This is literally a one take 7 minute scene in front of an audience where the same camera follows all of the action whilst the stars: act, conduct an orchestra, play instruments, sing, dance and perform stunts... How did they even make this?!? Bernard Cribbins is incredible. To have that talent without being bred for the profession like so many stars today and still be so genuine
A very modern feel to this segment. Fast moving, tight patter and some great little imaginative quirks. All done by 2 professional talents who knew what they were doing. 👏🏼👏🏼
I met Roy in a lift at the BBC in 1988 when i was working there as a Maintenance Carpenter ..there i was with a few tools in hand to fix some hinges on a door ...Told him how much i loved Record Breakers and how talented he was ....he thanked me and that was that ...... the wonderful Mr Roy Castle ..a Gentleman
The production values in this short section are incredible. More talent and skill in this one sketch than a whole week's viewing on BBC now, and I ain't kidding! ☹️
@@redblade8160 Well i came here just to watch 'Cribbins' But i truly hope Roy Castle also rests in peace. But maybe he was buried with his many musical instruments so he can entertain people in the next world.......if there is one?????????
Multi talented guys both....back in the day when you had to have real talent to get on TV and not just want to be famous! And both of these guys were diamonds.
I decided to watch this for a bit of nostalgia and ended up enjoying the sketch purely on its own merits. Good stuff, and, yes it shows much of modern tv in a poor light.
That’s a quality piece of entertainment! There is a lot of true talent there! Quite a stunt - I don’t think health and safety would permit that drop today. Such a tight sketch - really excellently executed. Kind of wanted Mr Castle to break into some tap - but we have that elsewhere - class act - stands the test of time!
What a wonderful sketch from two of the most loved entertainers on television! Remember the good old days of clean, quality entertainment from the BBC, because they’re few and far between these days.
I recall hearing his monologue of a journey in a railway carriage at Spring Harvest Minehead one year. The whole room was in tears listening to him. A fine gentleman and an excellent entertainer
Fantastic, when people had talent to entertain and you could see the amount of preparation which had gone into their performance in order to make it look easy
2 all time legends here, the 1st thing that came to mind was they both appeared in carry on film, Bernard in carry on spying and Roy in carry on up the Khyber. 1964 & 1968 respectively. Born in 1960 and growing up these chaps made my childhood that little bit more happier when i saw them on TV
Bernard Cribbins also in Carry On Jack. Both Cribbins and Castle are in the Peter Cushing Dr Who Dalek movies (Roy castle in Dr who and the Daleks and Cribbins in Dalek invasion earth : 2150AD)
I didn't get to see this the first time round, but like most of the footage from the year it was made, I am very pleased someone kept it, top quality entertainment like that should be viewed and preserved for all time. Great upload. R.I.P. Roy and Bernie
Whist I don’t subscribe to the three score and ten school of thought , and dislike the phrase “he had a good innings”. The wonderful Bernard Cribbins was 93 when he died, so maybe saying he was “to early” is a bit of a stretch in his case…
wow...the year I was born! God, we had some talent back then! Two amazing blokes who seemed to be part of my life: Roy was just fun and Bernard for me, WAS Jackanory and helped me with loving books! What happened to guys like this...where are the modern equivalents! Both men could seemingly 'Do' Anything : Sing, Dance, Act.... marvelous memories for which I am grateful to both these awesome men.
Yes, there are a few more on my page. There are only two whole episodes in existence, as a lot of live shows weren't even recorded in those days. I'd love to have seen them.
Two of Britain's many great 'Stars' from the time when British TV was held up as an example of how to create the world's best in entertainment, all now sadly long gone and replaced by a Dross of talentless celeb moronic drivel. Thanks for posting this little gem.
Gonna build a mountain Least I hope I will Gonna build a mountain Gonna build it high I don't know how I'm gonna do it I only know I'm gonna try Gonna build a daydream From a little hope Gonna push that daydream Up the mountain slope Gonna build a daydream Gonna see it through Gonna build a mountain and a daydream Gonna make 'em both come true Gonna build a heaven From a little hell Gonna build a heaven And I know darned well If I build my mountain With a lot of care And take my daydream up the mountain Heaven will be

Yes, more people and more TV doesn't mean more talent. I love the warm-hearted thought that went into the planning and execution of that sketch.
Bernard Cribbins was a fine actor and comedian and a great singer. He was unique and an absolute gentleman.
Your dad was a wonderful clean entertainer as was Bernard Cribbins both very much missed.
I love Cribbins, a multitalented but often underrated star. Also he was a true gentleman. R.I.P Bernard 💙🙏🙏🙏
Stephen Andrews.
Don't you want the other one to rest in peace also, or has he been resting too long already?
@@redblade8160 Well i came here just to watch 'Cribbins' But i truly hope Roy Castle also rests in peace. But maybe he was buried with his many musical instruments so he can entertain people in the next world.......if there is one?????????
Roy Castle was such a beautiful person and with Bernard Cribbins just great comedy that a few today could lean from.
Brilliant! Two marvellous entertainers. I enjoyed watching them in my childhood.
Two utter legends

Those were the days my friends….🎶 What talent, but we took it for granted. Miss the great showmen of latter days so much.
Absolutely wonderful. Would love to see more of these old shows.

Thanks James. Yes, it was just a well that the health and safety weren't around.
Both so talented, thanks, both sadly missed

Good grief these two are so young here. Very talented gentlemen.
The rehearsals that must have gone in to this seemingly free-flowing sketch - absolutely packed with 'bits of business'. A real gem!
That was wonderful!!!

Ahh that's lovely, thanks Roy.

Two superb entertainers.
Two great all-round entertainers and Dr Who assistants
Both in one show. Dr Who would be proud.
Two all-time greats, much missed. Thanks for this!
dedication dedication, its all you need

Haha! Very true.
Fantastic comedy!
I only ever knew Roy Castle from the Record Breakers TV show that he did. I never realised he did anything like this.
FABULOUS, I wonder if there were any ad-libs or whether they both 'stuck to the script'?? Cracking bit of telly.. :D
Superb
The Peter Cushing Doctor Who companions together!
Two legends! Bril! Nuff said.🙂
Brilliant! I've never seen this before. Two absolute Legends! Are there any other clips of The Roy Castle Show? I'd love to see more.
Yes, there are a few more on my page. There are only two whole episodes in existence, as a lot of live shows weren't even recorded in those days. I'd love to have seen them.
Bernard Gribbins, funny funny man, sadly missed.
Two late greats on top form .
Draws the door…. You don’t see this on tv anymore…great skit..

Wait, this is the spoon salesman from Fawly Towers!!!
Minus the custard pie and cream in the briefcase!
Underground overground ❤️😂👍🇫🇷that to
Imagine Roy Castle and Bill Bailey together . A two man orchestra.
I would love to see that!
Compare to the current Saturday night shite 🤬
Show this to the kids today and they wouldn’t even laugh.
Humour is dead. University’s and their twisted P.C indoctrinating. 🤬
I guess you had to be there
🤣

So funny witty humour which is lacking n the world today take note t v producers more comedy on t v please 😊
Secret smoker .
Haha!
Two top entertainers, a time when you had to work to the top.
Such simpler times when noone was looking for things to be offended at.Two absolute legends at work.
Ultra class!
Bernard was a Para.
Roy was with the 'Devils in skirts'...
Brilliant
