  • Felt and thrift with Me! Join me in the studio in this wet felting exploration where I test thrifted fabrics on the fly with Merino Wool. Will it stick? How do different types if fabrics felt? What challenges will I run into? What mistakes will I make and what new techniques will I discover? Learn what to do and what not to do as I work through felt-making ebbs and flows. Features Iron on Transfer Paper and Dharma Trading Printable Silk Fabric Paper.

    ♥ Hi, my name is Lori and my goal is to teach, inspire and live off the land in style by knitting my own clothes, creating essential survival items and living luxuriously warm, dyeing fibre using bright acid colours and occasionally plants, fungi, muck and mud.
    When I began wet felting 10 years ago, there were only a few basic tutorials. On this channel, I want to share everything I know so so that you can easily begin upgrading your craft by creating remarkable fibre art more quickly. From illustrative conceptual ideas into beautiful creative work that is ready to repeat quickly using minimal tools and resources.

    NOTE for the silk velvet, I recommend using a fabric 'burn out' gel to open up some of the pile to allow wool to migrate up through the base weave. You can create simple patterns (dots, shapes) which will then create a beautiful textural variation between tight wool felt and bubbly velvet... :)

      That sounds very cool. Will have to test it out first a video sometime!

    Thank you for your comments on the previous video! There were some technical errors so I have now re-posted the video 😊
    Omg it’s really setting in. I love the velvet so much. The way it curls into the felt. Velvet pillow covers, velvet bags, velvet cuffs, velvet patch 😍 what about beads and velvet?

    This is so awesome! I am so addicted to to thrifting for silk and always wonder if the "other" materials will felt as well. Guess i just have to try it!

      You just have to try it and keep on experimenting. If you’re unsure 😐 just try it! If you can’t decide, do both! The test sheet is very handy.

    This was inspiring! I have a magenta sweater knit fabric that I want to do this with now. I have a lot of heavier open mesh materials that I think I'll make samples with too, to see how they turn out.

      @muffsmerino  Год назад +1

      So glad to hear that! I suppose cotton knits might work too, if they are not too thick.

    This is fabulous & inspiring! Rather quilt-like and so playful! Could you please say what you used for a base layer, before adding some wool, then adding the experiment fabrics on top, etc?

    • @muffsmerino
      @muffsmerino  Год назад +1

      Thank you! The base layer is two crosshatched layers of uncombed Merino wool roving from Tally Ho Wool Carding in New Zealand :) There is also some info of other materials in the description :)
