Rivian and can rely on existing VW infrastructure. Scout's planned 200,000 units a year would increase VW sales in US by more than 50%, so that would result in a need for hugely improved servicing capacity.
The interesting thing you just mentioned is rivian who Vw just threw 5 billion at to partner with
Brought to you by Volkswagen
True the money comes from them, but VW wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the US rebuilding them from the ground up after WW2. They are returning the favor.
Like they did with clean diesel, shit service and overpriced ‘German engineering’ for the last 3 decades?
Owned by VW.......
EV, no thanks
Ev’s don’t have the sound, which to me is all part of the driving experience. I am curious how this will turn out.
Everyone around you hates your engine sound. Dont be so selfish.
@@hkad6252 loud pipes save lives
I love driving my ev in the woods because I get to hear nature
Goes both ways! I love a great-sounding motor, but most motors don’t sound great. I love the sweet silence of my EV, too, compared to the muffled clunkiness of most undertuned, underpowered cars.
Don't be an EV. Please god don't let it be an EV...
Make it nice simple and cheap please we love you no ev
Love it. Hopefully we'll see a diesel and gas version!
Would be ideal, but don't hold your breath. They are ALL-IN on EV production. Makes me sad.
@@AliensWanted same. Zero interest in that crap. Lol
@@69dieselscout skill issue
@@Volkswagen_Yeetle what?
EVs are better in every way. More torque, simpler, more reliable, quieter, no smell, the engine can brake, stop, spin backwards. It is the size of a watermelon and has one moving part.
And charging is much faster than pumping gas. Plug in, walk away. I have never waited for my EV.
Very cool. ICE option too I hope
Disappointingly, they have pledged a full EV only platform. Since the scout is on a brand new platform, they would basically have to design the truck twice to have an EV and ICE option. I really hope they reconsider their goals since EV adoption has gone down, but their new manufacturing facility has only one assembly line. Usually it is not possible to build an EV and ICE platform on the same line because the designs are so different.
Honestly, if it's going to be EV, it probably will fail. Right? If it's EV, whats the difference between this and rivian or fisker? No one really wants an off-road EV.
I do; I just have no need for a _luxury_ off-road SUV; the battery pack & motor controller, should be the only expensive things on it.
Scout should partner with Toyota and offer up a hybrid option!!!… it’s real ironic Scout is rolling out in South Carolina which definitely doesn’t have a eV infrastructure at all.
A bunch of office execs pointing at stuff? What is this video? Not how you build hype. Just release the concept and the likely short-range and overpriced battery
nothing iconic about an only EV lineup Should of built as both EV and Gas oh well
Well that was pointless
Please don't be an EV! I'd be ok with a hybrid but a pure EV for this kind of truck won't work.
Scouts are awesome, especially the Scout 2. This is a great idea, but please make it a gasoline ICE, Internal Combustion Engine. EVs are junk. Most adventurous outdoor people that love Scouts don’t love EVs.
ICEs are dead.
I don't think they'll be able to change it from EV to ICE in two weeks time ;)
This is EV only, so it's DOA.
If they make a hybrid at some point, maybe they can save the brand.
$10 says they just slap an IPad in the middle of the dashboard and are going to trying to steal Bronco sales. It’ll be a flop.
I heard they're going with a kindl dash. They're innovators after all.
Put a ICE power train in it, make it reasonably priced and you'll sell as many as you can build.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news. Neither of those two things are happening.... Sad day for a Scout fan.
Please get a diesel motor in it!
Just buy a Rivian!
Not to be mean, but some of these guys seem pretty full of themselves
If you go electric - at least offer a range extender 🎉
Hate to say it, but if it's EV only I just don't think it's going to happen.
Hope it's not an EV.
Of course it's an EV.
Unfortunately, it's an overly complex & therefore overpriced EV, with more focus on upsell, than on range. EVs don't have to suck; cheap EVs are kicking butt & racking up miles... Mass-manufacturers are just unwilling to make sturdy simple vehicles.
Can’t be “Scout Motors” unless you have a _real motor_ ! What a waste of potential. Do the right thing and put in an ICE. At least try to do hybrid.
I am very intrigued...and while I'm sure my comment will be hated by many, please, not another prima dona electric vehicle that will really only be relevant in southern cities.
EVs are a lot more rugged than combustion cars. They have one moving part, dont need a transmission or clutch.
By far the biggest problem with all vehicles is electrical gremlins, and an all-electric vehicle is the worst. Battery technology is too delicate for what an off-roader does.
It's not a Scout if it's not built in Fort Wayne Indiana
Why no asians in the video?
And NOTHING.......................
So to summarize....its an EV....it'll fail.
If you don't have fornt and rear solid axles don't even bother, the Scout was first and foremost a rugged 4WD vehicle, if your new version is an iFS and/or IRS electric POS, you ruined the brand
