- Forgotten British TV Sitcom Board Games takes a look at some board games of the past that were based on television comedy series. It's likely that a number of the games featured here are ones you didn't even know existed but there might be one or two that you have the fondest memories of playing back in the day!

I love on the buses
I had a 1960's Doctor Who board game. There was a magic Dalek which would rotate to pick the correct answer to trivia questions. I fascinated by the little fellow. I never figured out how it worked.
What a great pop culture video - this is nothing but screaming unearthed gems.
Thanks for making me feel a bit inadequate! You've just reminded that I don't have George & Mildred or On The Buses DVD sets! . I wish i could send you an image of my DVD collection, or a list. I'm running out of storage space, shelves are full, sideboard is full, now i'm having to resort to keeping some of them on the floor! I've got enough stuff on DVD to open my own TV station, which would be much better than the stuff on offer today! :)
That's it now then - you'll have to get George & Mildred and On the Buses to make yourself feel better!
@@stuviewtv I saw the George & Mildred set in a local shop a while back, but the price they were asking for it was a tad high (to say the least). I've NEVER come across On The Buses DVD set, also, there's another series that's very rare...."Green Green Grass"- the spin off from OFAH. Never seen that one either.
@@madspaniel4271 Oh yes, I remember you saying about the George and Mildred set now. Hopefully one will come around soon at a better price.
C'mon it's not a collection without George and Mildred😂that show was fantastically funny for me growing up Brian Murphy had me in stitches just with his facial expressions. You are spot on in your observation of far better than what's on offer today, I couldn't agree more 👍✌️
As I was watching this, I was going to comment on my Morecambe & Wise board game, and then, there you had it! I've never played it; it's still in the box (stashed somewhere!). I bought it in the 1990's from a newsagent's window on the Wirral. I think (from memory) it's in about the same condition as the one you featured; not a perfect box, but it didn't cost a fortune and I was happy to get something which I thought was probably a bit rare to add to my collection! Great vids, Stuart!
That's great that you've got the game!
Quentin Tarentino is a big collector of board games perticularly on the subject of film and tv
I'd never heard of any of these board games as I had the usual Mousetrap, Ker-Plunk, Connect Four and the traditional games like chess and backgammon. I would have thought the George and Mildred game would involve trying to get away from the nagging missus.
I had absolutely no idea. I've never heard of any of these to be honest. The George & Mildred one made me laugh, though. And, the fact that the game itself has absolutely nothing to do with either the characters or the series, doesn't surprise me at all. I guess the board games manufacturers of the time took the opportunity to take advantage of the popularity of these TV sitcoms, thinking they'd be able to shift enough copies to warrant their production. Whether they managed to do it or not, is unclear. I suppose they were deemed adequate enough as Christmas presents when there was nothing else that could be thought of to buy certain family members.
I can think of several parodies to such merchandise, and not just sitcoms, either. Michael Fish's weather game, as an example? Throwing dice to determine where and what weather symbol got stuck onto a map of the British Isles? That could actually work.
Amazing how sales of something can rocket when you put well-known TV characters on the cover. Just imagine how many disappointed people there were who bought the George & Mildred game only to find out the game play had nothing to do with them!
Commendable recital of the Bread theme.
We had the Hi-De-Hi Game when I was a kid. From what I recall, it involved playing a series of mini games based on activities you might find on a Maplin's holiday - nobbly knees contest, etc. Scores were accumulative I think. It's a great looking game but unfortunately the playability never quite lived up to the packaging.
Found 'Allo 'Allo board game in a charity shop - quite a good try at capturing the show's humour - not just a theme on the cover. You have to try and find other players hidden British Airmen. Described as 'For two to sax players aged noon to ninety' - 'Michelle is already 'ooked and she 'as only played it wernce!'
What a great find!
I had the board game of crossroads in mint condition witch I left in my mums loft after she died in 2017 with many other things! It had meg sandy, Jill and David on the front! Great video thanks.
When I was young I always remember having to watch Crossroads whenever I was at my nan's house. She used to love it.
@@stuviewtv I cried when I thought meg was dead in the fire!
Hi Stuart! A george and mildred game!! ha ha These were great to see! I have a Mr and Mrs game based on the 70s TV show, but I dont think it is an actual game that was fabricated back then..it looks too new...I bought it about 18 years ago .. Thanks so much for another brilliant uplaod! 👌📺🤗Sonique
Hi Sonique. Thanks for watching as always! I think I remember that Mr and Mrs game!
Omg!you uplloaded breathtaking .farewell. 💫
Gosh! An 'AYBS' board game, I must see if I can find that! Thanks.
It certainly looks like it could be fun!
You could have gone further back to the Hancock's Half Hour board game.
i have the M&W game, weird version of connect 4 lol
Very interesting video👍 I have heard of a couple but not all and definitely didn't own any, not sure if my childhood was greatly affected by not playing them😂great stuff✌️🍻
Cheers Martin!
Hi, I enjoyed seeing the On the buses game, which I didn’t know existed. I think the series was voted the worst comedy ever written, although hugely popular in its day and even more so now for it’s nostalgia element. It was the characters that made the series good rather than the hard-to-believe scripts ( particularly the two central sex symbol leads in Varney and Grant).
The Dads Army game (which I have) from the mid 1970’s is also a great nostalgic game, much in the same line as OTB.
Coincidentally, my Aunt, Gilly Coman, played ‘Aveline’ in bread for the first few series. She was a popular Scouse redhead, who played in many Liverpool themed series and films. She trained with Bonnie Langford and went on to be cast in Boys from the Blackstuff and numerous other popular programmes in the 1980’s.
Sadly no longer with us!
Many thanks for watching Jason. That's great that Gilly Coman was your Aunt. She was excellent as Aveline in Bread. I remember her in an episode of Open All Hours once too as a girl who answers Granville's lonely hearts advert.
Yes you are quite right. She also appeared in Coronation street and a Jilly Cooper programme ‘ The man who made husbands jealous’. I recently met Bernard Hill who played ‘Yosser Hughes’ and I mentioned Gilly to him. He had fond memories of that series, and the Scouse cast. I had the pleasure of saying to him ‘Gis a job’ and he said, Do you know that is now 40 years old’. It might be an idea for one of your great videos perhaps?
Keep up the good work. I find the videos fascinating. Regards Jason.
@@jasoncoman9328 Many thanks Jason. Much appreciated!
Ah”m a model, aren’t ah?
We had the On The Buses game in about 1978 or so - any player could move any bus - there was a brown route, a blue route and a green route which the corresponding buses drove along - the red bus was Stan’s bus and didn’t have to follow a specific route - the object was to get three passengers of your chosen colour back to the depot - but it wasn’t easy!
I had the Neighbours board game from the late 80s, it was crap 😆👍
I had that too!
