How To Build A “Poor Man’s” KC Light Bar!

- In this episode we take some very bright lights from Amazon and make our own unique light bar for the Jeep! I’m personally not a fan of the regular LED light bars that span across the roofs of a lot of cars and trucks these days. However, obtaining the retro and super awesome look that KC provides with their round lights is unfortunately not in my budget. So I took matters into my own hands and made my own spin-off design! Thanks to some inspiration from a friend that has also done something similar on his Jeep, we get to work on building this one of a kind light bar.

They indeed throw a good amount of light. Good of you to mention the amp draw as well. I feel a lot of folks forget about that. That is where the KC Lights "Shine" in the low amp draw. As you noted, KCs are expensive. The real question is the longevity of the cheaper lights. If they last and don't get water intrusion then I would say it was worth it.
Quince has had his well over a year now with no issues and they have pretty good reviews so I’m hoping the longevity won’t be an issue! Thanks for watching
Nice. Make sure to do a follow-up video in 6 months or so. I see you are in the White Mountains so you'll get plenty of inclement weather to test them out. I am in the market for new lights and debating to spend the coin on some KCs or go with some cheaper Auxbeams. @@mountaincrawlers8
Hard to beat KC's 23 yr warranty!
@@DanMcD80 great warranty but I don’t have that cash like most people
That turned out sweet! I love that old school look.
Thanks for watching!
I honestly think with the XJ's going round fits better it has the retro look of the old school KC lights , nothing wrong with the light strip light bars but I think this just looks better on the XJ . Great videos keep up the great work!
Awesome!
Nicely done! I'll have to sit down and watch the other videos that you've posted one of these days.
Curious the distance between cuts on the angle iron for the proper radius? Great build! Thanks for sharing
I’ve been wanting to do this. Sweet!
This is awesome! another reason for me to learn how to weld.
It’s a great skill to add to the bag!
Bad ass!! 🤘🏽
Thank you for explaining the wiring. That’s one thing I’m very ignorant about.
Glad I can help!
This is a great idea for a light bar can’t wait to see what’s next. I need a welder man lol
welcome to the perma dirty windshield life
Good thing windshields aren’t permanent and can be replaced…
Man turned out awesome. Would you by chance have measurements of the build? Wanting to do similar setup for my roof top tent. And where did you get the mounting brackets?
The brackets are from k suspension! The rack is about 7’ long from the lights to the back of the jeep. I can’t remember the width off the top of my head but it’s all built around my tent setup
Dude that turned out sweet! That brought out the uniqueness in the roof rack for sure. If you don't mind me asking what size square tubing did you use for the rack?
It’s 1” square tubing! Pretty sure I used 14 gauge if I’m not mistaken. Thanks for watching man!
Tig gloves even all leather reg work gloves are great for tacking
I’m a bare hands guy for most things. I can’t even wear rubber gloves when I’m working. Just preference. My wife got me silicone rings for Christmas!
What lift and what size tires you running ?
How do ya like that Vulcan welding helmet?
Works good for the cost I have no complaints! it’s just the shop community helmet though or I’d be using my save phace but the battery died on it
@@mountaincrawlers8 thanks!
So what was your notching measurement and how wide did you remove?
Notching measurements were based off the width of each light. So depending on what lights you were to buy it might change the outcome. As far as how much excess I cut off it’s going to be different for you unless you’re planning to do it on the exact same type of roof rack I have. Sorry I can’t help much with that.
Question.. what headlights are you running?

Is there a reason for the yellow on the end
Amber helps cut through dust and snow particles in the air when the visibility is low. adding amber lights or just running the ambers on their own will help when the conditions on the trail aren’t optimum.
Bro, it's your responsibility to edit out welder static audio that is damaging to speakers. nice work she looks good.
The audio from the welding static is no where close to the range to damage speakers I think you might need to turn off your audio all together to preserve your poor cheap ass speakers.
@@thatnightrodguy9028How can a welder damage speakers via audio? Hahah
That’s the gayest comment I’ve read in a long time
