  • A loving tribute to the great Bernard Cribbins, who sadly passed away in July 2022 at the grand age of 93. Over a near 80-year career, Bernard was a welcome presence in the lives of generations of fans.
From his wonderful work on Jackanory and The Wombles, where his distinct voice and gentle manner endeared him to millions of younger viewers, to his many memorable film roles such as in The Railway Children and TV appearances such as Doctor Who and even enjoying success in the pop charts, Bernard Cribbins was the very definition of the term national treasure.

Somehow what (laughingly) passes for "talent" today doesn't come to close the legends like Bernard Cribbins. He could do it all....act (serious and comedy), sing dance, write, compose music. And on top of that he was a gentleman. When the last of his generation of artists are all gone, the world will be a sadder and more boring place.

No scandals, no drink problems, no adultery, just a life giving pleasure to millions with a personality that inspired affection and even love. There aren't many who could claim that.
Sleep well Bernie, say hello to Babs, Peter Sellers and the two Kennys.
The only scandal is why he didnt become a "Sir".

An absolute travesty that he never got an honour. He was a lovely man and a wonderful actor, and really nice on the commentaries on the Carry On DVDs, jovial, friendly and very knowledgeable about the films. Bernie Cribbins will always be very much missed.

Mr Cribbins' autobiography is worth a read. Not very much about his personal life but some wonderful anecdotes. Two things I picked up were that he was advised never to turn any job down, which is why he had such a variety of work, and that he was very annoyed when people did not get on with the acting and not following the script. He was never keen on Peter Sellers because of his messing about.

The first film 🎥 I saw at the Cinema was “The Railway Children.” Bernard Cribbins was very much part of my Childhood: The voice of “The Wombles.” The host of the comedy quiz “Star Turn” the pretentious hotel guest in “Fawlty Towers” and as Cuffy in “Shillingbury Tales.” Bernard Cribbins was an all round entertainer. It was sad to hear the death of Bernard Cribbins. 93 years is a great age. He will be sadly missed.💐

Sorry, I've only just got my notification for this? A very respectful tribute to a man that brought joy to all, a friendly grandad for kids and a funny friend for adults. I vividly remember the wombles and Jackonory and then years after it was first aired seeing him in Fawlty Towers as a very particular spoon salesman, an extremely versatile entertainer and expert in his craft. Superb video of the national treasure. RIP Bernard Cribbins💐❤️

What a lovely tribute! I've only recently found your channel, so I'm a bit late.
Bernard's autobiography, 'Bernard Who?' is a wonderful read, and shows how much fun he had. Something he did in the 1980's, that I remember very fondly, as it was brilliantly realised, was the TV adaptation of the Leslie Thomas novel, 'Dangerous Davies, The Last Detective'. This proved he could do anything - it's essentially a comic story, but has a couple of seriously violent moments in it, and seeing Bernard Cribbens as the dogged, but hapless Dangerous Davies, lose his temper with a very unpleasant character on a tube train, was a real eye-opener, and you could not take your eyes off him, throughout the film. Just superb.
A few years prior to that, he had played a homicidal robot, in 'Space: 1999', in the episode 'Brian The Brain'. His voice work for the character is astonishing - Brian starts out frightened, and helpless, and, as the episode progresses, turns more and more creepy and menacing, to being downright psychotic. He also played the dead captain of his spaceship, too. It's not a big, or clever episode, by any means, but Bernard Cribbens is superb. I don't think he could have been anything else, to be honest. 👍👍👍

I always thought and hoped he was immortal. My claim to fame is that my mate went round his house for tea after school one day. As for not being knighted, along with the fact that June Whitfield only got made Dame a year before her death and Bernard never got knighted and athletes only have to win a medal is the reason I refuse acknowledge the honours system. R.L.P. Bernard.

Bernard surely should have got the knighthood, after 80 odd years as a thespian, it should be compulsory after 50 years, but if you ride a bike , kick a ball, run a race, or whatever, they throw knighthood’s at them for fun, disgraceful
