Very sad to see this for downtown Cleveland! An NFL stadium helps make a city vibrant and adds to downtown economic growth. "Suburb cities" are just plain boring. You rarely hear someone say I can't wait to go visit a suburb! ..."Oh look there's another shopping plaza with an Olive Garden beside it! . Urban sprawl is a huge issue in this country. Fortunately, some cities are having a renaissance in their urban core. I hope this is not a setback for Cleveland.

I cant think of one person who when they see a late season game on TV in a possible bad weather situation does not get excited. Those days are going away..
Not going to lie I do like the look of this proposed stadium but I agree football should be played in cold weather which is why I understand places like Vegas and Arizona building domes but not northern cities.

This stadium is going to be a financial failure for the Haslam’s. The “built up” area around the stadium is going to flop MASSIVELY. No one wants to hang out in Brook Park and so unless there is a game going on or a MASSIVE act in town(Maybe 20 total dates a year), this place will be a ghost town. I hope the Cuyahoga County tax payers aren’t left footing the bill for the Jimmy’s selfishness.

Much like both the GIANTS and JETS once played in New York City at Yankees Stadium/Polo Grounds and Shea Stadium. The DOLPHINS used to play at the Orange Bowl in Miami and the 49ers use to play at Candlestick Park in SF.
Cleveland did this back in the day with the Cavs. It failed. Nothing else grew in the area they closed it up and moved back downtown. Bad idea Mr hasslem

NFL teams don’t want to be downtown anymore. I like that. The game day experience is better in the suburbs. There’s space to tailgate. Oakland and San Diego were great game day experiences.
The trade off is the crazy amount of traffic and next to no amenities outside the stadium. Location matters, I much rather trade a tailgate for a bar/ stuff to do outside the place then be in an area where it’s mainly residential. All you are doing is showing up just to go right back by car 😅, sounds like a horrible experience. Ask the niners how it’s going for them.

The funding isn't approved yet. So this isn't final. State needs to approve it. The mayor of Cleveland should keep the current stadium in place. Try to use it for concerts with Rock Hall and other events. Maybe even attract another sports team or a real NFL franchise to return to Cleveland. Stick it to the Haslams.

Back in 1971,our field was grass. We merged with another school, put our team in a different classification. We had to move our home field to the Rubber Bowl, which wad astro-turf. Quite an adjustment for the players. The positive part, the uniforms weren't caked on mud..
A real shame. We have the nicest playing surface in the NFL - even in Dec-Jan. Groundskeepers do a hell of a job keeping it up. Too bad they're joining the ever increasing number of dome teams.

I mean, I'm a browns fan. Don't usually go to games. Went to WWE summerslam in Browns Stadium. Went to 3 Browns games (2 pre-season games) since 1999. I don't really care. Airport isn't a bad location even though I"m on the other end of town (Hudson). Definitely like the idea. I wish they would close the airport and demolish stadium downtown and put in something cool or new buildings. Would kind of like to see them stay and not waste taxpayer money but hey, I don't live in cuyahoga county so it's not my money.
I went to a game at Huntington Bank Stadium and thought it was a perfectly good stadium. I walked there from my downtown hotel and enjoyed tailgating in the famous Muni Lot. But with little surrounding land it makes sense to move. Rumor has it that the Haslem's will bring an NWSL franchise to Cleveland and build a smaller soccer stadium on the redeveloped lakefront location.

I went to my first Browns game a month ago when they played the Giants at home. Yeah they’re having an awful season and it’s all Deshaun Watson’s fault but I’m glad I saw one game in the current stadium. There’s something about football on a lake shore that just hits different. Makes me wonder what will happen to the current land space if/when they tear down FirstEnergy.
I grew up in Detroit, so I'm used to dome stadiums. Domes are good and bad. It sucks they don't play in all the bad weather because it's fun to watch. For the local economy a dome is good, because you can bring in so many more events, Final 4, Frozen 4, ect.
I’m a lions fan, so I’m used to Ford field growing up. However seeing Detroit take down the packers on that frozen turf before Rodgers left for NYC is something that’ll always be in my memories. Stadiums in the NFL should be 50-50 as some of those outdoor venues can host NHL hockey games especially in colder regions.
This isn't just about the Browns. A dome stadium allows them to host the NCAA Final Four, a Super Bowl, NCAA Bowl Games including a National Championship Game political conventions, concerts, FIFA Soccer and more.
And what does that do for Browns fans? I don't care about watching other teams play a superbowl in empty Brook Park. NCAA Final Four would be played in an arena, not a football stadium. Rocket Mortgage Field House has already hosted NCAA, Republican Convention, and many concerts. They would have to compete with them in Cleveland. Look at Detroit, they get about 20 events a year. Cleveland doesn't have the market for it to be some major hub for entertainment like Vegas.
@Now10100 i mentioned it because Chicago has a lot going on. The Bears want a new domed stadium downtown next to the current Soldier Field. The fans do too. But the Bears want some financial assistance from the city and the state. The city already has a nearly $1 billion budget shortfall and the state has said it doesn't want to use public taxpayers money to fund private businesses. Keep in mind that the Bears OWN a property in a suburb 20 minutes northwest of O'Hare that waa purchased with the initial intention of building a domed stadium, shops and hotels. The team balked at the tax assessments that they would have to pay for that property . Add to the mix the Chicago White Sox also want to build a new downtown stadium about 3/4 mile west of Soldier Field and want $1billion in financial assistance from the state. Again, the state has said that they may be willing to help with infrastructure ( streets, etc) the state isn't willing to fund private businesses with taxpayers dollars. The Bears main selling points are bringing the Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four to Chicago among other year round events. We will see if the Bears are successful in getting funding for the new stadium downtown or if they ultimately decide to build in Arlington Heights.

No I live here , the issue the haslems have is really airport access and the city of Cleveland not willing to put money out for a dome. So the owner bought 200 acres of land in Brookpark

I grew up in Cleveland. The location of the old, and now current stadium has always been horrible. The Muni lot used for tailgating is a half mile away from the stadium. There's really nothing around it. It was built on an old landfill. It would be better to just repurpose it as a park or entertainment/residential. The Brook Park location is way more centrally located, and is already close to the RTA rapid train.

It's only 15 miles away, good for the entire region, still in the same county. To tell you the truth I loved the old stadium but it was neglected for years and had to go.
I don't like how often teams are changing stadiums. It seems like stadiums are only lasting 20-30 years now, where previously teams would spend double that amount of time. Its so wasteful, costs taxpayers a fortune, and just results in abandoned stadiums that either need to be demolished (for even more money) or just take up valuable space.

People are so soft these days, before domed stadiums were invented EVERY game was held outdoors. Some of my favorite games/atmospheres I’ve ever been were in the thick of winter freezing cold. I dressed accordingly and I was fine.

Structurely impossible. Lakefront is reclaimed landfill and auto salvage. Weight of a dome would sink it.

I grew up in Detroit, so I'm used to dome stadiums. Domes are good and bad. It sucks they don't play in all the bad weather because it's fun to watch. For the local economy a dome is good, because you can bring in so many more events, Final 4, Frozen 4, ect.

I’m a lions fan, so I’m used to Ford field growing up. However seeing Detroit take down the packers on that frozen turf before Rodgers left for NYC is something that’ll always be in my memories.
Stadiums in the NFL should be 50-50 as some of those outdoor venues can host NHL hockey games especially in colder regions.

This isn't just about the Browns. A dome stadium allows them to host the NCAA Final Four, a Super Bowl, NCAA Bowl Games including a National Championship Game political conventions, concerts, FIFA Soccer and more.
And what does that do for Browns fans? I don't care about watching other teams play a superbowl in empty Brook Park. NCAA Final Four would be played in an arena, not a football stadium. Rocket Mortgage Field House has already hosted NCAA, Republican Convention, and many concerts. They would have to compete with them in Cleveland. Look at Detroit, they get about 20 events a year. Cleveland doesn't have the market for it to be some major hub for entertainment like Vegas.
@Now10100 i mentioned it because Chicago has a lot going on. The Bears want a new domed stadium downtown next to the current Soldier Field. The fans do too. But the Bears want some financial assistance from the city and the state. The city already has a nearly $1 billion budget shortfall and the state has said it doesn't want to use public taxpayers money to fund private businesses. Keep in mind that the Bears OWN a property in a suburb 20 minutes northwest of O'Hare that waa purchased with the initial intention of building a domed stadium, shops and hotels. The team balked at the tax assessments that they would have to pay for that property .
Add to the mix the Chicago White Sox also want to build a new downtown stadium about 3/4 mile west of Soldier Field and want $1billion in financial assistance from the state. Again, the state has said that they may be willing to help with infrastructure ( streets, etc) the state isn't willing to fund private businesses with taxpayers dollars.
The Bears main selling points are bringing the Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four to Chicago among other year round events. We will see if the Bears are successful in getting funding for the new stadium downtown or if they ultimately decide to build in Arlington Heights.
Traffic on I-480 is already horrible. That will be worse during construction

No I live here , the issue the haslems have is really airport access and the city of Cleveland not willing to put money out for a dome. So the owner bought 200 acres of land in Brookpark

It's not a great area being along the lake like it is. It's a more convenient area near freeways and the airport for the greater region

I grew up in Cleveland. The location of the old, and now current stadium has always been horrible. The Muni lot used for tailgating is a half mile away from the stadium. There's really nothing around it. It was built on an old landfill. It would be better to just repurpose it as a park or entertainment/residential. The Brook Park location is way more centrally located, and is already close to the RTA rapid train.
Agree on location, and looking forward to what happens on the lakefront. Just wish the new stadium didn't come with a roof.

It's only 15 miles away, good for the entire region, still in the same county. To tell you the truth I loved the old stadium but it was neglected for years and had to go.

I don't like how often teams are changing stadiums. It seems like stadiums are only lasting 20-30 years now, where previously teams would spend double that amount of time. Its so wasteful, costs taxpayers a fortune, and just results in abandoned stadiums that either need to be demolished (for even more money) or just take up valuable space.
I just hope it’s natural grass inside.
You said nothing about the Art Modell law that could prevent the Browns from leaving Cleveland.
It would be suicide for them to enact this. Once the lease is up in 2028 they would be able to move anywhere at that point and no one could stop them.

People are so soft these days, before domed stadiums were invented EVERY game was held outdoors. Some of my favorite games/atmospheres I’ve ever been were in the thick of winter freezing cold. I dressed accordingly and I was fine.
