I'll take the Raptor any day. The manual with a clutch will always be more fun than just putting it in gear and going. It wouldn't matter if it was a true direct comparison and basically identical to the Raptor in every way except the transmission, I'm still going for the Raptor.
I thought that also until I kept getting stuck everywhere the SXS ruts get deeper and deeper so now I have a scrambler at 850 and a raptor 660 Having both isn't a bad thing
@@reemer911 The places I ride are usually pretty well maintained and the mud holes usually have a little bypass going around them. I can count on one hand the times that I've been stuck on my Raptor.
I have a 850xxc renegade, I have had two guys say “my 650 is just as fast as your 850”. But when we get out on the trails they’re a mile in the dust. To have to go from the 650 to the 1000 if you want a new renegade is kinda ridiculous I think. If anything they should have kept the 850 and 1000. I don’t mind a 650 just seems to leave a huge hole in the middle with price and performance. I hope to see a midrange renegade back for 2026.
I had a 21 Renegade 570. A very cool machine and so I think the 650 will be fun and right for some but there’s never going to be a comparison between a true sport quad with a solid rear axel and a 4x4. Solid rear axel and manual every time. 🤙🏽⚡️
The Rotax 650 is a great motor, no one disputes that. However, Can am’s pricing strategy as it related to the 650 lineup never made sense. By way of example, In June 2019 at Tampa Bay Powersports, the 650 Outlander xt was only $325 less than the 850 outlander xt. I would venture to guess that 90%+ of buyers would go with the 850 in that scenario. The 650 was always a “tweener” displacement. Anyone who wanted a more forgiving bike was better suited to save some money and go with the 570 and most others went with the 850 due to perceived value.
Great video, I ordered the 23 650 and was raptor minded forever. I like the 4x4 options being in Colorado and needing that extra grip on the climbs. I’m excited to drive it but it will be my first CTV atv. Let’s see how long it takes to ship with the current conditions
I hope you get it soon! I love Raptors but that Rocky terrain definitely calls for more ground clearance and 4x4.. Ya gotta get the right tool for the job! CVTs are still pretty fun, I think you're gonna be happy..
I am 54 yrs old and still love my sport atvs. But I also love the 4x4 for riding alittle of everything and being able to still ride in the winter with snow. But no matter what the pulling of a clutch, shifting of gears, and thunder of that exhaust, and ass end sliding around corners as you slip from one side of the seat to the other is always a great feeling. At my age I rode them all from a go cart, mini bike, dirt bike, three wheeler, and snow mobiles. But a atv u can ride all year. Cant beat it no matter what you ride. Love our sport. Stay safe!!
54 yrs young brother!!! Agree, time and a place for everything. We keep Sport ATVs for summer time rips and 4x4s for winter or very long rides! This one should do both pretty well though..
Could this be another KLR650 situation? Remove it from the market for a year or two while it gets a complete overhaul, then bring it back? I don't know much about Can-Am, but that move seems to be a popular one (and one I hope to see happen to the DRZ400 soon). While I agree with you that 4x4's don't offer the same feel on the trails from my recent experience with both types of quads, I know now how much independant rear suspension and much greater ground clearance impact trail riding. And, well... 4x4 modes. I think if I was in my early 20's again I would have tried to make my 6'3 self fit on a sport ATV better. However, now in my early 40's my priories and need to be able to walk the next day have lead me in the direction I'm going. And honestly I feel like I can ride just as hard as I did on the solid axle as I do on the 4x4 and be 100x more comfortable and able to ride longer / further. If I had a groomed dirt track or dunes near by, I would absolutely have a solid axle still, but for the riding that I have in my area now, a couch with enough power to get me trouble is just fine.
I hear that! That's why I'm looking for a 4x4 again! I don't think the 650 Outlander will come back.. That displacement category is just too saturated.. I think CanAm is trying to prioritize and streamline their lineup
4x4 would be top heavy for fast trails ( for me ) but nice for putting around . Still like gear jamming . Speed in the woods have its rewards & penalties , can’t imagine either 4x4s under me or on top of me lol
I own the 2023 renegade 650 and have ridden the outlander. It’s important to point out In this video it’s mentioned several times the renegade is just an outlander with different plastics and less utility. I feel like that’s not true at the entry level line up price points. The renegade 650 gives you fox 1.5 (non gas) shocks. They are way better then the stock suspension on the outlander. the renegade is very tight and aggressive and can be jumped easily. The stock outlander 850 even if you want to include the dps or xt model does not have fox shocks at all they are base can am shocks that make it feel very squishy and couch like and the suspension components are set up slightly different too. Even people that do review videos of the outlander say the shocks aren’t great and to go with the xtp model. So I don’t think it’s fair to say they have different plastics and that’s it. If you want fox shocks you have to spend 14199$ for outlander 850xtp that’s a lot more then the renegade 650 at 10599. I do agree the renegade 850 shouldn’t have been dropped bc that’s the one I really wanted for the price and I do wish I had power steering. But for the price ur getting alot of quad that you can aggressively ride in trails and hit some jumps compared to a base outlander 850 or even a dps or xt model. Although the 850 has a more powerful engine. Also I came from riding a raptor 700r and am very happy with the renegade as you can do alot more type of riding with it. For example independent rear suspension 4x4 it’s definitely a good quad to move to if ur debating getting rid of a raptor! This is all my opinion and what I’ve learned and seen between the two at the entry level price points. Hope this info helps everyone.
Great point! When this was released, when I first did the video, the fox podiums weren't advertised as a feature.. But in light of that, I agree 100% that the fox podiums are far superior to the XT suspension.. I still wish it had DPS but I wish I had found out the fox podiums would be on it when I did this.. I'd like to grab one for a review eventually
@@DirtObseXXion i wish it had DPS too 😂 but honestly speaking I had a raptor 700 before this so I never experienced dps so riding this renegade I never really felt it was tough to ride or anything. So building on the idea of potential raptor owners coming over, you wouldn’t feel it bc you wouldn’t know 😂. But I’d 100% want it if I could hands down.
I am a Can Am dealer in VT The 650 Outlander was my best selling ATV for the past decade. Granted the 570 took a few of those buyers due to price. But moving a customer to an 850 is close to $1500 bump in same model… I just don’t see why
Awesome to have that feedback from a dealer! It makes total sense to me that the 650 would be the best seller, and honestly the 650 renegade seems like it could potentially be harder for dealerships to move.. The target market is younger more aggressive riders who are less likely to have the means to buy a new machine, and no DPS will take will take it out of contention for more seasoned folks... I hope I'm wrong..
Atv= Trail rides, hunting, camping, and getting around the property. Wants, good fuel economy, soft seat, good suspension, attachments for work or play, and reliability. If i wanted a race machine then i would buy a 850 or 1000.
I'm not really a huge fan of Renegades to be honest.. If you're grabbing a 4x4 ATV, you might as well get some mud protection.. Outlander XXC or XT-P would be my choice if I were going with a big CanAm
I was seriously thinking about buying a 2024 Renegade 650 but just realized they left off the power steering. Not sure I want the 1000r, I don't really need the extra displacement so therefore spending the extra cash for something I don't need is a deciding factor.
@@crfamily6946 I think it would be possible, but it wouldn't be cheap or easy. You'd have to buy the DPS unit, probably a new steering stem, but hooking it into the wiring harness would be the biggest pain.. Not worth the money, effort, and risk in my opinion.
Great video! At the end of the video you mentioned that you think the 650 can am is faster than the 700 class and specifically you mentioned the brute. Did you mean on the trail faster or just more powerful in general? I'm asking because I've had some experience with a can am 850 (I have a brute 750) and the 850 didn't really get by me till around 40/45 mph...just curious. I love can am handling though.
The 650 Outlander had 62HP which is considerably more than anything in the 700 class including the Brute.. The 850 is much more powerful and certainly faster stock for stock.. But I don't doubt you beat one in a drag race.. You might be ballsier than the other dude, the canams will lift the front and spin the tires easier, and a million other variables... At the end of the day, the Brute is still a powerful machine
Good point, launching these things are a bit difficult. I've only been riding quads for a few years now (I'm 52). I grew up riding dirt bikes and have always been into jeeping. So I appreciate your chanel a lot for the info. Also pretty funny 😁
I am a little conflicted in my thoughts tbh. The 570 renegade is a great trail machine at a good price point for the less aggressive rider who just wants to get out and have a good trail machine and has no need for big power AKA my wife lol. that being said i have taken it on the trails myself and it can be a blast! The 650 being more expensive and the cheapest Renegade available will put some people off I think who are looking for affordable. The 650 is definitely an upgrade but the higher price may not be worth it for some people . as far as Raptor vs Renegade, well.... I think people who want a sport quad will buy a Raptor ultimately unless they are new to atvs and don't know what they are getting into and do not do enough research. Going from my Raptor to my wifes 570 Renegade is like going to a different planet. Even getting on my brothers 1000r xxc is nothing like riding a Raptor or any sport quad. You are not flicking a Renegade around with it pushing 800lbs. You immediately feel the size and weight of a Renegade as soon as you climb on top of one. Both great machines with 2 totally different abilities regardless of power. With all this being said. I will be on my raptor as long as my body allows it. I can see my self in retirement age traveling and exploring on a Renegade 1000r or Scrambler 1000 xp however as they beet up your body less. Great video as usual, keep em coming!
Thanks brother! Thanks again for letting me use the 570 content!! I agree, Raptor until I can't.. I couldn't do a Renegade 650 knowing how close in price an outty 850 is!
When I seen this video, got excited. Finally a 650 renagade in the states. Just to get shot down, no pwr steering, game changer. Wished I was still 30 but I'm not. Next machine will definitely have pwr. str..
That was a huge oversight but I think CanAm was concerned that the Renegade 650 with DPS would have cost about as much as an Outlander 850 DPS. I agree though, it needs DPS.
Out of my realm of my experience. I just hope I get a phone call from my Can-Am dealer one of these days so I can accept the order and get it in three months or so.
Going to miss the 650 motor, but there was only a $600 price increase from the 650 to a 850 in the outlander line up so that is probably why everyone went with the 850
Not as an option.. It's theoretically possible but you'd have to buy the DPS unit, new steering stem, and figure out how to change the electronics to add the switch and the icon activator for the display.. At that point it would probably just be worth buying the 1000 xxc
First off…the dude on the Outty 1K is beefy! Rene 650 vs Raptor: the only true comparison you can do is to see which one slings more mud on the rider. No comparison in the tight stuff
Depends who is riding the sport quad and who is riding the 4x4 when it comes to be fast on a trail. I have no problem showing up the sport quad guys, especially when the rear axle is bouncing off every rock or root.
That's true, but for comparison sake I mention that in the context of XC1 Pros.. GNCC racers are faster on pure sport ATVs than 4x4 Pros.. But, you're right, it definitely depends on the rider..
To show the difference through the woods, just go to a GNCC race. You might see one raptor there. You'll see 45 renegades.. I've owned them both. A raptor is tall tippy and narrow rear end. I won class championships with the renegade
True... But then look at YFZs vs Renegades and it's like 200:1.. The Raptor isn't a race quad by any stretch of the imagination.. But most riders are going to be faster on a Raptor than a utility ATV.. That's why pro 4x4 races in the a.m. Most the women in XC1 are faster than 75% of men's pro 4x4
I wish the Renegade 1000 XXC had a clutch! It would be the sickest wheeler on the planet! Idk how the 4 wheel drive would work? But I would love it! 4x4 Qwadzilla! Hell ya!
4wd would be easier to work out than the rear trailing arm suspension.. We get that kind of comment a lot about CVT ATVs but the challenge would be running a chain or shaft to the rear differential. That's why manual clutches work on sport quads but not big 4x4s.. Sport quads have a rear sprocket on a solid axle, but independent axles on 4x4s make that implausible.. There's just not enough room for one unless it's Honda's DCT style transmission which isn't very fun on an ATV..
I don’t think dropping the 850 renegade will help Polaris Scrambler. From personal experience, the scrambler 850 not having power steering in my opinion takes it completely off the table
I prefer light weight, powerful high reving and long lasting, easy msintenance motor and chain driven quad all day anyday vs heavy weight not too high rev, pain on the rear end maintenance engine and rubber belt driven quad.
All depends on the temperament of the rider, meaning "what do you mean by being 'challenged?'" This goes beyond riding styles and where the rider wants to ride. There will never be a replacement (as far as I'm concerned) for manual transmission. If I had it my way, manual transmissions would be the only option for everything that moved. Okay, I'm being hyperbolic, but only barely. Thrills can be had on any machine. Hell, I could buy a 1986 Honda 125 and have a blast on it because it comes with its own challenges and having no suspension can be hilarious. It's more than just speed that excites us. Its the experience; the challenge. For those that don't particularly care for any thrills, challenges, or "O-M-G, can-I-actually-do-this" moments, a CVT is fine. They're also fine for those who have big enough balls that require a big-bore to haul them. But the manual is glorious because it delivers the absolute most while requiring the absolute most to receive the delivery. That's satisfying in a way that a "punch-'n-go" will never be able to mimic.
What’s your opinion on the ‘22 outlander 650 M.O. edition? I’ve been checking it out compared to the Japanese lineup, and it has the most features for the price that I’ve seen. With it exactly how I want it, the MSRP is $13,149 without taxes, etc. I’ve never seen anyone with a M.O. edition online except on forums and dirt trax. Everyone seems to want the XMR edition for its mid features, but I just don’t see myself needing those tires or the rad relocate. I’m a technical trail rider at heart so slow, and off-chamber is what I do best!
@@DirtObseXXion thanks! I’ve seen that no-one besides a few on the forums got the fender protectors (those rack tubes that go just under the plastics on the sides). I’m guessing people don’t really need to protect their plastics since they can afford the atv outright. I just hope it’ll be as reliable as my dad’s ‘02 grizzly! Just turned 20 years old this year! 3rd belt, 4th carb rebuild, 3rd front axle, and terra-cross tires since 2008.
If you want, I’d be happy to do a (Literal) first impressions and ride with you once I get it. We could make a video on it! I’m coming from a ‘03 Wolverine. 4x4 (open diff). It’s basically a warrior with 4wd and a rear rack. I already sold it a bit ago, but it was great as a starter quad! Manual steering and 5-speed auto-clutch (semi-automatic). Weighing in just below 350 lbs. 1/3 of the atv the outlander is in basically every regard.
If I could get back my 02 Bombardier ds 650 I would take that. But it really needed a reverse gear. However yes I am considering buying the renegade 650. Looks awesome, can be used for some utility but has to be fun by the looks of it.
I don't think I could because I've never ridden one.. They seem more utility oriented than we what we go for.. I think Dirt Trax reviewed one fairly recently though.

@@DirtObseXXion Yes the Highlifer will be back, from what I have seen at my dealer the Sportsman Highlifer are the number one seller but after Polaris insane price increases the same dealer has had the same Sportsman 1000 Highlifer for weeks now and was told by a sells man that it was about $19,500 to $20,000 out the door. And put a Highlifer Transmission in my Standard Sportsman xp 1000 and I only was buying the transmission oil at the dealer and it was $18 a quart.
I just hope it’s not a sign of another manufacturer slowly backing out of ATV power sports due to any stupid freaking Left greenie environment BS. If I ever go back to big power it’s hands down going to be an outlander 1000R. I don’t like that you have to get the XT-P to get the locking front end . It should come standard on all their 4x4s. Don’t like those money grabs. As far as the 650 Rene being faster than a new brute 750 that’s probably be an interesting race . The 2012+ brutes are considerably faster than 2011-. I had them all. Stock my 2012 would do 75mph and 0-40 in a mad rush . After tune and true dual exhaust it’d break all 4 stock tires loose on asphalt . I’m not saying it’d win but I think that would be a very fun drag race . I know my old 650i 2006 brute would run dead heat with a friends 650 Outty back then , but would get walked after about 45-50 mph and topped out at 68 mph. I’ve found the new KQ to be more fun ripping than I thought it’d be lol. It’s fairly balanced coming off the ground . Keep the content coming .
Thanks Joe!! I remember drag racing an Outlander with my 16 Grizzly.. It was fairly close, they pulled the line, I pulled mid way through... I was like, damn those 570s are legit.. Dudes like, this is a 450.. Anyway those Rotax motors are pretty serious.. Im with you, if I went back to a 1000 it would be an Outlander.. I havent rode a Can-Am Renegade but, I have a Raptor 700 and personally choose it... A real Sport Quad.. I wouldn't mind having a Renegade for the wife tho. She doesn't like the gear shifting..
The ctec 800 in their sled division is a respectable motor and the alpha one rail has been praised but I can't say if not that effort has made it to the quad line up.
That would be sweet.. But I already the 3 of us would be faster on a Raptor.. The Renegade is just too big and heavy to push anywhere near what it's capable of on the trails.. For me, ripping hard is for sportquads and 4x4s are more for casual riding
Raptor would be faster but think of the renegade of a mud ready, trail ready, rock crawling raptor. That 4x4 really comes in handy where I ride at least.
@@DirtObseXXion agreed. I don't want or need the power of an 850+ but if the prices are so close it doesn't matter why say no? Afterall I'm the one who controls how fast it'll rat trap me.
I'll personally take a Raptor over a Renegade any day.. Solid axles and half the weight can simply be ridden harder.. That's why Pro 4x4s race in the morning of GNCC. They'd slow the XC1 guys down.. But if you're hitting mud and riding dirt roads the Renegades certainly have more power and ground clearance
This needs dps, an atv without dps these days is silly, missed a big segment of ppl, I was about to buy one then realized no dps, the nxt model is xxc, way to much money
Recently got one of the 650’s expecting the no power steering to be its biggest problem. Although it would be nice the quad does perfectly fine without it and is surprisingly easy to throw around on the trails
I mean no power steering or improved suspension. I think with this model I personally would rather spend my money going pure sport or full utility atv.
@@DirtObseXXion I had to revisit this video. Been riding the bruteforce around and I still think it’s an all around great atv for a person who does minimally aggressive trail riding and like the engine for work and reliability/durability. However I miss the ability to ride more aggressive. The brute bottoms out on small bumps in the trails that you try to get any lift off of. I think spending 10+ on any single axle manual sport atv is egregious but such is life. I’m really interested in getting a more sport focused atv so what do I pick? A raptor who is 45” and have corner more cautiously or by a sport utility and factor in weight and lose some of the aggressive riding?!?
@@brutelife9177 I'm about to post a video of the Outlander XXC. As aggresive riding goes, it's about aggressive as it gets.. Globs of power and suspension to push it. But....
I bought the outlander xxc 1000r.. rolled it 3rd hour. Im used to solid axle..
I have a 21 Grizzly 700, you are spot on about pricing. They are expensive!
It is true I did go with the 850 even while looking for a 570 ended up with the 850 for the price vs performance hard to go wrong!!
I am a Can Am dealer in VT
The 650 Outlander was my best selling ATV for the past decade.
I will walk a raptor on any terrain with my renegade.
2023 can am's have all increased dry weights this year. it is mind boggling how heavy they are. i understand why they d'ont list wet weights.
The Renegade 650 looks so good. I like it, be a good 2nd quad to the Raptor.
Your garage is filling up quick! 🤣🤣🤣
I was seriously thinking about buying a 2024 Renegade 650 but just realized they left off the power steering. Not sure I want the 1000r, I don't really need the extra displacement so therefore spending the extra cash for something I don't need is a deciding factor.
Yes, this would be an awesome machine if it had powersteering..
@@DirtObseXXionexactly, the 2023 or 2024 Renegade 650 would be an instant yes for me if it has DPS, is it possible to install after market?
Can you do a video about the can am outlander 570 MR

I think there is a time and place for both but would never give up a sport quad for a automatic 4 wheeler
Me neither. Having both for different rides is ideal 🤘
@@DirtObseXXion yeah
Out of my realm of my experience. I just hope I get a phone call from my Can-Am dealer one of these days so I can accept the order and get it in three months or so.
Going to miss the 650 motor, but there was only a $600 price increase from the 650 to a 850 in the outlander line up so that is probably why everyone went with the 850
Yep, obviously CanAm is doing some streamlining now.. Makes me wonder how long the 650 Renegade will be around.
Do you know if you can add power steering from a renegade xxc to the 650?
Not as an option.. It's theoretically possible but you'd have to buy the DPS unit, new steering stem, and figure out how to change the electronics to add the switch and the icon activator for the display.. At that point it would probably just be worth buying the 1000 xxc
Was actually looking at getting an 850 renegade this year
First off…the dude on the Outty 1K is beefy!
Rene 650 vs Raptor: the only true comparison you can do is to see which one slings more mud on the rider. No comparison in the tight stuff
No comparison!
I would definitely consider the 650 but only if came with the xxc package.
And DPS..
If Yamaha had a sport quad with IRS and more ground clearance I would buy one in a heartbeat. I just cant see it being any good on a rutted out trail.
Makes not sense what can am did because I see a lot of the 650 and more 2 up 650 on the Trails and the owners love them.
@@DirtObseXXion true they are faster on 450s,the video was about the Raptor though. I'm faster on my 450s than my 4x4s
Nice looking Can Am . Fun watching the video today my Friends! 🙃 I left a 👍203 have a great day 👋😎
Thanks Chas!!!
I prefer light weight, powerful high reving and long lasting, easy msintenance motor and chain driven quad all day anyday vs heavy weight not too high rev, pain on the rear end maintenance engine and rubber belt driven quad.
Me too
All depends on the temperament of the rider, meaning "what do you mean by being 'challenged?'" This goes beyond riding styles and where the rider wants to ride.
Well said! I love that explanation..
Well we really liked the Outlander 650, so if the Mossy Edition had exactly what you wanted I'd say you found the perfect quad..
I agree, all kind of disappointing.. I think the price points helped drive the decisions but that's just a guess..
Another interesting point over at Polaris, they dropped all highlifter models so the XMR is the only mudcentric machine I believe.
I saw that but I'm guessing they'll do the HL as a late release like they did the Scrambler S last year..
Nice grab!!!
Curious about the Alterra 600, think it has some good ideas but nobody is willing to buy one that I know of
I'm not willing to buy one either.. Textron hasn't done anything positive with Arctic Cat since buying them out..
The ctec 800 in their sled division is a respectable motor and the alpha one rail has been praised but I can't say if not that effort has made it to the quad line up.
My local trails I see a ridiculous amount of new 850 Outlanders
Sweet!
Y’all should do a raptor vs renegade race through the woods, 2 races riders swap machines and give their opinions and observations on both
That would be sweet.. But I already the 3 of us would be faster on a Raptor.. The Renegade is just too big and heavy to push anywhere near what it's capable of on the trails.. For me, ripping hard is for sportquads and 4x4s are more for casual riding
@@DirtObseXXion yeah I’m sure out there in the woods that’s the case, well if y’all ever out in the desert I’d love to ride with ya!
Raptor would be faster but think of the renegade of a mud ready, trail ready, rock crawling raptor. That 4x4 really comes in handy where I ride at least.
Lack of supply, crazy prices and 10% interest is not good for any atv company

They e been raptor killers. My stock 2016 1000R ate a 700 with a 2 bike length head start. Bad lol.

But if you're hitting mud and riding dirt roads the Renegades certainly have more power and ground clearance

I mean no power steering or improved suspension. I think with this model I personally would rather spend my money going pure sport or full utility atv.
No argument here, or just get the Outlander 850.. 🤷♂️
But.... pleasse tell me its the twin 650 and not that new 7-5 single cylinder 650 abomination thats in the outlander 5 and 700
It's the Twin
its so heavy though
Needs power steering!!
Agreed..
Hear me out yea..........
1000 CC VELOCIRAPTOR
And the can am will be blown up and destroyed far far before the raptor will with equal amounts of beatings
I think CanAm ATVs are better than they get credit for, but you're still right..
Sad to hear that the Outlander 650 has beed discontinued. Not good at all. 👎👎
Yeah, sucks!
Is the 650 renegade a 2 cylinder sounds like a one cylinder anyway I love its looks way better without the stupid snorkal they have.
It's a 2 cylinder Rotax engine.. They're great motors, and that snorkel is just on the mud models
@@DirtObseXXion Awesome that's good to hear. Thanks for getting back to me..
