I thought the same, really for all the performance trucks. 5 liter in a Raptor, 6.4 Hemi in the TRX and 5.3 in the ZR2. What’s real wild to me is I paid less for my New Power Wagon than what the ZR2 starts at.
That’s why Ford is keeping the current Raptor and adding the R. The next TRX will be the straight 6 tho. 2 V8’s don’t make sense either. Not really sure that adding $20k to the Raptor to get the V8 sound is worth it. I know there’s a couple hundred more HP but it’s easy to bump the V6 to 600hp. I bet the computer will keep anyone from getting the 700hp anywhere but a drag strip or dry lake bed anyway.
@@mikelliteras397 that is unconfirmed that the hurricane is going into any ram. That announcement applied to other stellantis products. That is the only thing confirmed.
Without the A/C on I can get 16-17 mpg in my Ram 6.4 Power Wagon, and it has a 4.10 rear end and is a heavier truck. Those half tons should be getting more.
One math rule I'll always remember...you cannot average, averages so with that... (Trip 1 + Trip 2) / (Fuel 1 + Fuel 2) = mpg (344.7 + 344) / (21.69 + 17.869) = 17.48 mpg That is total distance divided by total fuel used. That equals the true fuel efficiency for your trip. Good or bad? That's up to those that would be purchasing this vehicle.
Gotta say I have an 01 f350 powerstroke, 4x4, 4 door, dually and I get 14 to 15mpg going down the highway. I cant say these new half tons only getting 17 to 18 in the real world seems all that great.
Except these aren’t diesels. You’re comparing apples to oranges when it comes to fuel efficiency. We know diesels get better fuel economy but you’re also paying more at the pump as well. Given all the extra weight due to how the vehicle is outfitted, I don’t think 17-18 mpg for a gasser in such a large vehicle is such a bad thing.
@@Heffelz8 hes not comparing diesel to gas, hes comparing the years. hes saying is 2001 f350 gets 14-15mpg, 20 years later for a gas engine to only get 17-18 doesnt seem that great.

Yep even in the one Top Gear America gas mileage challenge. Tanner got better mileage in the BMW when he kicked it up to 65 from 50mph. Think it was a full 3-4mpg better

I just purchased a 2022 GMC Sierra AT 4 limited with the 3 liter duramax. Two 260 mile round trips Fort Collins to Frisco and it was 25 mpg. Even With diesel so much more than 91 octane, it is sill less expensive overall than gas. While they both have 460 lbs torque at sea level, the gas engine looses 3 % power every 1000 feet in elevation. that's a 33% loss in power as you enter the Eisenhower tunnel at 11,000 feet. Turbos loose very little. I am amazed how the 3.0 duramax flys up the tunnel approaches. Also I bought the 2022 limited. That beautiful new dashboard in the ZR2 adds $3,200 TO THE PRICE of the latest of either the sierra or silverado. My AT 4 was $63500 with sunroof, running boards and several other options . The AT 4 may not be as good off road as the ZR 2, but I have no desire to take a $67,000 truck up Hells Revenge or Poison Spyder. I'll stick with an Polaris RZR or Kawasaki KRX 1000 for some real fun on those trails. Keep up all the great tests you do,

Hey Andre if you’re going to do a fuel test you should’ve keep the same speed limit on your way back. Not 55 mph obviously 🙄 you are going to get a different mpg. I dare you to do it again but go 70-75 mph.
I love you guy's channel, big fan but in this one, I don't think this is a real appreciation of the mpg, nobody drives 60 mph on the highway. I get that on my '12 F150 with the 5.0 @ 70 mph. Keep up the great job.
Yeah so, and I get 45 mpg with my chevy Cruze. You aren't comparing apples to apples. For one, the speed limit through much of that area he was driving, is 60. You also completely fail to comprehend what 12,000 ft of elevation and driving over mountains does to fuel mileage

I have a 2015 GMC Sierra crew cab Z71 5.3L with a 3.42 axle, in summer I average 19.5 back and forth to work 80 miles round trip. Best highway empty, not towing atv's, 23. After 176,000 miles. Cruise set at 73 mph. With trailer and 2 4x4 atv's, 15.4 mpg at 73 mph.
Obviously you've never driven on that part of I70 through the mountains. Speed limit through much of that is 60. I'm sure when he got into Utah he was going faster.
My Tacoma gets about the same mpg as these full size trucks. No wonder the mid size category almost died off prior to the resurgence of the mid-sized truck.
That's a Toyota problem. My 04 which was when they were still small would get 18-19 highway unless I sat at 60 mph then it would get a touch over 20. Pretty pathetic considering how old and sorted that 3.4L V6 was.
But it would be nicer if you had an option to use regular fuel.... V8 and premium fuel is no go for me. That is why i went with Nissan Titan instead. Other reasons are no start stop garage, no cylinder deactivation garbage, no hybrid garbage...

Many of us would appreciate accounting for tire size when comparing MPG. How about adding 35's to the ZR2 (requires more than a leveling kit?) as a MPG and capability comparisons would be interesting. They usually always only test how the vehicles come stock from the factory but it would be cool to see. I’m sure someone on RUclips will need up doing it but tfl most likely won’t be doing that
You'll never get 35s under any GM without a pretty good suspension modification. This truck already has a lift and barely fits 33s. Let's face it. Gm had to put a leveling kit in trucks just to get the same size tires under it that come Standard in Ford, Ram and Toyota
@@wutang61 the trail boss and AT4 IS already leveled to get 275/65 R18s under them. That's only a 32. They do not come with a 33. The zr2 does but that's with even more lift. GMs tight fenders haven't allowed for large tires without alot of lift in years. Just isn't happening.

I'm not so sure about the coating, my 96 suburban's frame has hardly any rust on it and I beat the hell out of that truck off-roading so I imagine the coatings would be mostly gone
this truck should come with at least a 30gal tank. 24 gallon tank towing isnt going to get you far. thats all i would change about this truck to be honest. A part of me wonders if they went with the 24 gal tank to help save some weight for the GVWR. thats why its listed at 1430 (for this truck in particular). most off road suspensions hurt GVWR.
@@302Mustang13 You have a 10 speed transmission that can hit just about any total ratio you would have with a 4.10 with less transmission gears. In this case, I'd argue it makes little to no difference that its diff ratio is 3.23 instead of 4.10.

A better MPG result will be to set cruise control on both directions. Than add $80k dollars for the truck. Plus 17mpg times 5.89 gallons is approx. a distance of 100 miles. If you drive it for 100 miles, 5.89 gallons times gas price $4.60 is $27.09. For 1000 mile drive $27.09x10= $270.90. on gas. and for 10k miles $270.90x10=$2,709.00 on gas. So 100k mile drive is $27,900.00. on gas. Then, 200k mile drive is 27,900x2 =$55,800. on gas. By then, this truck will be on its Last Leg at 300k miles we get $27,900x3=$83,700 on Just gas. Good afternoon, do a review on transimission, in different modes with and without blocking, and if possible, compare it with the Toyota Tundra. Thank you.
Engineering Explained did testing and found maybe a fraction of an mpg better. Towing and hauling is the only place you have a noticable difference in mpgs. I own a turbo vehicle and run regular fuel all the time and premium doesn't save hardly anything to justify the cost of 80¢ a gallon more.

Of it, just omit the hellcat engine for the “standard” SRT 6.4L n/a V8 & drop the price accordingly- will sell like hotcakes & wouldn’t see it hurt other Ram sales or the wrangler 392 really.
They have the rebel and power wagon 😂. Don’t think it would matter much.
Yes the hemi is going away officially for dodge, but ram doesn't call the engine in the Trx a hellcat. The ceo even said it's hanging around. They're launching an EV version. That is the only thing confirmed.
Nah
I love your channel because you guys get the newest the fastest!
Without the A/C on I can get 16-17 mpg in my Ram 6.4 Power Wagon, and it has a 4.10 rear end and is a heavier truck. Those half tons should be getting more.
How fast are you going? I’m at 13mpg doing 80mph.
@@slimtny Anywhere from 70-75 MPH when on the highway.

Definitly. Tfl will own it for one year and then get rid of it and try to make their money back so they try to keep the options low as possible.
The extra camera are worth it

@@born2win262 I take those steps off. It's a truck, not a station wagon.
One math rule I'll always remember...you cannot average, averages so with that...
(Trip 1 + Trip 2) / (Fuel 1 + Fuel 2) = mpg
(344.7 + 344) / (21.69 + 17.869) = 17.48 mpg
That is total distance divided by total fuel used. That equals the true fuel efficiency for your trip. Good or bad? That's up to those that would be purchasing this vehicle.
You have to factor in 91 octane cost per mile to reference your wallet.
2nd time watching and I just noticed the sick background music playing from 5:40-6:20
Gotta say I have an 01 f350 powerstroke, 4x4, 4 door, dually and I get 14 to 15mpg going down the highway.
The problem is that the new engines are being hurt on MPG because of all the pollution control stuff on them. Pull all that crap off and I bet you would see at least 5 mpg more.
@@THeSPARTEnMORTER21 a swing and a miss.
I agree man. They really are giving us no reason to upgrade to newer cars. More expensive, less reliable,... did I mention more expensive....
Freeway driving is not the same as hyway driving. 55mph is different then 70mph when it comes to mpg
My '16 6.2 ltz on king coilovers (2" lift) and 35's at 163k miles gets about the same mileage (running 93octane). I don't feel too bad at all now 🍻
I feel like a 5mph average speed difference would play a big roll in mpg.
Yep even in the one Top Gear America gas mileage challenge. Tanner got better mileage in the BMW when he kicked it up to 65 from 50mph. Think it was a full 3-4mpg better
Makes a huge difference...
The speed on the dash is average though. Which means if the truck isn't moving, that average speed will drop a lot. So you can go there and back at 65, but if one way had more stops, the average speed will show that.
@@NXT_LVL LOT of variables in that. Cars with really good aero and the correct gearing can get better economy had higher speeds. But this is very rarely true for a pickup.

I think you have the wrong video.
Keep up all the great tests you do,
Great job Andre. Too bad about the wind but you have the truck long term so there will be more fuel economy tests.
We need the texas mpg run, all of these trucks but at 80-85 mph
Awesome video guys! I like that new ZR2 so far
What an awesome video. Thank you guys.
I always do a manual calculation for my 22 Tacoma when I fill up, I always get an extra .5 mpg from the actual calculation vs the truck computer, like a little bonus!
If you like your ZR2 thank a RAM Rebel. You’re welcome.
I like it, especially the new interior, which is very comparable to my Rebel. Competition is really great for the consumer! I would really like to hear a ZR2 with a Borla exhaust.
you nailed that one...
Now this truck I’m excited about!
That is a good looking truck!
If someone could build a v8 with a manual, with no technology except what barely makes it legal, id think about it. I don't even need power windows. Just want a truck I could use as a truck. Anybody else agree?
Yes! Unfortunately, all the add on crap is how the profit is made.
Unfortunately companies don't see that as profitable, so your best bet is to just try and find an old one for sale
Great truck cant wait to get my hands on one. great video.
Needs the 3.0 Duramax as an option. Carbon Pro bed would be nice too..
What’s GM thinking??
BTW, thank yall for lightening up on the promotional commercials in this one. I upped my Patreon payment per month in agreement. Love all u guys.
16mpg is pretty good. My 22 Raptor gets 17 on the highway and 14 around town.
Beautiful truck & love that Chevrolet has kept the big naturally assperrated V8, I'm a Ford man but hate the little V6 with turbos.
Thanks for the ride along. That truck gets better mpg than my F150 4.2 V6 with the 5 speed manual.
He was only going 52 -60 mph on the views I saw. Even with no break-in, that's still not that good.
@@302Mustang13 my truck only gets 17 mpg even if it's on a trailer being pulled.
Funny thing, I just came from Moab to Denver lol have fun Moab was great!
I have a 22 high country with the 6.2 and we average 20 consistently on the highway. 17 mpg when you combine city and highway
Hey Andre if you’re going to do a fuel test you should’ve keep the same speed limit on your way back. Not 55 mph obviously 🙄 you are going to get a different mpg. I dare you to do it again but go 70-75 mph.
And on 91 octane what would be his cost per mile??
I went 70-75 most of the way in both directions. The average speed is affected by pulling over for a bathroom stop or lunch or occasional traffic.

Yeah so, and I get 45 mpg with my chevy Cruze. You aren't comparing apples to apples. For one, the speed limit through much of that area he was driving, is 60. You also completely fail to comprehend what 12,000 ft of elevation and driving over mountains does to fuel mileage
@@jerryeastman170 Yea, but people don't drive the speed limit on the highway/interstate anywhere. lol Hell people down here south drive their lifted trucks on the back roads like their sports cars.

I have the 23 Colorado Zr2 and it is thirsty. I can only imagine what the Bison version gets. If you use the turbo much, count on 16. I’m not sure how a 4 cylinder loses to an 8 cylinder hemi Rebel in gas mileage.
I'd like to see what mpg you get after 40,000 miles, but you probably won't keep it that long.
Bro with a tailwind my Tremor Ranger gives me 22, with a head wind 17.4..... the wind plays a massive part.
You guys are the best! Thank you for all your R&D
Great test as always!
The raptor filling up gas prices were nearly half as much. Those were the good ole days.
Actually, Toyota Tundra 2020 V8 can easily do 17 MPG at same speed on this trip.
I was thinking the same thing. My 2007 5.7 Tundra gets close to 19 mpg around 60 mph stretches
56 MPH? You would get run over in the East Coast at that speed. The Speed Limit is 70 MPH.
The Eisenhower tunnel sits at over 11,000 ft elevation. Much of the trip was conducted and higher altitudes.
Yeah its shocking the amount of haters on here that refuse to educate themselves enough to realize that point!
Like the big analog clock.
Any V8 motor will drink fuel.....Bar none.... You want fuel efficiency, get a small car...
But it would be nicer if you had an option to use regular fuel.... V8 and premium fuel is no go for me. That is why i went with Nissan Titan instead. Other reasons are no start stop garage, no cylinder deactivation garbage, no hybrid garbage...
Here is a joke $6.00 plus a gallon in SoCal. So to make me feel better I blend E85 in.
Also I miss the real arm rest's in the 2000's Tahoe/Suburban. Those things make a difference on 1000 mile runs on your elbows. Hopefully these trucks come with these options with the price they should. It is all about the comfort.
Blend in a less expensive fuel that gives you less mileage. Seems like a solid choice.

My 22 Trailboss 65k here in California lol. And I haven’t even got my truck yet it’s in Long Beach waiting to get transported to the dealer
Many of us would appreciate accounting for tire size when comparing MPG. How about adding 35's to the ZR2 (requires more than a leveling kit?) as a MPG and capability comparisons would be interesting. I believe a high percentage of ZR2 owners will add 35s if it is possible to keep the suspension intact.
33’s are standard on trail bosses and AT4’s with 20’s. 34’s will go on without issue. 35’s fit with a level.
@@Burn280 also the ZR2 doesn’t have anymore lift then a TB. Same blocks different shocks. The ride height increase is from the taller tire.
I have a 17' Silverado High Country with the same 6.2L 91 octane but the 8 speed transmission and of course none of the off road stuff (Other than a set of AT tires) with 90,000 kms (56,000 Mi). I can get 12 L/100km's (19.6 MPG) all day long easily highway driving and my record is 7.8 L/100km's (30.2 MPG) on a particularly flat highway with half of it at 80 km/h, the other half at 105 km/h with a tailwind lol.
pretty good compared to the raptor and trx which are forced induction motors vs a naturally aspirated engine at elevation.
They were comparing it to a Rebel with the 5.7 N/A Hemi V8, not the TRX.
So Toyota with their V6 is actually pointless…
Depends on how long you want to keep your vehicle.
I'm not so sure about the coating, my 96 suburban's frame has hardly any rust on it and I beat the hell out of that truck off-roading so I imagine the coatings would be mostly gone
I'm so glad my Google home started reading off gas prices in MOAB during the video 😂😂😂

this truck should come with at least a 30gal tank.
Gotta give props to the raptor for getting 17mpg on 35’s with 4.10 gears compared to the zr2’s 17mpg on 33’s with 3.23 gears
I was laughing when they said the ZR2 has a 3.21 axle ratio. That's gonna suck getting anywhere off the pavement.
Half the displacement of an engine too though
@@302Mustang13 You have a 10 speed transmission that can hit just about any total ratio you would have with a 4.10 with less transmission gears. In this case, I'd argue it makes little to no difference that its diff ratio is 3.23 instead of 4.10.

“Wasting gas” should be the name of this show!
Yank, yank, yank…
My 2021 Tacoma TRD 4x4 get 400 miles per tank, F to E, 70 liter of gas.
Good enough for a very capable truck.
Now add
your price of truck $80k plus gas for 300k miles driven we get $83,700 gas +$80k truck price tag is $163,700 estimate.
and so on. Is this smart truck?

Good afternoon, do a review on transimission, in different modes with and without blocking, and if possible, compare it with the Toyota Tundra. Thank you.
About 2mpg saving attributes to premium gas, regular gas numbers would be circa 15mpg
And todays gasprices in Denmark!! $8,4 pr gallon
A 3 litre ZR2 would have got 25 mpg .
For real life conditions i think you should go 70mph..
Do you think these were fake world conditions? 60 is the speed limit for much of where he was driving. Most real world driving would probably get even better mileage! Most people don't try to figure fuel mileage while driving over 11,000 and 12,000 ft mountain passes
Wait tell the AFM lifters fail and eat the cam and send metal throughout the engine. Fuel mileage will not be a issue anymore!
Too soon
