Despite being "consistently consistent" (good job Josh), the main issue is that is with the Alpine Academy. There's no Alpine B Team or a slower Renault customer team to take a chance with him
This is the video I’ve been waiting for. I always find it quite strange they never talk about Oscar. He is very good but that isn’t recognised very often. Great video btw
I think the main reasons are two: firstly, he isn't very well known for most of the fans since he just came to f2. And the second one, and that applies to us who know him, is the fact that he is an alpine junior and alpine has zero seats vacant for next year. and i don't see them putting him in a lower midfield team since they aren't exactly a top team. he definitely deserves it more than zhou imo tho

F1 without money is called sim racing. Even karting essentially requires your parents to be millionares these days (if you want to be competitive that is--new chassis and engine each session, fresh tires, etc.).
Renault’s hard on for Alonso is unbelievable. Ocon is finally starting to come back on. Regardless, I find it wild that they have junior racers all over the place but can’t seem to get them in an F1 seat… Then we have three drivers who have daddy’s buying teams or massive shares in the team to guarantee their place on the grid 🙄
Renault/Alpine are just extremely poorly run. They gobble up junior drivers but have absolutely 0 relationships in F1 that they could use to push a junior driver into a seat on a lower team. No one wants to use their shitbox engines anymore because they're awful, so it's basically Alpine vs. the world. THAT is why he's not going to be in F1 in 2022, and he might not even in 2023 if Alonso doesn't retire again.

1977, Lauda only completed 12 out of 17 races that year but finished in the points in every race he did finish. He voluntarily left Ferrari before the last two races but had already wrapped up the championship purely on consistency. Andretti won four races over Lauda's three, but if you can get the points you can get the title, and I think Piastri is doing more than just getting points, he's winning, and he deserves opportunity.
I remember racing RC cars with the little bigger in Melbourne, he was seriously quick then and you could see his potential them..just knew how to take the best line and was seriously fast
Piastri being fast but more importantly consistent in different Formulas, Constructors, and different tracks over the course of a season and winning championships as a result is a fantastic sign he's got what it takes to be a champion. Kimi won a world championship by being consistent. Alonso repeatedly dragged his inferior Ferrari into World Championship Fights that went down to the final race by being consistent. Jenson won his Title by being consistent in the 2nd half of the season when he no longer had the fastest car. Last year Max beat Lewis whilst in an inferior car by being consistent and Russel beat Hamilton this year by being consistent. It's the skill of a champion.
Being part of the Renault Driver Academy while neither being rich nor french is probably part of the reason. Renault/Alpine had it made pretty clear that they want to be an all-french team. Zhou isn't french either but he's got the money and could also be the key to the chinese market.
No French or any other driver has won Renault a GP3/F3 title or a GP2/F2 title Piastri was their 1st F3 title in history now he is onto F2 to see if he is their 1st F2 winner.

At best he'll be Alpine's reserve driver next season, which wouldn't be the end of his F1 journey. Alonso himself was a reserve driver at Renault
@@boostav Every single one of those pay drivers have won races in junior formulae and have had enough points for a superlicense.
@@TheJonesdude Once again winning the odd race in junior formula does not mean you're deserving of a seat in F1.
@@boostav didn't realise we had mr Helmut Marko here
Can you do a video on Logan Sargeant? I feel like he gets the short end of the stick a bit too often due to his nationality, and his ride with Charouz is showing he actually has some talent (something we knew last season as well).
You know, since Kimi has announced that he will retire at the end of the season, would you consider doing a video explaining the legacy of Kimi and how his influence changed Formula One. Like and reply if you see this Josh.
That last line is a reply repellant
we really need more teams in F1, so much talent in F2 right now
You got a spare $300m?
congrats on feauturing in f1 josh!
Great video btw
this guy is as consistent as lando and that pays off which has been seen
I think the main reasons are two: firstly, he isn't very well known for most of the fans since he just came to f2. And the second one, and that applies to us who know him, is the fact that he is an alpine junior and alpine has zero seats vacant for next year. and i don't see them putting him in a lower midfield team since they aren't exactly a top team. he definitely deserves it more than zhou imo tho
Especially when you consider Zhou is in his third year and Oscar is in his first.
@@grannieannie1371 Lol and you dont think racing in the prema gives a slight advantage
@@drifty4885 Zhou is with a top team though, Illot came 2nd last year in that car.
@@DabDabGoose All it takes is one bad sprint to lose the lead like Zhou did at Silverstone, otherwise they are fairly equal right now. I think whoever wins gets the seat at alfa, alpine will have to match Zhou Chinese cash offer to alfa
@@drifty4885 Zhou is in his 3rd year in F2 though and Piastri is a rookie it's a massive difference, because there is soo much grid rotation each year you have a huge advantage if your in it for over a season. What Piastri is doing right now is like what leclerc and Russell did winning both F3 and F2 as rookies, only the elite talent can do it on the first year of trying.
Meanwhile the rumor of Albon returning is confirmed! Thanks for the video though Josh! Your view on F1 is awesome!
Short answer: getting into F1 is primarily about money and connections, regardless of your status as a driver.
Who's here after his first win in Hungary?
Definitely a talent for the future but maybe keep him in F2 for another year or two so he can develop more because F3 to F2 to F1 in 3 years is massive
if he wins he can't go back, so if he keeps this up he should at least be considered
It’s not impossible for the best of the best though, Leclerc, Russell and Norris (sort of) did it. If he proves to be good enough this year, there’s no point keeping him waiting around too long before getting him to F1.
@@thomascrawley5972 I know but it's a massive step up compared to F3 to F2
F2 champions cannot compete in the series again. If he wins the championship, he have to leave.
@@thomasw4222 I think you’re underestimating these young guys. I get what you’re saying, it’s a challenge jumping from F2 to F1, but you’ve got to take the plunge at some point if you’re in his shoes. IMO he’s shown he’s good enough, the best guys out there are able to adapt quickly, sticking around in F2 is only going to hurt your momentum.
Imagine... a world... where F1 isn't ran by money...
F1: *WHO DAFUQ SAID THAT?*
F1: Josh Revell is disqualified for conspiring against the FIA committee
Clearly crazy talk.
F1 without money is called sim racing. Even karting essentially requires your parents to be millionares these days (if you want to be competitive that is--new chassis and engine each session, fresh tires, etc.).
Hmm,bankruptcy
The issue is this stuff costs money and a lot
Renault’s hard on for Alonso is unbelievable. Ocon is finally starting to come back on. Regardless, I find it wild that they have junior racers all over the place but can’t seem to get them in an F1 seat…
Then we have three drivers who have daddy’s buying teams or massive shares in the team to guarantee their place on the grid 🙄
Replace with De Vries (Latifi), Replace with Piastri (Stroll), Replace with Valsecchi (GP2 2012 winner) (Mazepin)
Stroll is decent ok, he won f4 and f3, but his consistency heh
@@mattdsoares alpine engines sound amazing but there are not great

Piastri, Illott, Schwarzmann and Lawson would have become the "Next 4", if only we had 2 more teams on the grid to fit them into
vips is clear of lawson
@@charlieknight4521 I mean hey, if Albono gets an F1 seat over Lawson, why not give one to Vips or Floersch, they would finish ahead of him as well.

The year Piastri won F3 was a damn fun year to watch. Wish id have kept up with his F2 season
This sport so badly needs more teams. Just two more seats would enable a few junior drivers to get a shot, two would be better. But alas, with the current price tag, it's nothing but a pipe dream.
Two more teams = two more cars, already crowded tracks with two more cars would be fun to watch

One Year Later: Seems he was, and his eye was on Danny's seat at McLaren. What a turn of an events.
Oscar Piastri is my favourite F2 driver of all time, been a fan since he joined F3 and I would love to see him in F1!
Because he signed with Alpine and they’re gonna hold on to him for dear life until Alonso retires
very nice vid and wish him and myself very good luck for our future wait too see what awaits us. Thanks for making this is as we are really good mates since our junior career, hope in the future too be together in f1.
One thing I've learned from this video: There is suspiciously ALOT of Australian drivers with Italian sounding last names.
In the 1960s Australia had an absolute bucket load of Italians,Greeks and Maltese move to Australia hence the last names
Just another reason why we need another couple of teams in F1. Can Porsche hurry themselves along please.
All the current teams voted on a 200 mil entry fee for new teams which basically blocks any team from joining think about how much money that is to even get up an running like half a billlion
Italians in F1 will disappear for a lot if they drop Antonio. At least we have Ricciardo and Piastri if they finally promote him
Tifosi will support Ferrari anyway, I don't see Italians abandoning F1 anytime soon
@@shockwave.studios It's true but giovi here in Italy is getting a lot of clout because he's been driving incredibly well under the pressure of losing the seat, and we all know that it's likely not enough to keep him in the sport. It's a very contrasting feeling that is making us very attached to him. Tifosi at Ferrari will always stay , but we will be hurt. Also I think he meant "italian drivers" in F1, there is no upcoming talent from Italy and hasnt been in the recent years
@@fumziemusic No upcoming italian? How about Kimi Andrea Antonelli? He’s already a Mercedes junior.
He will be in F1 at some moment. Let´s hope that moment is soon to come. I´m already a fan of him

1:20 - you forgot to mention the greatest Aussie-Italian of them all: Lucio Cesario!
Hopefully we'll see Zhou put that cash into a potential Haas drive, replacing Mazipin, and Piastri into Alfa
I think the Mazepin money will block the Zhou money, sadly.
@@TheMrJourneyer yeah unfortunately. Would be nice to see both Zhou and Piastri in F1 next year though. Also, it would mean a return to the old Haas liveries but yeah
I like how this one aged.
I wonder if Josh will make a video about Kimi Raikkonen’s career, since he is retiring at the end of the season.

Who's here after the August 2022 chaos😂😂😂

Pastryman storming the Formula1
Being part of the Renault Driver Academy while neither being rich nor french is probably part of the reason. Renault/Alpine had it made pretty clear that they want to be an all-french team. Zhou isn't french either but he's got the money and could also be the key to the chinese market.
No French or any other driver has won Renault a GP3/F3 title or a GP2/F2 title Piastri was their 1st F3 title in history now he is onto F2 to see if he is their 1st F2 winner.

If Zhou gets a seat instead of Oscar it will be a real shame. Zhou has had 3 seasons in F2 and is now only in the title fight. Piastri won F3 in his rookie season and was right on the pace this year.
