If you bought an S24 Ultra or Plus, how are you liking the phone? I did not expect to like my first Samsung phone this much. There are a few things that could be improved (shutter lag!) but it’s still one of the best phones on the market.
I'm curious about whether a 3rd party camera app would improve the shutter auto config issue. (I used to use OpenCamera on my old stock android devices when I wanted more options) There are also suggestions online to install good lock from the galaxy store and add the 'camera assistant' plugin which has processing speed options.
Really enjoyed the "hands on" review with everyday examples. I think if Samsung has software updates to fix the problems this would be a really killer phone
I've had many generations of Samsung flagship phones and with the s24 ultra I for the first time don't experience any shutter lag at all and I'm comparing this to the iphone 15 pro max so that's a bit odd. I however fully agree on the speaker part that there's a big difference in sound quality between the s24u and the iphone 15pm where the latter is the clear winner.
Ultra man! The reason I finally upgraded my old Samsung to this S24 ultra was it finally felt worthy of it! The thing that keeps me with Samsung is that you can do the Samsung ecosystem, but you're not tied to it like with apple because it's universal. That's the selling point for me.
There is a setting to make the camera faster. Go to camera settings and there is a feature where it analysis the scene and enhances the image... There are 3 options to change the enhancement level and an option to turn of enhancements all together, making the camera instant. The options uses AI to analyze he scene and enhance the image i.e food photo or landscape or portrait.
@@sahilveersingh9980 euaheuaheuaeh I was thinking of that... imagine going through the PHONE config to set the camera... it makes me lazy just thinking about it
@@sahilveersingh9980What's there to expect. The fact that you have to do this on a $1300 phone to make the camera usable is absolutely ridiculous. As a s24 ultra user, iPhone is undoubtedly better in this regard.
I purchased the s24 ultra last week, I have sold my iphone 15 pro max and apple watch ultra. I was stuck in the apple eco system but have now escaped I still have my m3 mac and ipad pro. the samsung phone has so many more feature and way more custimisable glad I made the move !
Even though you turned Atmos on, use the EQ setting to manually adjust the audio to suit your ears (or to make it sound like your Iphone 15). Samsung packs heaps of audio settings into their phones, spent some time in the sound settings to get the best results!
I use the function that adapts the sound to my particular ears. It's a few minutes of listening to beeps in my ear buds but once done my phone knows exactly what my hearing needs and I notice the difference right off.
As an apple fanboy, I have to say the camera quality of this really impressive! If it wasn’t for the whole apple ecosystem that I’ve already got used to, I will just switch to Samsung in a heartbeat!! 📱 Thanks for the review, great one as usual 👌
Apple ‘s corporate strategy consciously get people to get hooked to their eco system like addictive drugs, not that it’s a bad thing perhaps since I their eco system is so good.
I was fully in the Apple ecosystem but have switched my phone to S24U and classic 6 watch. Some getting used to having a phone that stands outside the rest of my gadgets but I am actually getting to like it. Obviously it depends on your usage, I am not really a big air drop user and being in the UK don't give a stuff about imessage or facetime, other options are so very much available.
You should really look into the Samsung ecosystem which is far bigger that you think. Aside from the usual (tablet, watch, buds) I have integrated almost 100 different smart devices around my house that integrates into the factory OS with Smartthings. I have a Samsung vacuum, Samsung washer/dryer, Samsung fridge, and Samsung television that all communicate with ecosystem, smart buttons to control lighting, custom automation that helps with my home business, temperature humidity and proximity sensors, water leak detection, etc. You can even create a diagram/floor plan of your house and it superimposes all of your smart devices into each room and floor and you have one touch access to control and monitor everything. Shows up on my Tab s9 when it's charging as a nifty little control panel if the user wishes to do so. Took some time to build up but so glad I did.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has the same exact 5,000mAh sized battery as the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Not sure where you heard otherwise but they're the same exact battery.

The shutter lag can be fixed in camera settings. There is a setting for shooting objects that move fast. As for the sound try the equalizer to your liking. You see you can set everything as you like on android and especially on UI 6.1
Both the shutter speed and sound can be adjusted in settings. I've never had any issues with the shutter speed and tbh the S24 Ultra is faster, shutter wise, than my previous S23 Ultra. If you want even more settings for the camera, download Good Lock and you can further make adjustments if that's your jam. The speakers on the S24 Ultra are incredibly good I'll say first off. You do nee to turn on Dolby Atmos in the dropdown settings for best sound results. You can also further adjust the sound equalizer to your custom liking if you prefer. Having owned both the S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra I can say without a doubt that the S24 Ultra speakers are phenomenal. Watched the new Road House movie trailer when I first got my new S24 Ultra and I was quite impressed with the sound with the volume at 80%. Problem with people coming from the iPhone is they aren't aware of all of the settings and tweaks you can make to truly customize the phone to your exact liking. This is one of the reasons I don't prefer the iPhone, even though it's come a long way in the last few years.....to the point that it shares many of the features Android was known for.
As an owner of S24 Ultra I can say: 1. Shutter lag can be solved with the future software update *are you sure you selected "shutter speed over quality" option ?; 2. The audio quality is super good even with no Dolby Atmos enabled ( so you are a bit subjective putting Samsungs vs. Apple, better put Samsung old devices vs Samsung new devices and compare); 3. Photo / Video quality : no more words to describe the good quality, including resolution over zoom and many options available; Feel happy with your purchase 🥰I'm gonna stick to my new phone for a good amount of time, as I am assured that 7 years of updates, and O/S versions, a good battery (which I already set it to be optimized as much as I could), aa brighter display to rock during the hot summer days even put on dark theme & still being able to see every detail in direct sunlight and a flat quality screen for larger writing S-Pen area real estate!
Awesome video! One thing i noticed: the blurry photos of slightly moving animals etc dont cone from shutter lag. Yes the phone has shutter lag but that means the photo is taken slighty later then the moment you actually press the shutter button- nevertheless the picture shouldnt be blurry. The bluriness comes from Samsungs bad algorithm not noticing a moving Objekct and therefore not using fast enough shutter speed on the picture
Go to Sounds and Vibration, then Sound quality and effects, then Equaliser. Mine, out of the box, was set to Custom. With the bass dropped and the trebles enhanced. Turn it to Normal. It sounds considerably better. It almost has a bass line.
I really like my S24 Ultra, I have had Samsung's all my life save on old old Iphone. from a Note 20 Ultra to the S24 Ultra it is a massive upgrade, there are some launch day quirks but it seems that it gets better every day. especially the camera. oh and Ultraman

Ultraman, great Netflix series and a animated movie is coming out soon I think. Great 1 month honest review, thanks for your pros and cons. I've got the titanium purple ultra coming from note 20 ultra, huge upgrade. I especially enjoy the speed upgrade but more than anything the anti reflective screen which any smartphone owner regardles of camp/flock would truly appreciate.
Ultraman!! Yeah that walled garden is nasty work lol Apple knows what it's doing.. I've had the 24U for about 2 weeks now and everything you've said is spot on. I do wish the speakers were fuller however i have a feeling that the s-pen housing is what prevents us from getting the sound quality of a iPhone 15 pro or a Pixel Fold
The shutter lag on a smartphone is categorically NOT a "big issue." I think you are talking about the speed of the aperture. You are describing taking photos of fast action sequences. I have not used an iPhone, but I doubt it is a world better than the S24 Ultra. It is a valid point, but it's not an earthshaking issue. Also, I think there are settings either in the RAW mode or the camera app that speed up the aperture for fast action sequences. Further, if you hold the camera button down, it will take "burst" mode photos in a super fast sequence. It doesn't appear that all of the S24 Ultra's AI features will be behind a paywall. We will see.
It does make me laugh that people harp on about motion blur , if it's such an issue take videos and screen shot the frames you want , you just need to hold the shutter button and it switches to video mode or use burst shots.
I have absolutely no shutter lag. I was surprised that it's as snappy as it is. You can also set it to what is essentially a servo or continuous focus mode. Have you played with that?
Quick question for all ultra users Does the size make it difficult for everyday use. Like putting it in your pocket and using it as a normal daily driver?
No. I'm a petite female and I'm always putting it in my back pocket. Love this phone. I use a magsafe case and a Snap 4 Luxe grip. No issues for my small hands. I moved up from the S22 Ultra.
I do not have any issues. I actually like the square corners because when I'm at the gym or in a position that would make my phone slide out of my pocket, it has less of a tendency to do that. I also don't have issues just normally taking it out of my pocket or jeans etc. The phone also doesn't dig into my hands...idk why people say that. They must have a death grip on it or something. Weird.
People should just buy the s23 ultra because it's pretty much the same and cheaper. But the vibration is weak compared to the s21 ultra. The s24 is not any better than the s23 ultra.
I've had my ultra since it was released and it literally never digs in my hand....idk what these people are talking about. I came from an s21u with rounded corners too. Feels no different really. The corners never touch my hand.
For me, besides the AI features, what's important are the stylus (precision is more useful for some AI actions), and the screen (less reflective and more scratch resistant). I am happy that many of the improvements have tangible values and benefits to the user, going beyond the "15% faster CPU claims."
Try out the S23 Ultra. You'll like it.. It also has excellent speakers with rich sound and good bass.. I've heard some interesting takes on S24 speakers this year.. Samsung got it all right with the S23's imo.. They get pretty loud and sound great. I use the base S23 and am very satisfied with the speaker quality..
@Ivan_Magana I have both devices also, and have to disagree with you. Speaker quality is noticeably better on the 23 Ultra. I was a little disappointed by this.
I left for Pixel after my Note 20 Ultra because of the shutter lag. Pics of our kids were coming out too blurry. They're a little older now so can hold still better, but it's crazy the same issue more or less exists. Like why not fix it and just be that more dominant?
Couple corrections: regarding lag, there are settings that allow you to change it. For those who don’t know, shutter response can be adjusted to prioritize speed, focus, or image processing. Secondly, Samsung issued a statement saying whatever AI features you currently have on your phone will remain on your phone, however capabilities introduced in the future may only be available through a paid subscription.
Traded in my Flip 4 for the S24u. Also have a Note 20 u that I cannot bear to be parted from. S24 is significantly better than the Note. Both are connected to my Google ecosystem which I have no intention of leaving- for one deal breaking reason: Google Home displays. I have two and both TVs have chromecast. It means my vacation and other pictures can be displayed on the two Google Home displays and/or TVs. There is limited link to my ageing Lenovo laptop and my Samsung tablet rarely gets switched on these days. As an iphone user, I don't think you've discovered split screen view or Secure Folder, or scroll capture yet! Oh and my 3.5 year old Note 20 u had those and object eraser too! Nice to see you're catching up with features not on any iPhone, that I use daily!!
Ultraman! 😅 Loving my S24 Ultra. That Apple ecosystem is the very reason why I haven't completely gone Apple. When you go in, it really sinks deep. Genius, but expensive!
Thanks for your review given this isn't the type of device or operarating system you normally use. I suggest over time you take a closer look at the Samsung Ecosystem, and it might surprise you of how good it is.
I found out that the issue is due to the settings I have set in the display. When I enable "Ehanced comfort" from the "Eye comfort shield" setting, during low light, blacks are no longer true black. There is a haze and graininess like there is some backlight from the display.
Samsung has its own ecosystem. It's as simple as downloading the Phone Link app from the Windows Store. Of course, I understand that switching right now would be crazy and very expensive, since you already own everything Apple, but saying that it is the only thing that holds you back is kinda sad.
so changing apple headphones, smartwatch, ipad, mac computer to windows and all samsung equivalents isn't cheap nor practical for many. Not sad at all! Be grateful for what you got!
@@mikehunt-xz8hj What's sad is that Apple ties you up to their ecosystem, so that you literally cannot switch. While Samsung (and Android in general) lets you use anything you want and it will work. You can have a Samsung phone, a Google watch, Sony headphones, and an HP laptop and still have a decent connection between everything. What's cool is that Samsung is pairing with Google to make it a standard for Android and working together with Microsoft to make connections even more seamless. Only a few years ago, it was just like Apple, everything was tied up to a "Samsung ecosystem," but nowadays it is more free and you are allowed to try out different tech.
The S23 Ultra is the best Android phone released this year. The Samsung folding phones may look cool, but if you keep a phone for 2/3 years would they survive general wear and tear? At the end of the day the Ultra has much better cameras and the brilliant S Pen built in.Plus no crease in the middle of a great screen.
I have installed work profile on my S24 Ultra and whenever I turn it on, there is a significant lag for the apps to start running. In some work case the app wouldn't open. Now I have used same work profile and apps on my previous phone Oneplus and didn't face such issue. Not sure if it is S24 issue or the work profile and apps issue.
I'm in the opposite boat. I've been in the Android ecosystem since the very beginning what now feels like 20 years ago. Couldn't leave the Android app ecosystem even though Apple phones are great. Especially since Android now integrates so well into my work windows systems.
Ultra Man, How usable this phone one handed? I often walk wirh the dogs using leash, or just have something in my other hand especially when we hike. It would great if i would be able to make one handed photos while i hike, or just reply to a message - without risking to drop the phone to the ground... I planned to go with S24+ or base model because of this, but in europe there is exynos only... As i often use mobile data and dual sim and hiking on not really covered aeras, exynos is not an option: its modems are too hungry... Now, I'm thinking to get the ultra, or just wait for xiaomi 14... I know, its not that elegant, all spec are lower, but probably better fits to my usage... What do you think?
I have average size hands and I can use one handed no problem. There is also a one hand setting that you can initiate by sliding your thumb down on the bottom of the screen to make the screen smaller and to the right or left side. Pretty slick
Washed out = natural mode. I heard samsung will be correcting this in the next update. I miss the vivid, but it's definitely not a deal breaker. This phone is outstanding. The anti reflective screen is one of my favorite features.
How did you get 2 days and 6 hours of battery life from a 90% charge? I am currently on 60% and I only have 20 hrs and 22 mins of charge left. Do you think this warrants a replacement? Hope to hear from you
Everybody uses their phone differently so battery life will be completely different . You don't even say how long you've been using it from full charge. Smh
@derekdrummond7544 it indicates I have a full charge that will last 1 day and 6 hours. I realized the guy in the video doesn't use his S24U as his primary phone. He mentions that he was an apple user at the end, hence the long battery life I guess.
@@whoistylerdurden1652 Right now i'm at 89% and it says i have 1day and 18 hours left and a full charge would last 2 days . Thats at WQHD , 120FPS , adaptive brightness and light performance profile . its still optimising to my usage as well.
Does anyone know if the Galaxy S24 Ultra has better speakers than the Note 20 Ultra? I have the Note 20 Ultra and listen to a lot of music with the external built-in speakers, and I don't want to upgrade if the S24 Ultra speakers are worse.... Let me know if you have owned both, please..
I have the S24 base model. No shutter lag on mine and you can adjust it in settings. Same with the speakers. The problem with Apple fanboys reviewing Samsung phones is they don't take the time to learn all of the customization features. It dooes tske awhile.

Weird.
Ultraman. Great to see an Aussie reviewer. 😊
I left the walled garden 10 years ago and have never looked back. The S24 ultra is hands down the best phone on the market.
Tesla phone is the best.
The pen feature is that I can not do without. I love samsung phone!
Brilliant review. Thank you
People should just buy the s23 ultra because it's pretty much the same and cheaper. But the vibration is weak compared to the s21 ultra. The s24 is not any better than the s23 ultra.
It is.
Excellent review
How bad is the corner edges digging into your palm, especially when you use it one handed? Kinda nuisance, or bothersome or else.
Didn't even notice it over the last few weeks but I like bigger phones and especially the Note lineup
So useful review, thanks ultraman! i can't wait for mine....
Welcome! Hope you get it and enjoy yours soon.
Got mine 2 days ago the camera is just mind blowing.
Everybody is complaining about the camera I don’t know who to believe 🤣🤣🤣
@@Frankcg29 oh yeh? what are they saying.. I love it except the blurry shutter issue
That's a pretty big issue though.@@marcl3765
Try out the S23 Ultra. You'll like it.. It also has excellent speakers with rich sound and good bass.. I've heard some interesting takes on S24 speakers this year.. Samsung got it all right with the S23's imo.. They get pretty loud and sound great. I use the base S23 and am very satisfied with the speaker quality..
You can adjust the speaker and it will sound better than s23U, I've got both.
@Ivan_Magana I have both devices also, and have to disagree with you. Speaker quality is noticeably better on the 23 Ultra. I was a little disappointed by this.
@@neilmcguinness4422 have you messed with the sound quality?
@neilmcguinness4422 my s24+ has better speakers than my s23+
@@neilmcguinness4422 have you checked your sound quality and effects?
I left for Pixel after my Note 20 Ultra because of the shutter lag. Pics of our kids were coming out too blurry. They're a little older now so can hold still better, but it's crazy the same issue more or less exists. Like why not fix it and just be that more dominant?
You should really try the gestures over the 3 buttons at the bottom.
Can you still take pictures using the S pen like you could on the note?
Yes
Absolutely
Love how it came out yesterday, but you've had ot for weeks. But not associated with samsung, haha. I still haven't got my pre order yet
I'm crazy about this phone. I can't stress enough.❤❤
Genius, but expensive!
it's such a handsome phone too!
does the Samsung Camera Assistant help?
thanks Andrew
ultraman. Really great enjoyable review
Thanks for your review given this isn't the type of device or operarating system you normally use. I suggest over time you take a closer look at the Samsung Ecosystem, and it might surprise you of how good it is.
Appreciate the recommendation! Definitely exploring S24 and the Samsung ecosystem further 👍
Are you still using this phone?
What do you think of the grainy screen issue? Its very noticeable in dark environments and when the phone brightness is low.
I found out that the issue is due to the settings I have set in the display. When I enable "Ehanced comfort" from the "Eye comfort shield" setting, during low light, blacks are no longer true black. There is a haze and graininess like there is some backlight from the display.
For the shutter lag if you go into camera settings you can turn off photo optimization and it will be on par with the iPhone
Camera assistant changes the shutter issue you seem to have. Easy change.
Need to make another video after February 22, 26 when Samsung drops an update for the camera and many other things.
Use burst mode for best picture. That's why it's there. Spatial audio is a gimmick. Definitely not sound quality.
What about heating issue while using camera and other apps??!!
You the only one having that shutter lag issue.. I don’t get any of that or heard anyone else saying it…
Ultra Man,
How usable this phone one handed?
@@Yielar1 Thx!
Actually you can tweak the sound of S24U at the sound and notification setting
Goodlock app solves the shutter issue or atleast remedies it
How about the washed up screen? Have you noticed it?
Washed out = natural mode. I heard samsung will be correcting this in the next update. I miss the vivid, but it's definitely not a deal breaker. This phone is outstanding. The anti reflective screen is one of my favorite features.
And it's really not that bad, the screen is still amazing, so I wouldn't let that hold you back.
13:08 nice shootin
The new speakers on the S24 Ultra are actually way better compared to the S23 Ultra.
The shutter lag is just processing and can be eliminated from the camera settings.
I agree… pictures are often blurry with slight movements
@bigd7696 that’s what is frustrating for lambda users like me..unable to play with options
It looks like a cool phone! I love Samsung and I own an S22 Ultra myself.
hi, will the ai translate also be behind a pay wall?
Go to these settings to fix the shutter speed. Camera > settings > camera assistant > Quick Tap Shutter
You can adjust the eq on this phone to improve the sound
Does anyone know if the Galaxy S24 Ultra has better speakers than the Note 20 Ultra? I have the Note 20 Ultra and listen to a lot of music with the external built-in speakers, and I don't want to upgrade if the S24 Ultra speakers are worse.... Let me know if you have owned both, please..
Yes. They're better BUT it's a slight difference. Enoughbto know that it does sound better so definitely not worse. It's just not a huge leap
S24❤❤ultra
I hope Samsung is watching this video and takes cues for improvement.
Side note, Loving the G Shock 😅
No lag on my S24 Ultra camera!!
Settings you changed?
@@generalj9007 I just changed settings to what people in RUclips videos said to try.
Which was what, can you please tell me thanks 🙏
I have the S24 base model. No shutter lag on mine and you can adjust it in settings. Same with the speakers. The problem with Apple fanboys reviewing Samsung phones is they don't take the time to learn all of the customization features. It dooes tske awhile.
Plz make a in-depth camera video about galaxy s24 ultra ❤
I can't get over how heavy it is. I went from a s9+ to s24 ultra and I feel like I'm carrying around a brick. Great phone but glad I got it.
I pre-ordered mine and it doesn’t come in until another 20 days
@bigd7696 mine was titanium black 1tb
@bigd7696 mine is black titanium 1tb
Go into settings and turn off intelligent mode turn it to minimum and then that'll fix your shutter lag problem .
13:43 5565 mAh? Huh Not 5000?
Google AI on Samsung device wil be with subscription by 2025? I am not worried about that. Everything is going to be with subscription by then.
Is this video shot on your new FX6 rig? Looks clean
Some clips yes! Still getting the hang of the FX6 workflow :)
In other words S24 Ultra is essentially use to make money come in while iPhone basically makes your money come out 😂
One function I don’t recall you mentioned is you can actually make a phone call to people by punching in their phone number on the numbers key pad or look a person up in the phone’s contact list and make a phone call and using your voice to communicate with people by talking 😄.
Who would ever want to do that?
Love watching cinematic reviews of gadgets I’m waiting to get delivered!
Enjoy the new phone when it arrives!
I wonder why most ppl claimed that they used the ai voice translation but diddnt mention that it fails to translate "slangs"
