That was a helluva plot twist in the end, what with the subscription requirement for AI features, and their proliferation across other smartphones. Very much is the same old story with Samsung; when it comes to hardware they hold their own but their software always leaves more to be desired.
I just received my Ultra 512GB in blue and I'm loving it so far. I'm upgrading from the s21 Ultra, which I've had for about 3 years ago. I'm enjoying the bump in power and the screen is noticeably better.
@@dereksalter8671mine screen from s24u had that at first to but the screen settings were standing comfort for eye modus. I changed that to normal setting and now its great.
Most people have no idea about phone specs and phone tech. I've asked 15 people in the local cafe I go to, over a period of time as an experiment, what the refresh rate of their device is and the Pixel count of the selfie camera. Most thought I was off my rocker and had no idea what I was talking about. A handful just said, no idea mate, the screen is decent and I can hear calls, that's all I care about. In other words, people just don't care or compare.
Great review as always. Only thing though - and this is not a criticism of just this review - but most that I have seen - the consensus is that this is a solid. dependable top notch smart phone that does all the things it should do really really well. BUT the criticism universally is that it is "BORING" and not much different to its predecessor. Well imho, smart phones are now like refrigerators - essential tools in our daily lives. I for one do NOT want "excitement" in my device. I want dependability, durability, functionality and a long usage period to offset that expensive initial cost. Unlike reviewers and well healed "enthusiasts" I keep my phones right up until the software updates stop. Which in my case is the Note 10+ which is now 4.5 years old and is still serving me extremely well. If the S24U is anything like the Note in the areas of dependability, durability and functionality then the 7 years of usage that I anticipate will provide the best ROI of most phones. There is no other Android phone that offers this kind of package. So yeah, more of the same is what myself and a lot of others really want.
Thank you for the review. And yes my feelings are the same about S24 Ultra. My wife has an S23 Ultra. We don't see much of a difference. She actually loves her zoom capability. She was sad to find out that now it's just a 5x.
Idk why they didn't just upgrade the 3x lens. There's more room to make that sensor bigger and higher resolution anyway so cropping to 5x or 6x for better mid range zoom would've worked well without sacrificing the 10x lens.
@@B-Rad_99 I have a Note 20 Ultra still, and tbh, even at 50x, it's damn near impossible to keep it steady enough to use. Most people don't carry tripods, so that was probably a factor in their decision. 5x just seems to be the sweet spot unless they start making thicker phones (which I'm fine with, can fit bigger batteries and cameras).
Cropping is OK, BUT ... What close to nobody seems to talk about is that a quad Bayer array will never demosaic as well as a regular one. The new periscope's advantage is actually its low-light performance. My biggest wish is actually something that will never happen (OK, Sony did it, but it was a series of pocket cameras). A super thicc phone with a single periscope that covers a 15-120 mm (FF equivalent) mm range. 80 MP. No quad Bayer. An optional 20 MP crop to stretch those 120 mm to 240 mm. Uncompressed PCM audio. And that's it.
Amazing review. I really love the way you record and edit videos which is clearly visible that it's straight out from your heart. Its really different in the best way than other videos on tech, that's the only reason I never get bored even if I have to watch back to back on your channel. Please continue making such wonderful videos. ❤
Although the new S24U has been improved in some aspects, as expected in a new project, I don't see any significant changes in the final result, even with the implementations of Artificial Intelligence. Therefore, it is not worth upgrading.
my girlfriend has the S23 Ultra and I honestly do think that the change from a 10x to a 5x is a good one. I was trying to get some faraway shots with her phone and 10x is just really annoying to fiddle with a 3x can be not enough. Having 10 and 5 would be nice for a kitchen sink approach but I think 5 is better.
It's so wild that the people of America still suffer from limited internet and Tello is "a big deal" for them. Europe has unlimited data for around 15€/month nearly everywhere with free roaming access getting more commonplace in the EU.
15-16€/kk taitaa saada Suomessa rajattoman datan, mutta noi on jotain 5-10 Mbit/s mopoliittymiä, ja silloinkin maksat erikseen puheluista ja viesteistä. Rajaton data+puhelut kunnon nopeuksilla halvimmat päälle 20€/kk.
I always worry when I am speaking to a client and it mis-translates; it will say something rude or something you should never say. I would not trust this for anything important. There are hundreds of translate apps that are mature and less of a risk and I would definitely use one of those over a new feature on the S24U.
@@30kk This is a cop out answer, but I am under no delusions about privacy. None of us have any anymore. However you can have more control over your data if you get a Pixel and run Graphene OS and De-Google it if thats a concern. I normally upgrade as i get bored. Using an s22 ultra, i didnt see anything different in the s23 ultra, and the s24 ultra is giving me the same vibes. The flat screen is nice. But, id much rather an sd card slot, head phone jack or both over AI. Especially if it becomes subscription based.
a headphone jack? you can get quality bluetooth earbuds for dirt cheap. If you're spending 1300+ on a phone, you're not using some bullshit 10 dollar wired earbuds.
Honestly, their is a big jump in performance from the S22U and the S23U. I couldn't stand the heat, and battery performance of the 8 gen 1. Efficiency is the name of the game. Significantly cooler while gaming, smoother, and much longer battery life. Sure, it was a refinement, but I feel like the S24U is going to be a similar refinement, although underwhelmed as well. Im still getting it, the upgrades to the display and more natural color reproduction and battery life is enough for me to upgrade. That trade in deal is really nice too, getting the watch 6 classic for $130, that I can use towards the next watch 7. It also looks like the 5X from S24U is definetly getting better shots than the 10x optical. Still, I'm hoping samsung can keep pushing forward, I want 20x optical with ai.
I have an S22 Ultra and was thinking of pre-ordering this but then in the UK, they removed some of the best offers! WTF! I guess I'll just wait, don't really need to change my phone.
It’s funny, I’ve been going on a tear watching Michael’s videos today after not really watching since probably last May and we get another upload today... Anyways, love the reviews. Keep it up!
@@troyb6125 haha since mine is my main device and cost me a fortune, admiring it is about the extent to which I'm comfortable using it without a case on. I honestly prefer actual use with a case as I find the phone itself very slippery, especially during winter when my hands are dry. The glass is like ice.
When I received the video upload notification I said to myself here we go another S24 Ultra video coverage so I was kinda reluctant to watch it but I was sure that Mr Mobile won't produce a video with the same take and perception as "everyone else". I wasn't disappointed. :)
Between the anti-reflective screen, the chat and speech translating, the voice notes AI, hold-to-slow-mo, advanced image editing, and excellent battery life, there's a lot to like here, but that screen is just too large to comfortably fit in my pocket, especially while sitting down. Do you plan to review the regular S24?
Your reviews are the best, hands down. I usually skip most phone reviews, but yours? I'm always hyped to watch them. It's like diving into a really good book.
I have to say I love your videos and reviews MrMobile, you Mrwhostheboss, Flossy Carter Mkbhd and Max tech are my favorite youtubers for reviews on tech thanks for all your hard work
I don't understand the 3x 10MP though. The 1x 200MP still has more pixel count (22 MP) at 3 times zoom and still has native 4k (12 MP) at 4 times. If those 200 MP are so inferior that you wouldn't pit them 2 to 1 binned then they aren't worth implementing.
@@Rr-j4x I agree that it's good but I'm very used to samsung's software, can find the S23 Ultra used for 200-300 less here in Italy and you're right, I do need the s-pen :V
Not at the moment, unless you like scratches and lots of visible wear on your year old phone. Used ones in decent shape are still $900 give or take. Maybe later this year?
@@BWM135 I can find used "like new" ones for 700 no problem here in Italy, my "issue" right now is that my Note 20 Ultra is still going perfectly so I really don't need to change at all xV
I agree with your closing statement that this years 24 Ultra is too expensive for what it offers. Coming from a Galaxy S22+, pre-launch I was targeting the S24 Ultra this time around. However, the $100 price increase really threw me off. Not to mention, the S24+ got huge upgrades (1440p LTPO display, 4900mah battery, 12gb RAM, 1.6x larger vapor chamber) and is basically a S24U but without the boxy design, no spen, and worse cameras for $300 less. And since this S24+ will be my secondary phone, I cant see the reason to fork over $300 just for the boxy design and spen (although I really would like to have those). Maybe when the S26 Ultra comes out ill see if I jump to the Ultra then.
@@GH0STST4RSCR34M the only device I WOULD consider an upgrade is the 24Plus since Samsung didn't shit out this year like they have before...it's actually worth it now...but yeah aside from that it saint worth it.
I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max one terabyte and I can honestly say it feels like my iPhone 13 Pro Max which felt like my iPhone X there’s only so long that we can buy the same phone over and over again before we think to ourselves. What the heck are we doing And the phone like the Samsung S 24 ultra is really pushing the pace of innovation and also has great AI and seven years to support. This is exactly what android needed to grow. I’m contemplating leaving Apple ecosystem as I’m currently bored to tears Apple never innovates to wear thin on me.
I don't disagree with anything presented here, but I am still delighted with my upgrade from an S21 Ultra with a cracked screen. And those upgrade incentives you mentioned even apply to my damaged trade-in.
My S21 Ultra still has great battery life. I just wish the camera took photos like my Pixel 2 XL did. The colors and dynamic range just do strange things sometimes. I took a photo of a cigar sitting on my blue bed and it looks like vomit no matter what combo of HDR and scene optimization I turn on and off.
I was also split between S23U/S24U but ibwent for the latter in the end becausr its capable of videoing 4K at 120p. This enables me to upscale my video's quality in the future
I wish they had added the 5x camera instead of replacing the 10x and made all the cameras better. Evolution has been so slow that if you have the S21 Ultra you have absolutely NO REASON to upgrade yet!
Just noticed I've been holding my breath even after watching the reviews from Marquez Brownlee and Mr whosetheboss... your reviews are like therapy sometimes... 😊 (The Complete Package from Mr mobile... Michael Fisher.)
the only reason I traded in my S23 Ultra for the S24 was because of the flat screen and they were running a deal on the Samsung exclusive colors that netted me another $150 off one of those colors, bringing my cost down to the lowest price I have ever spent on an ultra model of $379 after trade in.
switch from the s23 ultra(used for 7 months) to the s24 ultra, my initial thought was well done you have bought the same phone twice, but 24 hours in, I'm loving it, the A.i stuff is great but some stuff the Pixel 8 pro does better, I love the flat screen makes using the S-pen to select an item easier, the colour science of the camera is better, and the signal strength is one to two bars better and oh it smooth and very responsive and even better battery than the s23 ultra, It cost me around 380 pounds to swap and I dont regret it.
I had to grab that 512g S24 Ultra, which arrives tomorrow here in SE Texas 🤟 My Carrier offered me $800 for my S22 Ultra but I'm keeping my wired earbuds, lol I've been waiting on that Flat Display for years! I love Xfinity Mobile, never had an issue & I have 3 phones at $30ea truly unlimited..
This is my view on this. I love and use the S pen. I hate curved screens. I tried the Z fold 5 and the phone. It is big and when typing on a phone on the go, you need it to be manageable in one hand! On the fold you are only allowed to type on the inner screen which negates the purpose of jotting a quick note for me. I have used iphones for 6 years because of curved note screens 😢. This is for me was a no trainer to go back to the note/ultra now. I am happy with my purchase. AI or not, this is the perfect phone for me 🎉
Yup I was a fold 4 user..I didn't use the stylus because it's just the inner screen. This is perfect. I'm sure in the future they'll fix that. Also my fold 4 screen became damaged a year in. I don't want to worry about that anymore.
I love your final impressions about this phone. TM Roh has had a rather conservative regime, scared of experimenting with new ideas which might turn out to shape the mobile landscape just like DJ Koh did with large screens and foldables
I agree with your conclusion Mr Mobile. Moving from ZF3 to S24U, I feel underwhelmed, it doesn't feel worth the increased price tag. Not a fan of the Matt finish and the screen looks dull. Feel like I'm looking at an old LCD screen. Would prefer a Fold, but I've had issues with delamination, and ZF5 doesn't seem to be offering that much more innovation considering its cost. Oneplus Open looks good, but carriers don't stock it.
What's funny, shadows and reflections eraser present even on my S10e (you might need to unlock it via Labs) and I used them quite a bit, works very well. They just rebranded it as "AI", even if it got improved. What I'd rather pay a subscription for is new Android updates to keep phones relevant as long as possible. Older flagships are way more powerful than newer budget/mid-tier phones that get newer Android versions. Plus, actually would help an environment.
I wonder what else is there to innovate in phones? The processors always get better, the cameras always get better, the speakers, batteries, touch responsiveness, screen, etc. There is a limit to how much better you can make current features, but what new features can you put into a phone? There's the folding phones that allow you to have a normal phone at a smaller carrying size, or carry a larger phone at a normal size. Yeah software always gets better or invented, but those aren't necessarily phone-exclusive. I mean you can pay with a phone (by moving it over a machine), you can pay with a watch, one day we might be able to pay with a laptop.
Something I don't understand: If there's a toggle to make all the AI stuff compute locally on the device, what will the subscription be for in the first place?
Such an honest review on the phone. I know a lot will say otherwise as they are into the new model and features, but for practical users/consumers, the newer model is not that impressive. They are updates rather than upgrades which is good but not worth it. And with this, I can't wait for the S25 series.
On-device translation is great, especially when you’re overseas and don’t want to rely on a local carrier. But what would impress me is a fundamentally better battery technology, instead of all the gimmicks which are cool but I won’t use much in the real world.
Just got mine in titanium green. I totally agree with what you had to say. I hope they really optimize things this year with AI and eventually use their own models.
Best S24U review 🔥 I do not feel we'll feel the same way about the s24U throughout the whole year as we did in 2023 with S23U. Because the hardware is basically the same except the screen.
@@aexetanius Thay said it would be a software update, but if not the phones can be returne under warranty. I don't want to keep my s24u if thay can't fix it. Right now, my S23U feels like the newer phone.
@@JohnSmith-ef8nr If the issue lies with a faulty panel, they are going to insist on opening the phone and replacing the panel under warranty. I won't accept having an incompetent technician open it, decreasing the value and compromising the integrity of the phone (which has happened before). @@aexetanius You should repot the issue to samsung, the more people that hassle them the better. The thing is, we have 14 days to return, I think it's unlikely the issue will be fixed before then. @@dereksalter8671 my screen is amazing and there's nothing washed out about it. Where did you hear about the screen issues?
I don't see the point of upgrading my S21U yet. Everything works as intended, power is plenty enough, battery is ok for the day!
@@TheSkyline35 that's great! Yeah, if you're cool with the S21 still, no need to upgrade.
The 7 years' worth of updates is already worth it, IMHO
As someone with an S21 Ultra, I just can't justify the purchase price of $1300. I'll keep waiting.
Thanks Michael for a solid review in a sea that look more like pid ads than reviews. Your take and honesty I really appreciated
I agree. The periscope camera is the single biggest camera in the phone, and adding an extra one feels like it would be a bad tradeoff.
I love the 10x. Hate to see it go 😞
9:11. Yo what?? I've been watching Techisode TV for YEARS now. Awesome to see Eric get some recognition!
Not in Germany tho... 😅
Ummm Tello isn't a "big deal" here. lol
You need to edit the colour selections. There is numerous colourful options to choose from including gold, orange, green and voilet.
yeah, the conversational translation that you did with that spanish speaker wasn't that good either to be honest
Haha what do you mean? It was perfect translation
@@aiming2shootI’m a fluent speaker and it wasn’t perfect lol
I always worry when I am speaking to a client and it mis-translates; it will say something rude or something you should never say. I would not trust this for anything important. There are hundreds of translate apps that are mature and less of a risk and I would definitely use one of those over a new feature on the S24U.
I was waiting for your Samsung S24 Review ❤
I ordered the OnePlus 12 for several reasons, but Samsung knocked it out of the park this year with the Ultra. Looks like an awesome phone!
Are you worried about the one plus pinging back to China at all? I’ve read the Chinese versions do but unsure of the global version.
@@30kkso samsung phones don't "ping" back to Korea? 😂😂
@@nero_redqueen I’m not talking about the Samsung phone at all, I’m just curious about the oneplus. Up your reading comprehension little guy.
@@30kk This is a cop out answer, but I am under no delusions about privacy. None of us have any anymore. However you can have more control over your data if you get a Pixel and run Graphene OS and De-Google it if thats a concern.
The US government spies on us without warrants, businesses steal and sell our data, even your ISP and cell carrier sell your data to the highest bidder and we are largely powerless without people in government that advocate for our rights like the do in the EU.
But if my OnePlus phones home, I would be disappointed in the company, but I also wouldnt lose any sleep over a low social credit score halfway around the world.
@@marcochavanne I hear you on the privacy these days. I just try to stay clear of really unideal ones. I really like everything that oneplus has to offer, just not a fan of CCP.
This wasn't just an S24 Ultra, review... This was an Ultra Review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with a bit of story telling,.. As always, one of the best in the business..
@DABK2024 no, but you could be using some $2k headphones?
Usb c sound just as good as 3.5mm.
I've owned S105G 3.5mm, note20ultra and now s22ultra, and the AKG usbc headphones sound very good.
@@TheKwod ah, my bad.
Didn't realise you could use usb c to charge and listen at the same time.
Keep it up!
Thanks for the unbiased, real review!!!! Some youtubers can't deliver that!!!
While I love my Pixel 8 Pro, the boxy sharp edges of the Ultra series is a design I will always be drawn to.
It certainly stands out. I've got the S23 Ultra and I still take it out of the case occasionally just to admire it.
Im waiting for my S24 ultra, and im currently using the S23 ultra caseless and it’s been a joy to use.
@@troyb6125 haha since mine is my main device and cost me a fortune, admiring it is about the extent to which I'm comfortable using it without a case on. I honestly prefer actual use with a case as I find the phone itself very slippery, especially during winter when my hands are dry. The glass is like ice.
It's about as practical as square wheels.
When I received the video upload notification I said to myself here we go another S24 Ultra video coverage so I was kinda reluctant to watch it but I was sure that Mr Mobile won't produce a video with the same take and perception as "everyone else". I wasn't disappointed. :)
Always a pleasure to watch your reviews and as usual, I don't need to watch any other videos for S24 ultra. Thanks!
I have to say I love your videos and reviews MrMobile, you Mrwhostheboss, Flossy Carter Mkbhd and Max tech are my favorite youtubers for reviews on tech thanks for all your hard work
Excellent review, you've given me confidence to not worry about the cameras, and boy those software features are pretty nice too.
I'm so happy the S24 Ultra released with AI as its main feature, now I can buy the S23 Ultra used for half the price :)
oneplus 12 is way better than s23u if u dont need the spen
@@Rr-j4x I agree that it's good but I'm very used to samsung's software, can find the S23 Ultra used for 200-300 less here in Italy and you're right, I do need the s-pen :V
😂😂😂
Not at the moment, unless you like scratches and lots of visible wear on your year old phone.
Used ones in decent shape are still $900 give or take. Maybe later this year?
@@BWM135 I can find used "like new" ones for 700 no problem here in Italy, my "issue" right now is that my Note 20 Ultra is still going perfectly so I really don't need to change at all xV
I miss the Galaxy S3 and S4 era. That was such a fun time (excluding TouchWiz) compared to now.
You're better off getting the 23 ultra for cheaper. And if you already have one then I suggest you stick with it
@@GH0STST4RSCR34M the only device I WOULD consider an upgrade is the 24Plus since Samsung didn't shit out this year like they have before...it's actually worth it now...but yeah aside from that it saint worth it.
the cameras are always a big reason why many upgrade, so if that's not as important to you, $300 less is what you should do
Mr. Mobile reviews will always be the first ones I watch on any product.
What Samsung needs to do is remember who they were and being back phones like the S5 where you got more features, not less
Great review. I agree with your conclusion. I see no reason to give up my pixel 8 pro any time soon.
I don't disagree with anything presented here, but I am still delighted with my upgrade from an S21 Ultra with a cracked screen. And those upgrade incentives you mentioned even apply to my damaged trade-in.
Watching from my S21 Ultra :) Thinking whether to upgrade or wait for the S25.
Don't... Not worth it
My S21 Ultra still has great battery life. I just wish the camera took photos like my Pixel 2 XL did. The colors and dynamic range just do strange things sometimes. I took a photo of a cigar sitting on my blue bed and it looks like vomit no matter what combo of HDR and scene optimization I turn on and off.
@HAFBeast91 brother pixel 2 cameras are garbage as freak dont even bother comparing pixels cameras to iphones and samsung cameras 😂
I was also split between S23U/S24U but ibwent for the latter in the end becausr its capable of videoing 4K at 120p. This enables me to upscale my video's quality in the future
Your vid made me fall in luv with this phone... What a great content !!! Bravo amigo bravoo!! Pure bliss
Watch it in 4k!!
The best tech reviews out there, with real life examples and use cases. Thank you, sir!!!
Too grumpy.
I wish they had added the 5x camera instead of replacing the 10x and made all the cameras better.
Evolution has been so slow that if you have the S21 Ultra you have absolutely NO REASON to upgrade yet!
Honest review. I'm upgrading from a Note 20 and I have to say, the difference is immense.
In what ways?
I am as well, got a killer upgrade deal for pre-order as well. I'll come back to this comment once mine actually arrives
Which carrier
switch from the s23 ultra(used for 7 months) to the s24 ultra, my initial thought was well done you have bought the same phone twice, but 24 hours in, I'm loving it, the A.i stuff is great but some stuff the Pixel 8 pro does better, I love the flat screen makes using the S-pen to select an item easier, the colour science of the camera is better, and the signal strength is one to two bars better and oh it smooth and very responsive and even better battery than the s23 ultra, It cost me around 380 pounds to swap and I dont regret it.
No brainer
It’s such a good phone ❤
Looolll, the s23 ultra is literally one software update away from being the same phone.
You wasted your money 😂
yearly phone updates are stupid. the s23 is still good enough to use for most people until 2027 or whenever the security updates stop@@samo6083
That set up for the sponsor was the best example of subversion of expectations I've possibly ever seen
I had to grab that 512g S24 Ultra, which arrives tomorrow here in SE Texas 🤟
My Carrier offered me $800 for my S22 Ultra but I'm keeping my wired earbuds, lol
I've been waiting on that Flat Display for years!
I love Xfinity Mobile, never had an issue & I have 3 phones at $30ea truly unlimited..
Great upgrade from the S23. I wonder what's in store for the S25 and beyond?
I don't think the subscription will materialise. Until they actually say and tell prices I'm sceptical
I appreciate you keeping it simple and cool in your videos while others are trying too hard to entertain the tiktok generation.
Always the best Phone reviews from Michael.
One of the world's very best tech reviewers. 5 star as always Michael.
Have they improved the "slow" shutter speed yet? P.S. I'm digging the synthwave Michael
The BetterHelp fakeout was top notch 😂 👌🏾
On-device translation is great, especially when you’re overseas and don’t want to rely on a local carrier. But what would impress me is a fundamentally better battery technology, instead of all the gimmicks which are cool but I won’t use much in the real world.
Just got mine in titanium green. I totally agree with what you had to say. I hope they really optimize things this year with AI and eventually use their own models.
You're very good at reviewing. the way you review is so unique it's like a PBS show it's great. So refreshing compared to others.

Best S24U review 🔥
I do not feel we'll feel the same way about the s24U throughout the whole year as we did in 2023 with S23U. Because the hardware is basically the same except the screen.
The Star Trek VI movie reference at 00:11:58 "We is comdemning food" killed me. Haha.
If they're adding backplates, then it probably means that the design for next year is going to be the same
The S24U has a fault where the Vivid colour mode dosnt work.
Samsung is aware of the issue and said its covered under warranty.
Warranty? Is it a hardware issue?

@@JohnSmith-ef8nr If the issue lies with a faulty panel, they are going to insist on opening the phone and replacing the panel under warranty. I won't accept having an incompetent technician open it, decreasing the value and compromising the integrity of the phone (which has happened before). @@aexetanius
You should repot the issue to samsung, the more people that hassle them the better.
The thing is, we have 14 days to return, I think it's unlikely the issue will be fixed before then.
Updates take a long time to test, and then released slowly in different regions incase there's more problems.
